An obscure legend speaks of a man with dragon wings. Fifteen hundred years ago the man ventured into our world searching for a companion, but none could be found. He left a statue of his likeness in the keep of the castle in the hopes that one day his companion would come to him.
Christine wasn’t one to believe in legends, and certainly not on her trip through the wilds of Wales. The tour package her friend picked out for them brought them to the castle where the winged figure stood, encased in stone and superstition. Superstition, however, couldn’t explain the strange attraction she felt toward the handsome statue. Those stone eyes seemed to beckon to her, calling her to him with a force she couldn’t deny, and which she wasn’t sure she wanted to.
A haunting dream and a single touch, and she’s transported into a new world and a new life. Helplessness and confusion grip her heart as she finds herself under the power of the dragon, but there’s something in his eyes that pleads with her to remain. Will her desire to return home triumph, or will she accept the fate that's been offered to her?

I found this strange and enjoyable tale under erotica, but there's nothing erotic about it beyond a mild mention of arousal near the beginning of the book. Our hero and heroine don't so much as kiss. Our heroine is a bit dimwitted not to comprehend the obvious when terms like bride and companion are tossed about. The formidable hero is sweet, gentle with his intended bride and friends, and protective. The book needs an editor: redundant and missing words pop the reader from the story.
This may have had potential, but in its current state, it didn't work for me. I felt like pieces were missing and it kept coming off as a bit sloppy. For example, references to something having been said that was never said, comments that come out of nowhere, etc. Additionally it needs a proper edit--copious wrong word errors, missing words, awkward lines, and hyphens instead of em dashes. Finally it ends on an attempt at a hook. A ridiculous one in that there is no context and is just another comment out of nowhere that serves no purpose.
Really easy, quick read! So I first read Mac Flynn with Dragon Spell, which I might have liked a little more than this one. Since she doesn’t seem to write graphic sex scenes - which is honestly rare in this genre - I was excited to find more of her books!
I have to say I love Tristan! He was a nice deviation from typical dragon characters in that he was incredibly gentle and gracious, and he wasn’t very easy to rile up. He is supposed to be like 1,500+ years old, so it was good that he wasn’t some primal horndog with the shortest fuse in two worlds. An ancient character would be like him, so it made him much more believable.
I don’t know that I cared much for Christine because I felt like she was a little too young for this story. She made silly decisions and asked truly dumb questions. So many times I felt a headache coming on because she asked something that required very little deductive reasoning. I realize she’s a teenager sucked into another world by a love spell basically, but let’s not get crazy with the ignorance here.
We also know nothing about her as a person, so she didn’t have any depth. There were no triggers or personal scars for her, and she wasn’t even shaken from being almost eaten alive by a snake shifter.
UMMMM...WHERE’S THE PTSD?!
Then there was a super random *almost* tentacle sex scene towards the beginning that had me staring into space for a minute. The rest of the book doesn’t fit that vibe, so I can’t figure out WTH the point of it was.
I’m a little confused about why Christine was able to do magic on earth at the portal when magic doesn’t exist in our world according to Tristan. Also, how was a golem able to form on earth then, too? There are some questions here, but since this seems to be a series, maybe they’ll be answered in the following book(s)?
I know this sounds like I’m bashing this book left and right, but I really did enjoy it. This was definitely an interesting book with imaginative world-building, so I’d recommend it!
