Griffen What happens when the only person you ever trusted betrays you? Hope Daniels was my friend. My confident. Right up until the day she stabbed me in the back and cost me everything. My family. My fortune. My legacy.
Now my father's been murdered and his will might be the death of me. It wasn’t enough to banish me fifteen years ago. Even dead, he cant resist twisting the knife. He’ll give me back everything I lost, everything he stole … if I marry Hope. To make matters worse, the fate of the town rests in my hands.
My siblings hate me, that family estate is falling apart, and my father’s murderer is still out there.
My only ally is Hope, the one person I know I can’t trust.
Except this Hope is different from the girl I knew. For one thing, she’s not a girl any more. She’s a woman. I want to hate her. I absolutely don’t want to want her. But I do.
Ivy Layne has had her nose stuck in a book since she first learned to decipher the English language. Sometime in her early teens, she stumbled across her first Romance, and the die was cast. Though she pretended to pay attention to her creative writing professors, she dreamed of writing steamy romance instead of literary fiction. These days, she’s neck deep in alpha heroes and the smart, sexy women who love them.
Married to her very own alpha hero (who rubs her back after a long day of typing, but also leaves his socks on the floor). Ivy lives in the mountains of North Carolina where she and her other half are having a blast raising two energetic little boys. Aside from her family, Ivy’s greatest loves are coffee and chocolate, preferably together.

I liked parts of this story but I was very disappointed with the fact that there is a cliffhanger and the second book will not be out until April2021!!!! There are so many parts of the story that are unfinished. Also all of the areas of conflict between the hero and his family just magically disappeared. The hero started out hating the heroine but then loves her and never talked with her about his changes feelings. He said it in front of her to someone else but never had a sit down heart to heart about forgiving her. I will not be desperately holding my breath anticipating the next book.
This book ends on a cliffhanger, which I LOATHE. If I had known that, I wouldn't have bothered reading it out of principle as well as practicality since it will be some time still before book 2 is out.
Now that i have that out of the way, this was a mixed bag for me. On the one hand - compelling plot opening with a murdered father who was a narcissistic control freak who has a literal litter of children from his multiple marriages. Griffen is the oldest and was disowned as a young adult. The second oldest is in jail for the murder, which none of them believe he committed. Then there's Hope - the woman who betrayed Griffin, ruined his impending marriage, and resulted in him being disowned, aka, Griffin's sworn enemy. She tracks him down and tells him about his father and that he must come back to Sawyers Bend for the reading of the will. Turns out his father has manipulated him and Hope into an arranged marriage and further has required all of his adult kids to live in the family mansion in order to get their inheritance.
One of my biggest hangups with this book (aside from the cliffhanger) is Griffin's relationship with Hope. He 100% hates her at the start of the story and has been holding a grudge against the woman who ruined his life for like a decade. Ok fair. But then we find out that she was in high school when she told someone something she shouldn't have and that person then blabbed, which lead to Griffin's estrangement with his family. So she's a kid who trusted the wrong person and that person ruined Griffin's life, which makes his hatred and grudge a bit of a wtf for me. OK fine. But then it seemed almost overnight that he goes from hating her to loving her and that I didn't get. One of my pet peeves in romance books (aside from those damn cliffhangers) is when a character falls in love for absolutely no discernible reason other than b/c the plot needs them to.
This wasn't enough to kill my enjoyment of the story - overall I liked it - but it does dampen my enthusiasm to continue the series and wait on book 2 (and then book 3... etc etc).
This was great! I mean really, really great. I was a little concerned about it being an arraigned/forced marriage type of thing, but it wasn’t stale at all!! This was really fantastic and I can’t wait for the next book!!
Good grief. So, this began promisingly for an angsty, hate-to-love, arranged marriage story. The H promised to be a grouchy bastard and I like my heroes broody. With apparently good reason, he had a real hate-on for the h - and pretty much his entire family.
Or so it seemed.
Mind you, we're only at 21%, and he's already decided he no longer hates the h but wants in her knickers, which made him an instalust cliché and I don't do insta anything. Also, when I tapped out of this one he was describing a red dress, waxing poetic over how it accented her 'cognac' eyes and teased out her auburn highlights and peachy undertones to her creamy skin.
