Run away to Sea Salt Bay, where the sand is warm and soft, the sea is a perfect blue, and a candy-coloured waffle house is about to change Sadie’s life…
For as long as she can remember, Sadie’s grandparents have run the waffle house on the pier at Sea Salt Bay. With its pretty painted chairs, sweet smells, and the warm advice of her beloved grandparents, the waffle house is like a second home.
But when Sadie’s grandfather dies, leaving her grandmother without an anchor, Sadie must make a difficult decision. She quits her job and moves back home, determined to keep things going. The trouble is, she knows nothing about running a business, and learning at a million miles an hour with a shop full of hungry people isn’t easy. When she nearly burns the waffle house down, she has to admit she needs to get some help.
Her ex-boyfriend Declan promises to be there for her but Sadie worries that getting too close is a mistake – especially as he has a new girlfriend now. And anyway she’s just met newcomer Luke, with his gorgeous suntan and mellow voice…
Sadie’s family have always loved Declan and they’re not too sure about Luke, leaving Sadie unsure which way to turn. A terrible accident at sea forces her to look into her heart, but what if it’s already too late to tell the right man that she loves him?
If you love stolen kisses under the pier, walking along spray-capped shores eating ice cream, and books by Lucy Diamond, Jill Mansell and Jenny Colgan, you will fall in love with this romantic, heart-breaking read.
Tilly Tennant was born in Dorset, the oldest of four children, but now lives in Staffordshire with a family of her own. After years of dismal and disastrous jobs, including paper plate stacking, shop girl, newspaper promotions and waitressing (she never could carry a bowl of soup without spilling a bit), she decided to indulge her passion for the written word by embarking on a degree in English and creative writing, graduating in 2009 with first class honours. She wrote her first novel in 2007 during her first summer break at university and has not stopped writing since. She also works as a freelance fiction editor, and considers herself very lucky that this enables her to read many wonderful books before the rest of the world gets them.
Tilly is represented by the wonderful, gorgeous Peta Nightingale at LAW.
The Waffle House on the Pier by Tilly Tennant is a contemporary romance. Also, as much as there is romance this one is a bit of a journey of self discovery for the main character, Sadie.
As a teen Sadie thought she knew what she wanted and that was to get out of Sea Salt Bay and become a teacher. However, now as Sadie is training in the classroom with real students she’s not so sure of her choice as she doesn’t seem to be cut out to teach.
When Sadie’s grandfather suddenly passes away she finds herself thinking of making Sea Salt Bay her permanent home to help her grandmother run the Waffle House her grandparents have owned for years. Soon though she finds herself torn wondering if that is a mistake as her grandmother isn’t as young as she once was and as the business is not hard enough to run Sadie also has to watch the man she thought was the one with someone new.
Sea Salt Bay was such a lovely little place that I couldn’t help but love with the charming atmosphere and likable characters. I also couldn’t help but feel for Sadie as she stars seeing issues with her grandmother having had a grandmother diagnosed with alzheimers myself. It was also nice to watch as Sadie grew not only in her love life but in her professional life as well.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
I’ve seen and heard lots of positive commentary on Tilly Tennant’s books and after reading the blurb for this, decided now was the time to check her out for myself.
The best waffles on the South Coast.”
Sadly The Waffle House on the Pier didn’t quite hit the heights I was hoping for. Publisher’s keep throwing the rom-com word around and whilst humour is personal and I generally have no problem whatsoever with books of this genre, when a story lacks the giggles and focusses on family dramatics with the romance almost secondary, in my world, that's not a rom-com.
Your family are coming back over. All of them, en masse like a huge army.”
That said, Tennant has a nice writing style, she certainly knows how to write an appealing hero and I did like Sadie, I just wish more page time had been given to her plight at the waffle house and in developing her relationship with Luke over her battles with her family, particularly her overbearing older brother. Perhaps it’s a case of this not quite being the right Tilly Tennant book for me but I’ll be checking others recommended to me to see if that’s the case.

