This novel was good but not great. I had this story in my 'to be read' pile because I could not remember reading it by glancing at the summary; however, once I began reading the novel I learned that I was clearly mistaken. Liz Isaacson has been one of my favorite authors for a while now, and I thoroughly enjoy each one of her novels as they become available. I subscribe to both of her pen names, that way whether she is writing as Liz or Elana, I never miss a book. I believe that this is one of the rare times that I will rate one of her novels below four to five stars, and this is because it was not memorable. Once I got into the novel, I remembered, but typically I remember way before then. I do recommend this story story for anyone looking for a quick and easy read. The love story will not disappoint.
She has everything . . . he thinks. He has nothing . . . he thinks. Nothing but an honorable record as a Marine officer in a brutal war. Nothing but a great work ethic. Nothing but the love he has for her. And his love is all she needs. Isaacson presents a portrait of a small town with community spirit, willing to reach out to a man who grew up with only his father, marrying into a family with nine children. Recommended for anyone who loves old-fashioned romance with strong women as well as strong men.
I am not planning to read this ever again. It was just okay. I have loved Liz’s books in the past and the mediocrity of this one surprises me. It just seemed to skim over things and have no depth.
The leading man bothers me. He has emotional issues and holds himself to a standard that his fianceé doesn't. Money was an issue between the two and readers really didn't get to hear how the issue was resolved.
The Marine’s Marriage is the first book in the Fuller Family in Brush Creek series by Liz Isaacson. After retiring from the Marines, Tate Benson has arrived in Nowhere, Utah in order to fix up his late grandfather’s house and join the local police department. Wren Fuller has her days filled with running the family’s cleaning company. While Tate calls and needs a maid for that morning, Wren decides to clean the house herself. She discovers that Tate is her new neighbor and behind his rude exterior hides a kind heart and a wounded soul. As Tate keeps his cool exterior, he and Wren can’t help but be drawn to each other. The Marine and the maid seem to be a match made in heaven. Can their new relationship weather the storms of past wounds and look to the hope of the future? The Marine’s Marriage is a grumpy-sunshine romance with hope, healing and faith. It is a fast read, fairly short. A perfect book for an afternoon of reading. I enjoyed the introduction of Wren and Tate. Wren is the quirky member of the Fuller clan who wears the shirts that irritate her mother. And Tate is the man carrying more than physical wounds. Their first meeting was funny with great banter as Wren goes toe-to-toe with grumpy Tate. The romance between Wren and Tate was good and I enjoyed their happily ever after. However, the sheer number of secondary characters was overwhelming and keeping track of them all was difficult. Overall, the story was good; however, I was not intrigued enough to read the rest of the series. If you enjoy stories of hope, healing and faith, I recommend The Marine’s Marriage.
The Marine’s Marriage is available in paperback and eBook.
I received a free copy and am voluntarily leaving a review Tate is retired from the Marines and moved to Brush Creek to be a cop. He is moving into his grandfathers house that has not been lived in for many years and is run down. He calls a cleaning company that happens to belong to Wrens family and she is the one who runs it and answers his demanding call. Wren is the only one available to go right away to clean the house so she does. Tate asks Wren to show him around town so he can get to know the area and shop owners before he starts his new job. As they do this they find they are fighting an attraction to each other. Then all of a sudden Tate decides to call things off and just says things won't work. He thinks that because she comes from money that she wants to live in a certain lifestyle and with what he makes a as a cop he will never be able to provide that for her. Will Wren be able to convince him that she doesn't need that lifestyle like her sisters do? Will she be able to convince him that with both of their incomes they will be financially fine? Will Tate figure out that if they work together and talk about things instead of just assuming things they will be fine?
