This book was republished in Russian in Petrograd in 1919, and it has been appeared again and again in German. It appears, however, that it was never translated to English. Lavrov uses the entire book to hammer home one argument: the proletarian revolution in Paris could have been successful had the proletarian party given itself a solid organization and a program for economic transformation before the revolution began. Lavrov explains how the First International was paralyzed by ideological confusion right until the day the Commune was proclaimed. As a result, the Commune did not have a leadership that understood the historical tasks of the working class. This book clearly had a huge influence on the thinking of Lenin and other Russian revolutionaries about the need for a disciplined party. Hopefully I can write a more thorough review soon.
