The Divorce Attorney

Rate this book
What are you supposed to do when your insanely hot divorce attorney leans over after you’ve signed your divorce papers and seductively whispers in your ear, “Give me a call if you want to know how it feels to be handled by a real man since you were clearly too much woman for him,” before sliding his business card over and walking out the door?

I mean, what do you do with that?

Sure, I’m tempted. I just lost a hundred and eighty pounds of stupid, cheating man. I deserve to treat myself.

The thing is, I think he might be too much man for me.

After all, he’s fifteen years my senior, though he doesn’t look it.

But the urge to learn what this seasoned pro could teach me proves irresistible.

And as it turns out, he’s a pro at a lot of things…like destroying people’s lives.

Melanie grew up in the Midwest, but she loves living in the Southeast (where the beaches are!) now with her husband and daughter.
Melanie's other passion is traveling and seeing the world. With anthropology degrees under their belts, she and her husband have made it their goal in life to see as many archaeological sites around the world as possible.

This is a short book with 195 pages. It is sweet, it is fun and it is emotional. It has its hot moments but it wasn’t as hot as I expected it to be. It was more on the sweet side.

I can't say it was great but still I enjoyed my time with it.

*********************************************

The hero in this book is 38 years old and the heroine is 23.

Normally I don’t like it when he is 15 years older than her. This book should have been one I would avoid. However, I had a crush on its cute cover and wanted to peek inside 😊

But I am glad I gave it a chance. I don't regret it.

I never minded the age gap in this book because it wasn’t the way I hated. It was enjoyable for a girl like me, who hate older men.

It is all because our hero, Carter, was nothing like the old men in some books who are dominating and like the daddy kink. Nope, he wasn’t like that. There was no BDSM shit, no dominance / submission, no daddy kink (not even a hint of it). He even said he wanted to see her wild side, not any submission whatsoever. Ergo, there was nothing to bother me, reminding me the age gap.

*********************************************

This guy, Carter, is utterly charming. He is fun, he is sexy and he is emotional. Just the way I like.

Carter is probably experienced but he is not a man-whore.

All along, he acted like the age gap didn’t matter as far as what they felt was real. She didn't mind it either. They even made jokes about it. Therefore, I was OK with it, too, seeing they fit so well no matter what.

Believe me when I say it is rare that I can accept this age gap. I can accept it easily if the woman is older but I loathe the daddy fantasy so I hardly ever fancy a hero who is 15 years older. So do believe me when I say Carter is adorable no matter how old he is.

The heroine, Sloane is a sweet girl with a crazy streak. She is witty, funny and sweet. She is sexy as hell.

Sloane is getting a divorce because her husband cheated on her. In the last minute her lawyer changes and there she meets Carter as her new attorney. Carter is also divorced because his wife cheated on him.

*********************************************

Insta-love

Carter and Sloane have so quickly become such an adorable couple that, although it was too insta, I believed in them. I believed what they felt was real. They had palpable chemistry.

Normally, falling in love in a week would bother me. I would prefer it to happen gradually but in this case, I felt their connection, so I was OK(ish) with the insta-love.

Thank God, the time for their marriage and kids came gradually enough.

*********************************************

There is a plot twist that I hated, which causes a short separation but they overcome it easily although it is a big deal.

*********************************************

Writing:

The book has a light tone. Its writing is humorous, which makes you smile most of the time.

It is written from the first person point of view: Only Sloane’s.

The writing has made me feel. Although it has very long inner monologues, I can't complain much because mostly they were fun. But they are really long. For example, Carter asks Sloane a question and for 3 pages, she thinks about something and tells us about it before she actually answers his question. I sometimes had to go back a few pages and see where the dialogue got broken and what the question was. It was sometime too distracting. So, although her inner monologues were fun, they were really too long.

Another problem for me about its writing was the unnecessary focus on so many people. Sloane has 3 best friends and because the writer will write a book for each one, there is too much time devoted to each one of them so that we are invested in their stories and would like to read their books. Sadly, it steals a lot of precious time from this book, from the story of Carter and Sloane.

*********************************************

Safety:

It is pretty damn safe - no problems whatsoever 😊

*********************************************

My rating:

This is one of those books that you enjoy your time with it while reading but they won’t make a lasting effect. At least that was the case with me. So, 3 stars for the fun and very likable characters.

