Davey’s Rule #85: Daddy will always treat his boy like he's Daddy’s world… because that’s how it should be!
Note: This is a 37k collection of short stories that follow the final book in the Davey’s Rules series.
Revisit all your favorite couples and families from Daddy’s Lap in this five-part, seven-story collection that shows them all living their happily-ever-afters.
These stories include:
A unique bachelor party, wedding, and new proposal that take place during a long weekend in Vegas.
The day when Travis and Adam officially adopt their daughter.
The fabulous moment when Sammy and Davey say ‘I Do’.
Mikey and Landon finally share how they became a couple.
And finally, get ready to smile as Davey and Sammy welcome a new baby.
This collection of shorts is number eight in a series about not-so-perfect Daddies, adorable “boys,” and one sassy brat with an insane list of rules. Grab your fan and tissues because this series comes with both a high heat advisory and all the squishy feels you’d want from a Susan Hawke book. Please be aware that this is a bonus book to the series, a 37k collection of shorts rather than a full-length novel.
Susan Hawke is more widely known for her mpreg writings as Susi Hawke; this new name is a departure from that. Whether written by Susan or Susi, the books are filled with that all-important love, laughter, and family; the only difference is that this name has no male pregnancy.
Who knew this would turn out so great. You have two weddings, Preston and Bryan, a year later Davey and Sammy. To top it off, Davey and Sammy welcomes a new addition to their family, a baby boy. Chris learn how Landon and Mikey first met each other, which was an amazing story. Bryan's brother, Travis and his husband Adam adopted their foster child Mickey aka Michelle. Everything turned out so great for them. I really enjoyed reading this series.
this was adorable, glad to see all the couples get their happy ever after's.
this was the perfect way to end the series, i am going to miss these Daddies and their boys, so i am looking forward to my reread whenever that comes about!
Susan Hawke’s Rules For Loving is a 100% satisfying group of short stories for fans of her Davey’s Rules series. (Honestly, IMHO, I’d love to see Ms. Hawke continue to write about the characters from Daddy’s Lap forever.) This is definitely not a standalone, and if you haven’t tried any of the Davey’s Rules novels yet, I highly recommend them.
I’ve done the whole series in audio, performed by the wonderful Michael Dean. As marvelous as these stories are, they wouldn’t be the same for me without Mr. Dean’s sweet, sultry, and sexy voice.
an audiobook copy of Rules For Loving was provided to me for the purpose of my honest review
What better way to finish the series than with a collection of stories where Susan Hawke gives us a glimpse into some of our favorite boys and their Daddies HEA? One proposal, two weddings, a birth and a lot of unforgettable moments and Michael Dean's awesome narration make this book a must-read for fans of the series. Super recommendable!
You know, when I read the last book, I was really sad that it was the end. I was hoping for something like this. To see where their lives took them and how things had changed, if at all. And I was very happy to see this. So so happy. It is the perfect ending to these guys, in true diva, daddy/boy style. There's not a lot to add to the blurb without giving too much away. It's perfect. Seriously. If you've kept up with these guys and all their stories, then the stories are so them. They are sassy, sexy and downright hilarious at the antics and snark that comes from them all. It's full of boys being naughty and daddies with their hands full and so much happiness and love everywhere. It doesn't mean that their lives have been easy. Not by any means. It doesn't mean they haven't or don't have trials they have to get through. But the important part for all of them, is they learn to be happy with who they are, how to communicate, and how to move forward and be happy in their lives. They've laughed a lot of laughs, cried a lot of years, thrown some major tantrums, but through it all, they've learned what true family is. They've stuck together, had each other's backs and taken the next steps in their lives. Scary as they may be.
I really enjoyed getting the follow up look at the HEA for some of Susan’s characters in this series! You would really need to have read the others to enjoy this one though!
What a great way to end the series although I'm sad to see it end. We got a chance to see them all get their HEAs with wedding and engagements and adoptions, basically a peek into their lives after. The boys are still snarky and sometimes naughty and their daddies keep them all in line. Fun series!!
This is a funny, sweet, and emotional ‘What are they doing now’ status check-in with the series’ sexy couples. In all honesty, I was satisfied with the ending being Davey and Sammy finally getting together. With that said, I did enjoy Mikey’s & Landon’s first date story. So for me, this was just an okay, though cute read.
While I have not read every single book in the Davey's Rules series, I thoroughly enjoyed this compilation of stories that lets us revisit couples from this series.
I just about bawled my eyes out when I came to the part about Davey and Sammy's wedding; it was so sweet. I loved reading how Mikey and Landon got together and the kind of rough start they had with each other. And reading about Davey and Sammy's new baby – more tears. OK, I admit it, I'm a crier. When a book really touches my heart the tears inevitably come. So, Rules for Loving was a fantastic book for me.
