Willow lives on Florida's Space Coast. When she is not writing or reading, you will find her surfing and watch the dolphins play in the waves of the Atlantic Ocean.
I typically love her books, but this was a let down. I read to escape, and if I want to hear about a virus or lock down or social distancing, I will watch the news. This was too close to home too soon, and the ending was too far-fetched and frankly a bit hopeful to actually having that type of ending happen in real life, which most likely will not happen. I read to move away from the virus, not get thrown into it by a storyline.
A virus that no one knows where it’s from. A kidnapped woman, Harry Hunter on the job and what more can you ask for in a story. Enough suspense to grip you forever.
*However the virus in this book and its symptoms look and sound a lot like Covid-19, this is an imaginary disease that’s even more contagious, deadlier and strikes hardest in children and young people. At the start of the book, no child has survived the infection
This book is set a month after the previous one, where Harry’s wife went into witness protection. He had hardly a few dates with new lover and neighbour Jean when a disastrous virus* struck and the world went into lockdown. During this lockdown, Bryan watches how his neighbour across, Candice, has her door kicked in and is abducted in a car. When the police arrive they find the door unlocked but no sign of a struggle although her keys, purse with credit cards, and her phone are left on the kitchen counter. Reese is the first person that was diagnosed with this unknown virus and patient zero. After a 4-week-long coma, she wakes up in a completely different world. She’s also the first person to recover from the illness and send home as the beds and resources are direly needed for other patients. That night, her door is kicked in and she has to use the fire escape to flee. With nowhere to go, she has only one choice and that’s to ask her brother, police detective Harry Hunter for help. Of course, he doesn’t refuse her, despite having not seen her for over a year. On top of that, his father has fallen ill and can’t be admitted in hospital because of his age. Now they fear that 14-year old Josie might also get sick, with her history of a heart transplant she’s very high risk.
With the story-arc about Josie’s mother finished, we get to meet Harry’s older sister Reese. She was already mentioned in the previous stories, so she doesn’t appear out of the blue. She’s a very complicated woman. After being raped as a teenager, she developed anxiety and schizophrenia. This is handled very empathically and accurate. The symptoms and behaviour are realistically incorporated into the story. Reese is struggling with her mental illness but she’s not set down as a raving lunatic. On top of all this, she now has to deal with being patient zero and the origin of a global pandemic. It’s not something she did deliberately, but she feels a lot of guilt all the same. Despite all her problems, the family is very happy to see her again and will do anything to help and protect the troubled woman. The trust of Harry in his God, his praying and firm belief that God will keep his family safe is misplaced, ignorant and downright dangerous. What about all those people that pray harder and die anyway? I don’t want to insult religious people, but in a crisis like this, it’s better to put your hope on science. There’s too much talk of God in this story anyway. Even when Harry thinks he’s losing his faith, something will happen that makes him remember that God loves him. I have some other issue with this book as well. I don’t know if it’s wise at this moment in time, to use a virus that’s so similar to Corona. I’m afraid that many less intelligent people will take this as the truth and aren’t there already enough conspiracy theories about concerning the real virus? I don’t think that the author wants to do this, but I would have used an illness that has far less common denominators with Covid-19 than this one. The intrigue in this story in itself was interesting and suspenseful. But the ending was rushed and a totally miraculous ‘deus ex machina’. It’s really disappointing to read something like this from Willow Rose. I received a free ARC from the author and this is my honest review
In this final Harry Hunter book, Harry goes through some of the most traumatic personal experiences he has to date.
Written during Covid-19, the theme of this book dealt with an epidemic (not pandemic), with having the city of Miami shut down and its population quarantined. The hospitals overflow with patients, young and old, who have respiratory compromise, and no vaccine or cure available.
This book was written during a time when the world's population was going through something similar, yet this story had a few nuances. Sadly, the emotional factor (with Harry's loved ones being affected) was not relayed to the reader nor was there conclusion on a missing member of Harry's family. Due to Harry's father being a retired pastor, there were also religious references and prayers throughout the series, but this book felt a little heavier with the preaching.
Overall, this was not the best book in the series, and it didn't end in such a way that concluded the series...... so who knows??