*********************************************

Here are a few QUOTES that I liked…

“Life has a warped sense of humor sometimes. The timing can be so confusing that it fucks with your head, making you think it’s not meant to be, when in reality, it’s exactly meant to be.”

***

He groans. “Stop saying sexy things if I can’t keep you with me all day. I already want to make you come sit in my office like a wall ornament so I can look at you whenever I want.”

***

Life is crazy sometimes. It takes unexpected twists and turns that usually pop up at times when you’re completely unprepared for them. But that doesn’t mean those are necessarily the wrong paths. They may not have been part of your original plan, but that’s why plans should never be written in pen.

Overall it was a sweet, entertaining, fast paced romance with wonderful characters and I really loved the banter, and especially how they joked about their age difference (15 years). I adored Sloane and Carter and was cheering for them from the start. They had incredible chemistry and made it quite a steamy read. I'm lowering the rating mainly because of the plot twist in the second half that was a little bit far-fetched imo. Fortunately, it was solved quickly and there wasn't any unnecessary drama further on.

I guess this was an OK read and I didn't expect that plot twist at all. It was too insta-lust for me, it was funny at times and the characters were OK. There's nothing more to say about it, it was just a decent read that I'll probably forget about in a few weeks. I'm not sure if I'll read the next books in the series. 3⭐

if it hadn’t been for the insta-love on crack I could’ve liked this but in matter of days they have fallen in love with each other.
It’s completely safe. As in no other woman/other man. Hero gave no indication that he was a whore.

That was my fear from the beginning. There isn’t that much detail of his sex life other than that he was a divorced man with a cheating spouse. No worries she doesn’t even show up in the book. The drama came from the heroine and her father. He was the man the hero’s wife cheated with. Hero didn’t know this fact.

Hero is a chaser and for the people who likes possessive hero he was one. He’s also a good dirty talker.

This book did not work for me because of the insta and the lack of hero’s POV but it doesn’t mean it won’t work for someone else.

Insta, but I like it for this story.😘
RomCom with plenty lol moments.
A wonderful hero and a lovely heroine.
A light but it wasn’t shallow storyline, love that twist toward the end:)
Overall, entertained me enough for a few hours.

Really enjoyable and Laugh out loud funny , had me in fits one minute and palpitations the next.
I loved every page and am Dying to read the books of the 3 friends.

These two were brilliant characters, their chemistry was off the charts and their banter perfect.
He’s so cool and calm, with a big protective spirit inside him.
She feisty , loves easily and falls hard , a sensitive woman .

This was my first by this author , but even as I write I’m looking into her past books , I’m hooked.

(🌟🌟🌟 out of 5 stars)

Sloane is a 23 year-old woman who is getting divorced. As to why, read the book. Her lawyer was changed to the guy named Carter Van Gordon which she did not know about til she had to meet her lawyer in their office.

Carter is a fierce lawyer who has quite the manly appeal. I must say, i understand why she was attracted to the man. Lol anyway, Carter is 38. After Sloane’s divorce process, Carter offered her himself if she wanted to be treated by a man. That’s where the story begins.

I have no complaints about the story because suspenders and bow ties? Real cute and attractive, to be honest. However, i did find the writing quite different and i thought there would be more feels and factor to it. For some reason, i did not connect to this book though i really wanted to—it’s why i requested for it in the first place. It just didn’t work that much for me.

Would still recommend if you’re looking for something sexy to read! Happy reading!

When Sloane's divorce attorney isn't available thanks to having gone into labor early, Sloane is pleasantly surprised to find the attorney stepping in to take over her case is a gorgeous hottie wearing suspenders. And he's clearly the dominating force in the conference room. And he gives her the proposition of her life minutes after her divorce is signed off. Whew!

But Sloane's got some baggage thanks to her cheating ex's erosion of her self-esteem. She doesn't think she is anywhere near Carter's league, so is determined not to use the number he slipped her. Carter's used to going after what he wants, though, and tracks her down at her new job. Will Sloane give in to what they both so obviously want? Will her rebound become her permanent? And what if Carter and she are entwined in one very negative, unknown way that has the potential to completely sever their burgeoning relationship?

