Wicked Gods by Michelle Hercules was my first read by this author and exactly what I needed! I don't know about you, but when I'm stressed or going through a difficult time, there are certain subgenres of romance that I reach for. This book happens to incorporate two of them. It's a paranormal, reverse harem, bully romance, and I enjoyed every minute of it!

Daisy is a Norm which means she is on the bottom rung of society with no preternatural abilities. To make matters worse, her parents were murdered right in front of her eyes leaving her to fend for herself at a young age. She also has a little sister to take care of, and being a norm makes that extremely difficult.

Daisy's job as a waitress barely covers the bills, and just when she thinks her and her sister are going to get kicked out of their residence for lack of rent, someone offers her the chance of a lifetime, a scholarship to attend Gifted Academy. She'll have to quit her job and reside on the school premise, but her sister will be able to remain in their home due to the money from the scholarship. Going to this school is her best shot at doing better in life and keeping a roof over her sister's head, so she can't turn down the opportunity.

Why would she want to turn down the opportunity anyway? Well, Norms don't attend Gifted Academy. Idols do. Idols are the members of society descended from gods that possess supernatural abilities. Most of them have little regard for norms and treat them poorly. They see norms as less than them in every way.

Because of that, Daisy expected bullying to some degree, but four boys in particular,  Rufio, Bryce, Morpheus, and Phoenix, set out to make her time there a living hell. They want her gone immediately, but Daisy doesn't scare easily. She knows what graduating from the academy can do for her, and she's not going anywhere.

Wicked Gods held my attention from the first chapter to the last! Michelle Hercules' writing is captivating, and I honestly never got the urge to put the book down at all once I started reading. The world she created is interesting and intriguing, too. I loved learning about the Norms, Fringes, and Idols and the way they interact with each other. The boys and Daisy have great chemistry and banter, and there is a good bit of mystery involved in this story which just made it even better.

The book ended on a cliffhanger that made me want to pick up the next book immediately. It's not out yet though, so I have to wait. Thankfully I won't have to wait long! Book 2 is coming soon!

If you're a fan of paranormal, reverse harem, bully romance with a dash of mystery, this is the one for you!

I have no one but myself to blame for reading these kinds of books. I don't like saying guilty pleasure because I wont feel guilty for things I enjoy but some how these fall into that category for me.

Its not necessarily the books fault on this one. It follows the formula I think people like when it comes to this type of book, the whole Bully romance academy shtick. I am so over them yet I get desperate for something to read so I say fuck it and then the entire time im annoyed for reading it.

99% of the time the girl is always such a cry baby push over and I mean I get it the guys are full on cruel assholes... but that's the thing they are such assholes to me I dont ever see how they are redeemable .. at all like sorry but no. I keep reading these because I hope to find a girl who takes all the have to give looks them in the eye and just laughs and laughs because they are so pathetic and moves on and finds a hot guy group off to the side to date and have fun with because they are nice.

safe to say idk if i will read the next, it was kind of all over in the fact idk what the point even was? Like I think there's a kind of mystery running in the background on who she is or a secret order or something. I think the start had potential but then it was just back and forth between the guys inner monologue how they want to kill her but fuck her first but shes so gross but so hot. to the MC just kind of woe is me trudging through school having random interactions. for one moment I thought she would stick to her guns and be over them but then they gotta fit the "romance" portion of these bully romance books in somehow.

I have a confession to make… reverse harem(RH) books are one of go to sub genres of romance when I just feel like I need a palate cleanser after bombarding my brain with so many contemporary romance books. But not all reverse harem books are worth the money or the time. I think it’s a delicate balance and also a credit to the author for writing a book without the whole storyline going OTT. So when you find a series (Cause thank God, it’s usually a series and not a standalone), you grab on to it hahaha

Having said that, I have noticed that most of the reverse harem books that I enjoy are from the paranormal/fantasy genre. Jane Washington and Jaymin Eve are two of my go to authors when I need a RH fix and I have been on the look out for more.

Thank the book lords for Wicked Gods by Michelle Hercules because this book was addicting. I was completely and utterly captured by the story from the first chapter until the very end which FYI ends on a cliffhanger. Suffice to say, I am so restless for more.

I hate giving off the storyline of a book (what’s the point in reading the book then, right?) so I will just leave some breadcrumbs.
It’s a paranormal romance that has the whole ‘Bully’ vibe (Which I love cause the heroine is always kickass and manages to bring the guy or in this case the guys to their knees 😏)

Daisy is such an awesome character! She is fierce, independent, gutsy and intelligent.
The chemistry between her and the guys is very interesting. One can’t help but be completely hooked to it: it has the whole love/hate – Angsty – war of words foreplay and that my friends makes for an entertaining read!