This is the 4th book in the Harry Hunter series. It is a story about a pandemic that starts in Miami and overtakes the world. The similarities between the story and what we are living through right now run parallel. It is a good solid story.
In this time of quarantine with the C19 virus this book hit home to all of us. The virus that hit the world (not the Covid19 ) , the pain and seclusion of the characters, though not real, seem so real. A story well told. Another great story by a great author.
This was very good a little odd because we are going through the virus pandemic and the author Willow Rose says that was one of the reason she chose to write it right now. This book brings home reality because we see and know the characters pain. It all comes right from everything we feel and the sadness through these characters. A very good read. The authors seems to wants to tell us she knows how she feels and that we are all in this together therefore we NEVER WALK ALONE. Also to have faith and and trust that we will get through this. Thank, Willow Rose I for one enjoyed it.
WOW! Willow Rose takes today's headlines and writes a very present day thriller! It seems a pandemic virus which seems to affect children and young people the most, as well as the elderly, has struck Miami! You are pulled in from the very first page and taken on a thrill ride! When Candice is locked down in her apartment, she develops a message/phone relationship with Bryan the neighbor in the building across the street. When Bryan sees someone break down the door in Candice's apartment and kidnap her, he calls the police. Enter Detective Harry Hunter who doesn't see any evidence of a struggle, yet something bothers him about this case since her phone, keys and pocketbook are still on the counter. Since Harry is an essential person he still has to work, so he has his father move in with him meanwhile to help take care of Harry's teenage daughter, Josie who recently had a heart transplant and is very vulnerable to this pandemic. When Harry's father comes down with the virus, he quarantines himself to Harry's back room, while Harry puts Josie in her bedroom and tells her she can't leave except to use the bathroom. But, she comes down with the virus and ends up in the hospital in dire straights. Then we have Jean, Harry's next door neighbor who he is madly in love with and is on the front lines of this virus. And we are led to a subversive group called Outraged who want to change the world with Bobby Ray as the head and is famous for his diatribes who just happens to be Candice's brother. To weave more into the story, Reese, Harry's sister who he hasn't seen in a while and who also suffers from schizophrenia and is off her meds shows up at Harry's house and says she is scared because someone tried to kill her. To add insult to injury, she had just come out of a coma and was labeled as Patient zero but deemed cured. With all these different things going on at once, the author most deftly weaves together the pieces and you are surprised with the ending in more than one way. I love this series and can't wait to read more! I received an ARC from the author but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
A virus has hit the world and is spreading quickly leaving many dead in its wake. The virus affects children and young adults more quickly than older adults. The virus is very similar to the Corona-virus that we are dealing with today. The world is on lock-down with the hopes of keeping the virus as contained as possible. The hospital beds are filling up quickly with sick patients.
A young woman Candice is on lock-down in her home where she has been getting to know her next door neighbor Bryan through the window when there is a knock on her front door. Candice looks out the window at Bryan like who could be knocking on the door at a time like this. Bryan sits watching as Candice goes to the door and ask who it is. The door is burst open and Candice is taken away. Bryan calls the police to report his neighbor being kidnapped.
Detective Harry Hunter is assigned to Candice’s case as he is an essential worker and has not been sick. Harry is worried about his daughter Josie getting the virus as she is a high risk. Josie had a heart transplant when she was fifteen years old. Josie is on lock-down as school has been closed. Harry’s dad comes over to stay with Josie and becomes sick with the virus. Harry is worried about Josie becoming sick but can’t send his dad away so he quarantines him in the back room. Josie is given orders to stay in her room.
Harry’s sister Reese wakes up in the hospital after being in a medically induced coma for four weeks. She is told that she had a virus and that she was patient zero. Reese feels so bad and feels as if it is her fault that so many people have lost their lives because of her. Later at home Someone comes into her home and tries to kill her. Reese escapes and goes to Harry’s asking him for help. Reese is attacked at Harry’s but he fights them off and they get away.
Who is trying to kill Reese and why? Who kidnapped Candice and why? Where did the virus come from? Is it man made? Did it come from nature? The answers to these questions and more can be found in Never Walk Alone the fourth book in the Hunter Mystery Series.