I love when sassy meets confident, when love brings seemingly unbreakable men to their knees, and that's exactly what happened in The Divorce Attorney. Carter is so calm and confident, so sure in what (who) he wants, and he fell headlong into Sloane, a hot mess who couldn't see her own worth. I love how steady he was with her, how determined he was that she see herself the way he saw her. This is such a satisfying, sweet, hot read and I adore Carter. He's honestly the very best part of this. Sloane's friends are a close second, though, and I can't wait for her friend Harper's story coming up next.

4 "Red Bow Tie" Stars!

The Divorce Attorney was a real treat! Sloane and Carter's "meet cute" is definitely not a normal one. Sloan is getting divorced and Carter ends up taking over her case at the last minute for another attorney. Their attraction is instant, but Sloan isn't interested in jumping into another relationship since she is getting out of a very bad marriage. Carter decides Sloan is worth pursuing and does just that. Eventually, she agrees to a date. From there, their relationship experiences a bit of a roller coaster ....

The Divorce Attorney has a little bit of everything I enjoy in a book. First, it's an age gap romance (Carter is roughly 15 years older than Sloan), Second, I love seeing a woman who was taken advantage of by an absolute jerk in the past find love with the "perfect man." In addition, the secondary characters were easy to like and helped to make the storyline even more engaging. I look forward to reading about their stories in the future.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Vibes are 5 stars! Age gap done perfectly.

Witty banter, humor, steam, I loved it! This was an age gap but I loved the heroine. She was smart, mature, funny. Carter is her divorce attorney and the sparks fly. He’s hotttttt and the way he talks to her, I can’t. It was perfect.

Munton is a new author for me, and I have to say I was incredibly pleased with her style of writing. It had an easy relaxed flow of a storyteller. As if your part of the scene and not the reader.

This story revolves around the life of Sloane and Carter. Now, Sloane meets Carter who is the owner of the law firm which is handling her divorce. Unfortunately, her attorney went into labor early so, Carter will be handling the case.

From the moment they caught sight of one another they were both quite pleased (of course after Carter can get past her wench costume, she must wear to work that showcases her extremely large full breast.) There was a connection. When they break the ice, it makes them see each other more clearly as people.

Sloane could not get over how fit and young good-looking Carter looks. He is a very sexy man, especially for his age. She figured thirty to mid-thirties. You see she’s only twenty-three. When they finish the meeting with her ex and before she leaves, he asks her to call if she would like to go out.

When she doesn’t call at the end of the next workday he goes to the bar where she works. Wench outfit was a dead giveaway. She is floored, pissed, flattered, and feeling sassy when she meets up with him there. Tries pushing him off her scent but he pushes back. But, by the end of the week she relents and goes out with him, she decides to go out on a date. So starts the dance…

This is a story filled with sexual banter, sex, and humor. These characters are all witty, funny, and sassy. For sure for 18+. Provided by netgalley.com.

I really liked this story. Over all the characters are good. Sadie is completely sassy southern bell. For too many years she allowed a man to make her feel less than. He was dishonest from the onset of their relationship. But she is breaking free from him. She is shedding her worthless husband name and all. She is ready to live her life for herself. Living her best single life with her friends.
Then she meets her sexy substitute divorce attorney. And shamwow she is hot for him suspenders, bowtie and all. Carter is 15 years older than Sadie and he to has a life filled with regrets and brings his own baggage and doubt to the table. Carter is an example of a perfect southern gentleman. He is increditably sexy with his dirty talking mouth and fierce protection of Sadie.
On a story level this was a solid 4/5 read for me. I can’t wait to read the follow up stories in this series. This was my first time Reading anything by Melanie. I really enjoyed her character interactions. Their personalities came through as unique and only made the story that much better.
On the technical side this was a 2/5 read for me. This was not a well edited copy. Random sentence and pages breaks. It also has random numbers, maybe page numbers, with in the story. I am going to assume I have an earlier copy and not the final product. This really needs a strong final edit before going to publication.

Fast paced. Addicting. Age Gap. Steamy. Hot. Must Read.

This was a really fast and fun read. Sloane just divorced and when her original divorce attorney is going into labor, she meets her Carter Van Gordon. He is immediately entranced by her as she is described to have an amazing body. With an age gap of 15 years, they started hooking up as Sloane was encouraged by her best friends to use him as a rebound.

From the start, the chemistry was on point. Sloane is sassy an witty while Carter is not only hot but also intelligent. Contrary to slow burn reads, this was really fast paced but equally steamy.

