Good, informative book. It really cuts through some common misconceptions about productivity and the creative mindset. It teaches you how to adopt a professional mindset, and shake off your tendency to noodle around, whether it be writing, composing, etc.
There's nothing like experience from a professional. Most notably it shows in the fact that this is one of those rare how-to books that aren't bloated with filler (as if page count is somehow associated with learning a concept). My time is valuable (somewhat). Thank you for recognizing that.
This short, yet inciteful book has many tips on the writing process and how to live with your own imperfections. Perfection is an unattainable product, but the strive is real. Mr. Stewart enlivens the manuscript throughout with many points toward music, gaming and fiction and how they are all interrelated. Art is a multifarious creature and you would do your best work by not narrowing your outlook. The world itself is a piece of art and it has many facets. So should your art.
David is a sensible man. If you're looking for earth shattering hacks that will turn you into the kind of writer that churns out a book a week, you're going to be disappointed. What you will find is a reasonably sized guide with good advice that's well structured, each point leading nicely onto the next. I didn't find anything I didn't already know in here from a writing view point, but the addition of his experience in music gave me some food for thought. Overall, well worth a read, no regrets at all. Dean
I will apply the principles and then decide the amount of stars, but it makes sense. There are a couple of things I already do, and they work, so this book gave me a good vibe from the start, and since I started reading I have had a very productive week. So far so good.
A down to earth, practical how-to on being creative, managing time, and the discipline involved to be prolific and successful. No earth shattering secrets to be found within, just the plain old reality of it all.
The book gave great examples from different creative arts fields, writing, music, and art that were practical and doable and encouraged you to explore various ways to approach your craft that works best for you
Neatly packaged cogent wisdom. A perfectly sufficient product as it stands, regarding substance, but ideally I would've liked to see more elaboration on the perfectionism topic.