It will come as no surprise to anyone that Michael Dean turns in another fantastic performance. If you're a fan of the Davey's Rules series you won't want to miss this one.
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
I enjoyed this novella and getting to see what’s happened since Rules to Ignore, Davey and Sammy’s book ended. Each short story/bonus scene is reviewed separately below:
Vegas Trip - This short story is about Preston and Bryan’s wedding in Vegas. I liked getting chapters from different characters POV’s. I enjoyed seeing how close they still all are. They definitely got up to some fun times while in Vegas which doesn’t surprise me since they’re all in D/s type relationships.
Happy Rhymes with Pappy - This is a bonus scene showing Travis and Adam officially adopting their foster daughter Mickey. Man, she was totally adorable but also made me laugh with her rhyming words especially when she told the judge "Thank you, bank you, sp*nk you, shady lady." Adam and Travis will make awesome dad’s and she’ll also be surrounded by so much love with her extended family as well.
A Perfect Day for a Wedding - This was a bonus scene showing Davey and Sammy getting married. This one definitely made me emotional especially when Sammy swore he could smell Raphael’s Old Spine that he used to wear, so it seemed like Raphael blessed their union. I loved when Milo and SJ told Davey that he’s not going to be Uncle Davey anymore but they’d like to call him Dad if that’s okay with him. I’m really glad that they’re happy.
Tell Me a Story - This bonus scene is with Chris/Topher, Landon and Michael/Mikey. As they were all cuddling in bed. Chris asked to hear how Landon and Michael met. Their first date was a disaster but it was really cute that both Michael and Landon had the same worries about the date. Michael thought Landon wasn’t the d*ddy for him since he didn’t even offer to cut up his food and he was worried if he showed him Mikey that he might be laughed at, and Landon didn’t think Michael was the boy he’s been looking for awhile as he didn’t even ask for Landon to cut up his food. I’m glad that Gemma matched them together and that they got their second chance at seeing that they’re actually perfect for each other especially because Mikey needed a d*ddy.
Oh Baby - This bonus scene is about Sammy and Davey becoming parents again, as they’re at the hospital with SJ, Milo, Sammy’s nephew Jeff/Jeffy, his husband Marcus, Davey’s father Scott, Davey’s baby stepdaddy Cam, Davey’s mum Sondra and her husband Walter, while they all wait for the surrogate to give birth to their child. I’m glad that Sammy told Sondra what he thought of her suggestion about changing Milo and SJ’s last name to Hendrickson to match their dad, their papa and their baby brother. Davey and Sammy had dropped their hyphenated name of Robustelli-Hendrickson awhile back since it was such a mouthful, and have gone by just Hendrickson ever since.
Sammy told her that it isn’t any of her business aside from knowing what to address the kids. Milo being the little peacekeeper that he is, told her the following "It's okay, Grandma. Everyone's families have different names. S.J. and I might change our names someday if we get married, or maybe we won't. But we had a family meeting and we all voted for Nathan to be a Hendrickson like his fathers. We got our da's last name when we were born, so it's only fair that Nathan does too. We want to stay Robustellis in honor of our da, and that's okay too. Dad and Papa both said so." It was beautiful and made me tear up a bit.
I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
Rules for Loving is a collection of short stories featuring the characters from the Davey’s Rules series. In order to truly understand and enjoy this collection, you need to read the first seven books. This collection contains five short stories: The Vegas Trip, Happy Rhymes with Pappy, A Perfect Day for a Wedding, Tell Me A Story?, and Oh, Baby! – each story is full of fluff and humor while giving us a look into some important milestones in each couple’s lives.
The Vegas Trip: It was mentioned a few times in the previous books, but finally we get to see Preston and Bryan’s big day! Instead of doing a high society wedding like Preston parents would expect and Bryan’s mother would demand, the couple instead makes this special day their own by “eloping” in Las Vegas, with all their family and friends surrounding them. As you would expect with any Vegas trip that includes the men from Daddy’s Lap, there’s shenanigans galore. My favorite part was seeing how everyone interacted together while they went full out during this wedding vacation. All the characters have grown so much and are so happy with their lives.
Happy Rhymes with Pappy: This the sweet moment when Travis and Adam officially adopted their daughter. Cuteness overload!
A Perfect Day for a Wedding: Finally, Davey and Sammy’s wedding. This had all the emotions and humor you would expect from these two lovebirds. A beautiful wedding ceremony for a beautiful couple.