I just finished "The waffle house on the pier" and now I only wanna eat waffles so badly! I think I can even smell them. Instead I'm eating an apple. Life's not fair.
Once again Tilly Tennant manages to create a picture perfect scenario full of warm and relatable characters. I loved Sadie's endeavor to save the family business even with her whole family's opposition. I thought they weren't as fair as they should with her sometimes as her love for her grandma shined through every decision she made. It was sad reading about April's struggle with dementia as I'm sure most of us have lived through something similar with someone in our own family and could see ourselves in Sadie's shoes.
I also loved the love triangle situation. Should you choose the one everyone says is your soulmate or the new guy everyone distrusts but you feel could be THE ONE? I rooted for one of them from the beginning and I couldn’t be happier when at the end Sadie chose him.
This was a perfect summer read and it will surely bring a smile to your face...and a craving of waffles!
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Sadie loves the little village she lives in, Sea Salt Bay, as it is by the sea and her close family all work on or but the water, but Sadie didn’t want to follow in their footsteps, she wanted to make something of herself and went to university to become a teacher.
With her placements in school being harder than she thought it would be, she starts to have second thoughts about her career but doesn’t want to quit, that is until her Grandfather suddenly dies, leaving her Grandmother to either run the Waffle House on the Pier they have run for decades alone or sell it.
Sadie decides to help out at the waffle house but she notices differences in her grandmother and she is worried. She also has to put up with her ex who she still loves wandering around town with his girlfriend, plus, there’s a new man in town who literally bumps into her! But what does Sadie truly want out of life and for her future?
The Waffle House on the Pier is a feel-good story featuring a fabulous cast of characters who all work well together and are perfectly realistic. I love the idea of a waffle house. I’ve only ever seen one at Center Parcs, but the food sounds so delicious and had my mouth watering.
For me, it felt like the plot took a little time to get going, but that isn’t to say it wasn’t enjoyable, just a little slow at first, a long build-up to the main storyline.
There were a lot of family dramas as well as drama with a couple of males to deal with for Sadie and a tough decision or two to be made. I’m not always a fan of love triangles but it worked in this instance.
The book was a quick and easy read that had me smiling throughout. Another fabulous novel from Tilly Tennant.
“The Waffle House on the Pier” was an interesting Women’s Fiction read. Initially I thought it would be more light-hearted than it turned out to be. I thought it was a rom-com beach read. It actually tackled some deep issues like a death in the family, and Alzheimer’s disease along with relationship issues. The author, Tilly Tennant, wrote with a deft hand. She folded in these issues without overwhelming the book.
Sadie and her family have lived in the fictional British seaside town of Sea Salt Bay for decades. Her grandparents have run a waffle house restaurant on the town’s pier for just as long. Sadie is the youngest of three adult siblings. She is not enjoying her final months in teacher’s training as much as she anticipated that she would. In fact, she hates it and is terrified of the time she has to spend in the classroom. Then her grandfather dies.
The family is gathered for a meal after his burial service. It is there that Sadie proposes that she help her Grandmother continue to run the waffle house. It helps her Grandmother, and gets her out of her teaching course. However, she doesn’t know much about running a restaurant. As she works more closely with her Grandmother, she comes to realize that her Grandfather had been covering up and compensating for her Grandmother’s slide into Alzheimer’s disease.
There is other drama on multiple fronts. Will she be able to avoid rekindling a romantic relationship with her first love, Declan? People seem to think that they should still be together even though Declan has moved on to another relationship. Then she’s hit on the head by a new love interest, Luke. How will that proceed? Will it proceed? Will her brother ever get over his anger at the way Sadie met Luke? Will Sadie be able to sort her feelings out about her love life, and/or her career? I will not answer the questions posed here. Never fear though, they are answered by the book’s conclusion.
