Linda Lael Miller ignites the combustible passion between attorney Clare Westbrook and homicide detective Tony Sonterra in this page-turning conclusion to her New York Times bestselling trilogy.
A senseless murder. A sizzling adventure.
Carrying her lover Tony Sonterra's child, Clare Westbrook has finally buried her commitment phobia and said "yes" to Tony's marriage proposal. So why is fear running through her veins and haunting her dreams? Sonterra is fired up to leave Phoenix for small-town Arizona, to target a lethal desert crime ring. Clare's willing to stand by her man, but he won't be the only one flirting with danger on the job: as a special investigator for the D.A.'s office, Clare is plunged into a race to find a missing child whose mother was murdered. And on a case this hot, the promise of Clare's bright future could vanish in the blink of an eye....
The daughter of a town marshal, Linda Lael Miller is a #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of more than 100 historical and contemporary novels, most of which reflect her love of the West. Raised in Northport, Washington, Linda pursued her wanderlust, living in London and Arizona and traveling the world before returning to the state of her birth to settle down on a spacious property outside Spokane. Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured her share of rejection before she sold Fletcher’s Woman in 1983 to Pocket Books. Since then, Linda has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, mysteries and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Long a passionate Civil War buff, Linda has studied the era avidly for almost thirty years. She has read literally hundreds of books on the subject, explored numerous battlegrounds and made many visits to her favorite, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she has witnessed re-enactments of the legendary clash between North and South. Linda explores that turbulent time in The Yankee Widow, a May 7, 2019 MIRA Books hardcover, also available in digital and audiobook formats. Dedicated to helping others, “The First Lady of the West” personally financed fifteen years of her Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women, which she awarded to women 25 years and older who were seeking to improve their lot in life through education. She anticipates that her next charitable endeavors will benefit four-legged critters. I loved this book. I am so sad that the trilogy is over. There was so much happening and bonding, growing in this final book that you want more. The characters grow on you and you can't help liking them so much. I was shocked about Loretta and Kip. Did not see that coming. Heartbroken for Eddie but so glad that things were getting better for him. Clare and Tony, so much more trust in each other and communication improved so much. They make a great team and couple. Clare's past was her worst enemy and she didn't even know it. The kicker at the end was unexpected but made sense regarding her "apparitions". I am going to miss these characters a great deal.
An entertaining romantic supsense that will appeal to fans of Linda Howard & the like. This would appear to be the third in a series featuring Clare Westbrook & Tony Sonterra although if you haven't read the previous books - like me! - it doesn't matter. Though for me I do like the banter & build up of the will-they-won't-they or perhaps more correctly when-will-they scenarios which are missing in this book as Clare & Sonterra are already an established couple. I'll be more than happy to read the two previous books should I come across them.
"Why do we try?...Why do any of us even try to go on?"
"Because we might be able to make it better" (253).
I have not read the other Look trilogy books, however, this book can stand alone. A lawyer and a police officer couple move to a small town full of BIG problems!
Tony Sonterra has taken a job as part of a task force working out of Dry Creek to stop the "coyotes" who killed a young friend of his. While Tony is working as the chief of police, Clare is offered a job with the county prosecutor's office as an investigator. After their move to Dry Creek, Clare is summoned to Loretta's where she discovers that Kip has been cheating and is in trouble with the law, leaving Loretta grieving and struggling to figure out the rest of her life. Of course, as has happened in the past, an attempt is made on Clare's life, but now she has more to protect since she is pregnant with Tony's child.
One Last Look is a good ending to the Look trilogy. There are several mystery story lines involving many suspects and clues, and while it is a little tough to keep them all straight, it does add layers to an already engrossing book. The romance between Tony and Clare takes a back seat to the drama and action, but there is still a satisfying conclusion to their love story. Character development is a part of the story, but it is clearly driven by the plot. In addition, magical realism has had some part in all three books, but it is more prevalent in this book and does add to the story as a whole. Overall, One Last Look convincingly completes the Look trilogy.
Over the past few years I've must've overlooked reading this book. But I wish I hadn't. With no current books at hand, I came across this one and am glad I did.
Normally when I write a book review, I mention something related to the story content. In this mystery, there's no need to do any of that. This book is so exceptionally well written that there's no wonder it became a New York Times bestseller. I was glued to the heart-pounding suspense and unable to set it aside. This is one extremely talented writer which I haven't come across in quite a while. Overall sizzling grammar speak well of the author.