Shut the fuck up. Men don't think in this flowery, vomit-inducing fashion. The book suffers because Ms. Layne is that breed of writer who is enthralled by her own words. And what happened to all the edgy potential of this story and its angry, estranged hero? Yet another book headed for ye olde shag-fest and I'd much prefer double root-canal with no anaesthetic over reading another boring as hell sex scene in all its mind-numbing, gutter graphics. Clearly the potential here was only enough for the sample. Download the book and it goes to shite in the next sentence.
This was a new-to-me writer, and she's not for me. I require better than this in my books.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I really like Ivy Layne but feel like this book/ series had so much more potential. It felt a little rushed at the end. It wasn’t a bad story but I feel like she missed so many opportunities to make this an amazing story and series like the Winters family. I loved Griffen’s character but was hoping he was going to bring his family together. I think an opportunity to introduce the families characters and set up a solid story line of them all banding together was missing. I’m hoping the second book in this series dives deeper. Over all it’s worth the read but it’s more superficial than the Winters Family Saga.
Hope and Griffin’s story missed the punch needed to make it a good cliffhanger. Storyline was perfect- murdered father, brother in jail for a crime he didn’t commit and a well scripted will that played out Hope’s dreams and Griffin’s curiosity. Yet, as the pages unfolded the fire between the two of them just weren’t there. Too many gaps and not enough love exploration. Hopefully the next book in the Sawyer’s Bend will ignite more than this one.
I loved this story! It has suspense, angst, betrayal, suspicions, romance and so much more. Griffen has been estranged from his family for 15 years because of his heartless father. I think Griffen’s father is hated by everyone in town, even his children. I was glad Griffen had made something of himself without the money from his father. As his father had owned about the whole town of Sawyer Bend. Now that someone has killed his father, Griffen has to go back for the reading of the will. This was just the beginning of so many surprises, heartache, and even happiness. I think Hope was the best part of what came out of the will. I loved Hope and how sweet and caring she was to everyone. She would do anything for anyone. I felt bad for all the situations she was put in that was not always good. I also enjoyed catching up with some of the guys from Sinclair Security from past books. Sometimes people who aren’t related are the closest family we can have. I was on the edge of my seat at times wanting to find out what was going to happen next. I can’t wait for the next book that takes place in Sawyer’s Bend. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.
This is Griffen and Hope's story and a great start to the series. Talk about one emotional roller coaster. Hope was the one who he thought cost him everything, his fortune, his family and his legacy. Now she's the only one who can help him get it back. Talk about a page turner, I found this book hard to put down once I started reading. This is the first book in the The Hearts of Sawyers Bend Series and starts the series off with a bang. the chemistry between Hope and Griffen is off the charts and they are great together. Plenty of drama, twists, danger, attempted murder and family dynamics to keep your attention. Well written with strong, well developed characters and an engaging story line that ends with a cliffhanger when Finn and Aunt Ophelia arrive at Heartstone Manor.. I read an arc and voluntarily chose to review. The book also contains a sample chapter from 'Sweet Heart' an upcoming book in the series.
Always enjoy when characters from previous books are kept current in a new book and this book was no exception. The character development of Griffin was good, disappointing that his confidence seemed inwardly challenged. Really dislike when the ending of a book is such a cliff hanger and the sequel isn't due for another 10 months! Arg!!
If you read “Uncovered,” you got a taste of Griffen and Hope. We now get to find out what it their past and what is it about the murder of his father. He is being brought back into the family due to the death of his father and the framing of his brother Ford. We also have Quinn, Parker, Royal, Tenn, Finn, Braxton, and Sterling. HUGE family but a lot of secrets. And we even have cameo’s from the Sinclair’s. This story is just as intense as the one with the Winters and Sinclair’s. They all have a past and it is the matriarch in this one that we are running to solve the mystery for. A brother’s life is on the line and Griffen is back in the fold to solve it and bring everything to right with this broken family. I love that Hope always stuck by Griffen. She took the brunt of things for so long and when everything starts coming to light, we realize it was all wrong. I love the lead up to Griffen realizing his feelings for Hope. Always great when the man finally figures it out. There are a few funny lines in the book. I laughed my butt off when I read, “One bra for $75? Did it come with an extra set of boobs?” You have to laugh at that. Too good and yet so true when it comes to women’s lingerie. The romantic side of Griffen is in full. Was I shocked about Hope being a virgin and her age, nope. I was too at that age. But Griffen took his time. Well sort of but he was a great teacher and soon the student was pushing the teacher to the breaking point. Yeah! We have a slew of suspects and new members with stories to tell just like the Winter’s. I am so looking forward to reading about Royal and Daisy in “Sweet Heart.”