I’d recommend this for readers who enjoy Women’s Fiction – especially if a small seaside town floats your boat. While it wasn’t the easy breezy romp I was expecting, I was happy to have had the chance to read the book. My expectations were not quite on track based on the book blurb, but that did not hinder my enjoyment of the book.
‘Thank-You’ to NetGalley; the publisher, Bookouture; and the author, Tilly Tennant for providing a free e-ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Another winner for Tilly Tennant. She writes with passion and you fall in love with her characters. Her books are my relief. Sadie’s grandpa passes away and the Waffle House is left untouched until Sadie opens up with her grandma but that shows problems with her grandma. In the end Sadie founds love and becomes full owner of the Waffle House! Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture and Tilly Tennant for a copy in exchange of an honest review
Lovely coastal setting, great sense of family and community. The Waffle House on the Pier tells the story of Sadie, a young woman who is uncertain about her chosen career.
When her grandfather died, and her family decided to close the waffle house he used to run together with her grandmother, Sadie stepped in and offered her help.
She was not expecting things to be easy, but the challenges thrown her way were way more complicated than she could have anticipated.
To make matters worse, she was having a hard time forgiving herself for having broken up with Declan all those years ago when she left for university.
She could still feel their intense connection, but Declan was about to move in with his beautiful girlfriend, Melissa.
And then there was Luke, a new resident of Sea Salt Bay, a lovely guy that could be just what Sadie needed, if only she could let the past go.
The Waffle House on The Pier is a story about dealing with family issues, standing your ground under pressure, and facing the consequences of your decisions.
The beginning dragged a little, but it picked up the pace after a few chapters.
Sadie's relationship with her grandmother was adorable, and both Declan and Luke were very decent men and definitively marriage material.
I loved the coastal setting and the sense of family and community.
An enjoyable summer read!
Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Family drama and romance with quaint English seaside town....everything you need for a cozy, summer read. The characters were real and like able. If you want a feel good easy romance story, this is a book you should pick up. Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read and review this book for my honest opinion.
I wanted to try and get this finished today to review on publication day, just made it!
I was fortunate to receive a copy of this book to read from NetGalley.
I absolutely loved this book. I was totally sucked into the family and the community. Luke is so sweet!
The author's writing is beautifully descriptive. I did feel there were a couple of large jumps in time but it's a straightforward read to keep track of. The cake and jam analogies were great!
I note the author has a large back catalogue so I need to check that out for some more pure escapism! x
I love this author’s books and this book instantly appealed to me with it’s bright colourful cover! My mind was straight away filled with images of small seaside towns and their piers and, of course, platefuls of waffles and pancakes piled high with various toppings! We are introduced to Sadie, a teacher in training. Her family have lived in the little seaside town of Salt Sea Bay all their lives and, apart from Sadie and her sister Lucy, all of her family work in the tourist industry – her parents run boat trips around the bay, her brother runs a diving school and her grandparents run the Waffle House on the pier. Their lives are devastated when her grandfather dies, and knowing that her grandmother can’t run the Waffle House on her own, Sadie gives up her teaching job to help run it.
I loved Sadie’s character! It felt that she didn’t really have much luck in life and you find yourself rooting for her from the very beginning! Even she would admit that she was a terrible teacher, but her business sense when helping out her grandmother was also sadly lacking! Thankfully she has good friends around her, and when we are introduced to Declan, her ex-boyfriend, you are kept wondering whether they would rekindle their relationship. I really liked Declan’s character and thought he would be ideal to show Sadie some love in her life…but that was all until we are introduced to newcomer, Luke! Luke, initially, really doesn’t make a good impression on her, or her family, but he does leave me with a dilemma as to who I would prefer Sadie to end up with!!
