The concept was good but the execution could’ve been better. I get that this is an intro level reader but it was so repetitive to the point that it makes you not want to read the book. I’m not sure how the book is in Spanish but in French something about the translation was a bit odd. I wish they’d used a some synonyms instead of repeating words like “cruel” 50 plus times. I personally enjoyed the facts at the end more than the actual story. I suppose this could be a good book to intro a unit on French Guyana or environmental topics.

Teachable-book-a-week #9

I get that you need repetition of vocabulary and phrases in language learner literature, but the way this was done in this story felt very unnatural and stilted. The exact same sentences and points kept being repeated over and over. This was not compensated by the story for me. Perhaps I'm not as fond of silly stories but it felt a bit too random and with gaps in the plot (the trees will regrow out of seeds in time for the lake to be filled again before the predators eat the capibaras?).

Maybe for beginnig French readers all of this is compensated by the sense of achievement at reading a story for themselves, but this wouldn't be my first pick of material.
