Aspen is a sick girl--always has been. So when it's decided she'll be this month's sacrifice to the sky monsters, she isn't surprised. She believes that if she survives until daylight, she can return home. What kind of creature would want something that's only bones, anyway?
K. Weikel writes dark fantasies about survivors that save the world, even if they have to become monsters themselves.

This is a reread of When the Sky Eats. I was lucky enough to have access to an eArc of this but I only gave it four stars. I bought the paperback because it was gorgeous and I wanted to read the book in a different format to see if I would like it more. This book is my new obsession. We're following Aspen as she's sacrificed by her village, only to realize that the world is a lot different than she knew. There are flying beasts in the air that hold worlds in their stomachs and everything is so cool and big and deadly. This book is a whole other aesthetic. One of the things I love about this is its character arc. Aspen goes from a self-centered, selfish brat to someone who is ready to lay her life on the line for the people around her. There is a lot of character growth in some of the other people as well. Overall it's just done so well. If I could recommend one book to everyone it would be this one. Please, buy the paperback or ebook and let yourself be pulled into this crazy, unique world. I don't think you'll regret it!
First of all, I hope to reread this in paperback because I feel like I missed a lot of the story. I couldn't really concentrate on the ebook and that made the story a little confusing. I was planning to give this a three star and adjust the rating when I read the paperback but the ending sold this for me. It was so beautiful.
This story follows Aspen, a sick girl, as she gets chosen to become the nightly sacrifice to the sky monsters. She realizes that the sky monsters are quite different from what she imagined. This was a sci-fi/fantasy type story with heavy magical-ish elements. It is set on earth, now too far in the future. I will admit, this world is probably my favorite K. Weikel world. I would love more books centered around the main beasts because they do this really cool thing with swallowing worlds and... that could be used in some really cool spin-offs. Maybe that's coming in the future, I don't know.
Overall I loved the characters and the world but I struggled to actually fully immerse myself into the story. This book releases on March 17th. I hope some of you will think about picking up the ebook or the paperback. I think the cover is also stunning so I want this on my shelf.
Y’all!! This book is so good!! The concept is super creative, the characters show growth, and the world building is absolutely beautiful! I would recommend this book to someone looking for something fun to read! It’s not light (like contemporaries) but it is definitely entertaining and encourages people to do the right thing. (Also, how beautiful is that cover? K. Weikel did an amazing job!)
When The Sky Eats is a beautiful book. The world Weikel depicts is colorful and unique, and the characters are all diverse in looks and personality. Weikel is a master at creating complex universes and perfectly molding them in just one standalone.
I’m pretty new to reading Weikel’s stuff and so far it’s always a roller coaster. I’ve been so excited about this book and i’m so glad I was able to get a physical copy (thanks to Weikel herself, along with some playing cards from her book Stop, my favorite)
It’s hard to find chronically ill characters in fantasy, so I’m glad this one gave me the chance to read that. Aspen does get healed in the end, which I would have liked to not happen, but beggars can’t be choosers. That is probably my only problem with the book, and anyone who is not chronically ill can easily overlook that. It’s still the first fantasy I’ve read with a chronically ill MC and I’m grateful for that.
My favorite characters were Namnae and Betha, they were lovely, compound characters. Namnae is chronically ill and (once again) it’s hard to find chronically ill characters in fantasy so!! I love him so much. I have many ideas for fanart that I will hopefully be able to draw in the near future. I also really liked Karl, he was a good comic relief character that still helped the plot and I appreciated that.
Honestly with how detailed this world is, When The Sky Eats would have been an excellent trilogy, but I understand it’s beauty as a stand-alone.

The features wants bone .But it's a mystery to human for what reason they need human bones? After this the adventure begins . Aspen fights her way to home while exploring many truths and creatures .
The book is a blur between fantasy and science fiction . I found joy while reading this book. This is my second book of Author K. Weikel and she has became my fav author now . You will find a completely different story from this book . I don't know a book with a tiny bit of similarity with this book which makes it spellbinding. No one can put down this book ones started.I was reading this book in light speed due to my curiosity.
STORY- THE BOOK WAS SIMPLY UNPREDICTABLE. After reading two books of author K. Weikel,I found that her stories and characters developed beautifully. The story gets more interesting as you deep into it .She exhibits the value of humanity through her books. You are not only going to enjoy but also learn from it.
CHARACTER- As I have already stated above that the author knows perfectly how to develop her characters. All the characters are introduced in the right time with the right way .They are different to each other and interesting to read .THE MAIN PROTAGONIST IS TOUGH ,CONFIDENT AND STRONG.When the Sky Eats has aliens and crow people and these things called “Celestials”
WRITING SKILLS- K. Weikel knows exactly how to shape a story in a fascinating and unpredictable way.She explains every complex thing perfectly to understand clearly. Her writing skills are exquisite .I love her writing style.
ROMANCE- THERE IS NO ROMANCE IN THIS BOOK which I liked. ROMANCE IS NOT THE MAIN FOCUS OF THE BOOK .Though there are some cute moments between the characters. It has 'l led you to your death' trope .
I will recommend the books to every sci-fi and fantasy fans .I believe people with other genre will enjoy this book too.YOU WILL HAVE A FRIEND THROUGHOUT READING IT. IT'S NAME IS CURIOSITY. The curoisity of what's going to happen hook me to this book from start to finish. ITS A GREAT BOOK.
I'm not leaving a star review because I don't think that's fair as I didn't finish this book.
Though the cover is pretty and I wanted to like this, I really struggled with understanding it.
You're thrown headlong into multiple complex scenes with different characters without knowing who they are, usinglanguage that shows promise but desperately needs an editor for clarity and flow. I found myself catching errors and re-reading sentences multiple times to try and understand what was actually going on in any given scene.
This author has talent, but the execution here needs revisions.