The story is such a lovely read that takes us through the trials and tribulations of a close-knit family who are obviously still struggling in the aftermath of their grandfather’s death. I loved her grandmother, April, and felt it was such a sad storyline as it became obvious that she was suffering from dementia. Whilst I’ve just painted a very sad view of this book, it really isn’t like that at all though! It was full of light-hearted, loving, funny and downright sexy moments! In between wiping away tears, I laughed out loud, especially at the stories of Sadie trying to teach her class, and blushed at the antics of Sadie and her man (and no, I’m not going to tell you which one it is!)
Of course, we couldn’t let a review pass by without mentioning the topic in the title – waffles!! I think a waffle house on a pier sounds absolutely divine and I’d definitely visit it if there is one in the next seaside town I visit! The descriptions of strawberries, chocolate and cream was just too much and it certainly made me want to reach into the pages and take a plateful! As with every other book by this author, I was totally caught up in the loveliness which oozed out of this book! The characters were all likeable and down-to-earth, the storyline holds you until the very last page and the location is just perfect! Would definitely recommend!!
Distracting enough for this trying time but I didn't really enjoy this. The story was too predictable and the characters didn't really click for me. Once again a romance where people fall into each others arms a little too fast for my taste.
My copy was provided by NetGalley for review, all opinions are my own.
Sea Salt Bay is an idyllic small town by the sea, full of nostalgia and a town where everyone knows everything about everyone. One of the gems of this particular town is the waffle house owned by Sadie's grandparents.
Sadie may have thought she would outgrow the small-town living and pursue other dreams, but she keeps feeling like a failure when things don't quite work out - her love life, her career- and then her grandfather passes away, leaving the family with some tough decisions.
Will Sadie be able to step in and rescue the waffle house with her declining in health grandmother, or will it all come crumbling down?
What I loved about this title was Sadie's strong ties to her family, and everything in the title revolves around how she's grown up and her bond with them. It was a great quick beach read, with a bit of family drama all mixed in and I was totally here for it! And, I'm dying to go have some amazing waffles!
The love triangle Sadie puts herself in - the one who might've gotten away, or the newcomer to Sea Salt Bay - kept me entertained throughout the book, and made Sadie as a character even more relatable!
Thank you to Netgalley & Bookouture publishing for an advance reader copy of this title in exchange for my honest reveiw!
When Sadies grandpa dies, her grandma April is left alone to grieve and run their waffle house on the pier.
Only soon it becomes apparent April is struggling with her health without knowing it while Sadie helps out to keep the waffle house going she sees her ex love Declan with his new girlfriend around while she gets to know and date Luke a newcomer to the area.
After Declan and his girlfriend split up April finds herself torn, should she stay with Luke or go back to Declan?
But most importantly can she keep the Waffle house going?
This was a fun new read and I loved the unique setting being a waffle house as I've never read about one before. The storyline about dementia is very relatable to many of us I feel and the old love new love storyline too Sadie was a great head strong character and I liked the fact she didn't give up on keeping the family's past business alive despite everyone going against the idea. A sweet summer treat of a book!
Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!
Sadie comes back to sea salt bay for her grandfathers funeral they own the waffle house on the pier. Grammy is unable to manage the waffle house on her own so Sadie gives up her teaching course to help run it. It all gets too much for grammy, the family set about selling up.
Does Sadie's dream of running the waffle house happen? Sadie has new man Luke but in the background is old flame Declan. Who does Sadie end up with?
A beautiful story which I was unable to put down and read in 2 sittings.
A perfect summer read that will not leave you disappointed.
Another beautiful book by Tilly Tennant! I love her books because they are always so different from one another, it's always a totally different storyline and I really love that! This book is as usual with Tilly Tennant, so well written and full of events, you never get bored! This book is about family, second chances and never judge a person too fast. And I loved the setting of story in a seaside town and the characters who are all so well built! Very good book! 4 stars out of 5 for me! I warmly recommend it!
The description of this book is really cute, it gives beach read vibes so I was really excited to receive this from @netgalley. The cover is also really adorable which was another reason I wanted to read it. Yet after the first 50 pages I couldn’t get into the book. I think it was the main character I just couldn’t connect with her, which made it really hard to want to read this book. But I did really like the location of the book other then that it really fell flat for me.
