Speech therapist Fe Hernandez is the most positive woman in the world—except when it comes to love. Years ago, a workaholic physician broke her heart and almost ruined her career, so she has sworn off doctors ever since. It’s very inconvenient that the only man who’s tempted her in ages happens to be a physician.
Dr. Shawn McDevitt is irresistibly attractive—but also the incarnation of everything Fe promised to never bring back into her life. To make things worse, the success of her business depends on keeping their relationship professional. If she had any sense, she’d run away. But he’s the father of her most challenging case, and Fe has never given up on a child.
ICU specialist Dr. Shawn McDevitt has had a rough couple of years between hate letters, work upheaval, and the collapse of his short, stormy marriage—not to mention the small-town gossip that he murdered his wife. His son’s speech delay might become the last straw. All Shawn wants is a little break in life, and the break he craves is Fe—the only woman who can make a difference in his son’s future. It’s going to take super-human discipline to keep his hands off her for the love of his son.
When the hate letters take a sinister turn, Shawn and Fe risk losing more than their budding relationship. Is Shawn’s bad luck going to hold, or is Fe right to believe that everything works out for the best?
This heartwarming story will make you laugh, cry and swoon with crazy families, hilarious friends, and lessons in unconditional love. But most importantly, it will bring you the joy of knowing it's okay not to be “normal.”
Fe Hernandez is a speech therapist, specialising in children. Despite what some might view as a difficult life she is eternally optimistic. Her only rule is that she will never ever date a doctor again.
Dr Shawn McDevitt seems to have everything anyone could ever want, but seems eternally dissatisfied. After his wife was murdered his son disappeared for a year and now appears to be developmentally stunted, perhaps on the autism scale. His father never stops criticising him, and praising his rivals, his peers dislike him and he's lonely. When he accidentally ploughs his bike into a beautiful woman in the park one day he is entranced and intrigued by her sunny outlook and gorgeous looks but devastated when he finds out she will never date a doctor, even worse when he finds out they actually work at the same hospital. But fate is with him and he is referred to Fe as a therapist who might be able to help his son.
Swirling around the romance and the therapy are professional rivalries, the mystery of Shawn's wife's death and the little matter of threatening letters that he keeps receiving.
This read to me like an old 1980s romance where the man is a big important doctor and the little woman has a caring profession like nurse or nanny and is totally self-sacrificing. Shawn has no clue how to look after his son and spends all hours at the hospital whereas Fe is deeply nurturing and caring, despite wearing skin-tight clothing and skyscraper heels (which I would have thought were impractical when working with children but what do I know).
I have to admit I was very close to DNFing this book, especially when Shawn kept referring to himself as a physician and such a catch that women threw themselves at him, not just women but gold-diggers. See why I thought it was a reprint of an older book? Also, why are female friends in al these books so god-awful? Fe's friends were ghastly.
But I persevered and overall it was an enjoyable romance but I think there were maybe a few too many plots swirling around.
Also, some interesting views on the way that the medical profession is quick to label people/ children as on the autism spectrum when there may be other contributing factors to development issues. I liked that and I would love to have seem more of Fe's work and less of Shawn's political dramas at the hospital.
“Everything happens for good is the trick to changing your attitude. And everything is about attitude.” (2)
“Even what seems like senseless bad luck will always bring something good in the long run.” (3)
Fe is a divorced, Latina, single mom. Even though her marriage to an egotistical and manipulative man ended badly, her marriage gave her wonderful kids. Still, she learns not to make the same mistake twice.
Dr. Shawn has always had bad luck. On a bike run, he runs right into a woman—into Fe.
Both characters have good hearts. I enjoyed the streak of back luck (funny and ironic.) If it hadn’t been for this bad luck, they never would’ve met. Too bad she doesn’t date doctors.