A gentle romance, one where the characters are dealing not only with issues of wealth, but also coping with hurts of the past. Tate takes up his inheritance in Brush Creek, a derelict house that needs hard work and all the money he has. His neighbour Wren, helps run her family’s business and when Tate phones in looking for a once off maid to get his house into shape, she fills the gap. Despite the attraction between them, Tate is more focused on the fact that Wren’s family is wealthy, but completely overlooks the fact that they are also hard working and have no qualms about rolling up their sleeves. Wren, with her funky t-shirts and studious glasses, respects Tate’s choices, despite the pain that it causes her. It takes sound advice and a wake up call for Tate to realise that there is more to relationships than wealth and he has to reassess his situation. A generally well written and clean novel, a number of characters from previous books appear in this one as well, but it is nevertheless a standalone with a happy ending. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Wren is doing what she does best, managing her family's business! On this particular Monday, she arrives 15 minutes early and the phone is already ringing! She ignores it to put her lunch in the refrigerator and when it starts up again just 5 minutes later she goes ahead and answers. What she doesn't expect is for the voice on the other end to be so demanding! He needs someone to come clean his house right now and she doesn't have an opening for another week! After he offers her double their going rate, she decides she will go and have all her calls forwarded to her cell. When he comes back to his house, two hours after she has started, after dropping off his horse, the first thing she hears, while cleaning the bathroom, is "you call this clean?" The house has set empty for 9 years! Wren has done an amazing job so far, even if she says so herself! So tells him that the dust he sees must have settled within the last 30 minutes and offers him her duster! WOW, he takes it and realizes it must be the hair from his dog. Where do things go from here? Only one way to find out, read this great story by Liz Isaacson, you wont be disappointed!
When Tate Benson calls Wren Fuller looking for a maid, he expects to have one on the doorstep within the hour. Wren's family is big, but so is their business, and every single member of the family is already out on another job - except Wren, whose job is to man the office. Realizing that the caller is her new next door neighbor, curiosity has her forwarding the office calls to her phone and driving out to do the job herself. What kind of man barks out an order to a woman he's never met, and doesn't even apologize?
While Tate and Wren initially get off on the wrong foot, it's not long before the sparks that are flying are more along the lines of romantic ones than irritation. Can their budding relationship survive her ginormous family? When he realizes the wealth she's used to, will his pride get in the way of a love that could last forever?
Travel back to Brush Creek for this sweet romance. So far, this was one of my favorites in this series. I liked the fact that the place didn't change, but the occupation did. While there are cowboys in the story, the main character isn't one. I think readers will like this one a LOT!
We're back in Brush Creek and meet Wren Fuller, a kooky dressing member of a very large and very rich family, who falls for her handsome, but introspective new neighbour Tate. As with all Liz Isaacson books the common themes are love, heartbreak and dogs!! Wrens family are loud and boisterous and understandably a bit terrifying for Tate, a former marine brought up in his own by just his dad. It's quite amazing how the romance blossoms when the first thing he does is bark orders at her, but blossom it does and through its many trials, a satisfying conclusion is reached. I admit a few times i wanted to give Tate a little clip round the ear for being so stubborn, but all in all a sweet, clean romantic read. I voluntarily agreed to read an advanced copy of this book.
Tate Benson and Wren Fuller don't get off to the best start when he calls the cleaning company wanting a maid right away. Wren decides to take the job on herself--only realizing later that it is for her new next-door neighbor. Despite the rocky start, Tate and Wren become friends and eventually more.
Tate's inherited the home and found a job as a police officer in town. It seems a bit of a win-win to him but many of his colleagues assume he was brought in to replace the current boss. Tate only has his father for family but they seem to share a good relationship.
Wren on the other hand has a huge family--enough that it could be quite overwhelming for some.
I'm not sure how I even ended up with this book on my tablet, but I'm glad I did. This was a quick read that didn't tax my emotions too badly. It is Christian centric so if you don't like the mention of God or church going folks then I would steer clear. There is also zero sexual content so if that is what you are looking for I suggest going elsewhere.
I thought that Ms. Isaacson did a good job of developing her characters. They both grew as individuals and as a couple. I didn't think it was long enough for complete development and I would have liked to see a glimpse into their future with maybe an epilogue but it does have a HEA.
By half way through I was ready to stop reading as I lost interest. I preserved to the end but it didn’t really get more interesting. I felt characters or events never developed they just sort of happened and moved on. The main characters were suddenly in a relationship days after first meeting and after having barely spent any time together. Problems at work were sort of just there and then next time they were mentioned things were better. They thought about looking into the past to find out information on his mother and then decided not to. Lots more of these sorts of problems and issues were mentioned but nothing came of them.
This is the only book I've read in the series and it seemed like a stand-alone book to me. It's a story about Wren and the former Marine, Tate. They meet near the beginning of the book and as romances do, they are attracted to one another. This book was labeled a "Christian Romance," but it is very nominally so. The book is clean, and the characters go to church on Sunday, and there are two or three mentions of God and prayer, but that is about it. There is no real mystery in the book, just a nice romance with some nice characters. I enjoyed the book as a change of pace from the suspense novels I usually read.