Just close your eyes, take a deep breath and imagine the warm gritty sand between your toes, the gentle lap of waves against the shoreline, the cries of seagulls and the warmth of the summer sun on your winter skin. Inhale familiar seaside smells of sun cream, fish and chips and candy floss and you will find yourself transported to the little seaside town of Sea Salt Bay, home to the Waffle House on the Pier. For me this is such a sparkly summer read, evoking my own childhood memories of trips to the seaside, that first glimpse of the sea and despite the fact I hate them (sorry!) the seagulls cries. These images conjure up happy memories and take me to a trouble free place in my mind where I can indulge myself in a world beyond reality where only good things happen. This sweet, if predictable novel allows you to do exactly that, lose yourself in the lives of Sadie and Gammy and family whilst they deal with the consequences of the death of their beloved grandfather. The Waffle House has been a firm fixture in their lives and that of Sea salt bay for a very long time so it’s heartbreaking to think they might finally have to shut up shop. Gammy, whilst full of high spirits and energy despite her advancing years cannot possibly manage to keep the Waffle House running single handedly. The death of her husband has hit her hard and with other members of the family busy running their own seaside businesses what is the fate for this well known and loved establishment?? The only member of the family who could possibly save the day is Sadie, the baby of the family and as such is treated like one, having had so many false starts in life and love that she isn’t really taken seriously. As a trainee teacher she is feeling trapped in a job that she has no real desire to do and is finding that keeping control of a classroom is maybe beyond her capabilities. Coupled with pining for ex boyfriend Declan, whom she believes was the one that got away, Sadie is floundering. Her sudden decision to quit yet another career and help Gammy keep the Waffle House open could be the best or worst decision she’s made to date. Plain sailing or more of a rollercoaster ride?? That’s for you to find out! With ups and downs, fun and laughter and a good dollop of romance thrown in I found this a lovey enjoyable read. I wanted to visit the Waffle House myself, indulging in one of their delicious calorie laden offerings, eavesdropping on the conversations between Sadie and Gammy, whose mental health is clearly in decline. Plus the arrival of potential new love interest, Luke could prove to be the cherry on top of the cake (or waffle)and banish Declan forever from Sadie’s thoughts. All the characters are likeable and they have a great sense of family and the importance of sticking together, helping each other out, none more so than Sadie. Her effervescence and kindness and love for her grandmother really shine through making this such a feel good read. The love triangle element keeps you guessing as to which direction Sadie’s life is going to take although it’s fair to say your grey matter won’t be taxed very much! With a predictable happy ending The Waffle House on the Pier is pure escapism and has all the necessary ingredients to bring a smile to your face. I can’t believe this is my first Tilly Tennant read and it definitely won’t be my last. My thanks as always to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read.
The Waffle House on the Pier by the lovely Tilly Tennant is an absolutely wonderful read which will bring you joy, happiness and some heart wrenching moments. In The Waffle House on the Pier we meet Sadie, a trainee teacher and I could so relate to how she was feeling with the pressures and issues in her teacher training. They were so true and I think many teachers have experienced these problems during our time in training. Teaching is not for everyone and everything was so spot on with regards to why Sadie did not like teaching.
Sadie feels that her life is in turmoil, she is not enjoying her chosen career path, her boyfriend Dec she was with before she left for university has moved on and her grandfather has very sadly passed away. When Sadie returns home to Sea Salt Bay she realises how much she has missed her family and her home and she decides that her future lies in The Waffle House that her Grandmother ran with her Grandfather. Sadie knows it is too much for her Grandmother (we sadly later learn April has dementia) and with the help of her family she takes on The Waffle House. Sadie's family is such a close tight knit unit and they are always there for each other and to help each other out.