Grab this grab ASAP! Venture out into the RH world!

I would like book 2 now please.

Wicked Gods will give you a girl who falls in love with a couple of assholes. These said assholes have all wanted to kill said girl at least once in this book. Unfortunately, for them, not one of them actually harms her.

Breaks her heart into a million pieces - ✔
Bullies her - ✔
Lets others bully her - ✔
Falls in love with her - ✔

They really just hurt her pride but in a way each guys heart grows like 5oo times bigger because they start to develop feelings.

Enter Daisy, the girl we were talking about before. She's a Norm who doesn't really like Idols. They are a piece of work and were definitely born with a silver spoon in their mouths. Idols also like to be treated as gods and Daisy wants no part in that.

The thing I love about Daisy is that she's a strong independent woman. She has one mighty strong backbone and is definitely feisty/stubborn when it comes to her opinion/beliefs. That is until four guys start to maneuver into her life/heart. The first moment they met, they wanted to kill her. Now a day later.. they all seem to be intrigued/enamored by her.

Of course this book has a ton of secrets. I had no idea someone's mom was so close to the school or what is really going on with Daisy. Why do people want to use her for something? Maybe she isn't really a Norm but maybe a Fringe? No idea - but I have questions that need answers!

Then there's the guys: Rufio, Bryce, Morpehous, and Phoenix. Two are actual brothers but they all think of each other has family. They are pretty high level idols as well - so that makes them bad asses. These guys all have one plan: get Daisy to leave. What they don't plan on his actually liking her and wanting to protect her to all the damage and chaos that they have created.

Other than that, the sexual tension is off the charts and I can't wait for the romance to be in the air. The damn ending of a cliffhanger got me and now I'm hoping book 2 will give me more answers than questions.

The story itself is really nothing new, but the world-building was actually pretty interesting. I like all of the characters so far. This book definitely falls into my "guilty pleasure" genre lol

I liked it!! On to book 2.

Sigh

Why do heroines have to be so silly?

Why does the original premises for an RH story always get buried in all the secondary stuff like the sex, or boys or academy drama?

Why does every heroine think taunting her bullies with sexual stuff, in this case: a strip dance, is a form of defiance and strength? It’s stupid and eye twitching and cringy abit.

And why is there always an insta? No build up to anything. They are all just suddenly attracted to each other, and start throwing out phrases like “when has a woman ever got me this turned on?” or “or fuck he’s gorgeous and I’m just staring stupidly at him”

Ever notice how the heroine is objectified before she’s seen as a real person?
Ever notice how the heroine don’t care and still sleeps with these assholes?

Daisy’s like that. She’s reckless, stubborn and from what I’ve read, can’t see good sense if it slapped her in the face. A child trying to be tough and mature but making silly decisions even when warned.

This is an extreme Teen YA to me. The MCs were immature. And all the sexiness, rolling and drinking and lap dancing, did not compute in my brain atall.
There’s still even using words like ”potato, potaho”! for pete’s sake.

Her harem are boys. Not men. Boys. Powerful and very arrogant. They talk like boys, they act like boys. I was rolling my eyes trying to picture them drinking and fucking and again. It. Did. Not. Compute.
I just finished Control of Five and those men were INSANE, these boys; they apparently get kicks when a woman verbally stands up to them. That’s it. I dunno, so if I stand up to my boss, will he dream of how sexy I am too??...I’m kidding-ish

But still, it’s not the dystopia I imagined. It’s not cruel or even intense. They tell us it is, and maybe in some ways they try to show us, but I felt nothing of that. It’s kind of like walking into a very high class shop, you know the pretentious people look at you lowly and you can get in trouble (not serious trouble) but there’s no rich person whipping out a knife or cremating the “poor” in the shoe aisle.
It wasn’t that intense.

I wish Daisy had just focused on the original agenda: finding Starlight (yes, it’s actually a thing in the book). I wished she’s didn’t get stupidly entangled with the Idols so randomly. I wish there was an actual believable build up to these things and I wish the heroine wasn’t so complacent to the “bullying”
Assholes are assholes and weaponizing sex, in this case ain’t strength.

Did 50%

“Bryce,” I whisper.
“Yes, Daisy?” He fuses his lips with mine again.
I don’t reply for a moment, too wrapped up in the feel of his tongue against mine, in the touch of his hands on my body. He pulls back slightly and waits for me to continue, watching me with eyes that are brighter than before, the color akin to molten gold.
“I don’t know what I was going to say.”

