DEAD EVEN is the sixth and final book in this series, but it stands alone as I am reading them out of order.

Maya is a powerful business woman--a dragon lady--and at first I didn't like her. I worked for people like her and honestly they terrify me. You never know when they'll snap. But Maya softened up a lot by the end of the book and became relatable.

Hunter has been majorly hurt and is afraid off love. Still, the strong, powerful Maya attracts him. An FBI agent, he's strong, too.

With the current pandemic and the conspiracy theories, this book is timely and somewhat scary. All the technical chemistry stuff was a bit overwhelming, but it refreshed my memory of some of the details I'd forgotten.

For more conservative readers there are a few soft swear words.

If you like romantic suspense, you will want to grab a copy of DEAD EVEN.

I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.

'He didn't have the faith he needed anymore to believe he deserved a family.'

I love Susan Sleeman's books and she is my go-to for suspense. Her books are so detailed with great details of law enforcement and crime solving. It fascinates me to no end. This book gives us the last person's story in her Truth Seekers series, Maya Glass. Maya reconnects with an ex flame, Hunter, and they discover they still hold feelings for each other, but Hunter is dealing with a great deal of fear. But now they must put aside all that and work together to try to stop a deadly toxin.

Sleeman brings us great suspense as always and the fast run to the finish was breathtaking! I am never disappointed in her good books. Highly recommended.

*My thanks to the author for a copy of this book. The opinion in this review is entirely my own.

Dead Even is the very satisfying conclusion to the Truth Seekers series and nicely sets up the next series. You will not be disappointed when you pick up a Sleeman novel--guaranteed!

Dead Even is the final book of the Truth Seeker series, and it is such an impressive finale! We finally get to see Maya and Hunter’s resolution plus a very action packed, suspenseful story. Dead Even starts with Maya going to her friend’s lab where she finds his assistant dead. She also learns that she has been exposed to a deadly toxin, so she calls the first person she thinks of who happens to be Hunter Lane. Hunter is a former love of Maya’s, and they will have to work together to find Maya’s friend and defeat the killer.
I loved this book so much! I had some issues with Dead Center, so while I was super excited for Dead Even, I was a bit apprehensive. But, once I started the book, I was immediately hooked and it just kept getting better and better. Maya and Hunter had a lot of different issues, but it was so sweet to watch them learn how to trust God and each other. Even though they weren’t sure how to work out a relationship, they really loved each other. I loved seeing them work out their issues, and even though there were a lot of frustrating moments, it was still adorable.
The suspense was also amazing, and I had no idea what was going to happen next. I don’t want to spoil anything, but let’s just say that I thought I knew who the villain was, but I did not. I also liked how Ms. Sleeman balanced all the different characters and revelations. It always made sense, and in the end, the different elements were pieced together beautifully.
She also brilliantly set up the next series, Nighthawk Security. All of the Bryd brothers come into this book, and because I have mentioned it in all my reviews, I won’t say how excited I am for the Nighthawk series. I cannot wait to read more of Ms. Sleeman’s amazing books. And I would definitely recommend this clean, romantic, and suspenseful book to adult and young adult readers alike.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

I'm so sad this series has ended but what a way to wrap it up! Maya has a reclusive friend who lives on a small island in a river in Oregon. He's a genius who works with toxins,, but safely! He frantically calls Maya and when Maya gets to the island, she finds a dead body and she's exposed to a deadly toxin herself! However, her friend is nowhere to be found. She can only think of calling her former boyfriend, Hunter, for help because he's an FBI agent who has connections. It's been 6 yrs. since they were together and the last thing she wants is to see him again but she has to put that aside. Hunter can't believe Maya is calling him! He's never gotten over him but he'll do anything to save her AND find her friend plus find the deadly toxin. This story had so many twists and turns, it'll keep you guessing the whole book. One of the main reasons I really enjoyed this story was because all the characters from the previous books show up so it was a fantastic reunion! You don't have to read the other books to know who they are though. It's a great book, full of intrigue and friendship and twists and, of course, romance!