The Waffle House also explores Sadie's relationships with her ex-boyfriend, and her new boyfriend, Luke, who she meets in the Bay. Lots of twists and turns as Sadie does not know how she feels and what she wants. However, Luke turns her life upside down (in a good way!), makes her so happy and gives her the future she wants and deserves. Sadie is now the new owner of The Waffle House, has a wonderful new boyfriend and an amazing bright future ahead.
The Waffle House on the Pier is a great read, taking us to a wonderful place where the sun shines on every page. Thank you for a lovely lovely read. A book full of laughter, love and cheer - a perfect book to read to make you smile and transport you to all the delights of the seaside! Now I want to go to Sea Salt Bay and visit The Waffle House and eat waffles and ice creams on the Pier!
This review is based on a NetGalley ARC provided in exchange for an honest, unbiased opinion.
How I loved this story, however it didn't make me crave waffles which confused me slightly. In fact there really isn't too much talk about waffles itself, more about family and just what to do with the waffle house now that Sadie's grandpa has unfortunately died.
As it is clear her Gammy, April is struggling, but no one initially is quite sure whether its grief or something more, that is leading to April's current behaviour.
All of the family that live in Sea Salt Bay, which oddly is a location name that had me thinking of salted caramel every time I read it, have their own jobs and none are really sure what to do with the waffle house.
But Sadie who is rather impulsive decides she wants to quit her teacher training, which based on having seen her try to control a classroom, I'm inclined to agree she may not be in the right line of work, and to help April re-open and run the waffle house without thinking it through.
And it soon becomes apparent, just how impulsive Sadie is, and while she is dealing with various family dilemmas, I'm also enjoying trying to work out who the main romantic interest for the book is, and just who she may end up with.
For there are two front runners, and I felt like Sadie wasn't really sure of her own heart for most of the book, and because I quite liked both men, I was unsure which way to will her on too!
I really did love the seaside setting of Sea Salt Bay, and all of Sadie's family members. It was just a really enjoyable calming read that was just what I needed at the point I sat down and read it.
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via Netgalley and for letting me take part in this tour. I have been reading Tilly's books for years now and they always bring me joy!
At first, I wasn't sure if I liked Sadie. She seemed like she was living in a bit of a fantasy world. She had no direction with her career and was still hankering after her ex. her ex who was now happy with someone else. But as the book progressed and Saide grew on me. Saide has some trying times in this book and I really wanted to just give her a hug and a shoulder to cry on.
This book has all the hallmarks I've come to know and love with Tilly's writing. It was romantic, funny and with just the right amount of realism. Tilly writes not only a love story but a story of family and friendship.
This book is set in Sea Salt Bay, in Dorset. I absolutely loved the location. It's the perfect little seaside town. I also loved the little mention to another of Tilly's books Hattie's Home for Broken Hearts. Little things like this make me smile.
I feel like this story is unfinished. I'd love a sequel or maybe a book with Sadie's friends as the main characters.
I read this book ages ago so this might not be very detailed. This was a perfectly sweet, perfectly bland contemporary romance, set in a gorgeous location. Similar to Greece Actually, I liked the setting of Sea Salt Bay more than anything else in this book. I picked this up anticipating a story about running a cute Waffle House on the seaside but what I got was more of a family drama-cum-romance story featuring a useless protagonist who is indecisive about every single goddamned thing in her life, which includes career choices and obviously men.
The blurb gives enough detail about the book itself so I won't go into that right now (also because I don't remember much anyway). I did not really love this book as such but if you want a simple sweet story without much substance to it, this can work really well. Mostly everything is pretty and nice here, except for Sadie herself, who I found rather annoying, but overall a simple okay read.
The waffle House on the pier is not an easy light read, I thought it was going to be more on the Rom-com side but I got a pleasant surprise.
The waffle House has angst and many situations that will keep you wanting to know more about the story and the characters.