So good! Brilliant characters, with just enough of glimpse of who they are, and making me crave for more because of it. Full of wickedness, suspense, and sass.
I'm a huge fan of a strong willed female that takes charge of any situation, and this book is all about that.
Can't wait to read more.

I liked the premise of a segregated society with mortals and superpowered Idols and an in-between class as well, but some of the characters came off as a bit one-note.

An interesting twist on where idols control the world and attack an editor that writes about resistance and he and his family are attacked. The story focuses on the eldest daughter after the attack. Loved it!!!

I ended up enjoying this book so much more than I expected. When it started I was truly worried things were going to go far downhill on the bullying and it did not paint any of the men in a good light. To start they hate the heroine all because she is a Norm. A normal human sans powers and thus lower on the totem pole than a bug to them. The guys are Idols, descendants of demi-gods gifted with powers. They are beyond hateful and things only get worse when she receives a scholarship to their prestigious school. They plot plans to break her. To hurt her irrevocably just because they can. I swear I was highlighting and mumbling under my breath so much in the beginning as they planned to sleep with her and drop her like scum. They made a bet over her and any bad intention they could have had towards her they did.
Here are some examples:
That being said, I am so glad I did not put down the book. I was worried because yeah even though Daisy had a backbone she was still beyond vulnerable and powerless against them. The bullying is not out of control but the guys don't help matters. They set the mean girls of the school against her and stand-back while they too try to destroy her. But Daisy is not weak. She may crumble but this girl gets back up and does not give in. As time goes on all four of the guys start changing their perspectives. They realize hurting Daisy, hurts them and they don't like that, they also don't like the strange feelings she inspires. There is a lot of push and pull obviously but Daisy gives as good as she gets and I loved that about her. After witnessing her parents deaths at the hands of Idols she's been on the run with her younger sister since. Even though she should stay under the radar she just can't help herself and her smart mouth. I think it really threw the guys for a loop because not only was she not cowering away from them, she was a powerless Norm standing against them.
The book does have some triggering moments such as I cannot wait to see where the series goes. I know Daisy is playing a much more important role in the world than any of them know and I secretly hope she gains some crazy badass powers or something. Show them how Norms do it ;)

Academy Urban? Fantasy Paranormal world with Supernaturals who are Descendants of the Gods living among humans in modern-day times.

FMC is a norm/human girl whose parents were killed by idols/descendants of the gods. She works as a waitress to support her little sister and herself. Through a series of events and people who seem to be somehow connected to her dead father, she ends up attending an Academy mainly made for the powerful Idols and other powerful descendants. She's the only human to attend.

She has unwittingly grabbed the attention of Four of the most powerful Idols who can't decide if they want to kill her or play with her. Though the more they play the more they want to keep.

My biggest issue with this story took place during 3 short scenes. One of the Idols has the power to pull people's minds into a dream-like state where he can make them see and feel anything he wants to. His father is an abusive piece of scum and forces his son to give him visions of a sexual incest nature. This Idol is being abused in the worst ways by his own father using his power against him. So it came as a massive shock to me when bullying the FMC he decides to do the same thing to her twice, but does it in public places like in a classroom and forces her to orgasm in front of the entire student body. I don't understand how this character is capable of forcing similar abuse he endures onto someone else. It's abhorrent and unforgivable.

Besides that, the story is intriguing and entertaining. I'll probably continue, a lot is going on. Secret organizations that want different things, characters who are playing both sides and we don't know if we can trust them, a mythical Garden of Eden-type island, Gods with agendas that play mind games with the Idols in an attempt to force them to fulfill their will, reminiscent of Greek Mythology but as far as I can tell very different Gods.

Now that I think about it I don't think anyone has mentioned the names of the Gods yet 🤔
Stuff for future books I guess?

The audiobook was okay, the female narrator reads in a monotone flat emotionless way that I kind of hated. The male narrator was okay except his impersonation of female voices all sound like when a guy uses an annoying high-pitched voice to mock a woman.

