I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed! I’ve been binge-reading the Katie Parker books these past few days and they are so good. This latest adventure was an emotional ride as Katie navigates life during a tragedy all while trying to keep herself afloat during her first weeks of college (ah, the beginning of higher education days. Shudder.).

I love how Katie continues to embrace her new family. There’s thankfully a lot of Maxine in this one, and she continues to be the sweetest and craziest book grandmother ever. Maxine must be protected at all costs!

I also love how Jenny B. Jones manages to make you die of laughter but also gives a big emotional punch in her books. Ready for Act 5! It’s taken me a while to read the Katie Parker books (I read the first one several years ago), but better late than never.

'All my life, I've been the recipient of people's pity.'

Jenny B. Jones takes us back to her Katie Parker series with this addition. I read this series years ago and loved it. Although it's designated as Young Adult, it's really good and totally interesting to this old lady. (smile) Jones' trademark humor and ability to delve into serious life situations are more than evident here and this one packs a huge emotional wallop.

'Some of the best things are on the other side of fear.'

Katie Parker is a newly minted freshman at college an hour away from In Between, where she lives with her adoptive parents, James and Millie Scott, whom she dearly loves. She soon finds out that her dorm is not available and she's been assigned to the honors dorm with two roommates she doesn't much care for and one that is really iffy as far as getting along is concerned. I mean, the gal is totally unable to relate to a human being at all. Then there's Katie's relationship with Tate, her boyfriend, or maybe her non-relationship with him, as she barely sees him, despite the fact they go to the same college. Then a situation arises that throws her totally into disarray mentally and Katie worries she can't cope or even want to cope. And there is Maxine! Boy, do I love that woman! She makes every book she is in just totally pop! What a character.

'Shame is a nasty foe, and it wants nothing more for you to shove it in the back of your closet.'

Jones never disappoints me when I read her books. Never. One I've read three times. And will read yet another time. And another. If I live long enough. Her ability to charm us with her wit, then turn around and delve into our hearts is one thing I love about her writing. I can't wait for the next one in this series. I recommend this book!

*My thanks to the author for a preview copy of this book. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

I was provided this book by the publisher for review.

In my eyes, Jenny B. Jones can do no wrong. I will absolutely read any book she writes. And if you happen to be stuck inside your house during a global pandemic, another Katie Parker book is what you want.

This book falls in between the third in the original trilogy and Can't Let You Go. Here, Katie struggles with the transition to college and is presented with a personal crisis that rocks her. I adore Jones's style: sarcasm, hilarious characters like Grandma Maxine, and yet a touch of serious subjects that shine through. Faith is touched on with a light hand. Katie's struggles as a neglected child, foster child, and adopted daughter feel true and aren't taken lightly.

I think Something to Believe In is a great addition to the Katie Parker canon. If you've loved the other books in the series, definitely read this one. It won't disappoint.

What a fantastic read. Sigh, I am sorry its over. This book had so much heart and humor in it. I have come to expect a certain level of humor in Jenny's books and this one has it in spades. There were times I laughed till my sides hurt(chapters 21 and 26, I am looking at you!) and many more humorous lines I loved as well. I enjoyed Katie's roommates in the story, they made for great secondary characters and I adored having more of Maxine, she is one of my all-time favorite characters, mainly because she is a hoot and a half. The drama of the story tugged at my heart, and made the book HARD to put down. This story was simply wonderful. If you like tons of humor or have read Katie's earlier adventures, then don't miss this one! It's a treasure! I will be purchasing a hard copy for my keeper shelf as soon as possible.

I received this book from the author and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my honest opinion.

A long overdue story!
My rating is 4.5 stars

I have been watching and waiting for more books by Jenny B. Jones. I just never dreamed the next would pick up with Katie Parker's life in college! After all, Can't Let You Go is her post-college story. But we needed to know what happened in college. Or at least needed another opportunity to see Katie in action with her grandmother/best friend, Maxine!

Something to Believe In is a great blend of angst and humor. Katie is such a snarky, tough girl, yet heading off to college, leaving her new parents is hard! Especially when her dorm arrangements got changed and instead of the compatible roommate and the beautiful room, she is stuck in a dorm with two nerds, one of whom is downright hostile. And then, when things begin to fall apart...

Fortunately, Maxine is also in the story. Maxine is up to her usual quirky self. Charming the college boys and practicing for the Ms. Silver Texas pageant. And roping Katie in on her clandestine activities. I couldn't help but laugh at her antics! And melt at her deep love for Katie and the sage advice she gives.

I loved the depths of these characters. The trials Katie faced were hard and helped to make her stronger. The lessons she learned were profound, especially how to love her biological mom, despite the pain she suffered while under her "care". And how Katie learned that she is not her mom, and her past doesn't define who she has to become.

