5 twisted and tangled stars

Damn! I've fallen in love! With a twisted fae and a little nightmare!
This series just gets better and better with each book.

'Look too long at the tangled ones and you'll find yourself tangled too. Grow too angry at the injustices done to you, and you'll find yourself becoming unjust. Harden your heart too much against the cruelties done against you and you will soon be cruel. But let yourself bleed, let yourself ache, let yourself be maligned, let yourself shed hot tears of sorrow, and from your pain and sorrow will spring up fresh life.'

Allie Hunter is back home, after loosing ten years in the blink of an eye. The town she grew up in has changed. Alas, not for the better. Now Allie needs to battle conflicting loyalties, the censure of the townspeople, as well as her own broken family; all the while knowing she may be the only thing standing in the way of a brutal war with the fae. The clock is ticking and the monsters are coming. But who are the monsters after all?

'Twisted by anger, twisted by pain, twisted by death and twisted by hands. They were all twisted. And I was becoming twisted too.

In a human world where the cruelty rivals that of the fae, Allie needs to stand strong and craft a trap good enough to stop the coming fae army, while escaping the clutches of those whom she once had though of as friends. Is it a wonder then that she finds herself yearning for a dependable foe with whom she could properly and honestly bargain?

Scouvrel is serving his time under the Balance, back in the fae realm that Allie is desperately trying to reach. And yet, Allie keeps seeing glimpses of him and even seems to hear him whisper:
'Haunt me little Nightmare. Haunt me until I beg you to stop.'
Is it a wonder then, that she finds herself feeling 'incomplete without someone to haunt?'

And did I mention she has no idea what she is doing? No clue whatsoever about what can be done to prevent a war and keep the innocents safe from both twisted fae and twisted humans alike.
But, as she herself put it:
'I was Allie Hunter. A little problem like not having any idea what I was doing wasn't going to stop me.'

Just as fast paced as it's predecessors, this third installment in the Tangled Fae series is even more gripping and addictive. The setting is exquisitely twisted and amazingly beautiful. The story flows like a movie and the characters are so wonderfully fleshed out by now that you cannot help but adore them. And don't even let me get started with the messages between the lines. The little snippets I added here in my review are just a little taste of what is waiting for you within this story.

This is now officially my favorite Fae series ever!
It is dark, twisted and yet so very beautiful; violent and deadly but also full of gentleness and enchanting.

If you are also a fan of all things Faerie!
THIS IS A MUST READ!
And I bet you'll also love it just as much as I did!

Happy reading Bookdragons!

Oh my word. How do they keep getting better??!

😍 I love this book beyond reason. 😍

And what is up with those covers? They are the bomb. 💖

I don't know where to start .... and if I do start how I'll ever end. It takes me like ... a day to read these books. I know when I begin I'll never be able to put it down. And while I'm reading I have to scream every detail to my sister so I'm not laughing and swooning alone (laughter is much more enjoyable when you share it 😉).

The character relationships and arcs are absolutely breathtaking. The plot is shocking and action-packed. WHY DOES IT KEEP SHOCKING ME? You think I would have learned by now, BUT NO. *rolls eyes*

My heart has been captured within this gorgeous story. I don't know how I'll get it back . . . . AND I'M FLIPPING OUT BECAUSE THE NEXT ONE ISN'T WRITTEN YET. 😭😭😭

The dialogue was 😍😍 It's so quotable. *squeals*

Setting - The magical, fantastical land of the Fae ... so long as you pretend it's not a living hell. Allie's country (homeland) has it's perks too, but it's not as wild as the Fae.

Description - MY IMAGINATION IS DEFEATED. The details flowed right through the pages, stirring it into a movie in my mind. A beautiful, never ending line of pictures and words blending together like they were always ment to be. The colors and images were perfection.