This author can really tell quite a story. The pacing, action, romance and twists and turns are brilliant. However, the Loretta and Kip storyline I found quite annoying. Loretta deserves better. I was really disappointed this author fell back on the premise of I still love him. When trust is lost the relationship is over. Women who stay in these relationships are doing so for security, money, status or weakness. I hope Loretta gets her own story some day. She deserves to rise above the ashes and get what she deserves.
What a surprise! I pick this book to read thinking it was a romance story, it is a mystery story. I enjoyed the relationship of Clare Westbrook and her boyfriend (soon to be husband) Tony Sonterra. He is a by the book, a honest cop, and now as the undercover Sheriff of a small town in Arizona. Clare will stand by her man, but she puts herself in danger as a special investigator for the D. A. office. It was a decent story. Glad I decided to read it.
Tony is a cop, who goes undercover has sheriff of a town to sort out the coyote problem/murders, Clare is his pregnant, fiancé, pro bono attorney with a knack for finding herself in trouble, not to mention the focus of repeated murder attempts. While it was awful convenient that they had substantial inheritances to make expenses a non issue the rest was very engaging.

Clare and Sonterra are in small-town hell. Sonterra is the new police chief and he is immediately thrown into all sorts of trouble. Clare immediately meets a woman who is instant hate although she doesn't know why. All sorts of trouble follow Clare again but she prevails with Sonterra.

This series is so very readable. It has humor, romance, believable dialogue, lots of suspense. The main characters are very likable. I wish the author would write more books in this series.
This book is another book worth reading. I wish the author gave the secondary characters, i.e. Loretta, more closure, after all the secondary characters played a significant part in the story line. Other than that very good book.
Good summer fare pool reading, but the main character drives me crazy. She is unbearably pigheaded and in some way, miraculously, the stubbornness works out.
3.5 stars Last book in the Look trilogy. Unbelievable situations but entertaining. Loved all the protagonists, except for the bad guys, of course. Very satisfying happy ending.
Not a bad read but it lacked the charm of the second book (I didn't read the first). I missed Shanda and I didn't really care for the change in her career, I missed Clare being a champion for the underdog, though she still kind of was.
"Clare Westbrook is a survivor who built her law practice from sheer determination -- and an unexpected inheritance. Now Clare, carrying her lover Tony Sonterra's child, has taken the biggest risk of all: saying "yes" to his marriage proposal and finally burying her lifelong commitment phobia. So why is fear running through her veins and haunting her dreams? Sonterra is fired up to leave Phoenix for small-town Arizona, to replace the town's missing police chief and target a lethal desert crime ring. Clare's willing to stand by her man, but her fiancé won't be the only one flirting with danger on the job: as a special investigator for the D.A.'s office, Clare is plunged into a race to find a missing child whose mother was murdered -- a hot case that puts Clare's safety, and that of her unborn child, on the edge. For in a place where secrets have nowhere to hide, the promise of Clare's bright future could vanish in the blink of an eye..." (From Amazon)
I read this series almost back to back and love it. I enjoyed the suspense of each story and the romance between Clare and Tony. In this book we get to see how it all comes together for the couple and it does not disappoint.
Very interesting trilogy. I had not read anything by Linda Lael Miller in years (maybe a decade or more) but picked up this book at the library since I recognized the author. Was not what I was expecting at all but liked it – last time I read Miller it was all about the romance. Found it hard to read at first but then enjoyable that Miller wrote the books in the first person but past tense. The story lines was a bit farfetched in that I am sure all these events could never happen to one person in their whole lifetime, but I enjoyed the relationship between Clare and her boyfriend, Tony. I like that they both were very strong and independent but could still find middle ground, especially towards the end when it was not just in the bedroom. I did however find that the “mystery” part of the book was pretty predictable in some of the books, especially #2. But enjoyed the whole trilogy – thankfully I read them after they were all written so I did not have to wait to read them all. Will definitely be picking up more of Miller’s more recent book especially as they fall into the romantic suspense themes.
This is the third book in the Look trilogy. Clare finally gets over her commitment issues and marries Sonterra. She's also pregnant with their child. You'd think she could stay out of trouble now. lol Sonterra takes over as chief of police in a small town in Arizona and Clare goes with him. In no time at all she finds herself a job at a special investigator and she finds herself knee deep in a missing persons case that starts looking like murder. I wasn't sure how this book would play out with Clare being pregnant. By the end of the book she's at about the halfway point in her pregnancy too. There is also a surprise at the end regarding that. I wasn't sure how i liked this series all the way thru but something made me stick with it. There was more good going on with it than bad i guess. Clare is quite pigheaded still and Sonterra finally i think gets her to let go of her independence a bit by the end. Good read.