It has been five or six years since I've read the other books in the Katie Parker Productions series. The author did a great job in this one by dropping the necessary reminders about what had happened without retelling the story. So if it has been a while for you, no worries, it is like riding a bike. Katie's story will come back to you naturally. However, this series is so great, whether you have read them or not, start from the beginning and read them all! (But save Can't Let You Go for later!)

Full rating 3 1/2 stars My thoughts on Something to Believe in by Jenny B Jones.
In the end of the third book The Big Picture Katie meets this boy Tate ( and they start to date) and picking it up in this book. it’s like Tate totally changed. Jenny changed his character so much. He went from a good boyfriend in the third book to a jerk. And every time him and Katie had a fight they’d kiss and everything would be fine.. I don’t like it when people do that. especially when he’s not taking how she feels into consideration. you don’t see Frances (Katie’s bestfriend a lot) and you don’t see Sam, Katie’s grandpa a lot either) I wanted to know what happened between Frances and Nash ( Frances ex boyfriend) because in Can’t Let You Go she’s married to Charlie Benson’s brother, Joey.) and you rarely see Charlie (Katie’s other bestfriend/ ex boyfriend a lot) they had few conversations on the phone and I loved it when they did. I’ll always love Jenny B Jones. And I’ll always read her books. But this one I gotta rate 3 1/2 stars.

Jenny B. Jones did it again. The Katie Parker series was the first set of books that I read of Jenny’s and I was hooked. The emotional journey that Katie goes on continues as she leaves for college in Something to Believe In. Getting to this point was not easy for Katie, as academics were not nearly as familiar to her as getting herself into trouble. The beginning of the story plunged me right back into my feelings as I went off to college for the first time and dealt will illness and loneliness. I felt like I was right there with her.

Katie gets to her school and all of her excitement for her first residence hall quickly gets quashed because of a physical problem in the building that sends her to a new building and not one roommate, but two—and it’s the honors dorm! Katie takes us on her journey of learning to deal with two roommates, a boyfriend who joined a fraternity and always seems to have something else to do, and her classes aren’t exactly what she expected.

A person from Katie’s past comes back into her life with some tragic consequences, forcing Katie to add new stress to her list of troubles that are getting as long as the list class assignments she has not kept up with. As she falls behind, she finds out who her true family and friends are as she navigates this new and challenging road. My heart ached and rejoiced for Katie, and laughed at some of the predicaments that she and her friends and loved ones, including her adopted grandmother “Mad Maxine” get into. (We all need a relative like Mad Maxine to keep us young and entertained. I love her!)

This is a must-read once you have read the other stories because reading the first three takes you through Katie’s placement with the Scott’s, her forced reunion with her negligent and drug-addicted mother, and the spiritual faith that she developed with her foster family. Jenny B. Jones’s wit, sarcasm, and ability to write relatable characters that draw you in are the reason that I keep coming back. Her writing touches your heart and allows you to see some of yourself in the characters. I have read every book that she has written, and will continue to do so!

Jenny b Jones does not disappoint with the 4th book in the Katie Parker Production series! This book follows Katie's freshman year in College where she attends Hendrix University with her boyfriend Tate. Katie has a unique ability to make you love her one minute and pity her the next. During her first semester at Hendrix she learns to deal with a roommate who doles out orders and rules like a drill sergeant, a boyfriend who makes excuses of fraternity responsibilities in order to not spend time with her, a Drama professor who can't seem to remember her name and an unexpected event that will make her question the course her life is on. Can Katie deal with all that life has put on her plate? Is College worth it? Is God there through the good and the bad? And then there's Maxine, she too is struggling with something that is affecting her present mood. Of course, a Katie Parker book wouldn't be right without some shenanigans from Maxine. The relationship these two have formed over the years, along with the injuries and sometimes life threatening situations, is one that will make you want to reach through the pages and become a part of. In the end, Katie faces life with the support of those whom we've come to love and some new ones that win our hearts like only Jenny's characters do. Whether you are someone who has been in the foster care system, loved someone in the foster care system, dealt with death of a loved one or are currently going through it this book will make you stop and ask yourself if you were Katie how would you handle what the world dishes out? And then make you appreciate those that loved you right through it. Jenny's characters are deep and relatable. They are your neighbors, your children, your grandparents, your community members. Everyone in this book is someone you know with just a different name. That's why you will get so involved in Katie's life and the lives of those that share it with her. You will laugh, cry and ask yourself do I have "Something To Believe In"?

I have read so many reviews of books that says things like, "I laughed...I cried...it moved me, Bob." Oh wait...that was VeggieTales.