I cannot believe that Hope Daniels, was a 31yrs old virgin, that acted like a 16yr old adolescent. Her attitude towards Griffen Sawyer, and sex was like watching a high school virgin, instead of a grown a as woman. First off what she and Ford did to Griffen, when she was 16yrs old was so over the top wrong. They literally had him disinherited and thrown out of his family home at age 22 by his father. Then 15yrs later he ended up being forced to marry of all people, Hope. Griffin Sawyer, was not the same Griffen that worked for Sinclair Securities. That Gruffen was tough and a bad ass. This Griffen was soft and I would go as far to say he was somewhat of a pushover. He just accepted his faith with Hope, that he hated for 15yrs because she done him wrong. Now all of a sudden that hatred turned into deep love for her!!! Unbelievable! I could go on and on with reasons why I didn't like this story, but I don't have the energy. Hopefully Royal's story will have more depth and substance.
After the Untangled series this was next and it was disappointing. Griffin was such a big part of that series and I was expecting him to be true to character. Although it was interesting to find out the details of what had happened to him, and Hope’s part in it, the story went downhill after that. Now I’m on the second one Sweet Heart, and realize these are just repeats of the Untangled stories, same exact scenarios, even the exact mixed race of a female character (Lily from Knox’s books and now Daisy with Royal), the almost fatal shoulder injury of Griffin from Cooper’s story and now J.T.’s, the females still getting attacked and beat up, the same bad, evil family members, all just like in the Untangled books. There is much more but I’m not wasting any more time on this. She basically used the same stories and changed the names. I’m done with this author.
This is the first book of the series and it is off to a good start. I read all the Sinclair Security books so I was familiar with many of the characters.
This was a good foundation story introducing many characters in Sawyers Bend that I am sure will be in subsequent books. Griffen became the head of the Sawyer family and took Hope for his wife after not seeing her for 15 years.
The story was interesting although ended with a lot of loose ends, which was a little disappointing because I might forget the important events by the time I can read book 2. The only thing I didn’t like was how Hope seemed to have a child-like quality to her that didn’t fit most of the time with a 31 year old woman. She did live a sheltered life, so that is a partial explanation.
I am interested in seeing what is next in this series.
Loved this spin-off into a family dynamic that's a tad strange! But having the pleasure of seeing some Mansions from the gilded age takes you back to the sub floors with scurrying maids and butlers depicted within the story, that's so refreshing and can't wait to see how this brady bunch fares under the same roof, not to mention these new arrivals, dear ole Dad sure was a piece of work, but 5 years is a long time to screw up or not.
Good story, but like several of the other reviews- I want more! I have read all of the author's previous books so I am very familiar with the characters. Griffen has a lot of siblings. A family tree in the prologue would be helpful to know which child goes to which mother, and if they are male or female. Several of the names could go either way. I'm looking forward to the next book!
Cliffhanger warning would have been nice but to outright lie and say it's a standalone book is beyond acceptable. I purposely choose not to read cliffhanger books until the entire series is published for a reason. Very dissapointed.
I haven't yet read any books by this author. To me there seemed to be too many cuss words. Sometimes I like to read about 'second chances' but this just didn't do it for me. I might give the author another chance looking at the titles I've seen.
This book ends on a cliffhanger, which I LOATHE. If I had known that, I wouldn't have bothered reading it out of principle as well as practicality since it will be some time still before book 2 is out.

A great start to a new series. Following on from the Winters and Sinclair families, Ivy Layne has scored again with the first book in the Hearts of Sawyers Bend, “Stolen Heart”. All of these books are stand-alone, but form a fantastic series,
Nursing an injury, sustained in the line of duty in “Uncovered” - Cooper and Alice’s excellent story which concludes the Untangled series, Griffen Sawyer Is summoned to his home town of Sawyers Bend, for the funeral of his callous, unlamented, murdered father, Prentice Sawyer, who banished him 15 years ago. Reluctant to return, the subdued emissary if this task Hope Daniels tells him the survival of the town and its people, including his siblings is dependent on Griffen’s attendance. As a teenager with a crush on him, Griffen believes Hope was the catalyst for him losing everything when she betrayed his trust. His estranged brother Ford is in jail for the murder of his father, his other siblings hate him and he is forced into a five year alliance.