"True to my womanly form, that's where I fainted" I kid you not dear reader, that's an actual sentence, waiting for you in this train-wreck of a book. I think it's very telling of how the author approaches women, relationships, characters or writing in general. You get a heroine who, after passing through a portal into a magical world, spends most of her time waking up in bed after having fainted, who advises people that "if a man bothers you a lot it means he likes you", who by her own admission "can't even boil water" and who everyone finds beautiful and special although she considers herself to be none of these things. Is she? WE DON'T KNOW. How could we know, when the author hasn't even bothered telling us what she looks like, where she's from, why was she on a bus taking a trip around Wales with her friend, what is she doing with her life (we only hear her complaining she needs to get back into her own world, but we really have no idea why or who's waiting for her back there) and why she "ached for companionship but a boyfriend wasn't even in the cards" for her? And don't get me started on the male MC, Lord Tristan Cernunnos (I kid you not, again, that's his actual name and there isn't even a nod as per why he has the name of a legit Celtic God). Who, for the whole duration of the book, has her trapped into his own world and lying to her that there's no way back... only to repent at the last few pages and offer her her freedom... Charming fellow. Anyway, thanks for an entertaining afternoon and enough material to write a dissertation on anti-feminist cliches in romance lit. I appreciate it. I also appreciate the choice of ebook cover that has absolutely NOTHING to do with the book at all, as it implies hotness or romance of some sort. It seems to be an excellent click-bait choice based on how many people, myself included, decided to read this.
This books needs so much editing. Not just for typos, but for clarification also. I did finish but was tempted to dnf. I just had so many distracting issues. Like, is Chris really only 18? What’s her story? Why is she on a trip with a 25yo? How are they friends? Why does the 25yo use a paper map? What year is this? The whole castle scene at the beginning? Really? Let’s set that up. Let’s even suspend belief it all happened that way with a meal for dozens of people ready to go after a two mile walk in the rain with luggage. Let’s let all that go and accept it. Just to leave it all behind and not return to it? Just to have our 18yo heroine leave to another world and then not even give us a glimpse of an hea with her reason for staying?
Idk. Just so much didn’t work. It was so poorly developed. I just didn’t connect and wasn’t emotionally invested.
This book opened with much promise but then moved into strange territory. I really didn't expect the heroine to end up in a different world. The book didn't really have a conclusion, so 3 stars is all I can give it. I'm not sure why the cover has a bare chested man. It leads the reader to believe it's a different type of story than it is. And made up words - a dierth is sort of a dragon.
Christine and Tristan are brought together via a portal, but that's just the beginning of their trials. She needs to become aware of her power and he needs to nurture and train her. If you think k they fall in love and all is well, think again as you won't find out till all the books are done. The writing is good though there are several places where pronouns were messed up.
This is not an ordinary day shifter book. It encompasses a wide range of different paranormal beings. I really liked this book and highly recommend it. It is a deep book but that is what I like. The two main characters are very easy to like and I want to read the series.
Quite a pleasant read. A dragon waits 1500 years for the right girl. She touches a statue of him and is transported to his world which is full of magic. Essentially he has taken her freedom but the question is, does she want it back? A complete story in its own right, it is the first in a series of four.
Good story line and amazing characters. Bad guys and good. Several typos, easily overlooked. Might need better sight person to read first. I enjoyed reading this book. I look forward to the next one in the series.
Very much a tale of Beauty and the Beast. While this story is interesting, the writing is not polished and needs a lot of editing and corrections. The errors are very distracting and make this book difficult to read.
What an adventure. This author has created a whole new world. It is a well written book that makes all the unusual elements believable. Although I must point out that it is not a hot scorch romance per se. I highly recommend it to the lovers of magical world.
There's a huge amount of grammatical errors, typo's, plot holes and idiots. The heroine is fainting constantly, and when she's not fainting, she's busy being a special snowflake. It wasn't bad, it wasn't good. It was free tho so I won't complain too much.
It was an OK read. The M.C. is always sleeping or fainting and I thought that there was just too much little adventures/risks. There is also too much secrets and last minutes revelations… But otherwise it was good I think.
Liked the magic system, the characters where kinda bland and had no true personality. Seemed like a good relationship but there was no clear thought posses on why they would like each other.
Best book I've ever read 5 stars aren't enough for how good this book is. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fairytales and mystical characters.
This story has lots of magic, as well as some interesting creatures. It's a wonderfully written fantasy tale that makes you want to read the next book.
A great plot with a few twists to keep you guessing, magic, alchemy, wonderful creatures and an outstanding cast of characters plus a cliffhanger that leaves you eager for the next book's adventures. Awesome!