In an effort to steer clear from the handsome doctor, Fe learns about the rumor about Shawn: the rumor was that Shawn killed his wife. What? Fe didn’t need to get mixed up with all that. She was having a hard enough time putting together her own speech therapy business, especially since her ex—the respectable doctor—was bad-mouthing her all over the medical community, running her reputation and her career prospects. But what happens when Shawn’s autistic son becomes a hopeless case and Fe is the only answer?
In the midst of trying to clear their good names, Fe and Shawn work together to help his son. And Fe is actually really good with him. The two characters actually connect over the child’s disability. Even though I did think Fe dressed too inappropriately (I mean, she’s around kids for godsakes!) I think they were good people that deserved love and happiness.
I applaud the writer for writing about children with disabilities and special needs, for showing the world's differing view of them. My child was diagnosed as being on the Autism Spectrum 4 years ago and at times this was a hard read for me, some of the therapy scenes were almost identical to what we went through, people not understanding that our child blessed our lives and the grief that some parents can experience when the child they are gifted is not what they imagined.
The writing is good and the characters interesting, I didn't always agree with some of the thoughts and actions of the charters but that's just relating to my own personal values and views. This is the first book I have read of the author, and yes I did have a few questions re Faith's friends and what had happened in the past, but not enough to impact on my reading I don't think.

I received this book as an advanced read copy and I am going to do by best to give an honest opinion of what I read.
First let me say right off the bat that this is an amazing story. The Author makes you think out of the box about the people more importantly the children and people that have special needs. Not seeing as someone that is incapable of doing certain things but capable of doing things that we never really thought about. To see their gifts.
This story is about two adults that are both fight different and yet similar difficulties. Through reading the story you will get to see each of them try to come to terms with things in their past, and maybe try to make a future for themselves if it is possible. Fe Hernandez has been divorced from her doctor husband for sometime. She left him because he never spent time with his family and was constantly working. He wasn’t even there for the birth of their daughter. He put he cardiology practice before everything else. Even thought the man has remarried and had another child with his new wife he is constantly trying to call Fe and bullying her. He has withheld child support from her when he knew that he should have and could have been contributing to the care of his children. Fe is a speech therapist and her mentor is one of the best in the area though she will be retiring soon because of the cancer and treatments she had to remove it from her vocal cords. Fe feels like she is always having bad luck but with her upbeat attitude she take the bad luck and tries to turn it into something good.
Dr. Shawn McDevitt is a doctor of Pulmonary medicine, he is also a widower with a three year old son who is a special needs child; but is in denial and has guilt over what has happened to him. He doesn’t know how to communicate with him and his hurt and frustration is evident. He is also receiving hate mail again. He had been getting it the year before his wife mysteriously left him with his son. For the year that she was missing he did receive any but then she was found dead in a hotel and Aden his son was found wondering the streets blocks away from the motel where her body was found.
It was blind luck that Fe and Shawn bumped into each other literally. It was amazing to read how their relationship was for them crossing on hurdle after another. Will they ever find out who is sending the hate mail? Will Aden ever find his voice and what about Fe’s two children. This is a fantastic book and there is no way that I can give it the full credit that it needs without spoiling some of it for you. All I can say is this is one book that must be read. It is so different for any of the romance novels that I have read before; and I loved it.
I devoured this book in one day. It was everything I hoped it would be. This story has it all. I love the colorful secondary characters and I didn't feel like I needed to read books 1 & 2 to enjoy this novel. Fe's friends and family are hilarious (eat the sushi roll) and Shawn loves all of her quirkiness (and even gets a few tears out of the confirmed non-crier). This story is told in dual points of view, which I love - Being inside Shawn's head was so much fun. I'm hoping for a book 5 ** hint, hint - Dr Emery Love**
Based on her workaholic, married to his work, elitist doctor ex-husband, Fe (Faith) has sworn off all doctors. She's devoted to her children, her colorful family and friends, and her career as a speech therapist. Even though life has given her one problem after another, she continues to always see the bright side of things.