Sadie is tired of her job at least the last part of her teachings is feeling like a big burden, she feels terrified, she is no longer enchanted with her Job now she is eager to finally move on. but tragic and unexpected things happened in her life that she will have to reevaluate where is she headed and what does she want.
so many things happened around Sadie, an ex that has finally move on but still showing up all around her life, a new love that may change her forever. I don't want to give too much away, but get ready for more drama.
this is a good read, entertainable, with a good story and characters, it is a book that will keep you hooked and will make you want to turn the pages even faster to know what will happen next.
a pleasant book with the right amount of angst to make it even more enjoyable.
**Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this in return for an honest review.**
I really enjoyed the family aspect of this novel. I thought Sadie's relationship with her brother was very believable and enjoyed their banter.
Sadie's relationship with her grandmother was adorable and I really connected with that part of the book. But with that being said, I did not fully believe the romantic connections that Sadie had with Delcan or Luke. I wanted more from that standpoint in the novel.
The romantic relationship that Sadie and Luke had seemed forced and I did not feel the chemistry between the two. I also felt that Sadie's character was very flat and underdeveloped.
My favorite part of this novel, though, was the setting of Sea Salt Bay. It was very atmospheric and I could picture the sea side town in my head. I thought the author did an outstanding job at making the reader really feel the small town setting and almost the nostalgia of the town itself.
Would I recommend this book as a romance? No. Would I recommend this book as a domestic family fiction novel? Yes. If you like family-focused novels that talk about grief and loneliness in a "light-hearted" way, I think this would be perfect for you.
Sadie comes home to Sea Salt Bay to try and save their family waffle business on the pier. Her grandfather died and she wants to give her grandmother a sense of purpose to help her with her grief. She gives up her training as a teacher and throws herself into bringing the waffle house back to life. Her family are all busy with their own businesses in the bay and she soon discovers that she may have bitten off more than she can handle. Her grandmother shows signs of dementia which make running the business a lot more difficult than she expected. It is a lovely read, with people excited to see the waffle house reopen, making your mouth water. It has everything, family, sadness, hope and waffles! It gives you a real sense of a traditional holiday by the sea, with the pier being a focal point for meeting, eating and generally enjoying the sea air.
Thus us the first book I have read by this author. This is the perfect read for a lovely sunny day whether on the beach or at home. The story follows Sadie, a trainee teacher who chooses to give that up to help her grandmother run the family waffle business after her grandfather's death in a seaside village. She also deals with her past relationship & her new one, friendships & family ties. Thus boom is an easy read romance but it also has a lot more within it, which makes it a good enjoyable read. Thanks to netgalley & the publisher for allowing to read.
I fell in love with the cover of this book, but I really couldn't get into it. It was a very fun, feel good read and I loved to learn about Sadie and her family. Reading this book, I could see my own family and our relationship. I loved that we got to see them work out their problems and see them interact with one another. The setting was amazing and I could see the cute little waffle house on the pier the whole time. I loved Luke and would have loved to get a bit more of him throughout the book and to really get to know him. I enjoyed the book, but didn't really see the romance or waffle house as much as I would have liked. I will however be looking at more books by Tilly Tennant in the future. ⭐⭐⭐.5 Steam:🔥 Romance:💙💙💙 Disclaimer: I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review. 3.5 stars. Thank you NetGalley for this preview. I enjoyed this book and will read more by this author. The main characters were interesting and fun. The relationship dynamics between family members, exes, friends, and potential romances were described well. I felt like parts of the plot were rushed, especially toward the end, but overall it was an enjoyable read.
I received this ARC from the publisher and Netgalley for my honest review. I picked the book thinking it would be a sweet book. Unfortunately it wasn’t as sweet. There were dark elements in the book. Sadie had offered to help her grandma run the waffle business. Even though Sadie had no experience running a business. Then there was the uncomfortable love triangle that I didn’t care for. I wasn’t a fan of Sadie throughout the book. The ending had everything resolved but at that point I just didn’t care anymore.
