Those Other Books #4

Beautiful Beast

Rate this book
Beautiful Beast is a light tale of lust and love, about a beautiful dancer who keeps a wild beast locked inside him, and the man who sets it free.

Kevin used to hold himself back, trying to keep his less conventional desires to himself. With Joakim, he feels free. It’s almost as if Joakim can read Kevin’s subconscious, touching the right places at exactly the right time, and whispering the most shameless things…filthy, and oh so satisfying.

Falling for Kevin is easy. Joakim can feel it happening and he’s powerless to do anything about it. With every touch, his desire grows. Men have chased him for his money and status before, but Kevin doesn’t seem to care about any of that. Maybe this time, Joakim should let himself fall, and hope the landing will be soft.

Kevin and Joakim meet in a shoe store of all places. Joakim helps Kevin find his shoe, which was spirited away by a cute toddler, and is mesmerized by Kevin's beauty and grace. Kevin barely notices Joakim, and the two go their separate ways.

Whether by fate or chance, the men find each other again on an app, and Kevin begins to fall for the thoughtful, honest man who makes him feel alive. As for Joakim, he's more than halfway there the moment he sets eyes on Kevin.

Since this is one of Those Other Books, it is deliciously wanton, sexual, and kinky. Joakim is growly and possessive, and Kevin is no shy virgin either. The men talk, fuck, and cuddle, not necessarily in that order.

Kevin has no idea Joakim is a very wealthy, rather famous financier. Joakim withholds the information because he likes that Kevin isn't dating him just for his money.

There is no big misunderstanding in this book, no drama, no miscommunication, just a sensual relationship between two men who need each other.

Roe Horvat's writing is gorgeous; there's no other word for it. The phrases he uses, the way the characters and setting are described ... sex is at once a communion and a blessing.

If you're in the mood for not only dirty talk and kinky play with light D/s overtones but also a sweet age-gap romance, read Beautiful Beast.

Look away, friends, look away!!

I'm hiding my head in shame because I didn't love Beautiful Beast, and it shames me down to my (probably) broken soul.

I'm a huge, HUGE Roe Horvat fan, and I love the ultra-erotic "Those Other Books" series, but this one... and I don't even know if I can say it, felt like too much sex and not enough substance. *hides head in shame*

I really loved the combination of internal angst and the ultimate sensual experiences of the other books in the series, but this one felt a little too fluffy for me. The biggest issue these two had was their wealth disparity, and it was a nothingburger. The other stories had deep longing or loss or angst underlying the plot, and I always felt like it gave the sex scenes more gravitas. Here, I missed it.

Also, I was a bit irritated at the pet name "angel" from the start. It isn't one of my favorites, and it felt too mushy for me.

Of course, the word choices and sensual writing was as tight and unabashed as I could have hoped for, and Roe always kills it with tight editing and a succinct story. I think I just craved the energy of the first few in the series. I know, it shames me too...

Oh!
That was...beautiful.

In tune with Roe's exceptional style.
In harmony with 'Those Other Books.'
In unison, they swept me off my feet.

Exquisite erotica.
Which didn't surprise me in the slightest since Horvat created this. What did surprise me a bit was Joakim. An unforeseen wonder who quickly stole my heart. He's confident yet vulnerable. He's stable yet unsettled. He's missing something and as we soon discover that certain something is actually a someone. Kevin is one of Marcus' dancers and we've met him in passing in "Those Other Books." He used to share a flat with Luke until Luke was whisked away by his boyfriends. He's feeling adrift and restless with all the changes happening. All of his friends are settling down and are...happy. When will it be his turn? Eek! To everyone's good fortune, his time has come.

I loved the style and pace of this story. Adorable meet-cute leads to a holy-hotness-not-to-be-forgotten first kiss with cute and sexy texting in between. I found the getting to know one another stage delightful and couldn't wait for their fresh and tentative relationship to blossom. I also admired their bedroom talk beforehand and found the forwardness with words attractive. The explicit desires quickly went from whispered cravings to a fulfilled frenzy of passion. Kevin craves a particular dynamic and power roles that Joakim is more than happy to oblige. They are perfectly suited for one another sexually, but what about the rest? Who is Joakim when he's not the cocksure dom in the bedroom? What else does Kevin do besides surrender his body to his lover and dance like an angel? I very much enjoyed this racy reveal and I believe you will too!