Rounding up on this one. It wasn't a favorite for me. I've enjoyed other books by this author but failed to feel the chemistry between the love interests in this story. Two near strangers are suddenly boyfriend and girlfriend, proceed to spend time together where he is either napping or working while she watches him and their connection is strained. He brings her dinner and breaks up. No warning. Then they are both broken hearted. I just hadn't seen any real romance between them to leave them feeling so bereft.
No sex, language or violence

Tate moves to small town Brush Creek to start a new life and new job as a police officer. Wren comes from a big family and pretty much runs the family business. Tate calls the business and Wren drops everything to help some guy... little did she know she'd be helping her next door neighbor who had just moved in and is very handsome. Can two people from very different lives come together? This is a fast paced book with a great love story. I loved these characters and how they helped each other out.
This book was sweet and clean. The faith element was kind of all over the place. But the story was enjoyable. I love a story about a wounded warrior, and while this hero's scars were on the inside, he was an interesting character. The heroine was a little too forward, but she seemed to have good intentions. I didn't hate her. If you enjoy sweet, clean, contemporary romance with a liberal dash of faith thrown in, maybe give this one a try.
Sometimes when people are drawn to one another it is because of the common ground they share. Sometimes opposites attract even more strongly – which can lead to problems when the differences are great. The story leads you through the stages of attraction and getting to know one another and the problems that surface. Compromise and being honest with each other shows that love can still be a dream come true.
Tate retired after 10 years as a Marine. Lost his best friend. Divorced and he survives? He moved to Bush Creek to start a new life. Ren spent her whole life in Bush Creek As part of a generational family. Prospects for boyfriends were slim pickings. The handsome Marine turned police officer in the middle child of the fuller family met fell in love, broke up, got back together. Will they live him happily ever after.
Tate Benson has moved to Nowhere, Utah to fix up a rundown house and be a police officer. When he needs the house cleaned immediately, his short fuse causes a miss-communication between him and Wren Fuller. Wren runs the family business, and needs to step in when an emergency comes up and nobody else is available. The chemistry between Wren and the fiesty, retired Marine is undeniable, but she's sworn off military men...even if they live next door to her! This was a charming, clean romance.
I love the little town of Brush Creek and was happy to go back there in this book. I'll admit I wish there was more of the ranch family in this book, but it was still a good story. I love Wren's quirkiness! She is really fun and sweet. I enjoyed the relationship between Tate and Wren and their story, but I wish it had gone deeper. It's probably just my personality, but I don't understand sitting around watching the man do all the work. Other than that I enjoyed this book.
Been having trouble with my internet, Goodreads picked up being read from my Kindle. So, I really enjoyed this Romance. I voluntarily chose to review this story and I've given it a 4.7* rating. It pulled me in pretty quickly and had to find out what happens. It was a pretty quick read and since I couldn't use the internet, I had more time to read. A nice, feel good story at the end. Warning, heroine is a perky person.
Ex-Marine hires a maid service to come help him clean his Grandfather's house. Filling in for one of her maids, Wren decides to take the job herself. She meets him and thinks he is pushy. From there they become interested in each other until his past starts to bother him. He starts to doubt he can take care of her on his salary. Not a bad read about relationships and taking care of other people.
A marine returning to civilian life moved into his grandfather's long abandoned home and takes a job with the local police force.
It's not easy though, the house and hard are wrecked from being abandoned for the better part of a decade while he served, and most of the police force won't talk to him because he was a marine so he must be there to take over the chiefs position. The only bright spot is the woman who lives next door.
Another great book about God and how he can help people.
This story is about two people from different worlds who live next door and become friends they really like each other but he can't see how they can marry because she is from a rich family that has always lived in this small town and he is new to town and does not have much money but he finally prays for God to help them find a way.
I found this book in my TBR pile but titled as The Marine’s Marriage.
Enjoyed Wren and Tate but did feel the story could’ve lingered longer on the relationship getting started as it seemed too full on in break neck speed. Otherwise enjoyed this story…and can’t wait to read about some of the romances in the rest of the Fuller family (Wren’s).
Recommended for a quick, light read with God mentioned throughout.