The final book in Susan Sleeman’s Truth Seekers series is all about the founder of the Veritas Center. Maya Glass is uber focused and driven, yet there’s a softer side to her that few see.

When Maya’s friend goes missing along with a substance that could be used as a bioweapon, her instinct is to call the one man who’s broken her heart.

Dead Even contains Sleeman’s unique brand of submerging readers into the middle of an investigation with a team of experts. We got a hint of something between Hunter Lane and Maya a couple of books back, and now, their entire history is unraveled.

Even better? This book is also a great lead-in to Sleeman’s upcoming Nighthawk Security series, and we’ll most likely get to catch up with the Veritas team in those books.

Dead Even is the sixth and final book in Susan Sleeman’s Truth Seeker series. Maya Glass is the founder and managing partner of the Veritas Center, a place that helps find the truth when it’s hardest to see. She’s watched each of her partners find the love of their lives. But the man who fit that bill for her? They broke up years ago. And while she’s suffered through working with him before, when she finds a dead body and suspects she’s been exposed to the deadly botulinum toxin, FBI Special Agent Hunter Lane is the only person she thinks to call.

Hunter Lane still loves Dr. Maya Glass, the toxicology/controlled substances expert at the Veritas Center. Her potential exposure to a toxin and the dead body, are matters for the CDC and local law enforcement. Not an FBI agent in the cyber crimes division. But hearing Maya’s plea for help, he immediately gets himself assigned the case.

They quickly discover that the toxin and the dead body are only the beginning. Words like terrorist are becoming real possibilities. And they can’t stop a potential attack if they can’t find the one person who can turn the botulinum into an air-born bio-weapon.

Enter ICE agent Clay Byrd. Brother to one of the partners at the Veritas Center. He and his brothers have made appearances in a couple other Truth Seeker books and have staring rolls in the next series: NightHawk Security. Getting a sneak peak into the interactions of the Byrd Brothers was my favorite part of Dead Even and now I especially can’t wait for their series to release!

Overall, I’m sad to say Dead Even wasn’t my favorite of the Truth Seeker series, but not because it was a bad book at all! I loved Hunter and the plot kept me guessing. My trouble came with Maya. I just couldn’t connect with her. She was a character I never quite connected with throughout the whole series, which is why I think my reaction is an anomaly. You might enjoy reading about Maya even if she was’t my favorite.

And that’s okay! We don’t always connect with every person we meet and, as I said, I love Susan Sleeman’s writing, which is great because she has several new books releasing soon. First is Minutes to Die in August, then in November comes the first NightHawk Security book, featuring the eldest Byrd Brother. In the meantime, I highly recommend catching up on any of the Cold Harbor and Truth Seeker books you’ve missed. Dead Even was a great cap to a fantastic series!

DEADLY TOXIN!

DEAD EVEN (Truth Seekers Book 6) by Susan Sleeman is another stay up all night and read cover to cover book! This book concludes the Truth Seekers Series and I am sad to see it end! However, Sleeman does give readers a hint of what the future holds. One of her greatest strengths as a writer is the way she seamlessly crosses her book characters from one series to the next.

Maya Glass is the Veritas Center’s Center’s toxicology/controlled substances expert. She has a very eccentric friend who leaves her an unusual phone message. She cannot get him to return her calls so she travels to his private island to check on him. Private Island sounds exotic, right? Not this one! It is creepy! Maya is not afraid because she knows her friend just likes to keep things sketchy to keep people out. Maya finds her brilliant scientist friend missing, his assistant dead and herself exposed to the deadly botulism toxin, She must she help as soon as possible. The list of people who can help her is SHORT! After all, she is on a private island and exposed to a deadly poison that is highly contagious! The person she calls is her former love, FBI Agent Hunter Lane.