Never Walk Alone is the fourth book in the Hunter Mystery Series and I would have to say that it is my favorite by far. Never Walk Alone is filled with mystery and suspense from the very beginning. Once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down until I had read the whole thing. I liked that we got the story from different points of view. I liked being introduced to all the characters and learning how all their lives eventually intertwined. I enjoyed reading a story so close to what we are living now even though I didn’t enjoy the results that the story brought to some. A world filled with a virus/monster that is taking so many lives leaving only heartache in its place. Never Walk Alone has many of the same questions that I have asked myself pertaining to our situation today.
I highly recommend Never Walk Alone to all mystery, suspense and thriller fans. One click your copy of Never Walk Alone today!
Book Title: Never Walk Alone Author: Willow Rose Narrator: Christopher Romance Series: Harry Hunter Mystery #4 Publisher: Buoy Media, LLC Genre: Mystery Thriller Audiobook Pub Date was: July 31 2020 My Rating: 3.4 Stars Pages: 210
I picked this up because I like Willow Rose. I have read several of her stories and enjoyed them
I had no idea what this was about. It. of course, is a lot like the Covid 19 pandemic that shut down the world. This was published July 2020 which means it was written BEFORE we all had any idea that there would soon be a worldwide lockdown very close to what was happening in this story. . The story is about an imaginary virus that a virus that originated in Miami. This virus is more deadly in children and young people
Detective Harry Hunter is investigating the kidnapping of a woman. Soon, he wonders if the virus is connected to the missing woman. At the same time, his sister Reese who has struggled with mental illness shows up after they have not seen each other in a year. It appears Reese knows more about the virus than she lets on.
As he digs deeper into the strange mystery, he realizes his sister's life is in great danger, and so is his as his father got the virus and he is fearful his daughter is next.
At first this was hard to read and it was sooo close to what we experienced- but I love Willow Rose as well as Harry Hunter- So I hung in!!
I have to say this was my least favorite Harry Hunter book although it was good. A virus hit Miami and was unleashed worldwide. Harry's sister shows up on his doorstep. She was told that she was patient zero. She had been put into an induced coma for 4 weeks and she was the first one to survive. When she was discharged from the hospital she was very weak but her hospital bed was needed. She didn't know what all had happened; it was a very different world now and she was scared and confused. She is schizophrenic and off her meds so she had great difficulty telling the difference between reality and her delusions.
Harry had no symptoms so he continued to work and got a case of an apparent kidnapping. Despite precautions and quarantine, Harry's father gets sick and then Josie, his daughter who is then hospitalized.
The plot takes several turns and his kidnapping case becomes intertwined with his quest to find the culprit behind the virus. It seemed that the ending was too rushed. In the space of a couple of chapters, they catch the bad guy, a vaccine is found, they open up the hospital, all Harry's family is safe and he proposes marriage.
I know that the author likes to use true stories in her books and I appreciate that; however, this time I didn't. When the news and social media is full of Corona virus "news", I read to escape it. It was just too soon IMHO. I received an ARC from the author and this is my voluntary review.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This story is roughly similar to what we find ourselves in at this moment in time but the virus is different and how it got released into the said area and the rate of infection. Because of lockdown, a friendly neighbour sees his neighbour who has been having a virtual relationship with gets kidnapped and calls the police. Harry Hunter is thrown into this case and also for him his sister turns up who he has not seen for some time, and she is actually the carrier of this virus, she has mental issues and is not sure whether she is sick all she remembers is being in the hospital and them saying she is cured and released. The virus is around and Harry's father has moved in to look after his daughter, but both get the virus and like all contagions you isolate, including Harry, but nothing is at it seems and needs to get to the bottom of this and at the same time Harry is worried about his father and his daughter who is vulnerable because of previous heart surgery has gone into hospital and nobody allowed in, so she is all alone. It has happened but nobody knows about how our virus got into the atmosphere, but in this novel it is slapdash security. Good penmanship and how any contagion can cause devastation not only in one country but the world.
