Mommy’s Boy had not killed for five years. Detective Alvarez of the 43rd in the Bronx had lined up his suspects, but each of them had a more or less credible alibi and he was nowhere close to solving the case. Then the killings had stopped and the case went cold…
Then, five years later, he killed again. And this time the chief wants him caught and dealt with-for good.
So he calls in Stone and Dehan. This is one cold case which is hot and live. Because the clock is ticking and time is running out for the next girl who is going to be butchered.
But as they start to review Alvarez’ suspects, in particular Nelson Vargas of the Chupacabras gang, and the charismatic leader of the Church of Final Days, James Campbell, they begin to realize that Alvarez had overlooked one crucial possibility. A possibility that was going to cost lives…
And then Dehan made a discovery. A discovery that would change everything, forever…

I really do not know what I am going to do when I have finished this series. It provides me with a reliable supply of quick, exciting reads which I can always count on enjoying. Some of them are better than others but they are all good!
Mommy's Little Killer gets a bit more serious than usual and Stone loses his cool in a very big way. For a good reason of course. Everything gets very dramatic indeed and then the author throws us a curve ball at the end. All this in a relatively short book.
If you enjoy police procedurals with a lot of action and some comedy try this series. It is good.
I started reading this series through a kindle recommendation . I must apologise for not eating it after reading the first book. I literally haven't stopped reading from the minute I finished the first book I now have finished the whole series and can't wait for the 23rd on the 22nd of June to come out . I have never before read such a long series of books not stopping till I've got to end . I have given it 5 stars if possible I would give it 105 . It grabs the attention and always keeps you guessing riveting read humour twists and turns and never boring keep them coming PLEASE
NYPD Homicide, Cold Case detectives Stone and Dehan are investigating the return of a serial killer. The killer is well versed in the investigation techniques and methods that are universally utilized by law enforcement in general. An FBI profiler is brought in to assist. He thinks it's one person. Stone and Dehan think it's two killers working as a team. Their both right. This is a high tension mind boggling whodunnit of mega proportions!!! Enjoyed immensely!!!
Two cold case detectives investigate when a serial killer returns after a five-year absence. The detectives, a married couple, revisit the early suspects including a hate-filled preacher and a misogynist gang leader. But are they on the right track or is the real killer laughing from the sidelines?
I probably would have enjoyed this book had it been set in Europe. The atmosphere for New York is all wrong. Props for accurate locations in the city and Rochester but the language, positions, politeness are not authentic. For instance, a vehicle that plays a role in the mystery is a Ford Kuga. The US version is the Ford Escape. Not a bad tale but it is superimposed on the wrong city.
Goodness, his books (novella, really, at 151 pgs.) are getting much worse. This one was embarrassingly bad. There was so much wrong: the repetitive writing; the plot that was largely borrowed from one of his other books; the sloppy writing - typos, misspelling, incorrect words used, and not utilizing adverbs correctly; Stone as a dangerous, arrogant, egotistical man who loosely holds his detective badge, choosing to kill off the “bad guys” willy-nilly; making Dehan a simpering, naive woman dependent on “her man;” the FBI and the Inspector as fumbling ineffective leaders; and the emotional ploy of Dehan possibly being pregnant. I think this author, who prides himself on writing quickly, churning out books in quick order, should stop and spend more time actually polishing and correctly editing his attempts. Then he desperately needs a real editor. This novella was a stinker.
Firstly I would like to thank Blake Banner. I had pre ordered this book and the wrong one appeared on my kindle. I then received an email informing me of an update which I couldn't make happen. I emailed the author and immediately had a reply with a link to book funnel. Not only thank you for this but also for this series of books. Love love love them.
This is best of the best of this series, in my opinion!! Having a law officer background myself gives me a special feeling when I read good books. You have a nice touch with the research, close feel with your other police men and women, and good mind for detail and clues along the way!! Thank you for your work!!
I enjoy this series. I like the authors descriptions. Good characters. Always a twist and a surprise.
But the.ending on this story is too much. I don't buy it and out of character for John. Disappointing..... Also another story with some gaps. So I will read one more to see where it goes.
I think that this mystery is really a mystery. How do you know that the real thing is a disaster in the making? How do you want to play the game without having to worry about your loved one? What was a shame, was the false alarm. How I cried! Monica Beltrami. Montevideo, Uruguay.
Mommy's Little Killer is Book #22 in the Dead Cold Mystery series by Blake Banner. Great series. Cold Cases. Crime and investigation. Mystery. Suspense. Detectives. Police procedural. Intrigue. Tension. Dramatic developments. Action. Engrossing. Would make a superb TV series.
Great story, great murder mystery, great relationship, have read all 22 books, waiting for the next. They have become like old friends and I want to hear what they will get involved in next
I have really enjoyed all the Dead Cold Mysteries. Stone and Duhan are a great team, that provides enjoyable dialogue. It’s always fun to try and guess the killer before Stone reveals him/her, but I seem to miss out each time. I enjoy Blake Banner’s style.
It took me about 2 chapters to get used to the unusual writing style but then I enjoyed reading the interesting story. The end is not as surprising as it gets clearer and clearer that the main suspects are despicable criminals, but they're not Mommy's killer.
Always enjoyable. Love how they follow the clues and read between the lines to find their man...or woman. Read this book out of sequence so there was a surprise or two, now I’m back to book #7 in the Dead Cold series.
This was a good and entertaining read. The many suspects and action kept me turning the pages. The ending was a surprise but there was one thing I wish had been different. 😉
Ok, 22 down and still reading. Seems like a Stone is getting more and more violent, not that the bad guys don’t deserve it. Still one of those “can’t put it down” kind of stories. Highly recommend. On to the next one
Yeah, this is a story that has run its course. The plot is starting to repeat itself. Dehan in the grasp of homicidal maniacs...again. Stone throwing caution to the wind to save her...again. ANOTHER false baby alarm. The characters have become boring beyond belief. Absolutely zero growth.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, the neat twist at the end made it for me. Blake Banner's writing style is one that he can tone down the hardcore mayhem of his Omega and Verdugo series to a more cerebral theme for Stone and Dehan. They solve cases by deductive reasoning and analysis mixed with measured action inputs. Stone went bananas to protect his beloved Dehan and good on him.
Cold weather, Dehan dressed in wool head to toe. The amorous pair continue eating burgers and drinking quality coffee. Is Mrs Stone pregnant? It's about time. I'm fond of these stories, just the right length for me.
Great tale with continually changing feeling as to who the killer might be. A lot of misleading clues that confused Stone as well as me. Excellent writing and recommendation.
A good storyline for this duo, nothing as it seems, there is a personal issue with Dehan which the author has used before but didn't give it a conclusion one way or other at least this time you get an answer
Blake has done it again I love the dead cold series each book gets better than the last I really enjoy Stone & Dehan all the twists and turns and also a bit sad Dehan wasn't pregnant will she ever?
Very good read with plenty of twist and turns ,action and intrigue were exceptionally good and explanations on the territory he was in made it easy on the imagination.
