Having worked at no less than three video stores in my youth, this was a walk down memory lane. It showcases the stickers that were applied to video rental cassettes as art rather than something that was often removed with disdain.
There were stickers that gave pricing, genre, and melt warnings. Even the ubiquitous “Be Kind, Rewind” is given its own section. The reader gets to see how creative a lot of the mom and pop video stores were when giving this simple reminder.
What I loved most about Stuck on VHS is that the author would list the movie that the various stickers were found on. It was a detail that helped illustrate what message these stickers were helping to convey. This book is a must read for people who miss the days of perusing the video shelves on a Friday night, hoping to find the newest must-see movie.