Plot - Allie is still trying to end every Faerie story ever told .... it's currently not going well for her. The pacing was amazing, as was the foreshadowing. 😍 Everything connected with the last books and leads into the coming two. (Which I'm dying to get my hands on BTW) I love that literally EVERYTHING possible is in Allie's way and she still uses her emotions as fuel and rises.

Romance - Its aDoRaBlE 😍. Cute. Clean. I WAS SHRIEKING AT THE ONE ONE POINT BECAUSE SCOUVREL WAS ADORABLE ABOUT HER MODESTY. *Is dead* Its still Enemies to Lovers (a trope I'm a sucker for) and therefore it's perfection.

Content - Kissing between husband and wife. Mature topics. Some subtle "touching". Abuse. Beatings. Fantasy Violence. Some light feminist views. Fae magic. This book can be dark? I guess it's considered "dark fantasy" ... but it's not dark compared to some of the trash I've read. Lots of death. War. Battle. Etc. PG - 13

Characters - AFKHJSV I WILL NEVER STOP SHRIEKING ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE THEM. They have such good arcs and development. I appreciate how they're strong and weak. They aren't perfect, but they don't let that weigh them down. The constant betrayal and never knowing who to trust makes it hard for relationships to develop.

Overall - IM NOT OKAY BECAUSE OF THAT ENDING. ALSO THEY ARE ADORABLE. AND I MUST GET MY HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER, BUT I'M STARTING TO DESPAIR BECAUSE I SUSPECT WHAT HAS TO HAPPEN FOR THE FAE TO BECOME HUMAN AGAIN. (Don't mind my nonsense and fangirling .... *coughs embarrassedly* JK. Not embarrassed.) It was a fairly clean, fun adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment spent inside this world.

**FTC DISCLOSURE** I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are mine, and mine alone. I'd appreciate it if you didn't take my opinion personally. Thanks! :)

I love this series, and Sarah K.L. Wilson!

Not nearly enough time spent in the Faewald, but more than I thought there would be. Our girl Allie Hunter is finally showing some spine in this one, figuring out a plan against Hulanna and taking steps. The ending was clever, even if it involved a bit of the old deus ex machina. I adore Scouvrel - and I'm anxious to see how this whole thing will play out. Onto the next installment!

Will I read more books by this author if they have any? Yes! Amazing author :D

~Thoughts~
I honestly started sort of getting a little lost in this book. It's still good, sorry– amazing, but the rules of the Fae are a little confusing. Also, Scrouvel and Allie’s relationship is so strange. 😂

–Quotes–
The memory of a voice rang in my mind with every step.
“Haunt me, Little Nightmare. Haunt me until I beg you to stop.”

Now, the thought of stolen kisses reminded me only of Scouvrel and the way his kisses had seared onto my lips leaving them ruined for anyone else.

“Tangled is as tangled does, Little Hunter,” Scouvrel said from the reflection on the breastplate. I swallowed and tried not to look. I really was going insane! I was seeing him everywhere.

“Who are you?” the littlest one asked.
“I’m a Nightmare to your enemies,” I whispered back with a wink. “And a friend to you.”

The people of two worlds had only me to hope in to prevent a war and I felt woefully inadequate to do it. But I still had to try. Because that’s what it meant to be Hunter. It meant that if something threatened your village you had to hunt it. And right now my village was being threatened within and without by two separate armies.

I leapt through the tear before I could lose my chance, landing in the Faewald, my heart beating a thousand beats for every minute and my breath racing to catch up.

“I’m afraid not,” I said, not sorry at all despite his threats. “You see, I really am already married, and my husband is a vengeful man. He’d cut off his own ear before he’d let you have me.”

“I’ve never liked you or yours, but any enemy of my enemies is welcome to my hearth.”

This third instalment finds Allie trapped in the mortal world, trying to warn her village of the impending fae invasion. And unfortunately, she's bargained her only ally away to her enemies. Now Scouvrel, much as he may want to help her, is also contractually obliged to battle her.