Beware of: This is clearly categorized as erotica and you should expect...sex. Weddings always make me cry but be prepared to chuckle in between your sniffles. And age and money prove to be insignificant in the face of true love.

This book is for: I'm not only devoted to Roe's words but also this series for good reason. If you've savored these "other" couples as I have, you won't want to miss their return and the newest duo joining the group.

*4.5 gleaming-and-gorgeous stars*

4 Sing Like a Fucking Choir Stars ⭐

What a beautiful, passionate and toe curling experience this was. Beautiful Beast shone with two incredible men so transparent in their vulnerabilities and desires it was mesmerising to read.

Having unknowingly crossed paths merely days prior, it is a coincidence when Joakim and Kevin meet on Grindr. Neither are feeling too optimistic. They're both jaded about the actuality of relationships progressing beyond hook ups; the downside of being single. So of course it's exciting when they click the moment they begin chatting.

Yet from the first instance Joakim laid eyes on Kevin, he was besotted. Except he never imagined a much younger, extremely attractive dancer would be interested in someone like himself.

“Wow, I can’t even look at you,” he blurted.

Kevin’s eyes widened. He blinked, obviously at a loss as to what to say.

“No! Shit, sorry. Not like that. I… your face is very distracting.”

Still confused, Kevin parted his amazing mouth to speak, but Joakim intercepted him.

“You are beautiful, Kevin. Gorgeous. And it’s messing with my head a little. I’ll be fine in a minute. I better stop babbling before you run away.”

“I… erm. Thank you?”

What I loved was that Beautiful Beast perfectly highligted how insignificant good lucks are in light of a person's qualities. The fact that these two men were insatiable in each other's company, made Joakim adamant about trying to woo and keep Kevin.

"Joakim could have wept from joy. He was wanted. A lot, apparently. The most captivating man he’d ever met wanted him back. It was a heady feeling, incredibly arousing."

This book was simply lovely and deliciously carnal. Both men were eager to provide and receive love, and it was heartwarming without all the petty drama. Just two people getting to know each other with a hint of insecurity. Joakim was the perfect smoulder to Kevin's gentleness. These two were made for each other.

There is something incredibly powerful about recognising the way sex can be freeing when you let yourself just give in to desire.

When that desire is coupled with another person who treasures your pleasure as part of their own, you get a book like this.

It will be labelled as erotica, and it undoubtedly is some of the hottest Roe has written. But, as with all his books, it is much more than just sex.

The dirty talk is pitched perfectly to appeal to Kevin, who wants to feel like he's driving his man wild with lust, he needs to feel desired, to be used and it's incandescent.

Joakim is older, he's aware of the passage of time and how he may have riches and a powerful professional life, but he's still alone and fearful of people wanting him for his celebrity.

When he meets Kevin, he's quickly lost in the slightly younger (a nine year age gap only) man's vitality and is mesmerised by his dancing talent

As well as the most excellent smexy times, this is also a beautiful slow burn romance which, while it happens in a relatively short time scale, totally makes sense.

The trust each man gives to the other is a solid foundation on which they learn more about what makes the other tick both sexually and emotionally.

I loved every little filthy and steamy bit of it.

HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT AF!!

Erotica Hotness: 5 STARS!
Story: 3.5 Stars (because, yes, there was a plot of sorts & the writing was phenomenal & because there was almost too much sex, but come on, this is EROTICA!)

I DEVOURED this book! Two men get together & they are wildly attracted to each other. Both want a relationship. Neither holds back sexually (remember the HOT AF thing?). There is a touch of kink: some edging, some blindfolds, some ties, some toys, and a hell of a lot of DIRTY TALK!

It was Joakim's dirty talk that really did it for me. GAAAAHHHH!!!! Can he talk in my ear???!!!