Such a great start to this series! (Some slight spoilers)

Wow. I had high expectations for this book, but the author blew them out of the water! This was a great start to this reverse harem bully romance series involving God like powers. The writing is great, with minimal grammatical errors. Daisy is norm, a non magical being. Her parents are assassinated when idols, beings with god like powers, find out her father is searching for ways to kill idols and give the oppressed Norms a chance at a good life. This leads to a life on the run for daisy and her sister, doing everything she can just to keep food on the table. In this world, idols look at norms as roaches, just something worthy of being crushed. Daisy is offered a scholarship to a prestigious idol academy and she accepts, even knowing she won’t be completely safe there with all of the idols present. There, she is bullied, especially at the hands of the Magnificent four, idols who have the strongest of abilities and are as close to Gods as an idol can get. Throughout the book we watch our main characters struggle with the mindset they were raised in. Daisy think all idols are monsters, and the guys think daisy, a norm, is worthless. We watch them slowly change their perspective while trying to figure out why they have a pull to eachother. As this book ends, we’re left wondering... who is Daisy really, and why does a God want her dead? Even she doesn’t know the answer to that. So ready to read the next book and see where this interesting story goes.

ALL MY REVIEWS CAN BE FOUND ON MY BLOG: ABSTRACT BOOKS

line

Star Rating : 4.5 / 5 stars

POV : Multiple

Cliffhanger : Yes

Hero : Rufio , Morpheus , Phoenix , Bryce

Heroine : Daisy

Pace of the story : Moderate

Angst Rating : 6/10

Heat Rating : 5/10

Triggers Involved : Bullying , Past Trauma

Plot Summary :
Daisy is a norm which is another term for humans without any special capabilities in their world. Norms are not considered anything and the main rulers are Idols. They are powerful beings and everyone is scared of them. That is until Daisy ends up pissing off one of them and barely escapes without being killed.

Her job as a waitress is barely covering up any expenses but luckily she has gotten a chance to go to the gifted academy of Norms and Fringes. She is going to be the weakest person there but it would be a cold day in hell before she would let those snobs bully her. What she didn't expect was to run into the 4 psychos she ended up pissing in her restaurant. They are out for her blood and it obviously doesn't help that they are the most powerful idols in the world. Phoenix, Bryce, Morpheus and Rufio want her out of their academy and there is no limit they won't cross to achieve that goal!

Overall Opinion :
Woahhh, another amazing High School bully Romance!! Norms and idols are now my new obsession and there is no way I am ever forgetting these. Daisy and her boys have one hell of a tale and the whole series is pretty awesome.

It had bullying with suspense and that was the best part for me. Daisy and Her idols are perfect! Each boy has his own capabilities and has his own darkness. The one I liked the least in this book was Phoenix but from what I saw of his past, I'd say he has the most horrific experience of them all. These idols have my heart and I loved the way they protected daisy. They set out to destroy her and by the time they had achieved that, they had destroyed themselves too!

A must read for all the Bully Fantasy Romance lovers out there!

First time reading a book by this author and i enjoyed it, this book is a paranormal reverse harem book. Its about a girl named Daisy who is a Norm, her parents were killed by the idols ( idols are people with abilities). Being a Norm is difficult since they have less advantages than Idols. She works in a diner to cover her bills and just when she thought she was going to be thrown out of her apartment along with her sister, someone offers her a life time opportunity, a chance to a gifted academy. She took the opportunity but since she knows that idols looks down to Norms and treats them poorly, Daisy knew she was gonna get bullied but she never thought that the four most powerful Idols and the popular guys of school would want to kill her. Wicked Gods has a very intresting plot, it held my attention from the first chapter. The whole Norm and Idols thing was fun to read and i loved the guys. It was funny and suspenseful simultaneously. Daisy is really strong and i admire her strength to stand up in front of idols who have supernatural powers. What i liked the most about this book ( as much as it hurts me to say) was that all the students in the gifted academy never crossed their line because their teachers were strict. The school punished the ones who hurt others or used their abilities to harm. ⁣I really liked Bryce, he is not like the other three. He doesnt look down to Norms and always protected Daisy. Ugh he is such a sweetheart. There was chemistry between Daisy and each one of them. Phoenix is a jerk, i hated him at some points but then i also felt bad what he went through with his dad. I can take a wild guess what his dad does to him but maybe it ll be more clear in the second book. Rufio on the other hand is a spoiled brat and i liked him. 😂 morpheus is still an enigma, he is kinds creepy but i hope his character looses up a bit in the next book.⁣I liked this story but towards the end it got really boring. Rufio and Phoenix claims they hate Daisy but suddenly they say they like her. I didnt see how they developed feelings for her, their relationship with Daisy was a bit rushed.

So Daisy is a norm whose father was active in the campaign against idols. Since her parents died she just tries to keep herself and her sister alive. She gets a scholarship to go to the academy the is home to the Idols she recently had a run in with so no good can come from this.