Tell Me A Story?: Although we have Daddy Landon, little Mikey, and pup Tofer’s love story in book four, Rules for Growing, but we never got the backstory on how Daddy Landon and Mikey met. “Tell Me A Story?” is that backstory, and it’s just as adorable and sweet as I hoped with just the right amount of humor.
Oh, Baby!: This is the last story in the collection and it marks a new chapter in Davey and Sammy’s lives as they become parents again for the third time. Humor, joy, and reflection as the men wait for the birth of their new child.
I listened to the audiobook version of this book, and LOVED Michael Dean’s voices for all the characters. I had previously read the first seven books on my Kindle, so this was my first time experiencing Michael’s voice choices for each character. He did a great job of embodying all the characters, especially having to voice so many different characters in a big group setting. That definitely took some vocal gymnastics, but he pulled it off fabulously, and I had no trouble following along. I listened to half of this book while I was running, and there were a few moments I had to slow down because I was giggling and not breathing properly for the run. I probably looked like a loon if anyone was watching me, but I was thoroughly enjoying this book and completely in love with all the characters and their stories.
This book is a must-read/must-listen for anyone who has been following the Davey’s Rules series. And if you haven’t started that series yet, then you definitely should check it out if you love Daddy kink, sassy boys, romance, and amazing characters.
I have loved this series from the beginning. Watching each couple coming together – through laughter, more than a few tears, and joyous celebrations. I’ve felt invested in these relationships. I grieved when Raphael died, but have rejoiced that Sammy has gone on to find happiness.
These five vignettes are all about established couples. One is a look back. Landon and Mikey were an established Daddy/boy pair when they took on Topher as their puppy. But the origin story was never told – before now. I chuckled as they endured the worst date ever through to becoming the solid couple they are today. They are so perfectly suited and bringing Topher into their happy home was seamless.
The story of Travis and Adam was always sweet, but their decision to adopt their daughter Mickey was precious. There are so many children in the world who need love, I was glad to see the two men opening up their hearts this way. As Mickey says, “Happy Pappy, don’t be sappy.” Needless to say, her rhymes had me in stitches.
Then there’s the wedding in Vegas. You know when the boy says to his daddy, “toothpaste isn’t lube, Daddy”, that there are some fun reminisces. I had enjoyed Brian and Preston’s book, and seeing them tie the knot was special. Add to that weekend the most romantic proposal - as well as a bachelor party to remember - and it was a great story.
Of course Sammy and Davey were not to be outdone, so they had to have a wedding as well. I was truly touched by their special day. Anytime a family comes together it’s perfect. Which brings me to the final story. I hadn’t really thought about Davey and Sammy expanding their family. They have the two wonderful children from Sammy’s marriage to Raphael, so I figured their family was complete. Uh, how wrong was I. Naturally Davey deserves the opportunity to have a child of his own. The Diva Daddy needs to be able to strut his stuff. Can I see him changing a diaper? Yeah, I can. He was great to Sammy’s two kids so I know he’ll be amazing. Does he stress at the whole birthing thing? And does the thought of being responsible for someone for the next eighteen years bring him into paroxysms of panic? Yeah, those too.
This book was a great way to revisit all of my favorite couples while adding more to their stories. The vignettes are told with the same humor and yummy-feels that I expect from a Susan Hawke book. I was so pleased to see Michael Dean return to narrate these stories. I always enjoy his performances and this one was as good as the others. I’ll miss these men but something tells me I haven’t seen the last of them all yet.
A loving series of short vignettes to wrap up the "Davey's Rules Series." Susan has lovingly taken the fans of the series into the future where we can drop in on a Vegas beach wedding, a proposal in a gondola floating through a canal in Venice. We get to witness a little girl finding a forever home with two daddies who are also a "Daddy and boy." As happy news comes for a puppy, we travel back in time to learn how his boy and Daddy met before bringing him home. There was also the story of our favorite Daddy Diva and his Princess adding to their family with a HEA for the masses.
My eyes may have watered a smidge over events in past books from this series, but I really shed a few when this one was over. Happy and bittersweet tears for the end of one exceptional series that I have loved reading from the beginning.
The cast in the books are people who stay with you long after the story ends. Michael Dean is phenomenal in bringing the characters alive in the audiobooks. I love this series and will treasure it for years to come.
**This is NOT a standalone.
The Story: 4.00🌟 The Narration: 4.00🌟 Overall: 4.00🌟
I received a complimentary audio copy of this book from GRR in exchange for my review.💐
* Witten by Susan Hawke - another favourite author of mine * Sass * Daddy/boy relationship * Characters you fall in love with * Addictive and hard to put down
Usually, when a book ends I don’t care too much for epilogues, so I was really hesitant reading this book, even though I loved the series so much and loved all the characters, I was unsure how this would go. But let me tell you now, I loved this book so much, it was the perfect ending to everyone’s story :)
The book is a collection of short stories, bringing us back to each couple.