And his dirty angel, Kevin? He let himself fly.

Don't expect any condoms here. Know that every orgasm is perfect. They are perfect together & that's OK because this isn't real life! I'll take it. Imagining these guys together will make you try to have a perfect orgasm of your own! Come on, you know you take those breaks every now and then while reading this stuff!

Angst, conflict? Yeah...not really. Do I care? NO....because: HOT AF!

My rec? Make sure you have some privacy while you read this! *wink*

Sweet and deliciously dirty, Roe Horvat’s stunning new novel Beautiful Beast, is the ultimate opposites attract romance. Fourth in his Those Other Books series, Mr. Horvat explores a wide range of personalities, relationships, and story lines. While each title could be read as standalones, the characters do pop back and forth. I get a kick out of seeing the friends interact, and in the case of Beautiful Beast, fans of this series are going to enjoy watching as these two friend groups finally converge!

Something absolutely magical happens when Roe Horvat writes a romance. Whether it’s tender and emotional, or just down and dirty good-ole erotica, Mr. Horvat gets deep into the hearts of his characters and shows us what can happen when two people truly connect.

While he’s been focused on his career, Joakim has watched all his friends find love. Coming up on forty, this shy, bear of a man, is lonely and tired of pick-ups and one-night stands. After crossing paths with a captivating young man while shopping, Joakim decides to give Grindr another chance. He can’t believe his luck when he comes across the profile of the cutie from the shoe store!

Kevin is unsettled and lonely. Between moving to a new town, and having all his friends abandon him for loves of their own, Kevin’s apartment, and his life, are empty. After weeding through the random nonsense on Grindr, Joakim’s direct message catches his attention.

I love seeing how these two navigate social media to find each other. Reaching out tentatively, with nothing to lose, both men are hoping the other will reply. Without the constraints of a face-to-face meeting, they’re able to lay out their honest expectations and see if they match. This is one heck of an adorable courtship.

Messaging back and forth, Joakim woos Kevin with some exquisite dirty talk and the men agree to meet in person. After fumbling through first date awkwardness, these two find their connection and the sparks begin to fly!

Roe Horvat excels at writing physical love scenes and Beautiful Beast is filled with gloriously intimate and erotic sex. I’ve adored every one of Mr. Horvat’s romance novels and, so far, there’s no end to his imagination. No two relationships are similar and none of the pairings have the same style of sex. With unique characters, intense and deep emotional connections, and a lovely story line which flows throughout the series, Horvat’s The Other Books is utter perfection!

10 STARS ! A fantastic tale of two men who fit each other in every way. A Swedish setting for businessman Joakim, 32, an ordinary looking man, who meets a talented lithe dancer, the pretty Kevin, 27, in Gothenburg.

It began with a pair of red Doc Martin boots.

What we get is two men who begin with a sexual arrangement, that turns into a deeply emotional, passionate forever relationship.
This is super sexy and breathtakingly exciting.
Joakim...

We have dirty-talking, hedonistic quirks, and it's erotic with BDSM, it's mutually satisfying, full of fantasies, and plenty of tremendously fulfilling sex scenes.
Kevin...

We get snippets of how the men manage their time and work. We can feel their emotions, the neediness, and their satisfaction, including their inner most desires.

And then there is a shocking revelation.
A magnificent story from beginning to end.
Highly recommended. ENJOY !

A dream come true. Yeah, this author writes the best sexy stories and never superficial!
This fuckfest, graceful, delicious, dirty, lustful, dedicated, worshipful, it was a delight for the eye.
And on top of it, there is this safe, comfortable place of deep love.

The billionaire and the dancer. Kevin doesn’t know who Joakim is other than the man who worships his body and give him everything he needs.

The most intense, mesmerizing, sexiest, delicious encounters are put in this story. It was everything.
Two kind men, a match made in heaven, they were kind, gentle, dirty and full of love.

Not many authors can write sex intensely sensual, deeply intimate and emotionally involved like Roe Horvat. And this series more than showcases his beautiful ways with words and feelings.

