When an old friend and rival from the Devil's Run calls on Dutch to help get him out of a sticky situation down San Salvador way, Dutch has no choice but to go to his aid - only to find herself trapped in a pit with a newly-hatched kaiju and no way to escape.
Devil's Road is the exciting new novel from Gary Gibson, author of Stealing Light, Extinction Game and others, and a writer described by The Guardian newspaper as "a master of core sf" and by the Daily Mail as "one of our best exponents of hardcore SF adventure".
Gary Gibson's first novel, Angel Stations, was published in 2004. Interzone called it "dense and involving, puzzling and perplexing. It's unabashed science fiction, with an almost "Golden Age" feel to it ..."
His second novel was Against Gravity in 2005; the Guardian described it as "building on current trends to produce a convincing picture of the world in 2096."
Stealing Light was first published in 2007, and garnered a wide range of positive reviews. The London Times called it: "A violent, inventive, relentlessly gripping adventure ... intelligently written and thought-provoking".
Stealing Light is the first volume in a four-book space opera, the final volume of which, Marauder, was published in 2013.
To date, Gary has written ten novels, most recently Extinction Game and its sequel, Survival Game.
Since this is a short prequel book all I'm going to do is leave a few sentences on HOW GOOD IT IS!!
Basically it just describes a day in the life of Dutch McGuire - a badass racer with an attitude problem, and how she gets out of an extremely dangerous situation with a drug lord
Amazing intro the the Devil's Road, gives a bit of a background for a few things and introduces part of the world. Definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoy fantasy, Sci-Fi or action books
I got this short story because although I like Gary Gibson's books, I wasn't sure if Devil's Road would be my thing, but now having read Our Lady of Holy Death, I really want to explore this world of racing and Kaijus! It's definitely going to be my next book purchase and even after this short narrative, I already really like the MC, Dutch.