Tropey in a way that's not always justified but always addictive, this series is like Tim Tams: they might not be the best chocolate treats in the world, especially compared to your sister's made-from-scratch mint cheesecake brownie, but can you stop eating them? No, you cannot. And besides: Tim Tams. Pass the packet. I hear these ones are salted caramel flavoured.

I cannot get enough of this series. I love Allie and Scouvrel so very, very much. There is so much I want to dig into on this, and I can't because I got it as an Advanced Reader Copy, and I don't want to spoil it.

The awesome: it's very quotable. There are a lot of great things to highlight in this book that would make it worthy of some deeper discussion.

And as always Allie's wit is absolutely delightful to me. She makes laugh, probably because she thinks very similarly to me!

We learn more about Scouvrel... some very interesting things, although it's still all really only hinted at. I need more of him. Oh my goodness, I need so much more of him. He's like Cardan, but with a proper sense of humor. Allie is not like Jude, she's way better.

The less awesome: it feels a little slower than the last book. That's not say there isn't plenty going on. Allie has a lot to navigate as she tries to process what she's been through and how her town has changed, and what her role is there now. She's confronted with more and more problems, and she comes to realize that she really has no idea what she's doing and she keeps focusing on the wrong things. I think it's probably just a me thing though. There were descriptions of things and places that I just didn't care about because I wanted to get to the next piece of action, if that makes sense. Also, it ends on a cliffhanger.

Now, I'm not opposed to cliffhangers at all! Don't get me wrong. What's bad about this one is that I thought this was going to be the last book, and I was so into the text that I didn't notice that I was 98% through it when I turned the page to 99% and it said "If you want more of Allie Hunters story, look for the next book." I literally shouted "NOOOO!" So the problem isn't the cliffhanger, it's that I wasn't prepared to wait for a next book, which then made me laugh really hard, because I'm a little twisted like that and kinda relish the torture of the wait.

If you love The Cruel Prince by Holley Black, I recommend this. If you liked the idea of The Cruel Prince, but couldn't get into it because, let be honest, it's a little dry and cerebral, I think you should give this a try.

This has the best parts of the Fae world, verbal sparring, cruelty, wit, and a fight for redemption. Allie is a spitfire who keeps going even when she wants to give up. I would hug her if she were real. She could definitely use a hug after this book. Scouvrel is mysterious, and it's hard to say exactly what his intentions really are, but he's funny and I like watching him squirm when Allie frustrates him... which is often.

This is my favorite Fae-centric series, it is the bar I will be holding all others to. To put that in perspective, The Cruel Prince was my previous standard to beat. Thank you Sarah K. L. Wilson for sharing this world and these characters with us. I love them all so much.

I can't wait until this has been out for a couple weeks so I can dig into all the underlying themes and messages in it, because there are some really good ones that I'm desperate to discuss, but can't without spoilers. So be looking for this to updated on my blog in a few weeks.

Dark, Intense and Utterly Thrilling!

"Twisted. That's what our ancestors had meant by those words. Twisted by anger, twisted by pain, twisted by death and twisted by hands. They were all twisted. And I was becoming twisted, too."

DAMN! This story just keeps getting better and better with more darkness, more twists, more suspense and it is extremely thrilling to read! From beginning to end Allie had me on the edge of my seat never knowing what was going to happen next to her or to everyone else. There are surprises and twists that you don't see coming, which keep you captivated and highly entertained right to the end. This story is one hell of a rollercoaster ride!

Book three is packed full with intense action, plot twists that will leave you shocked, an interesting relationship that you might not be sure about yet, backstabbing and betrayals that will break your heart for Allie, and an ending that will completely blow you away!

I love how Allie is growing stronger and stronger with each book. She is becoming one smart, witty, kickass heroine.

I am so looking forward to the next book in this amazing series. Such phenomenal writing and storytelling. Highly recommend!

GAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Probably one of the best things in the series is how the time works differently in both worlds. Allie had spent only a week in the Faewald and it ended up being nearly ten years in her world. TEN YEARS!!! So much had changed, and I love getting to see the similarities and differences to the small town that she had once lived in.

I was also presently surprised to see Heldra's character change. She's like the best person ever now.

And then that side plot about Eckelmeyer. Man. I know why he was added in, to show that humans sometimes acted like the Fae. But man, he was something. And the fact that Olen was working for him! I mean, Olen, what were you thinking? Also, guys, I can't believe that you didn't think that Allie would work for you guys without the threats. I mean, you both had common goals. But really, this was excellent to add to the plot.

And then Scourvel! Ahh, sometimes I love him, okay? He just helped Allie so much in this one. And how he helped her get the children out, that just made my day.

Content in Book:

1. Passionate kisses. An unsettling desire that the Fae have with humans, lust. Seductive.

2. Violence. (Hunting animals for food. Beating people up. Hand-to-hand combat. Sword combat. War. Trying to drown someone in wine. Having someone cut off your ear in payment for something, then using that dismembered ear to paint a picture with the blood. Killing people then dismembering their remains to remove them. Shooting people with a bow. Nailing people onto a tree. Going to drown someone in blood to make them Fae. Heads on poles. Etc.)

3. Kidnapping children.

4. Magic.

5. Tattoos that represent the magic.

6. People who went crazy after their torture.

Who I Would Recommend This Book Too:

Those who want a good book about evil Fae. Good versus evil theme. READ IT, IT'S MY FAVORITE!

This story was intense. I loved each and every secret revealed and the depth of the characters. The pace is fast and the end has a soft cliffhanger. I'm eager to read the next book.

Allie is Scouvrel's little nightmare, who he begs to keep on haunting him, however the thing that is haunting Allie is the fact that she had sold off Scouvrel to the Balance, and he was now enslaved and bound to do his will for as long as she had sold him off for and this fact would come and bite her in her backside. When Allie returned to Skundton she found that she had been missing for 10 years and that nothing was as she remembered. Time is different in the different planes, she found out that her role as hunter was no longer needed and that Olen, was now calling himself a knight and supposedly taking care of the protection of their town. However Allie knew that her sister Hulanna, now queen of the fae, was amassing an army who would soon descend on her family and town and declare war, also Allie realised that an evil had come to Skundton so the war would be waged on both fronts. She knew that she was the only one able to stop this war and that now she would have to do this alone. She also vowed to save all the human children stolen and trapped in the faewald if only she managed to cross over once again. Hulanna wanted her dead at all costs, Scouvrel, her husband could not help her, and the people she once knew had also turned against her so could she save everyone? This series is so full of tension and at times it gets quite dark but it is also extremely gripping and our heroine is so kick ass I find myself really cheering her on as she takes on the evil and tricky fae. I am so looking forward to reading book 4.

So far I'm really glad I stuck with this series.

I've grown to adore Alestra and I totally relate to her thoughts, feelings and decisions. She's strong and impetuous as any girl her age could be, but she cares in a way that not many do. It's her empathy that draws me in and the twisted adventure wrought with peril that keeps me reading.

Her husband always intrigues me and I keep hoping for the happily ever after I think he needs. Of all the Fae, he deserves to be untangled, and maybe woven back together with all the love and care that was torn from him as a child.

Hulanna looks to be beyond redemption but I see why her sister can't just end her. I understand what it's like to love someone who doesn't deserve your heart. It's her love of her town, her duty, her sociopathic sister, that makes Allie the perfect other half for Scouvrel, and my need for this series to end perfectly has me flipping pages in every second of spare time I can find!