However, this instalment in the series, whilst bearing all of the above trademarks, is somehow not quite in the same league as the previous books.
Two men meet, fall in lust and then in love – it’s a story told through hot and kinky sex: the passion, the increasing trust, the getting to know each other, and Roe does it wonderfully.

But I must admit that I found Joakim’s smitten ways just a bit ‘too much’ – he calls Kevin ‘angel’, 'perfection' etc. etc. He coos and swoons so hard, he was giving me vertigo.
I also thought that it’s a bit unlikely that Kevin wouldn’t have known of Joakim if he’s really that famous.
I guess that mostly, I missed a little bit of angst – there is a good opening for it, too, but things are sorted very quickly.

Still – if you’ve read the previous books, you’ll certainly enjoy this one!

4.5 Loved-It-Stars!! 😍🤩 Roe has done it again 💕👍.. written a beautiful erotica with wonderfully etched out MCs who are more than what they do and what they like.
Kevin and Joakim from their outer personalities could not be more different but where like-mindedness is concerned they fit perfectly. They meet accidentally and then after a few flirty getting-to-know-you texts it seems that they may have met their match. Their online chemistry proves to be just the beginning of an incendiary chemistry💞.... Kevin's desires and fantasies get fulfilled when he finds that Joakim is exactly the kind of person that he has been yearning for. And as for Joakim, it was love at first sight for him 💘😍.
Needless to say that the book is HOT HOT HOT 🔥🔥🔥 and a little kinky too, but not heavy on BDSM. It is low angst and has a really understated background plot. It was great to catch up on the other couples/throuples from the series and how they are progressing in their relationships.. with Joel and Tyler finally tying the knot 💝. Highly recommended 👍👍. Looking forward to many more such HEAs in this series.

Second try 05/2024.
3,25 stars.
Last time I started this, I lost interest around 50%, so this time I wanted to not dnf again. I started other books to take breaks from it, but in the end I finished it, yay.

Overall good, but I didn't feel the love and connection between the MCs as much as in his other similar erotica themed books. .

Note for future me: I enjoy Roe Horvat's books with lots of sex (like this series) more if I don't read one immediately after the other.

First try 10/2022.
Setting aside at 54%.
Maybe I'll come back to it later.
The last Roe Horvat - books feel too interchangeable to me.

After Adam and Christoffer's book, this one might be my favorite in the series!

First of all - LOOK at the cover! It's so beautiful!

Secondly, while this book is FIRE and the chemistry between Kevin and Joakim is just kindle-melting steamy HOT, there are also such sweet and schmoopy moments mixed in between the hotness, and I love that Roe can write both so well.

Kevin was Luke's roommate before Luke found his two men. He's a dancer, in his late 20's. He happens to run into Joakim - billionaire, tech start-up guru, late 30's, first in a shoe store and then online. Joakim is totally, completely smitten at first sight - however, he doesn't really want Kevin to know about his professional life. He hopes that Kevin might fall for him the person, not the business man. I love that trope, the whole hidden billionaire meets normal guy trope, I love it! And seriously, these two were just scorchingly hot together. They were just so well-tuned to each other in the bed room, and I loved all their moments together.

I'm completely enjoying the little group of friends that Roe has created with this series. I really hope a future book has Adam and Christoffer tying the knot? They're totally next!

And also? I think I've said this before, but I also love the setting of these books and the distinctly European feel to them. It's refreshing because you can tell it's so accurate? Roe's writing is wonderful, please give his books a try!

If you're looking for sensual, erotic, very very sexy then I highly recommend this series!

This book was so good and sweet. It was a bit of insta love but it still somehow felt slow and gentle. Both MCs found what they were looking for in each other and I really enjoyed their dynamic in and out of sex

Really enjoyed this read, there was minimal miscommunication and it felt like a different vibe from Roe Horvat’s recent work. There was a lot of hot scenes but the love really shined.

Fluffy, Sweet, and Sexy

Beautiful Beast, like the others in Those Other Books, is a feel-good erotic novella featuring a dancer and a business exec who adores him. It’s graphic and kinky, but nothing too extreme. Just two guys exploring their fantasies and falling in love. The book has appearances from characters in the previous books but could be read as a stand-alone.