Dr. Shawn McDevitt (or McDevil as he sometimes calls himself) feels as if he has nothing but bad luck. Starting with having his name being spelled wrong on his birth certificate, to having a cloud of doubt hanging over him due to his wife's death, to his young son who is non-verbal, his life has been nothing but one failure after another in his father's eyes.
All of this changes with a chance accident on a bicycle. Almost immediately, Shawn realizes she is 'the one' for him and he has to figure out how to get past her 'no doctors' rule. When things go from bad to worse with his non-verbal son, he convinces Fe (Faith) to take little Aiden on as a client. Through her non-conventional techniques and throwing labels out the window, Aiden begins to communicate and is even helpful in determining what happened to his mother.
Even though the focus is on Aiden, Shawn learns so much more about himself and the relationship he has with his own father. Fe learns how to relinquish the hold her ex-husband has on her life and that she shouldn't categorize all doctors as horrible people (After all, her ex was a surgeon - As Shawn points out)
Pichardo-Johansson has a new fan. I can't wait to read books 1 & 2.

🌴☺A gorgeously heartwarming 💕romance and so much more!🌴 😷👪👫 October 9, 2018
👍👍 What a great story, filled with lovely family moments, romance, passion, and even a murder and stalker mystery to be solved. The main three children who are a big part of the cozy heart of this story have or had special needs. Their ability to make strides in conquering their emotional and physical issues provided a hopeful message that ratcheted up the quality and enjoyability of the story for me.
Other great points to this book include the humorous and sometimes risque banter provided by heroine Fe and her group of gal pals; the continuing mystery of who killed hero MD Shawn's estranged wife; the suspense provided by Shawn's stalker and poisoned pen note writer, and the overall good feel provided when Fe's lovely extended family gets into the mix. I can't think of any element of this story I did not like! Shawn, particularly, was a great character, with lots of problems, most heaped upon him through no fault of his own but annoying to Fe. And Fe is usually a ray of sunshine until one of her boundaries is reached and then, look out!
A story with nothing to critique is not usual for me; I read alot and have become quite critical when it comes to romance plots and their execution. This one I enjoyed beginning to happy end, including the fact that although there's definite passion between Shawn and Fe, it's not too graphic, prolonged, or over the top! Definitely recommended.:-)
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
There is a lot of story here, with several different layers to the plot line. I adored Shawn from just about the first moment he stepped onto the page. It nearly killed me to suspect him of wrong-doing in the previous book. My reactions to Fe took me on a tilt-a-whirl, because I went around in circles loving and hating her in turn. The way both Fe and Shawn overcome their emotional baggage is so uplifting. Unfortunately, all of the drama and angst they (and me as the reader) go through to get there frustrated the living daylights out of me. For people who made such a big deal about “using their words”, Fe and Shawn spent a great deal of time not talking about what was important. It’s beautiful, and inspiring, and a whole lot of crazy-making. I am in awe of the delicate way the needs of differently abled peoples are handled in this book. I would love it if more of society would behave in this way that supports them. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Hidden Gems Books.
The author really opens your eyes in respect to children/people that have special needs. This book sucked me in right away and made you fall in awwww over the characters, especially Aidan and Gabriella.
This is about a wonderful woman who is smart, funny and caring about everything and everyone around her. She has the most positive upbeat attitude about life, even though her ex-husband is still attempting to make her life miserable, she doesn't let it keep her down for too long. When a cyclist literally runs into her, sparks fly. But Fe has a strict rule...don't get involved with a doctor. But said doctor desperately needs her help. No matter how hard they try, their strong attraction is hard to deny.
This book will bring you on a journey full of hope and dreams and love.
I received an advance readers copy of this book and voluntarily give my review.
Fe made a promise that she would never get involved with another doctor ever again after her divorce. During her run in the park she gets knocked off her feet by Shawn. They spend an amazing day together just talking and laughing but onec Fe finds out that Shawn is a doctor she storms off. Once Shawn finds out that she is going to be his sons speech therapist he decides that he is not letting her go. The Latin bombshell is going to be the perfect wife for him... and she doesnt know it yet. This was an absolutely fantastic and entertaining book. The characters were very well wtitten and so realistic that you can relate to them. There is suspense that will have you asking " who did it? " wonderful funny moments that will have you laughing along with the characters and heartfelt moments were you find yourself holding back tears too. Love this book and highly recommend it.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.
