Several years ago, Will's best friend ran away with an alien to live happily ever after. They've kept in touch, but Will misses the man that might as well be his brother. So, he decides he's going to go visit. Who cares if visiting requires a trip to outer space? No big deal, right?
Ticheck met Will for the first time while trying to find a friend who had gotten lost. Since then, they've seen him a couple times a year at most. Ticheck wasn't expecting him to be coming for a surprise visit, and they definitely weren't expecting to end up with him as a temporary roommate when cramped quarters on the ship force them to share.
From strangers, to surprise roommates, to friends…and maybe something else? But do they dare to dream of a life together when they literally come from two different worlds?
Roommates and Space Trees is a sweet asexual romance. It is book two in the Iska Universe series, but can be read as a stand-alone.
Geneva Vand has finally settled down for the long term in Chicago, IL, where her husband and two cats keep her company. Before that, you could mostly find her in Maine, Washington, or Idaho. Her loves include cross stitching, indie nail polish, and stories of all kinds.
Eventually, she decided to start adding her own stories to the world. So far she's sticking to romance. Her books tend toward light, low-heat escapism with a focus on LGBTQ+ characters.
Geneva loves to hear from her readers. Feel free to contact her by email or on social media. Visit her website to follow her blog and find book updates.
In the second novel of the Iska Universe series, Geneva Vand returns to space, this time with Eric’s best friend, Will, as the central character. Will is also asexual—never needing or feeling comfortable with sexual acts to have intimacy with one he loves, but very much looking for someone with whom he can share deep affection and love, as well as close physical contact. In Roommates and Space Trees, we watch as Ticheck and Will move from mere acquaintances, to friends, to more. Before I go any further, you may want to know that this is a beautifully rich romance with absolutely no sex whatsoever—even the kissing is only on the cheek. Frankly, Will and Ticheck’s growing relationship is not at all negatively affected by that; I thoroughly enjoyed watching these two grow together and never once thought sex would add anything to the story overall. In fact, I was really taken with how Will cared for Ticheck and brought him out of his shell. He saw what no one else could see—the sweet being beneath the rough exterior.
3.5 I enjoyed this low angst straightforward story. Just the right level of distraction for my state of mind right now. But it needs more editing. One name error early on that was distracting, and one POV error in the epilogue really took away from the story since they were glaring enough to make me reread for Clarity. The POV error was particularly bad since the structure of the story is told in 3rd person for one character and 1st person for another. An error in this was too much. Especially for my HEA portion of the story. It’s like a bad dessert at the end of a meal. When it’s bad, it’s all you remember of the whole meal.
This is a sweet, no heat, asexual romance. I thoroughly enjoyed Roommates and Space Trees, even more than the first book in the series. That's in part because this book needed less world building, and so there was more time to focus on feelings and the growing bond Will and Ticheck have as a couple. I also appreciated that will is asexual. I do think asexual and alosexual relationships can work, and one of the things I doesn't like so much about the first book is how quickly the human MC dismisses physical intimacy without an explanation like he was on the ace spectrum or had thought about the different dimensions of a relationship before, which isn't always an intuitive line of thought. I very much enjoyed this story and would read more in this universe. And what's not to love about a slow burn with elements of found family?
The long-awaited follow up book to Eric and Keeska's story focuses on Eric's best friend, Will, and Tichek. Will and Tichek have their first meeting when Tichek arrives to Earth to look for his wayward student, Keeska, and Will shows him to Eric's house. After several years of his best friend living with his partner in space, Will decides to follow Eric. They end up becoming room mates to a housing issue on board their ship due to the arrival of visitors. Will and Tichek's evolving relationship is so adorable with kitties, space trees, and weird alien vegetables! Another great book by Geneva Vand :)
Another 3.5☆ for me. There was nothing I didn't like about this in particular, but it also wasn't... super romantic? And that's the feel I want in a romance. Is part of that due to the MCs being asexual? Maybe, but their entire relationship failed to feel like it had any sparks at all... other than possibly the moment near the end when Tichek knocked over Keeska's boxes. Still, the "roommates" portion of the title felt apt, and... I just wasn't feeling it. I doubt I'll pick up additional books in this series if they come out.

A continuation in the same tone and enjoyment as the first book.
It was just sweet to see how Ticheck and Will vibed with each other right from the start. Ticheck, who is generally grumpy and happy to be left alone, and Will, who is overwhelmed at being in space and finds comfort in Ticheck. I enjoying the further exploration of the space station, Iska life and culture as well as just genuine interactions of past and current characters.
I like my romances generally with a little more tension and maybe not quite as easy-going. It's a fun romp but I can't say it will stay with me for long.
It just keeps getting better In a continuation of Granola Bars and Spaceships, this book nocks it out. The world is fantastic, this story is a build up of the first so you definitely want to read them in order. The love is so amazingly written it feels like you are right there with the cast. Once again this is a Extremely low heat but all heart book. Oh, and just throwing it out there, we need a short or new book that includes the baby!
I really enjoyed the relationship between Will and Ticheck from acquaintances to friends and then more. The worldbuilding with the Iska is simpl, but interesting and it was lovely to see the characters from the first book. A lovely, sweet, sometimes humourous story of falling in love across the universe.
My ace heart fell in love with this book, actually, both the Iska Universe books. I LOVED how well the author portrayed romance without adding steam to the story. I know I'll be definitely reading this book again sometime.
These two kind of slipped fairly quietly into a pretty sweet relationship as we as a reader got to tag along and watch a human figure out space life. Great book.
