Imagine if you will, a world where our history pages have been smudged, ever so slightly. A world where places and people sort of, well…differ from our current reality.
Our history books suggest the Titanic sank during her maiden voyage and that Nikola Tesla has no place on the mantle of great inventors, but this tale, from the memoirs of Sir Swarley Paxmore, tells a different, skewed story…
This novel is about a war involving dragons and the Brits and Americans working together to defeat them. The dragons have lit the world on fire and must be defeated to save both countries. It's written in a first-person account, told by the main character, Swarley Paxmore. An experiment by Tesla seems to have caused some type of rift that allowed the dragons into our world.
The author also has a YouTube reading, with sound effects, of this book. You will feel as though you've stepped into an alternate universe and World War I novel with all the early 1900s references, but rest assured, it's far more. Flying, powerful dragons and the brave men, including President Roosevelt and his Rough Riders, fight to the death. You must read to find out who won...
Gregg Cunningham’s Wardenclyffe is a riotous action adventure set in a what if world. A world where Tesla’s experiments run amok and gateways to other realms are opened. It’s a cracking read that’s short enough to finish in one sitting. This is a good thing, but I would have dearly loved for it not to have ended so soon. Cunningham has created a fascinating world rather reminiscent of Edgar Rice Burroughs wild adventures. And the main character is a likeable letch going by the moniker of Captain Paxmore (or is it Paxbrough?) who has a touch of the Flashman about him, only much more courageous than that bounder. Highly recommended.
Cunningham has a unique, humorous voice that you just can’t find anywhere else. It doesn’t matter he’s writing horror, science fiction, or drama- he finds a way to slip in those wise cracks. I love his work. This was a great read, which didn’t surprise me in the least bit because I’ve enjoyed all his writing to date.
Tesla, the Titanic and Dragons. What is there not to love? This is a rollicking good adventure - a genre-bending mash up in which Cunningham skillfully creates a vivid world and engaging characters. A highly recommended read!
I’ve never read anything quite like this. If you’re ready for an exciting genre mash up of fantasy, historical fiction and adventure pick this up. Oh, and the beasts… Such fun!