Nevertheless, this book really DID do that. When I say I laughed out loud, I don't just mean that more air came out of my nose than a usual exhale. I don't even mean that I just let out one guffaw. I mean that I giggled and laughed for full seconds, having to stop reading just to get out the laugh and compose myself to continue. When I say that I cried, I don't just mean that I felt the emotion of crying or that my eyes welled with tears. I mean that some tears actually fell down my face. A good two or three at least.

I have been a long-time fan of Jenny B. Jones and usually purchase her books before reading them, and I never regret it. This was no exception.

Jenny wrote a statement at the beginning asking for some grace in case there were any inconsistencies from this storyline and Can't Let You Go, but I'm happy to say that there were not any to my "expert" recollection. Poor Jenny, feeling that she has to include that because obnoxious fans like I am sometimes send her messages as passionate high schoolers, asking questions like, "Why did Katie have to end up with Tate at the end of The Big Picture??? Why???" I thought the book was clever and beautiful and wonderfully worked to weave this story in the In Between (pun intended) time of Katie's college life, between The Big Picture and Can't Let You Go.

To close, I have to say that Charlie. Benson. Is. The. Best. And that is not a spoiler, because if you didn't know that already, then I'll need to pray for you.

Surprise, surprise (though, not really)... Jenny B. Jones wrote another fantastic book! Katie Parker fans--this is a must read! Fair warning though: once you do, you're going to want to go back and re-read all the other KP books so you can further extend your delight in how wonderful this series is and put all the pieces back together in the right order (since this book is the *new* Book Four).

I'd go ahead and commit to that block of time now...just sayin'.

When it comes to telling coming-of-age-type stories with charm and wit, Jenny B. Jones has talent in spades. I already knew (& loved) these characters from previous stories, so I had a bias going into this one in that respect. But the dialogue is great, the plot is realistic, and I'd say it's a fast read because once you start, it's easy to get swept away and just "one more chapter" your way into reading the whole book in one or two sittings.

I've probably said this a hundred times, but Jones's books are a breath of fresh air. And since the storyline in the Katie Parker books transition from YA to NA (New Adult) throughout the course of the series, I'd recommend them to just about anyone, teenage years and up. There are some lessons in life we could stand to learn (and re-learn) and what better way to do that than through fiction, right?

Something to Believe In touches on themes like grief, fear, persistence, adjusting expectations, and knowing when to let go of the things that are weighing you down. And no one delivers a powerful message with humor and grace like Jenny B. Jones.

I've been a fan of Jenny B. Jones for years, so I was thrilled to find out she was adding to the Katie Parker series. Something to Believe In fills in a bit of the gap between books 1–3 (high school) and Can't Let You Go (Katie is around 24). Side note: definitely read the other books in the series! Everything will make more sense, but more importantly, it's a highly enjoyable way to spend your time!
In this book, Katie is heading off to college, where she has to suddenly handle unexpected roommate and dorm changes, a relationship with her boyfriend who was previously long-distance, having to start over and work her way up in the theater, and some personal loss. I really liked seeing the ways that Katie grew throughout the book, and the way that her various relationships evolved. There was a faith element in this book as well, and I felt that it was handled well (it didn't feel preachy, which I really don't like).
It was fun to revisit characters who appeared in the series: Frances, Tate, crazy Maxine, and of course Charlie Benson. As with all the other Jenny B. Jones books, this was filled with witty dialogue, entertaining characters (and scenarios) and was hard to put down. Actually, once I finished this, I had to go straight to a reread of Can't Let You Go.

I was provided with a preview copy of this book, but all opinions are my own.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks so much to the author/publisher!

Y’all this book was perfect. Such a well done “In Between” (pun intended) novel.

Something to Believe In takes place between The Big Picture and Can’t Let You Go. After the gaps left between the two, it is just the addition we needed. This book follows Katie as she begins her college career and deals with the sickness and eventual death of her biological mom, alongside everything else a normal college freshman handles on a daily basis.

I love how it explored the relationship between Katie and her mom and then the eventual death of Katie’s only biological parent. Parents and their children are not always close and many people do not look at the fallout that comes when the parent in the relationship passes away. It is a topic that should be talked about. It also explores grief and how it affects existing relationships.

Secondly I will forever love Jenny’s work for the ways they make me laugh and for their sarcasm. In this book, it really helps to balance things since it does deal with some heavy topics.

Also, as always, Mad Maxine. She never disappoints. I want one of her!

My only critique would be that I felt like a few of the minor characters fell a bit flat. I felt like Tate’s character did a 180 and we didn’t get to see quite enough of James and Millie. Other than that, I have zero complaints.