The question is will Hunter allow her to work the case with him or keep her away? Her ACE is she can offer the services of the Veritas Center which rival that of Quantico plus it is on site. The other conundrum they face is are they still attracted to each other? Or, is this all going to be strictly professional? The first time their eyes meet after not seeing each other for several years, that answer becomes known. What are they going to do about that attraction is a totally different story. He is the Poster Boy for the FBI. She is a Founding Member of the Veritas Center. Trying to figure out their relationship while attempting to find the brilliant scientist and stop the mass spread of the deadly botulism toxin makes for exciting reading! It is certainly interesting to be reading it in the middle of a Global Pandemic!

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by the author. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.

My review today is on the Christian Suspense Dead Even. This is book six in the series Truth Seekers.

I loved this book. I really enjoy all of Susan's books. This whole series is I think her best work. I don't think I could tell you which one I liked the most, they were awesome. This story is well written, well researched, and full of adventure. I know you are going to love it.

Veritas Center founder Maya Glass is called to an island to meet with a close friend. Fletch is a scientist and is also a bit of a hermit, living on his own small island. He asks her for help but when she arrives she finds Fletch missing, his assistant dead, and a Botulium toxin set lose. Had Fletch found a way to make the toxin airborne? Is she exposed to the deadly toxin? She calls her ex boyfriend for help. They must find Fletch before more people die.

Special Agent Hunter Lane is shocked to hear from Maya. She calls and tells him she needs him now. She tells him she might be exposed to the deadly toxin. She asks him to get a team out to the island right away. They had broken up six months ago. He lived with the fear of loss. He had lost every one he cared about. He broke off their relationship because he couldn't bear to lose her too. He drops everything and heads to the island. Can he let go of his fear and protect her?

A horrifying journey to find Fletch, find the toxin, and find the madmen that are trying to destroy the world. God has a plan for these two, a plan to prosper them and give them a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. In this time of pandemic when fear is running amuck, God wants you to give Him your heart so He can rescue you from this mess. His plan is for good and not for evil but you must give Him the right to interfere in your life.

What a fitting end to an enjoyable series! I believe Maya has made brief appearances in each of the books, but we really get to know her in this one. Hunter also has been in the picture recently. I enjoyed their roles and how they worked together even though their past history failed to end well. The action, suspense, and a touch of intrigue got me from the start and I had difficulty putting the book down. With the possibility that someone had toxin ready to be released at any time, the suspense tended to keep building. The tension between Maya and Hunter continued to build also as neither of them wanted a repeat of their previous debacle. Everyone at the Veritas Center was ready to work around the clock if necessary to find Maya’s missing friend and discover what had become of the toxin with which he had been working, fearing they may hear at any moment of its release where it could do major deadly damage. I usually find a favorite character in the books I read. Through this series, Pete, the night security guard at Veritas Center, has been a favorite. Just from the brief encounters everyone else has with him, he seems to be the kind of guy you could sit down with and find a wealth of knowledge regarding law enforcement, as well as lots of interesting stories. If you have not read this series, start with the first one and read them in order. You will find time rapidly passing as you enjoy some exciting reading. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

We are back with the Veritas Center group and this time the story belongs to the founder, Maya Glass.
When a friend calls her needing help, she drops everything and goes to the island he owns and has a lab. Little did she know that that move would put her life in danger. Not only has he disappeared, but a toxin has been spread that could kill not only her but also millions of people . When she finds herself in danger and possibly die, she calls FBI special agent Hunter Lane. A man who was the love of her life and who left her 6 years ago.
Hunter has never forgotten Maya and will do anything to help her, thus starting the race against time to be sure Maya is not infected and that someone with ulterior motives doesn’t use the toxin to destroy part of mankind.
This fast paced, clean , Christian suspense romance will keep you on the edge of your seats.
You will get a chance to spend time with characters from previous stories .
As we say goodbye to the Veritas men and women and their significant others, the reader is left hoping that Sierra’s brothers, and the newly formed Nighthawk Security , will be the new series created by this talented author.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

"Maya. It's Fletch. You won't believe what they're planning to do. I don't even believe it, and I need someone to confirm. Someone who knows how to keep their mouth shut and has top-notch scientific skills. That's you. Get here as quickly as you can."