Joakim and Kevin’s meet-cute is absolutely adorable and charming; I liked these guys straight away. It’s not quiet instalove, but they click immediately and have such a beautiful chemistry. Roe writes sex like he does everything else, with vivid description and passion. I could envision the streets of Gothenburg as clearly as I could Kevin arching his pretty little bubble butt 😁 And if you love dirty talk, whew, the mouth on Joakim.

Beautiful Beast is angst and drama free, and it’s a great afternoon read to lift your spirits and give you butterflies.

Most assuredly I am not a fan of where Horvat is taking his writing. The books of these series are highly erotic, but that's about it. Even the stories have begun to read and feel the exact same.

On the one hand: fragile, gentle, hopeless dancer in love that isn't aware of his mesmerizing beauty. On the other: extremely rich, intimidating and self-assured business man that solves everyone's problems and is an actual marshmallow of man on the inside.

Yes, even the polyamory story can be summed up with the above.

There's little to no plot or relationship development in these books. I can honestly say I only enjoyed the first one. I miss the emotional punch Horvat's early works had.

I just find myself incapable of buying love after one date-slash-Grindr hook up. Sorry.

Don't even get me started on the pet names. I rolled my eyes so hard paragraph after paragraph that I consider it an actual workout now.

Let me just start by saying that I almost never write reviews in english, since I'm french, but hey, let's be crazy and try to write something. I just hope it won't be too gibberish and rambling.

Well, folks, I truly LOVED this book. Roe Horvat is a writer who takes my breath away, I fell in love with his books and the way he writes. He has this distinctive voice, something really special, the kind of thing that turns me into an addict to everything he writes. I don't know to say/express it, but there's something really organic (does that mean something in english ?) in his writing, like something that I feel in my guts, like a voice I hear in my head ; something powerful which amplifies the feelings and emotions.

This book is my favorite in the series. Once again, Roe manages the perfect balance between the hottest, filhiest eroticism and the sweetest romance. The story is hot and electric as f*ck, it's really, really hot and wow, I loved that. Ok, let me be honest here, I love erotic stories between men, and I do really think that Roe is one of the few authors out there who writes this kind of books with utter perfection. Why ? Well, it's because of the perfect balance between dirty, filthy, crazy hot sex (plus dirty talk ... yes please !!) and the emotional chemistry and connection, the deep feelings between his characters. For me, you need way more than hot sex and dirty words to write a good erotic story. You need those feelings, this emotional connection between the characters, yes, but also between YOU, the reader, AND the characters, if you see what I mean. And this, my friends, is something I can feel in Roe's books, and I think that's of the reason I love them so much.

I know I say this every time, but what I also love about Roe's books is the fact that the books are sets in Europe. Here, we're in Göteborg (or should I say Gothenburg ?), Sweden, and all those descriptions of the landscapes, the streetnames, the snippets of the swedish way of life, well .. I love it. Even if I'm french, it makes me feel at home and at the same time, it makes me travel there. It's refreshing and conforting, a true gift for the readers, even more now that we're locked up in our homes.

I fell in love with Joakim and Kevin, as a couple, and as individual characters. I loved their sincerity, I loved to see their relationship grow, and I don't even want to start about their back and forth texts 'cause I could spent hours talking about it ... I loved everything in this book, and trust me, I'm a picky reader, I'm hard to fully please ... But this was perfection. I finished this book two days ago, and I miss them, I can't stop thinking about them all day long, I even re-read some parts of the book, and I want a full re-read asap. Well, that was a true gem, and I can't thank Roe enough for this filthy and nonetheless sweet story.

Up until now I've loved every single book I've read from Roe Horvat. My reaction to "Beautiful Beast", though, was more complicated.

The characters were likeable but not as interesting as the couples from books #1 and #2.

The plot was solid, if a little too sweet for me and for what I expected.

The pace of the relationship was a lot faster than what I normally prefer to read about but at least they were spending time together and talking a lot so there was a connection.