I'm at the point where I would recommend this series to anyone who loves fae tales, (and I mean anyone because so far there's no sex) but if it doesn't end good, I'm gonna pitch a total fit about it. 🤣🤣🤣🤭

I'm in love with this series. I know others think it's a bit dark but I like it. In this book 3, the differences between the Fae and humans become even more blurred, all begins to tangle up and sometimes I don't get 100% what's going on.
Is even Allie becoming more sinister, crueller? At least Scrouvrel seems to be softening.
But the ending.... Oh my!
I can't wait to read the next book, I have a feeling it's going in the direction I was hoping but I'm sure Sarah has some surprises up her sleeves.

Favourite quote from Scrouvrel made me laugh:
“I will remember the back of that head and search for it when next I enter the mortal world."

I really loved this book. The series gets better with each book. Allie is trying to get back to the land of the fae. She needs to stop her sister from leading the fae into the mortal world and bring war to them. She may not be able to do it, as no-one will listen to her. She had to hope she could od it on her own.

From a cage of iron to the cage of mistrust, Allie has come back to the mortal realm and a town which is not as she left it two short seven-days ago – for here, ten years have passed, the town has grown, and Queen Anabetha now pays attention to this town in sending her Knights to defend it. Olen Chanter is one of these Knights, and many of the men – men who where Allie’s age when she left for the Faewald – stand beside him, with the Queen’s Knights to support them. But just because the Knights have come and Skundton has changed does not mean that they are ready for the news Allie brings of the Faewald’s imminent invasion, led by none other than her sister and Lady of Cups, Hulanna. With Scouvrel trapped in servitude back in the Faewald, Allie must use all her Hunter skills and every ounce of plotting she learned in the Faewald in order to prepare her village for what is to come and save as many as she can. But if no one will listen to her, how can she save them?
Allie is having to show more initiative and ability to plan ahead than ever before, and it is refreshing to see her take such an active, leading role in her own story. While her as a captive was incredibly engaging (I still adore the verbal sparring and near-constant bargaining between her and Scouvrel, and miss it in this book), it is nice to see what she learned from that experience, and also where she still lacks. After all, how much can one expect her to learn in only two weeks in the Faewald in a cage, when despite the Fae speaking only truths, they conveniently leave out the truths which matter the most and make the most difference? I found the balance of what she took away from the Faewald and what she kept of herself interesting, how despite the cruelty and violence and trickery she witnessed and was subject to, how she still shies away from it, and instead reaches towards her desire to trust, to care for others, and to forgive, even those who treat her the most poorly. Even though the people of Skundton do little to give her anything approaching a warm welcome, still she feels a loyalty to them as their Hunter, to protect them not only from the Fae, but from themselves if she must.
And there is much to do on that latter front: the Queen Anabetha has sent some of her Knights to Skundton to help protect the growing town, and soon Sir Eckelmeyer, Olen’s superior, comes into town as well. For you see, the Queen and her Knights do not take kindly to the Travelers, accusing them of magic and of being too close to the Fae, and are even less inclined to believe the warnings of a seventeen-year-old gone these last ten years in the Faewald. Sir Eckelmeyer himself takes a special interest in Allie, but with less than chivalrous intentions.
Now on to some specifics, under the spoiler, about certain themes or aspects brought up:
To wrap up, the story seems at the beginning to have a hard time deciding if it needs to take things quickly or slowly, given how Allie goes about trying to make and enact a plan to save the missing children and protect her village from the Fae invasion, but this sort of keeping off-balance works in its favor, as you’re never quite sure what is coming around the next bend in the spirit-line path, other than that a surprise is sure to be found at the end of each new path. And once Allie starts enacting her ever-evolving plan, and learning more tidbits of information which both help and hinder her, things just keep going faster and faster. You find yourself on the downward plunge of a steep roller coaster in the middle rather than at the beginning, leaving you unsure what is around the next corner except that you have to keep going and won’t be satisfied until you reach the end, no matter what it holds – corkscrews, loop-de-loops, spirals, twists, or anything else. I will also say that this book feels very much like a middle high point of a story, or the high action leading right into the big climax of a larger/longer story. It doesn’t quite stand on its own, with how reliant on both what came before and what is sure to come, but it also includes enough support and growth to be stable and encourage you to keep reading not only this installment, but be hungry for the next. I know I am.
Oh, and a quick word about the cover: While I love Allie being center stage all the time, with each new magic item she obtains/uses, and how cool she looks (less the allowance for impractical clothing given her story and time period), I wish the Fae around her were… well, either switched around each time, or at least a little more clear as to who is who, or who could/should be who. There are really only 3 Fae of the lot who I think we can pin down in a pinch (bottom right, Hulanna; bottom left, Scouvrel; and above him, Cavariel), the rest are just… generic Fae who are there to be there. There’s not one who could conceivably be The Balance, nor Vhalot or anyone else who we see regularly. They really just serve as to be a generic background to place Allie against, without any further meaning ascribed to it or them. This may go down to budget – cool covers of quality can get expensive, I’m sure – but I would have liked to see either more specific Fae clearly represented, or at least a shuffling of who’s where from one cover to the next.

