Ice

Rate this book
Ray, barely fifteen years old, knows a lot about gaming and getting top grades at school. He's about to learn how useless those skills are in a crisis.

Freezing rain pelts down over a small Virginia city, coating roads, power lines, and trees. In a few hours, the city bustle grinds to a halt. When his mom is stuck at work for the duration of the storm, Ray's first challenges seem like no big deal: don't fall on the icy walkways, and make his own meals.

But as the ice continues to fall, his problems mount. First he loses power, then cell phone service, and then an icy tree comes crashing through the roof. The survival video games he has been playing bear no resemblance to real-life survival in extreme conditions.

Only his connection with the old woman next door might save him.

Went nowhere

A lot of useless things that happen repeatedly and no one died. Hardly a disaster just a bad storm and some people lose power. Ong.

I stayed up way late reading but I regret nothing! 😊 I love the authors take on different scenarios of what if. I adore the main characters. Teenager and older woman. How the older woman taught the male teenager how to survive in a difficult situation. But, he taught her too.Imagine if an ice storm came, you at home alone ( the male teen ) your Mom isn’t with you. And the only way you can make it is to go to your elderly neighbor, who you really don’t know. And that’s all I can say.I learned a lot from this read. I highly recommend this book. ❤️

Disaster with a side of philosophy

Ice Storm is a disaster novel about a catastrophic ice storm hitting Virginia and the people who survived it. The best part of the book wasn't the action, but the discussions between Ray and Eve. Ray also demonstrated remarkable capacity for growth and willingness to step up to help people, and to be able to admit he needed help. 4/5 stars. Recommended for fans of disaster fiction and entertaining philosophical discussion.

Very good

A definite can't put down novel. Anything is possible in this time of my life. No more thinking this can't happen in my mind.

Good read

Makes you think what you would do in an emergency situation. And how we take for granted modern conveniences. We all should be thankful.

3.5* — the chillest (no pun intended) survival story I’ve ever read