"To survive, I must become invisible. But my hope to get through the academy unscathed goes down the drain when the most powerful boys in school set their eyes on me." The only thing that bothered me about this part of the blurb is that she didn't seem to try and keep her head down, it's like every chance she got she antagonized people in some way. Which would be fine except she kept complaining about the consequences.

And lastly our heroine went into a tizzy every time she saw any of these guys because they were just so hot. But I just couldn't get into it, these guys weren't just jerks or bullies they were like complete trash so...that is not hot to me. But, this is my own fault I always fall for the blurbs of "bully romances" but it is rare that I actually enjoy them.

Omg this book was absolutely brilliant. The storyline is intense and sucks you in from the start for an incredible journey, full of twists and turns you won't see coming. The main character Daisy is a strong willed norm girl who gets invited to attend the academy with idols and fringes who have different levels of powers. They do not like that Daisy a norm had been let into the academy with them and take it upon themselves to bully her so that she will leave. All this results in an intense ending that will leave you needing to know more.
I would highly recommend this book

I read this book due to a random recommendation on facebook and holy heck this book blew me outta the water. Academy books have been the rage lately and unless it's well written, I normally don't bother but with this it was awesome!!! Daisy is a kick ass human dealing with idols and fringes, who are so much stronger than her yet she never gives in. 100% RECOMMEND THIS BOOK

Great start to the series, there was progress without giving away too much. Lots of foreshadowing of things to come. The bullying was a bit OTT, but with OTT characters, it is to be expected.

This sucked for like the first 65% of the book.

Also, I have read a book that is essentially the exact same book only the nonsupernatural version. Literally the same stupid “idol” “fringe” “norm” names only describing levels of how rich the groups of people were.

Multiple POVs, 1st person. It took awhile to get used to the writing style. Also, I am not a fan of multiple POVs, but in the end I feel the author did a good job with the transitions. At first, it was an issue because it was confusing remembering each hero and their power and background.

Daisy witnessed her parents being murdered by Idols. She is known as a Norm in society. Idols have superpowers. Norms are "nothing". They have no powers and are looked down upon. Daisy has had to take care of her little sister since she was ten years old. Now she is 17 years old and working as a waitress. Four Idols walk in to her restaurant one day and sit in her section. They bully her and the interaction just angers them. However, circumstances later have her transferred to a gifted academy where the four Idols also go to school. Bryce, Rufio, Morpheous, and Phoenix rule the school. They are also known as very powerful Idols. They bully Daisy and want to "play" with her.

The reader learns that there are many secrets among the Idols and there is a lot to learn about Daisy and what her father was uncovering about Idols. Also, there is a series of mysterious deaths that are happening on campus.0

I almost gave up on this one but at 65%, I could not stop reading. Off to read book 2.

*BETA REVIEW*

Living in a world where people are classified into 3 groups - Idols, Fringers, Norms - can't be easy when you are just a Norm girl.
Some secrets from the past are knocking into Daisy's doors after an encounter with four Idols. Not what a Norm girl would wish for herself.
I love Daisy, even when she's too stubborn, but she has that something that makes you like her from the start. A Norm girl is thrown into academy full of wolves. Sounds like a bad horror book, but NOT HERE. I got what I wanted - a fierce woman that fights for herself.
Rufio, Bryce, Morpheus, and Phoenix are the four most powerful Idols in the Academy. And they had.put their eyes on Daisy. Why? Who is she?
What will happen when motives and people around her are not what they seem to be like? Who is who, and what will happen next?
Find out reading this CAPTIVATING STORY, that will hold you hostage from the very beginning till the very end and will leave you begging for next book right after the end.

Such a great book!!! I am so glad I stumbled upon this book. It's a paranormal bully book that I didn't know I needed. I have been thoroughly entertained by the characters and the world that the author has brought forth. The characters no matter God or Norm have issues, big and small, and they are handled perfectly.
The author makes this story a page turner by all the secrets lies, twists and turns. The world created by the author is so rich, it's like you are part of the story. The great thing about this book is that it is so different from the usual bully romance. I am currently reading the second book that just came out and I can't wait to see what happens there. This book is told in multiple pov.

I absolutely binged this book! It was faced paced, full of drama and secrets that I NEED to know! The plot was amazing and the writing super addictive.

This world divided into sections by power and lineage is brutal and cruel, especially seeing what we do happen to Daisy at the academy by those more powerful than her, playing their own games.

The only really negative for me was I found having so many points of view, and switching them so frequently, a little bit confusing during some sections.

I’m so intrigued by this series and excited for the next book!
