Elyse Douglas – Time Shutter – Reviewed 5/2/20 – Read 4/20-21/20 What do you do when you find that your only way back to your time is damaged???
Caitlin Thompson’s father was a genius that had worked on special projects that had ultimately been canceled, and her father had retired. He had explained to her that they had involved time travel with a very special camera. Now today, he tells her that he had also told his ex-wife about the camera, she, in turn, had told her daughter, Lizzie all about it. Lizzie was a criminal half-sister that had a crazy boyfriend. Her father wanted her to take the camera and keep it safe, in case she might need it. She had refused for a long time but, he finally wore her down and she had taken it. She begged him to leave the area as Lizzie was trying to get her hands on it. Now her father was dead, knowing in her heart that it was at the hands of Lizzie.
With both Lizzie and her boyfriend chasing her down the streets of New York City, she is running for her life. When they get her cornered, as a last resort before she hands the camera to them, she uses it. They disappear, the camera sent them to 1890. For some unknown reason that she can’t figure out, she Googled to see what had happened to them. It turned out that Lizzie had not changed her ways, still marrying and then killing her husband for financial gains, with the help of her crazy boyfriend. With revenge as her motive, Caitlin decides to go back and warn her next husband, plus she wants to make sure that Lizzie pays for killing her father. Now the story begins…
What did I like? As all of you know I love time travel books, second best to westerns! Elyse has been one of my favorite authors for some time now. She has the genre of time travel down pat. This is not the first of her books that I have read, every single one of them has been off the charts and in the five-star ratings. Too bad that there is not a ten-star rating because all of her books would fall in that category!
What will you like? Wow, exciting and fascinating ranks at the top of the list of adjectives. Interesting and scintillating would be the next two. Characters that are unique and fascinating but the neighborly type. The storyline will take you from 2018 to 1890 without skipping a beat. With her stimulating descriptions and details, you will be as comfortable as you are today. The attention-grabbing action will keep your nose in the book till the last page is turned, and then wanting more!! Don’t miss this remarkable book, it releases on May 5th.

The premise of Time Shutter by Elyse Douglas intrigued me. I really enjoyed the idea of a camera flash and people not being in the time they left. However, it did not pan out as I hoped. I did not connect with the main character Cate like I thought I would. I really wanted to like Jack, but after revealing his secret he lost all interest to me (it was predictable in my opinion), but as a reader I could tell it was coming. Part of me wonders if my overall enthusiasm for the story dwindled because of the pacing. It seemed a bit slow in places, but not in others. I feel like several things were not earned and the flow seemed very choppy. I didn’t know enough to really care about any of the characters other than maybe the father. I enjoyed his part of the story immensely because it had more depth to it than the rest in my opinion. Despite certain characters and the pacing I would give this book a three stars out of five and I would recommend it because I understand that not everyone enjoys the same things out of a book. Maybe another reader will see something in the main character I missed? I get sucked in by characters and a good story. Time Shutter had a good story, but the characters weren’t what I like as a reader and honestly, that’s okay. I look forward to reading another book by this author in the future.
Truly magical, fantastical, phenomenal and so much more 🥰
Elyse never ran out of her over the edge blockbuster romance with heart wrenching plots and gorgeous characters!!! Time Shutter deserves more than five stars, if only I could, I’ll make it double 👍 Cate, you’ve got it … supergirl, seriously? Your three straight to the point shots totally and forever erased the huge devil in disguise Gunther the villains’ first in command😡 And… here’s the very praiseworthy action Cate had ever done in her life… throwing the narcissistic Cruella II into the 17th century where she should rot in hell and swallowed by the biggest shark in the sea 🙄 good riddance, evil woman 😡 Lizzie 😈 Jack Flint? Well, he is the super hero that Cate has been waiting for in her entire life!!! suffice it to say that a “merry go round” has successfully turned into “Marry me, Cate?” Wow ♥️💟💝 a happily ever after? All these were achieved thru the genius ability of her dad Andrew, whose super powerful Time Camera hasn’t only saved and changed American history, but has proven to be the catalyst towards his beloved daughter’s future… love and marriage with the one she genuinely love, Jack Flint from 1900, who saved her life over and over again, and who truly loved her with all his heart and soul ♥️💟💝 Thanks Elyse and Douglas, you’re both Timeless beyond words 🥰
I had a really hard time getting into this book. I felt like the beginning was really slow and it took almost half the book before it really began to develop and I started to enjoy it. The book is about a girl who time travels using a camera her father developed. The purpose of her time traveling is to avenge her father's murder. The book had quite a few twists and turns in it that were unexpected, however, there were several points that I thought were a bit out there. Not the time travel part more of how some of the situations were dealt with. While in the end, the book was intriguing and enjoyed the second half more I'm not sure I'll read more by this author. I'm just not a huge fan of the writing style. I think I prefer something that is a little more fast past and this book had more build-up, which is great if you like that style.