Where do I start? Harry Hunter stars in this 4th book that literally took my breath away. It is about Covid-19 and the current state of our world. Of course names changed and the target age for most deaths was children. It went through how people couldn’t even say goodbye to their loved ones and how some brave nurses used FaceTime to let some say goodbye. Thus book may change some facts, but the social distancing, masks, quarantine are only too real for the world in our present. As always Harry is just the man! He saves everyone, gets the bad guys, touches a few lives & hearts... His daughter Josie, dad, & Jean are all back but socially distant since someone has the virus. Harry is one of my favorite characters. I have now officially read all the Willow Rose books available. She and R.D. Brady are my absolute favorite authors. They way the characters are so richly written they come off the pages to life. If I could give 10 stars I would! Will there be another Harry Hunter #5? Hopefully fas some series has many many books. Well done Ms, Rose. Yet another winner!
I really love a story with a happy ending; mind you I'm not saying this is one. Detective Harry Hunter and his family and friends have been through Hell several times over. Why does Amazon not recognize the word Hell or hell??? He has discovered his wife who has been semi comatose for three years is a criminal of the worst kind and she is put into the witness protection program. He can't have the woman he really loves. His daughter has to have a new heart at fourteen. His house is shot to smithereens by someone he thought was his friend. Now deadly virus is unleashed and his daughter and his father have it while the woman he loves is fighting it as an RN at the hospital where he's not allowed to see his daughter who is not expected to live. To top it all off his schizophrenic sister is patient zero and has lost her baby and doesn't know where to look for her. If this is not Hell I don't know what your description of Hell is. You really should read this mystery series.
This is a story about today's headlines. A pandemic has the world in lockdown. A mystery virus that started in Miami. Harry's sister shows up at his house. He hasn't seen her in a year. She gets sick and has to go to the hospital. She is the first one. More and more people are sick and are hospitalized. Not long after that his father gets sick. He must be taken care of at home because there isn't any more room in any of the Miami hospitals. Then Harry's daughter gets sick. She has a heart condition and must get into a hospital. Will she survive? Harry's sister has no memories. She doesn't know what happened. Will she get her memories back? Did she have something to do with the virus? Did she spread it to other people? How did she get it? This story will hook you in from the start and not let go until the end. I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.
This really could have come out of a current newspaper! Of course it is not exactly like what is going on-but close enough to make you shiver!! Hunter's Dad comes down with the virus--then his sister shows up at his door after a year. She is schizophrenic and is positive that someone stole her baby. Not only that but she was the very first one who came down with the virus and started the pandemic!!
Hunter and his daughter were under quarantine-but Hunter had to get to the bottom of his sister's statements! There are lots of twists and turns---then his daughter comes down with the virus.
Will Al be able to help him figure it all out--will his Dad get better--what about his daughter?
Jean who is Hunter's girlfriend is busy in the hospital-she is a nurse.
When all is kind of over Hunter makes a decision and his daughter agrees! You will have to read until the end to find out what---and I will bet you won't be able to stop reading until the very last word!!
This was a fast-paced, addictive, suspenseful read, that I found I did not want to put down! Rose makes the story feel so modern, current and identifiable by anchoring the plot in events that reflect something of what we are experiencing, now, with the viral pandemic that has held our nation (and so many others) hostage for the past few months. A lot of authors have recently created stories based around the pandemic sweeping through the globe and the feelings of fear and anxiety it has visited on the population, but I think Rose has most convincingly NAILED IT! When you combine that along with the elements of intrigue, danger and suspense, the outcome can only be one thing: Winner! Winner! Viral Pandemic Mystery Thriller!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
Harry is like the rest of us dealing with this ready virus and social distancing. His sister Reese was the first one to get the Florida Flu, hence she was patient zero. She just thought she was sick not realising until it was to late that she killed several people who came in contact with her. Miraculously she survived, but now their dad has it as well as Josie. With Josie's heart transplant she is taken to the hospital where several children have lost their lives. Now it's up to Hunter to figure out how and why all of this has started, as well as keep his faith in God. Thank you Willow for keeping us entertained as well as letting us know that you and your family are safe.
Whoa Willow! Freaky, perfect timing for this Harry Hunter mystery! It was a familiar creepy this time which almost made it worse. Florida Flu has hit and is killing everyone it touches. The whole world is on lockdown to try to slow the progress of the virus. Patient zero has finally woke up from her coma and is sent home so they can use her bed for someone else. She can't remember anything except getting sick. Then she gets home and realizes her baby is missing. She talks Harry into helping her find her baby and the truth of how the virus got released is unraveled step by twisted step. In true Willow fashion, you never know what to expect next and that is exactly how I like it!