This was such a great read. Fe, the main character was so well written I could visually see her & envied her ability to just be her authentic self. She was a wonderful example of a strong women who never compromised her core beliefs. She was open to life & all its adventures, as long as it included her family & those she loved. Her belief that no one should be labeled ,left her heart open to love & gifted all those in her circle to grow & thrive. A lesson in faith, hope , & love resonated throughout this romantic story of two people who really were "the One" for each other. I didn't want the book to end. Next??
This book had so much potential, but I found myself struggling to read it because it was excessively long. I admire the author for writing a wonderful story with special needs children—it was presented with much grace and understanding. The characters were well developed; however some of them appeared in the storyline and I wasn’t sure of their purpose. This is an extremely long book that requires patience to finish. Even though it’s long, it’s a story worth reading. Give it a try...(I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and found it very interesting.)
Touching!! This story puts the light on the way those with special needs should be treated should be treated like everyone else. Shawn is a devoted father with an autistic son after the murder of his wife. Fe is filled with optimism that is contagious to those around her. Great characters, story, and writing make this an interesting read. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Faith is Fearless is book number three in the Sunshine State series by D Pichardo-Johansson. This is speech therapist Fe Hernandez and Dr. Shawn McDevitt’s story.
This is a sweet and heartwarming read with suspense. I loved the characters and how I could feel their emotions. The way the author incorporated and portrayed the children with special needs in the story was fantastic.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Loved this story and the characters. Jose you are a man of many talents. Fe marched around her insecurities until she nearly lost the grand prize of all. Aidan was loveable and a joy to be with him on his journey. The aim of this book is lighten up, there is a silver lining if only you are not afraid to see it.
This book was a fantastic rea The story was great & well written.Shawn & Fe were an astonishing couple together. The kids made the story more interesting kept you waiting to see what happens next.Than you throw in mystery & drama & a surprise twist with death threats.Could not put down. Amazing story.
Extremely entertaining, captivating, and interesting read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong and intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This book was well written, with well developed characters, and a great story line. I enjoyed the author's treatment of special needs children and the way it was incorporated into the storyline.
First there was Hope for Harmony, followed by Just for Joy. Both of these books, in the Sunshine State series, were special reads, with strong and appealing female leads, abounding in romance, mystery and positive ways of living. As much as I adored Hope and Joy, their friend Fe “Faith” Hernandez, who gets her turn in the spotlight in this new book is my favorite. Fe is a bundle of Spanish passion, warmth, and happiness. She believes in good luck and the blessings of life, even when others might think that she’s had a bad run.
Fe is blossoming and bursting with love, passion, and vitality. No wonder Dr. Shawn McDevitt falls for her, after he literally fell on her during a bicycle mishap. But, it’s complicated. He’s a suspect for murder and is dealing with the FBI. She’s had a sad marriage and horrible divorce from her first husband- hence her “no doctor’s rule.” And Shawn seems to Fe to be like the same kind of driven, workaholic, passionless guy. Plus, there’s the added complication of kids with problems. Add in too much “helpful” advice from friends and family and anyone might think they have had too much bad luck.
“You’re doing it again. Your speech is turning ultrasonic and your hands look like you’re flagging down a helicopter to rescue you from a deserted island.”
Is our Faith fearless enough? Will she remain convinced that even what “seems like senseless bad luck will always bring something good in the long run?”
Fe/Faith could star in her own TV or telenovela series (and I hope she does) so readers aren’t going to stop rooting for her to find her lucky ending. Fe happens to be a speech therapist- which is an interesting occupation for a book character. She is a gal that readers will long remember. Enjoy!
Thanks to the author for an ARC. This is my honest review.