A father gives his daughter a time travel camera that can take her back in time or even forward. That night he is murdered by her crazy stepsister and her boyfriend. So the hunt begins to find the camera. When the daughter accidentally sends stepsister and boyfriend to the 1890s nYC, she is aghast. She later learns they are still robbing an murdering people, so she decides to visit 1890s NYC to right a wrong. Enogh of the story.
The description of the 1890s and of NYC at that time was vivid in detail. The storyline was better than most well-developed and with believable characters. I just liked it! (and it's a clean read)
This book was a lot of fun.. ok, so, come to find out - I LOOOOVVE the time travel genre. The romance kind, the science fiction type - it doesn't matter, it's all pure gold. I think it might stem from the Back to the Future movies from when I was a kid lol idk but I really really enjoyed this book.
So the character development and the descriptions of the different time periods were really well done. Oh, and I like the idea of a camera flash being the focal point of the time portal. I don't think I've ever heard of that before in reading this genre... Clever!
I look fwd to reading more from Elyse, 4 gold stars for you Miss Douglas!
Thanks BookSirens for giving me the ARC so that I can share my opinions with y'all 💛
I became thoroughly and grossed in the characters and setting of this novel. To the point that I stayed up last night until nearly 4 AM, I was so caught up in the story. I finally forced myself to go to bed, got up at my usual time and continued reading to the finish during and after breakfast. I’ve read and enjoyed many of Elyse Douglas’s books and have loved everyone of them. I look forward to finding another Elyse Douglas book that I haven’t yet read. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a story filled with suspense, danger, and romance in a setting framed by time travel.
Time travel romance. The author does a pretty good job of writing about the different time periods. She keeps everything exciting. I am a fan of these time travel style books. Just always seems to put a little bit of a different spin on things. I recommend this book if you like time travel stories, romance stories or even some drama thrown in with Caitlyn trying to stop stepsister Lizzie and her boyfriend from evil deeds.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Who would believe that a camera could send a person back in time. It worked for Caitlin and her father from 2018 to 1900. Sending enemies away then looking for them to get revenge. Doesn’t always work out how one wants. Falling in love with someone from the past but then leaving them going back to the future. But dear old dad does a wonderful thing and brings his daughters love of her life to the future. Where is this camera? Hopefully the wrong person doesn’t get a hold of it.
Overall not a bad time travel romance, however there were a couple of issues such as the fact that the camera was not invented until 1839. Yet, Jack simply accepts that there is a camera, at one point telling Cate to take her time travel picture or whatever she needs to do. Cellophane didn't exist in 1820, but in a card game the dealer is said to peel the cellophane off a new deck of cards. There were a couple of plot issues that didn't make sense. All of these things are easy fixes, so I don't understand why no one pointed out the issues before publishing.
I always wonder how Elyse Douglas comes up with a method of Time Travel. In this case, it’s a train tunnel which takes a murderess back to the turn of the century in Denver. I loved the plot and the characters. Lots of bad guys, against one good guy. I loved the ending. I guess most people could guess one of the possible three outcomes of the story, but I missed it. A quick, fun read. A stand alone novel.
While this story in not perfect, the start is really slow and boring,I had to skip some pages, the book is enjoyable and a fast read with good twists. The main characters are compelling. Would like to know more about them or other characters not fully explored... New york 1900 is ainteresting period and so little is showed here.
these characters seemed real, not special agents for a time bureau, just saying people. the scheming widow was a good plot idea, and how to earn wealth in a past time. cate's use of her own skills rang true, too. I will have to come up with a skill I could use just in case I go back. enjoyed the journey.
After reading some of the author’s other time travel novels I was expecting something more complex. This was closer to the movie serials of the 1940s for kids. Characters are one dimensional and opportunities to explore the era are ignored. Write this off as a learning experience for “Elyse Douglas” and hope the other titles will deliver the goods.
A fast and fun read, with wonderful characters and an entertaining plot! Okay, and I loved Jack Flint! The book is a great escape to another world and time, and I felt like I was there! I received this book as an ARC, but the opinions are mine.
Part romance, part thriller — with a clever plot — the story gripped me from start to finish. This author has written many other standalone time travel stories. I intend to read all of them...
I resisted this book although I have read and enjoyed several Else Douglas Time Travel books. But this one was sheer fun! And sweet. These authors do alot of research. I loved this one!
The story was interesting. It took a long time to get to the main story. Filled with slot of hate and revenge. It kept me reading until I was done. Glad it ended well.
You will love the hero and heroine, hate the two killer villains, and get so involved in reading it, you can't put it down. The ups and downs are amazing!
This was such a good story but all through the beginning I kept on thinking that she could have just gone back a few days and stopped the murder of her father. Other than that I loved how the story took shape, really enjoyed it.

What an imagination Elyse’s Douglas has, I loved this story. She brought her best stuff here and it was a fantastic read. I can”t give enough kudos for this. If you a time travel reader- this is one you must read!