I love the writing style. It was so easy getting into the book and I was definitely intrigued waiting for the “bad thing” to happen. After all, the book was really fast and Carter seems like a perfect guy. Personally, it isn’t realistic cause they barely knew each other (less than a week!) and I’m not a firm believer of love or connection at first sight. But hey, it’s fiction so I was ok with it.

Overall, It was really good and I really enjoyed it. I recommend it a lot to my fellow romance lovers!

All Sloane wants to do is put her ex and their painful marriage in her past so that she can focus on her future but when her lawyer is replaced by Carter she wasn’t expecting the attraction she would feel not only to him physically but also the power he exudes when it comes to his profession.

Carter was enchanted by Sloan from their first meeting and once their professional relationship is concluded he wants more. When she doesn’t follow up on his offer the chase is on as he visits her at her place of employment.

Fun and flirty Carter is exactly what Sloane needs in her life as he is older and knows exactly what he wants in his life and that is her. She has just ended one relationship and doesn’t feel she is prepared for another one especially with someone like Carter, but he is determined to show her just how wrong she is. Although there were a few setbacks on their journey there is no doubting they are a perfect match.

3.5 stars

“The Divorce Attorney” is only my second book from the author. The blurb sounded interesting and that’s why I picked it up! It’s not like something I normally read, but it’s good to get out of my comfort zone once in a while! This is a romantic comedy with age-gap trope.

Sloane never thought that she’ll be getting a divorce so early on life. Marrying on a whim with a man she didn’t really know was after all a bad decision, since her soon-to-be ex-husband cheated on her. What she couldn’t anticipated either was the hot older divorce attorney representing her. The attraction is instant, from the time she sets eyes on him. The feelings are mutual, and that’s how he ends up propositioning her after her divorce is finalized!

The story was good! I found myself laughing many times. However, I had some issues with the characters and that’s why I didn’t give the book a higher rating. Sloane was talking with herself too much for my liking and I didn’t really like Carter’s attitude at times. All in all, it’s a story I enjoyed, that made me laugh and it was a nice change from my usual reading!!!

I saw a teaser for this book and immediately had to go digging for more information on it. I hadn't read anything from this author before this but I can guarantee I will be looking into more from her now.

I am a sucker for southern charm and these characters had it in great abundance. However, that wasn't what made me fall in love with the story, instead, it was the interactions between the characters. Their dialogue, inner musings, and banter were perfect. I also appreciated the cute chapter names and watching them connect. Even though this technically is an instant-love type of romance it never felt that way. Time was meaningless and didn't really focus on the story. Instead, it felt natural and was adorable.

Great secondary characters that I hope will get their stories too. I LOVED the preview of the next book to come. There were some editing issues in regards to misused words or spelling but I am assuming those will be fixed in the final editing process.

4.5 rounded up to 5 stars. This book was a lot of fun. Right from page 1 I was sucked in to the story and I actually read the book in 1 sitting. It was full of humor, heat (lots of heat!), banter, and an awesome group of girlfriends that are there for each other no matter what. I was actually surprised how much I liked this book! Many reviews mentioned disliking the fact the story is Sloane's POV only. While I wouldn't hate getting Carter's POV from time to time, I didn't really feel like the story suffered without it. I thought that he made himself pretty clear what he was thinking and feeling the whole time!

This one came up as a book you may like on amazon, and as I love a lawyer romance, I bought it and dived in...and absolutely loved it. I loved Sloane and Carter's story and loved their age gap, proving that age is just a number.

The chemistry between these two was seriously hot, I always believed in them despite the age gap and the fact that they couldn't have come from more different backgrounds. The bumps in the road were different from the usual and while most would say what a coincidence, it didn't actually bother me.

I adored Carter, especially at the end. I wanted more of these two.

Oh this is sooooo good. I can't decide if I like the drama or the insanely hot chemistry more!

Carter just happens to be Sloane's divorce attorney. He is like 15 years older than her and a total hottie. He asks her out for a bit before she eventually caves.

Sloane has some damage, as we all do. Her's is money. Like a lot of money. She wants the simple things.

Carter has this intensity that has the chemistry flying off the pages. He is the best part of the novel. With his charm and absolutely perfect way to apologise. I loved this story and can't wait to read another one by this author.