Following her friend's frantic cryptic message, toxicology and controlled substances expert Maya Glass arrives at her friend's private lab. Apparently she's too late; Fletcher is nowhere to be found and his assistant is dead. And now Maya is almost certain that she has been exposed to a deadly toxin. Who can she call to help her? . . . . the man who managed to break her heart, FBI Agent Hunter Lane.

This heart stopping second chance love story is surrounded by a myriad of questions, the foremost being, where is Dr. Fletcher Gilliam? Why was he working with such a dangerous substance? Had Fletcher made enemies and who were they? Or perhaps he had friends who simply seized upon a lucrative opportunity. Meanwhile; Maya and Hunter? . . . . "God is the only one who can work this out".

Someone is bound and determined to get "dead even".

Dead Even by Susan Sleeman
Truth Seekers Series Book Six
Maya Glass started Veritas Center six years ago. Thanks to a broken heart, she put all her time and energy into creating the best center ever. Thanks to a beautiful building her grandfather left her. Now, a successful business with six other partners. When a friend needs her help...she finds she needs help and fast.

FBI Special Agent Hunter Lane is surprised when Maya calls him for help. The problem is, he'll have to work closely with her to find her missing friend. Six years have passed since they'd dated...and yet, not much has changed.

Another mystery that has you guessing to the end. Such well written suspense-romance stories. The author is great at creating these stories where you can't figure out the villain and meanwhile, she had my heart involved looking for the friend. Would he be dead or alive? Great series.

Maya Glass, the Veritas Center’s toxicology and controlled substances expert, goes to a remote river island near Portland, Oregon, to check on her reclusive scientist friend. It appears he’s been developing a biotoxin and is now missing. She hopes he’s still alive and not in the hands of a terrorist. Joining forces with FBI Agent Hunter Lane, her former beau, the two race to determine just what’s been going on and who is involved. The tension ramps up and the danger mounts as the team uncovers more information. Can they stop the killers before they launch a full-fledged attack? All of the Veritas crime-solving crew get involved along with local law enforcement to solve this case. Thanks to the author for another great suspense read. I received a copy from the author. I can't tell you why, but I didn't get through this book as quickly as I did the others in the series. I think that the struggle between Maya and Hunter just made me tired. I wanted to look Hunter in the eye and tell him to man up! And eventually he does!

Maya has her struggles at the beginning of the story but it isn't long before she forgives Hunter and let's him into her heart again. He loves her, he's just afraid of losing her.

The story is about terrorists trying to make the botulism toxin air born, and Maya's friend Fletch has done it - and unfortunately the terrorists know this and raid his laboratory island to get it. Maya has no idea if Fletch is alive or dead since they killed his assistant with the toxin. They find dead bodies along the way of their investigation and just can't make headway finding who is behind it all.

This is an action packed clean read.

Dead Even is the last book in the Truth Seekers series by Susan Sleeman. I love, love, love this series and I’m so excited, when the book was over, to find out I don’t have to say “goodbye” because these characters I have grown to love will be showing up in the next series which will be coming out soon.

I love how Susan brings her characters to life. They aren’t characters; they are friends as early as the first book. Not only does she develop her characters so well; but she has storylines that are all different, that keep the reader guessing, and have action, suspense, and mystery from the first page to the last.
I received a copy of this book from the author but was not under any obligation to write a review. All opinions are strictly mine.

Dead Even is another great installment in the Truth Seeker series. With a missing scientist, a toxin on the loose,
plenty of suspense, and an old flame rekindled, this one offers something for everyone. I’m sorry to see the series end, but can’t wait for the next.

I love the contrast between Hunter’s no nonsense FBI persona and his fear of commitment that stems from a tremendous amount of loss. He is a well rounded character that I wanted to get to know.

Maya is also a character of contrasts, not just brains and beauty, but a whole lot of heart. She loves her colleagues at the Veritas Center, is a loyal friend, and loves Hunter even after he ran from their earlier relationship.