Travis and Adam officially adopt their daughter Mickey aka Michelle.
Bryan and Preston get married in Vegas and it couldn’t have been a more perfect weekend for those two.
We get to witness Davey and Sammy’s wedding and how special that was.
Chris gets to learn how Mikey and Landon first met. This was a story that we needed but didn’t know we needed.
And finally, Davey and Sammy welcome a new baby boy to their family, with all their family and friends around them to help them celebrate.
This book was the perfect ending to everyone’s story. I loved it. I can not recommend this series more.
And yes, once again Michael Dean has done an amazing job of narrating this book, he is a definite master of his trade.
I’m reviewing the audio edition. These stories brought out the laughter and tears. Everyone needs a little Davey in their life. He is so bratty and caring. I don’t know if these are SPOILERS OR NOT SO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. Davey presiding over Jeff and Marcus’s wedding and then crashing the honeymoon really made me laugh. Davey’s birth anniversaries. Great idea. Davey’s interactions with his parents both funny and oh no moments. Also Davey becoming a new father…..just wow. I don’t think any child could find a more caring parent if not conventional. I can just imagine Davey at school or elsewhere defending his children!! I loved this series and am sad to see it end. I was lucky enough to be able to listen to it on audio and think Michael Dean made these characters so dimensional.
This is such a beautiful collection of short stories that check-in with the wonderful couples of the Davey’s Rules world and lets us see how in love they all still are and what they have been doing with their lives.
With a wedding, a joint proposal, an origin story and all the sweet feels you love from Susan, this is the perfect finale to a much beloved and wonderful series! I loved this whole series and all theses boys and their Daddy’s will be in my heart forever!!
If you haven’t read the series, you need to! There’s just so much to love!!!
Exceptional book, all the books were good but this one was very good be gcause we got to see what the other characters were doing at this time and in the end got fixed that Davy was really a Daddy at heart and not a Boy. But to see that he really was a Daddy was just wonderful. Triple A fo.r a way for this series to end.
All the books were good but this one was good because we got to see what the other characters were doing at this time and in the end got fixed that Davy was really Daddy at heart and not a Boy. But to see that he real was just wonderful. Triple A for way for this series to end.
I had no idea this book was coming out!! I’m so happy we finally got a little story of how Miley and Landon came together and all the weddings and engagements and babies. It was a perfect end to all the families. I loved it and wish there was more lol of course. Susan Hawke did an amazing job. definitely read when you are finished with the others in the series 💜
A brillant, heartfelt and sexy finale to this series!!! 4.5 stars
Susan Hawke is one of my quick-click reads and Rules for Loving (Davey's Rules #8) was everything I didn't know I was craving! An awesome reunion of the main characters we fell in love with, complete with a hot and exciting bachelor party in Vegas, romantic wedding and family joining, and new baby in a collection of short stories. And as always, Diva Davey, Sammy and the other boys and Daddies don't disappoint!
This series is one of my favorites in MM romance and in my opinion, it is one of the best in this topic. After 7 books, I thought everything was settled until I read this book and discovered that without it the rest of the stories were sadly incomplete. Some of these shorts filled out blanks in the original stories and others are epilogues that presented us a wonderful HEA for our beloved characters. Together, all of them are a magnificent complement to round up nicely all the Davey's rules.
Its a fabulous story. The whole set. I want more. She is a lovely author who can reel you in and never let you go. I love it. Hate to see it end. But she ties all ending so not left with cliff hangers. As I said i love the whole set. They ended up everyone of them with a special place in my heart. I cried at the end bc its a great book!
Rules for Loving is the eigth book in the Davey's Rules series by Susan Hawke. This is a collection of shorts with the characters of the previous books in the series. We get wonderful snapshots into what they have been up to, sweet and sexy and of course hilarious glimpses into the shenanigans and special moments. I absolutely loved seeing these Daddies and their Boys.
So many happy smiles and even a few tears as I was reading this. I truly love Dave and Sammy!! This was the most perfect ending to the series. I absolutely adore little Mickey and her rhyming and Preston’s adventure with the burros. Hearing how Landon and Mikey got together was super sweet. Thank you SH for this FABULOUS ending!!!
Great add to the series. Not only is this a great way to wrap up this series and give us some great scenes with everyone but it is the perfect voice to put all those emotions in place. Fantastic tone and mood set by Michael Dean. From start to finish this is worth the buy and a quick listen. Can't wait for the next.