There is a mystery element to the book which will run through the whole series, as it has done with the Winters Saga and Untangled Series, and makes the books much more enjoyable for me than a straight romance. Hope proves a valuable ally, a genuinely good person who he realises he may have misjudged. She helps him sort out his father’s business dealings and the ancestral home of the Sawyer family neglected Heartstone Manor. I don’t want to add any more detail because that would include too many spoilers but I would definitely recommend you read Stolen Heart, because it has all the components of a great story; excellent writing, heroes and villains which you’ll need to work out for yourself, a great romance, intrigue and an introduction to characters that we will meet in the following books.
I can’t wait for the next book Sweet Heart, the story of Royal and Daisy, the first chapter of which is included at the end of Stolen Heart.
This new spin-off series is off to a great start. I love this story! If you enjoyed the Sinclairs’ series you will definitely want to give the Sawyers a try.
Suspense, betrayal, angst, love, hate, compassion, desperation, suspicion, danger, mystery, and romance will draw you into this amazing story. The complexity of the characters, the well-written plot, and the glimpses of what is to come in the series will definitely keep you invested in this book and looking forward to the rest. As with Layne’s Sinclair siblings, there will be a continuing story arc with the Sawyer’s that begins with Griffin and Hope's journey to happiness.
All the Sawyer children are forced home again after the murder of their father and Griffin, being the estranged son, receives the biggest shock of all at the reading of the will. Demands, stipulations, threats, and a lot of emotional turmoil swirl around him and his siblings when they are forced to comply or lose everything. They all have secrets and carry resentment towards Griffin for their father’s final words and his new role in their lives.
Trust is not something easily shared yet Griffin has no choice, under the circumstances, to put his trust in someone that had a hand in ruining his life yet has become his only ally. Hope has changed from the young, careless girl he once knew and she accepts her responsibility for past mistakes and steps up to stand by his side. Trying to present a united front, more complications arise as dangerous incidents occur that threaten not only the conditions of the will but their very lives. There is plenty to enjoy in this gripping read and even though Griffin and Hope find their happy ever after, there are still many threads woven into this first book needing answers and there is still someone out there determined to destroy the Sawyer name, any way they can.
*I received an arc of this book from Brooksprout, via the author, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review. I have also purchased this book to add to my collection and I am excited for the rest of the stories in this series.
We finally get to read Griffins journey to finding love! One day Griffin’s past shows up in his office and Hope is a totally different person as though her life has been painful. When Griffin returns home for his fathers burial and reading of the will after being kicked out 15 years ago by his mean spirited father things get crazy. Griffin’s not sure how he’ll feel and expects to be back in Atlanta that night. When his mean spirited father throws both Hope and Griffin together, as husband and wife for the next 5 years to keep the family money needed to support the town do things get quickly heated between them and it becomes more than a forced marriage. The one thing that was hard to read was Griffin leaving his Sinclair family behind to fulfill the will. Griffin and Hope have a challenge to update the family Castle and find out who really killed his father as everyone knows it was not his brother, Ford and keep Griffin from being the next victim. I enjoyed reading about the Sinclair couples who help Hope and Griffin as they start this journey. Hope has done wrong to Griffin but when all the facts come out years later she really did something good and Griffin forgives Hope and they move on with a bright future ahead of them. This family and all it’s siblings are going to bring us another great series from Mrs. Lane and I can’t wait to read the next story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I look forward to each and every book this author writes. I am thrilled this is the first book of a new series. The Sinclairs are one of my favorite book families and now there’s a new dynasty beginning. This is Griffen and Hope’s story. Griffen is the black sheep of his family the son of a malicious father who decided he would rather walk away than give his father any more power in his life. He was also walking away from Hope Daniels who he believes betrayed him. The reading of his father’s will is the only reason he returns home, only to find his father may be gone but his evilness is alive and kicking. One of Sawyer’s Bend wealthiest “patriarchs” is dead and not by natural causes. This book opens us up to what Ms. Layne does better than anyone combining wealth, murder, great fully fleshed out characters and sizzling romance. There’s also a whiff of Sinclairs, which always makes me happy. Fortunately, for readers, Hope and Griffen do not practice social distancing and there’s a twinkle about Hope that’s like a lightning bug in a mason’s jar. I’m ready to start a new series and I couldn’t ask for a better author to begin this trip with.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
what the heck happened here....what....the heck........no really.......is someone pranking me or what?