I received a free eARC in exchange for an honest review. This has not affected the contents of my review or rating.

Favorite quotes:
Who was to say what was for someone’s “own good”? Maybe you had to let people make their own choices. Even if those choices were terrible. – Chapter 20, page 98/190

But it reminded me who I was. I was Allie Hunter. Make me small and I would kill rats. Make me large again and I’d take down the whole Faewald. I did not give up. I did not back down. I was not ready to give up this fight. – Chapter 30, page 149/190

Wow! Quite the ending! Allie is back in the human world. A lot has changed in the 10 years she has been gone. Not all for the good. And they don’t believe her warnings about the upcoming fae attack. But that won’t stop her from trying to save them. Really looking forward to book 4!

What a crazy life the fae live. To bargain for one's life and limb is the way it is in that world! A young girl, Allie was a last Hunter for her village but things have a way of changing. A place was always guarded to keep fae from getting into the village and stealing the children, but at times fae came through the portal. Allie went into the fae world to bring her sister and the children back home. While there a fae, Scouvrel, tricked her into marrying him. Adventures abound in this book and series. Good storytelling and good read.

Im writing this review based on the requested ARC copy from the author.

Sarah Wilson's Fae are so different from every other fae I've read to date, which adds to the excitement of this series.
This book follows on nicely from book 2, giving Allie Hunter an even broader story arc while continuing the fast paced action of the story as a whole.
Allie and her fae enemy Scovrial butt heads again as well as help each other, a complicated relationship if there was a ever any! Allies sister is still hell bent on taking over the mortal world and Allie feels like she's the only one in a position to stop this from happening after her home town is overtaken by militia who aren't that interested in the village and her people.
A total page turner! Can't wait for the next book to see where the story takes us next!

The plot thickens. I love the "nightmare" nickname. I love a good hate-to-love romance, but this is such a slow burn that it physically pains me. It is nice to actually see fae characters who live up to their dangerous personalities warned about.

In Book.3. Allie & her father are finally home. However nothing is the same as when she left and neither is her father. The military has taken over the village on the pretence of protection not knowing Sir Eckelmeyer nefarious’s intentions. Now she faces suspicion, contentment, loneliness & brutality, from the very people she classed as friends. Everyday she wants nothing more than to re-join the Fae who took her to a world of confusion and atrocities where loyalty is a foreign concept. I love the covers to the Tangled Fae series! All of them are beautiful. This one, Fae Nightmare, blends a bit more whimsy in with the danger. It's fitting with Book 3 as we get to see Allie Hunter's nurturing heart. She's back in the human world, but things have changed in the ten years that she was gone. She needs to navigate the new dangers while figuring out a way to free the children and trap her evil sister, and she has to do all this without an ally. Allie is also desperately trying to get back to her trickster Fae husband, Scouvrel. Even though these two have been separated, we still get small glimpses of him in the Fae world. They might have a complicated relationship, but I'm rooting for them!

