All writers hear the voices of their characters talking to them in their head, right? Clemency James is certain that she isn't crazy just because her boys, the main characters from her hit erotic novel Tempest, are constantly giving her guidance. Something she will need during the next month as she's off to London to work with acclaimed actress/director, Georgianna Sutton to bring her novel to the big screen. However, her world comes crashing down around her when her husband of eighteen years drops her off at the airport with the declaration that he wants a break while she's off in merry old England. Calling on her imaginary friends for advice, Clemency is startled to open her eyes and find that her dark magician has come to life before her.
Peter Bennett is no dark magician. He's a man who hasn't been laid since Tony Blair was Prime Minister. With the recent death of his wife, he has been freed from a loveless marriage and is determined to find someone to warm his bed. However, things have changed since he last played the field. Fate seems to keep throwing a certain red headed minx across his path only for him to accidentally assault, threaten and insult her in his attempts to woo.
Despite the misadventures that bring them together, Clemency and Peter eventually unite. They work together to both achieve her dream of seeing her characters come to life and to create a home for their daughters. When her divorce comes thru with an added confession from her ex-husband, Clemency and Peter find themselves faced with truly having to begin anew.

What a lovely read.

I am astounded be the characters in this book. I can see them in my minds eye. C. J. Roark has built a love story that I wasn't expecting. It's a grand thing to read this. It's the love story of a lifetime.

Charming characters & engaging plot (plus steamy sex) is a perfect combination!

I burned my way through this book and my only regret is now I can't read it for the first time again. I'll admit, I was hesitant going in - the romance genre pulls up some cringey images, such as no real plot and flat characters - but Clemency and Peter and the entire cast of this book are so wonderfully thought-out and fleshed-out and genuinely the last chapter before the epilogue made me tear up.

It was such a lovely journey getting to watch Peter and Clemency bloom as characters and watch them build relationships and rediscover themselves and their passions for life (and each other) throughout the course of this novel. Plus their well-written steamy sex was a blast and a blessing to read.

Excellent first outing

The characters were strong and well developed. The story was engaging and hard to put down. I can't wait for a sequel to find out about Clemency's growing family and career.