This was a wonderful book that I will definitely be recommending!

I absolutely LOVE the Katie Parker Production Series, and this book did not disappoint! Katie goes through some trials and tribulations, but remains strong even at her lowest point. I felt like I could totally relate to her about her first year in college, because mine wasn't that great either.

Maxine is hilarious and actually had me laughing out loud at times! I love how she can have heart-to-heart conversations with Katie, but still add her classic humor into it as well.

I was glad Katie gets so much support during the hard times she faces by friends at college and at home. I also love that Charlie is in this book (I love him)!!

I have enjoyed all the books I've read by Jenny B. Jones and cannot wait for more books in the future!

This is the fourth book in the series, though I could tell it was made at a different time than the rest if the books. It was made to fill in the space between The Big Picture and Cant Let You Go (which I CANNOT wait to read!). This book shows Katie's struggles as she begins college and how she kind of juggles it all. She deals with her mom, new friends, old friends, and one friend in particular I knew from the very MOMENT he appeared closer to the end of In Between he was the one who Katie would end up with (I know this because by now, I've seen what the newest book is about). This book really shows Katie as a more vulnerable person in some ways, and I've noticed that throughout all the books, she's slowly letting down her defenses. 5 stars for this amazing book!!!

This new installment of the Katie Parker Production series is a must read. I love this series and enjoyed this addition. It helped bridge the gap and brought us to a part of Katie’s life that needed to told to fully understand her story. This book hits all the emotions. You’ll connect with the main character, Katie as she stumbles her way through a life altering experience while navigating yet another new environment. This book has a Christian foundation and will allow you insight into how hard it is to forgive and extend grace to people that should love you more than anything, yet don’t. This is a must read young adult series.

Katie needed THIS story. Looking for a story with a lot of heart? THIS is your story!

Oh my! All the feels! I haven’t cried as much in a previous Katie Parker book, but we both needed it! Katie says, “...this is what Maxine does. She makes me bare my soul but throws me smiles and snacks along the way.” This is exactly what Jenny B. Jones does with this story. We get despair and hard lessons about grace with smiles and laughs along the way. Katie Parker fans will not be disappointed! 📚❤️

I read the first 3 in the series to get ready for this NEW #4 of the series.

Altho' I have my own fan fiction in place I still loved this book and how it ended.

I have missed Katie and love seeing her in college, her constant relationship with Maxine and her continual growth in relationship with/about her mom.

Jenny B Jones’s books make me happy. So glad to have a new one to enjoy! Her characters continue Jenny’s tradition of witty banter, hilarious situations (I’m looking at you Maxine!), life lessons, heartwarming relationships and moments to pause for some introspection. How she does it while entertaining us all at the same time shows her talent as an author. I love Katie Parker and In Between and completely enjoyed a new installment to the series. I couldn’t put this book down.

Jenny did it again with this fantastic novel! Something to Believe In leaves you on the edge of your seat as Katie Parker Scott is experiencing her freshman year of college, and things crumbling all around her. Mad Maxine is her typical self keeping things exciting and has a few surprising moments up her sleeves for Ms. Katie. Incredibly well-written! Definitely recommend this book as your next must-read. This book certainly isn't as strong as it's predecessors, but it is nice to get a look at Katie in college. The whole thing is typically Katie, but I find myself wishing she'd dealt with things a little differently (I mean come on Katie Girl wake up). Granted she does go through some stuff, stuff I cant pretend to understand. Jenny B. Jones was missing some of her trademark humor in this book I think, but I would still definitely recommend the series and the author.

I read the first three books in this series in high school. I emailed Jenny B. Jones to see if she was going to continue Katie’s story. She said no, but I am so glad she changed her mind! I read the first 3 books again to refresh my memory (it’s been at least 10 years) and this book did not disappoint! It was a wonderful addition to the story of Katie Parker. I immediately started the next book. Jenny B. Jones NEVER disappoints!!

Okay, so one thing I don’t like is how stuff happens between the books, and you never really get that story! She does a good job of catching you up, but I always feel like I’ve missed out. Besides that, Katie Parker is still keeping me glued to the page. And can I just say Charlie Benson people!! ❤️😂

Usually it takes weeks to read a book. This took me days, it was that good. Here, Katie is dealing with the aftermath of tragedy and coming to terms with her mother. There is the romance with Tate, who appeared to have changed from the previous book. I was really pulling for those 2. And of course, Mad Maxine roping Katie into another one of her schemes. Loved this book!

Coming of Age novel

In this book of college life, it captures the trials of college better than some books could. Roommate issues, not enough time to get everything done and depression. The realities were pretty bleak!