All in all, every aspect of the book had some pros and some cons and that means that I can't be absolute about the story. However, one thing I'm certain about is that this author knows how to write and I'll keep reading what he creates.

I'm not sure if there'll be more books in this series, but if there are, i hope they'll be less sweet than this one.

This story starts with one of the most delightful and maybe even best opening scenes I’ve ever read. Joakim falls straight into love at first sight in a shoe shop while…. No actually. I love that scene too much to spoil it for you. Go read it.

In fact, go read the whole book. In my opinion this is the perfect story for the troubled times we live in. If I had been able to order my perfect romance it would have read pretty much exactly like Beautiful Beast.

What’s not to love about a story about instant lust, maybe even ‘insta-love’ as far as Joakim is concerned, in which the two main characters simply give in to the mutual attraction, follow their instincts, and create something gorgeous.

Beautiful Beast is an effortless and tender story. While both characters occasionally question what’s happening, whether they are moving too fast, and why they are so comfortable being completely open with the other, there is no angst. Two men follow their hearts, without conflict or concern, and it works, because there is no doubt they are perfect together.

While all the Those Other Books are sensual and sexy, I want to say this one wins the ‘steam award’. Joakim and Kevin’s journey, as they explore each other, is glorious. Every want of Kevin’s is a need in Joakim, every dream Joakim’s ever had is answered by Kevin’s desires.

But, the beauty in this book goes well beyond the mesmerizing love story and the enticing sex scenes. The writing is smooth and engaging, and the descriptions, of our men and the world they move in, are stunning. What’s more, while these two men found each other through the kink they share, there was never any doubt — not for the reader and not for the characters — that what they shared went beyond bodily pleasures from the very start.

It was wonderful getting glimpses of the characters from the previous Those Other Books, simply because I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of these men. Each and everyone of them has worked his way into my heart, and Joakim and Kevin have joined the crew. I adored both of them, their sex-fest enthralled me, and the deep, instant connection between them made my heart soar.

If there was any doubt (spoiler alert, there wasn’t) I can now confirm that Roe Horvat has earned himself a place near the top of my ‘must read list’.

Joakim and Kevin - Business and Ballet MM

Second time reading ‘Beautiful Beast’ by the one and only Roe Horvat. A master of his craft.

Joakim is a 38 year old Entrepreneur who invests in start up IT and environmental protection businesses in Gothenburg, Sweden. Kevin is a 29 year old Ballet Dancer from the farthest North of Sweden.

Initially they ‘meet’ on Grindr, both desperate to feed their special needs. They spend several days just texting or on IG until they finally decide to meet.

Within minutes both feel the sparks between them and then there was no stopping them.

Kevin is the Beauty and Joakim is the insatiable Beast that does everything to make him happy and keep him by his side.

This book is the latter part of a bundle ‘The Other Books’. There are 4 books each one focusing on a different couple but all appear to be mentioned in each book.

If you’ve read anything of Roe Horvat’s you know this will be a great read. You will need to open the windows and let out the steam while reading this one. Don’t read it on public transport 🧨💥⚡️❤️🔥😂

You've ruined me. Okay, so we're heavy on the kinky sex and a tiny bit thin on the plot in this, the 4th one. It is lighthearted. I like how the author puts it out there. So, no complaints from me. Still, hands tied one of the best erotica series I've read, if ever. That says a lot but it is true. I say as much because, well, there is alot of lackluster out there. Dear Author keeps it simple and defined. And beautiful. Now, everything will be compared to these books. No more schmaltzy sex scenes that come out of nowhere and are completely ridiculous. Please! When you've had the best, the rest is just that, the rest. Sounds like a good title for Dear Author.

It's why we readers keep plugging along. Always on the look-out for the next big one. 💜

Yep just like all the other book from the series was this one was just as good!!
It was so lustful, dirty, sweet and dedicate that I couldn’t stop reading it.
Both MCs Kevin and Joakim were made for each other, they were just perfect and I loved how they also immediately realized it.
They’re them both were so gently, kind and understanding but also dirty and so worshipful.
Both found Someone were there could be just themselves it was so beautiful to read.