Here's a quote from Fae Nightmare (Werex is speaking to Allie):
"War does not make sense, bloodthirsty mortal. Nor does peace. Love does not make sense and nor does hate. Magic does not make sense. But a life without any of them is a miserable echo of a thing."

Fae Nightmare is a story of betrayal, love and forgiveness.
Allie has many eye-opening and thought provoking experiences in this part of her quest.
The town she grew up in has changed quite a bit from the time she entered the fae world to the moment of her return.
There’s an unknown dark presence hanging over the town like a shroud.
Like before the townsfolk are against Allie and decide that she might make a great sacrificial lamb to appease those in higher power but Allie has other plans.
It soon becomes apparent that the only one that’s going to save the stolen children and the town is Allie...except she finds a little help in some very unexpected places.
I loved the twists Allie’s story took. I was definitely sitting on the edge of my seat through most of the story if not all. I enjoyed seeing Allie’s character grow and transform as well as the relationship between Allie and Scourvel.
The ending was a total surprise. I’m anxious to find out what’s going to happen next.

Fae Nightmare

This series keeps getting better and better. I love it when Allie can see people with her spiritual eyes - not only does she see the fae as they truly are, but she sees humans as they really are too. She realizes that life and circumstances can give anyone a tangled spirit if one allows their situations to conquer them. Can I say this, I don't like Olen, but I like his wife; who would have thought she would be the better person between the two?

Scouvrel is amazing, frustrating, and twisted... but intriguing. I'm rooting for him and Allie, but wondering if it is possible for them to ever be together. I really think they have genuine feelings for one another. But the fae are twisted and some humans are twisted too, so who knows what may happen. I will say it again: I love this series, I love Allie, and I love her spiritual sight.

The third installment of Tangled Fae does not disappoint!! The author has created a wonderful world for the reader/listener to get lost into. The games, the intrigue, survival, Fae, and humans. So much has happened while Allie was in the Fae world and she comes to a much different world. So much has changed and she’s not sure who she can trust. We do see some of Scouvrel but not enough of that tricky little Fae. I don’t think I can ever get enough of him. ❤️ I’m not sure why but he has truly captured my heart and I love him!
Allie’s character has truly evolved in this book. Allie works tirelessly trying to think of ways to set a trap for the incoming Fae army and her sister. Will she be able to set the trap or will she herself be trapped? Pick up this fast paced, adrenaline pumping book to find! I highly recommend this book and audio. The narrator does a phenomenal job!!

I love Scouvrel and Allie. Speaking of which, this installment needed more Scouvrel. His quotes have me !!!

Exhibit A: “Haunt me, Nightmare,” he pled. “Haunt me until I beg you to stop.”

Exhibit B: “You wouldn’t do that, Nightmare. Your greatest joy is in driving me into madness and haunting my every dream. Why would you abandon so perfect a victim – even to find another?”

Exhibit C: “Bring him to me, Little Hunter, and I will pay disgrace with disgrace. We could have so much fun teaching him to grovel, you and I.”

And the best -

Exhibit D: “You vicious Nightmare,” he said with a look that was both enraged and delighted. “You horrible, gut-wrenching addiction. If I could be rid of you by plunging myself in the darkest depths of the sea, I would not hesitate to drown in the forgetting.”

I need more of them as soon as possible. Off to the next!

At the time I am writing this review, I am half way through the 4th book of the series.

This book brings us back in the human world and we discover the changes to Allie's village with her. The change in scenery keeps things interesting. There is a bit too much toxic masculinity going on with one antagonist in particular but I guess it's the point so the character is disliked. Hulanna is also more obnoxious than ever. I am hopping for some character development for her in the next books.
I love how Allie and Scouvrel relationship has developed. For me a slow burn romance like this one always beats the rushed romance often found in other fae fantasy books. Their dialogs are the funniest parts of the book and allow some moments of lightheadedness in the middle of the life and death situations Allie keeps ended up with.