As a pandemic ravages Harry’s family, his faith leads him to doggedly look for answers. This book covers the horrors and challenges of a pandemic, a very timely subject. Harry can’t get medical treatment for his father, he can’t see Josie in the hospital and doesn’t even have info on her condition and, due to social distancing, he can’t even hug or kiss Jean for comfort. Harry’s sense of helplessness grows, and he struggles to hold fast to his faith. He concentrates instead on the when, where, who and why of the pandemic. He uncovers some related crimes in the process. As always, Harrys investigations are pulse-pounding, and this one reflects the horror and desperation caused by an illness that threatens the world. Another “unputdownable” book by Willow Rose!
Another great Harry Hunter book. The world is in the midst of a pandemic. Much of what we're experiencing right now is included in the book. But Harry is still working. A woman is kidnapped. Harry's sister turns out to be patient number 1 and she's recovered from the virus, but she's had psychological problems for years and she's not sure what happened to her before she got sick, but memories are coming back.
This is a complicated story, but Harry unravels it, even though his daughter and his father are both sick. The ending is a bit too simplistic but it does reflect some of our reality and conspiracty theories that exist today.
A global pandemic has the world on lock down, but Harry is hard at work looking for a missing woman. After nearly a year since he last saw her, Harry's sister appears on his door step. After talking to her Harry realizes that she may know more about the virus, and where it came from, than she is willing to admit.
Wow, action packed, and exciting mystery that resembles real world current events. I love Harry Hunter, but dang, this man just keeps taking hits where his family is concerned. I was so happy that Harry and the rest of these wonderful characters seem to getting a happily ever after, finally.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
In a well-planned and well-written spinoff from the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Rose sets the origin of a mystery virus in southern Florida. A kidnapping case is assigned to Harry, his sister shows up after not being seen for over a year, and the virus begins to affect his family. As the kidnapping investigation proceeds, it appears the random events are somehow related and they are in grave danger. Ms. Rose is a master at building suspense, holding the reader breathlessly anticipating the answer to the mystery. I could not stop reading this one – I finished it in one sitting. I received an advance copy of this book, but I also bought it, to support this great author.
Practically ripped from today’s headlines, with a bit of artistic license, this most recent book in the series is non-stop action and suspense. Hard to put down the story is well written and the mystery well plotted.
Miami is ground zero for a deadly virus impacting the world. Everyone is on lockdown but when a neighbor sees someone abducted he reports it and Harry is in the thick of trying to find the missing woman, help his psychologically fragile sister, and caring for his daughter and dad.
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.
Liked that Harry and his family are enduring lockdown, a feeling that we all recognize. His sister, father and daughter are in need of his help and he is pulled this way and that as he tries to provide support. This was a different facet of Harry and his world. Twists, that cropped up, increased the tension and blindsided me. This book is fiction but it made me think about how interconnected we all are. The characters leapt off the pages and became real. It was riveting reading.
I am a huge Willow Rose fan but this one just seemed all wrong. I, for one like to read for an escape from the everyday life stressors and this one certainly didn't allow me the escape I so crave. It was a giant billboard of a reminder that I can't safely leave the safety of my house. I am one of those who falls into the many "seriously at risk" categories. Another downfall to this book was the rushed feel and poor editing. But I will continue to follow my Queen of Scream.
I went to bed early because I wasn't feeling well but took one of my Kindles with me "to put me to sleep". Instead, I ended up reading this whole book. It is a parallel to what we are experiencing now with Covid19, only called the "Florida Flu". Turns out Patient Zero (or the first person ever to have this virus) was Harry Hunter's sister. Being a fan of the Harry Hunter series, I've been looking forward to Book 4, having no idea what it was about. Good thinking, Willow Rose, to write this now!
I loved the newest instalment in the Harry Hunter series. Another fast paced, action packed mystery. A pandemic has hit Florida and Harry's family are affected. His dad is sick and he fears for His daughter,Jasmine, who has a heart condition. meanwhile, Harry has a kidnapping case. His sister turns up unexpectedly and has more problems for Harry to solve. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.