I really tried.
The Will. I wanted to smack everyone. It made me so angry. YES YOU CAN CONTEST THIS! You cannot force anyone into marriage, you cannot force anyone to have babies, you cannot force anyone to live under the same roof...all of that is actual SLAVERY!!!! WHAT IN THE ACTUAL HELL! I'm ok with somewhat unrealistic storylines, but when you have to resort to storylines that would never actually happen but you place them in the 'real world' that's just bad writing.
So now we have Griffen leaving his entire life, the life we've LOVED him in (I love him working at Sinclair Security) with his dumbass family (which we never see him interacting with btw, even though he shares the same roof with). He shares a roof with a ton of people but we NEVER hear from them.
He goes from hating Hope to trying to get into her panties in like a page.
I had to stop and go back to reading some Knox/Lily ---Alice/Cooper--
I love Ivy Layne books. I love the Winters family and the Sinclairs...but damn the Sawyers are a giant disappointment. I loved Griffen in the other books, so this was a huge disappointment.
I have been waiting for Griffen’s book for what feels like forever, but was only a few months. Ivy’s story of Griffen and Hope pulled me in immediately and I couldn’t put it down! Stolen Heart weaves Griffen’s family history with his new future with Hope, while ripe with drama, intrigue and romance. Ivy does great job introducing the Sawyer siblings and setting up another wonderful series; similar to the Sinclair’s and Winters’ stories, there’s a mystery that will prevail through the Sawyer family saga. I did feel the end of the book was a bit rushed and wrapped up unexpectedly, but I also felt that I didn’t want Griffen and Hope’s story to end. The could have been more investigation into Ford’s situation- the expectation was set that there would be some legwork on Griffen’s part that didn’t pan out to my expectations- and I’m sure we’ll learn more in the next book. I’m so excited for this next series from Ivy and meeting all the Sawyer siblings intimately. Let the countdown for book 2 begin!

Loved it. Excellent! So I first started reading Ivy’s books with The Wedding Rescue and I loved it. Then I started the Winters Saga and I fell in love with the family. Ivy create a whole world of wonderful characters. I love reading her books. When she finished off the Winters last year I almost cried but I knew we were going to have a new series and Griffin, who we’d already been introduced to would start the series. I think this is the best yet. I couldn’t put it down. Griffen has been estranged from his family for 15 years and we finally find out who, what and why. Griffen’s father is a horrible man, hated by all. Griffin made a life for himself, in spite of his father and in his own. Now, he’s back to Sawyer’s Bend taking over after his father’s death. This story has it all, romance, suspense, action. I am so excited Ivy has created another world for us to love and enjoy and I can’t wait for the next book. This is a must read. You won’t be able to put it down. I received an arc copy of this book from the author and purchased a copy as well.
“Stolen Heart” by Ivy Layne such an amazing book. I adore her books. This is part of the Hearts of Sayer Bend series. As usual Layla brings these characters to life and allows us to get up close and personal with each of them. This book is Griffin and Hope’s journey together. Griffin was kicked out of his family when he was young and now is being forced to marry Hope in order to keep the town of Sawyer Bend from dying. I adored both of these characters and they are well developed and have a sizzling chemistry. Griffin has been one of my favorites in prior books and He’s such an amazing character. Hope is truly a sweet and amazing women. I don’t like spoilers so I advise you to just read this book and all previous books by Ivy Layne if you haven’t already. You won’t be disappointed. This story flows beautifully and keeps you captivated until the last page is turned. I love that there are more books in this series to come. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
The is a stand alone book 1 in a Hearts of Sawyers Bend series by Ivy Layne. This was my first book by Ivy Layne. I wanted to listen to this book because Joe Arden narrates, and he is always a one click narrator for me. Lucy Rivers narrates with him. I enjoyed both narrators performances and was quickly intrigued with the story. The story starts with Griffen finding out his father was murdered, and he was to inherit it all. Griffen had left the family because his father wasn't a good father, and Griffen had many siblings. I'm thinking we get more of the siblings stories in books to come. Hope has always been connected with Griffen's family, and works for her Uncle who has always kept her sheltered. Both are thrown into a situation they never see coming, and the story picks up from there. Overall, I enjoyed this story, but there were a lot of characters to keep up with. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, that will hopefully tie up some loose ends.