Will they find their HEA? Grab the book and find out.

This is book six in the Truth Seekers series. Even though this is a stand alone novel all the books in this series are great and we reconnect with all the characters from the previous books in this series.

This book we focus on Maya Glass and Hunter Lane. We have met both in previous books, but we really get to know about all the chemistry between them. When Maya is in serious trouble she contacts the one person whom she knows will help her (and possibly the only one she really want to). Hunter and Maya have a lot of growing and healing to do all while trying to locate a friend of Mayas.

I always enjoy Susan Sleemans books, they are full of mystery, suspense and romance. This is probably the end of this series but hopefully its also the introduction to a new one.

Veritas

Finally, Maya's mysterious reason for her workaholic, solitary ways is revealed. Though I've wanted to hear Maya's story I'm always sad to be at the end of a series when I enjoy everything about it. Susan Sleeman is a very talented author, creating characters to admire and who make their world better. I'm so glad there will be continuity with the Nighthawk Security series just as there was with the Blackwell Tactical series. The Byrd family is way too good not to share their stories! Dead Even has all the angst, romance, mystery and suspense you want in a good book!

Heroes in Action

What a successful conclusion to her Truth Seekers series. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series, and getting to know the heroes with the Veritas Center. I was sorry the series had to come to an end,but it did so with a bang. The suspense builds with each clue the team unravels in their search for the missing scientist, Fletcher, or "Fletch" to his close friends. You will enjoy the plot twists and turns while building to an exciting conclusion. I highly recommend this book.

This book keeps your interest the entire time.

I like how Maya and her team at Veritas Securites work together to find out who kidnapped her scientist friend and how the toxins were made that killed the scientist's assistant. Maya is a force to be reckoned with and so his her team. Hunter has been called by Maya to help her find the scientist. They haven't seen each other in several.years since Hunter broke off their relationship. They find they still care for each other. They work side by side to get all the people involved in the kidnapping and bring them to justice

Hunter ❤️ Maya

It did take me a while to get into the plot line because I’m not up with the chemical world that this story is about. But once in, this went as fast as Hunter drives! Hunter has a lot to overcome in his life story but finally, finally has success. Maya is the champion here always pressing to find her friend. No Scripture quoted but the essence of God working in this is. “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.” John 15:13 Hold your breath and get started on an awesome journey!

A Toxic Mess

What a roller coaster ride! So many twists and turns, all so unexpected. Maya, the managing partner and Hunter are forced to work together on a case. They dated each other until Hunter had broken things off and hurt Maya terribly. Now a deadly token has been developed by Maya's friend Fletch, but he has disappeared. Maya finds Fletch's assistant dead in Fletch's lab, but no sign of anyone else. They need answers NOW before more people die! A real page turner until the end!!!

Dead Even, book 6 in The Truth Seekers series grabbed me from day one and pulled me in for a fast-paced, twisty, and complex mystery. I love books in a series, and this is an excellent one! I also love how characters in Sleeman’s various series often pop up in her other series, as I love reconnecting with characters I’ve met previously. However, each of these books can easily be read as a stand-alone. Suspense, intrigue, engaging characters, romance - this captivating mystery is well worth a read!

Dead Even is a fantastic addition to the Truth Seekers series. I love Susan Sleeman’s book and she didn’t disappoint with her newest book. This book has an edge of your seat plot that kept me glued to the words. It is always nice to revisit friends from previous books and meet new ones that you just know will show up in a future series. I highly recommend this book as I do any of this author’s books. I received an advance ebook from the author. This is my unbiased review.

Can You Believe It?

Susan Sleeman has finished another set of suspense and romance books. Every one of the Truth Seekers of the Veritas Center is has worked together to provide lab services, often pro bono, to bring justice when murder or terrorism is involved. This last one is trying to find a scientist who has been working on a deadly botulism toxin. Maya and Hunter plus others in the lab work together.
