This manga is certifiably insane. After judging humanity's continuing existence to be an abhorrent blight in the fabric of the universe, the gods of all pantheons delivered their judgment of extinction. That was the plan, until a lone Valkyrie proposed a fighting tournament between 13 gods and 13 human champions. Despite what the gods think, it isn't as lopsided as it seems.
This is a concept that can only executed perfectly with a shonen battle manga. This is the ultimate war of men and gods. Although it eschews character development and other necessary plot devices, the artwork is amazing. You can actually almost feel the impact of Mjolnir as it renders a Jotun's body into component molecules.
This is a read where you can leave you thinking behind and just enjoy the brutality of it.

A manga where the gods decide that they will eliminate mankind. With the help of a Valkyrie, humankind gets a fighting chance. The art is well done and the story is okay. Among the matches you will get to see are:

The art is so beautifully detailed. And Gods and humans fighting is such a good idea.
The first one is good, but through the series, there are some clever twists, that make it great.

Hoy os traigo la reseña del primer volumen del manga «The Legend of Lü Bu Fengxian», spin off centrado en el primer einherjar que participó en el Ragnarok. Dicho esto, empezamos:
🐲El volumen arranca introduciéndonos a la lógica de la obra, ubicándonos en los últimos años previos a la China dividida en los reinos de Wu, Wei y Shu mediante la introducción de los principales líderes políticos y militares.
Empero, se destaca a Lü Bu Fengxian como un dios de la guerra por encima de ellos en respuesta de quién era el hombre más fuerte de China. El general volador dejaría antes de partir al cielo siete leyendas que serán relatadas en este título.
🐲Acto seguido pasamos a Xuzhou en el año 196, donde conocemos a Chen Gong Gontai, el estratega principal del ejército del futuro einherjar, quien es emboscado en su huida por el ejército de Ji Ling.
La situación de sitio del castillo de Xiapi nos lleva a la primera hazaña presentada por parte del protagonista, quien a modo de flecha utiliza un colosal estandarte para decidir la histórica disputa entre Liu Bei y Yuan Shu, cuyo ejército perdió las ganas de combatir tras la salvaje ejecución del lacayo que quería amañar la apuesta de tintes religiosos.
🐲En los últimos capítulos la trama se enfoca al reclutamiento de Lü Bu a las órdenes de Dong Zhuo, el líder del estado de Han.
Por boca de su Wu Qiong Deyu, nos enteramos de que el general volador es la última pieza que Zhuo necesita para dominar China, puesto que ya posee al anormal caballo «Liebre Roja» y tiene al emperador Xian como un títere.
Tras ser introducidos al pasado del tirano, este es acompañado por su asistente a buscar a Lü Bu, a quien logra persuadir ofreciéndole un rival a la altura, quien no es más que Sun Wai Jentai, el tigre de Jian Dong.
🌸Conclusión: El clímax de este volumen cierra la lógica que rige tanto al protagonista como a la trama. Todo se reduce a perseguir ambiciones personales.

This is a great manga because of its beautiful illustrations, great character design and memorable fights. SW has a beautiful way of showing flashbacks and characters back stories without interrupting the flow of the fight and that is extremely impressive. Although I give this manga tons of praise there are still some negatives. Some fights take 100s of pages and are stretched out and others finish in barely one chapter and this is pretty ridiculous especially because some of the most hyped and best fights finished way too quickly. Though all the humans in SW have a proper backstory none of the gods nor Valkyries have backstories or even a known history, this doesn’t make sense as all the humans only appear once which is in a fight or for future monologues. There are way too many paragraphs this won’t matter to experienced manga readers but for beginners it’s pretty confusing to know which line to start on a panel. Consistency with the speed of the plot is going is confusing as in one half all the introductions are finished in 2 chapters but sometimes it takes 5 chapters to introduce one person and there are some chapters that dedicate themselves to giving the most useless information that doesn’t help further the plot. Finally the last 2 complaints are filler and plot holes, why is there a demon in the realm of gods or how does someone become a Valkyrie, the amount of filler is small compared to larger mana series but it still exists.

Avec La légende de Lü Bu, Valkyrie Apocalypse s’offre un spin-off entièrement consacré à l’un de ses combattants les plus marquants. Avant d’affronter les dieux lors du Ragnarök, Lü Bu était déjà une légende vivante en Chine. Ce premier tome nous plonge au cœur de la guerre des Trois Royaumes, dans un monde brutal et sanglant, où les armées s’affrontent pour le pouvoir suprême. Mais Lü Bu, lui, ne se bat pas pour régner, ni pour la richesse ou la reconnaissance. Ce manga propose donc une entrée directe dans l’esprit d’un guerrier hors norme, guidé par une seule obsession : trouver enfin un adversaire capable de lui tenir tête.
Dans ce premier tome, l’histoire met avant tout en avant la quête du combat absolu. Lü Bu est présenté comme un homme déjà arrivé au sommet : il est craint, admiré, invincible. Contrairement aux autres chefs de guerre, il ne cherche ni à diriger un royaume ni à rallier des foules par ambition. Ceux qui le suivent le font parce qu’ils croient en lui, mais lui reste profondément solitaire. Cette solitude est d’ailleurs l’un des thèmes les plus marquants du volume : plus Lü Bu est fort, plus il est isolé. Sa puissance le coupe des autres hommes, qui ne sont pour lui que des obstacles ou des adversaires trop faibles. Le manga insiste beaucoup sur ce paradoxe : être le plus fort signifie ne jamais pouvoir se battre sérieusement. Il n’y a pas, à proprement parler, une grande évolution psychologique dans ce premier tome, mais plutôt une installation du personnage. Lü Bu est figé dans son rôle de guerrier absolu, presque inhumain, mû par un désir simple mais dévorant. À travers les combats spectaculaires et excessifs, on comprend que ce qui l’anime n’est pas la haine ni la cruauté, mais une forme de frustration permanente : celle de ne jamais trouver quelqu’un capable de lui offrir un combat à la hauteur de son existence. Les dessins de Takeo Ono renforcent cette impression avec un trait très dynamique, brutal, presque sauvage, qui rend chaque affrontement démesuré et souligne la violence de l’époque.
Ce premier tome pose des bases solides et percutantes pour ce spin-off. Plus qu’un simple manga de combats, il dresse le portrait d’un guerrier prisonnier de sa propre puissance, condamné à chercher sans cesse un adversaire capable de lui rendre le frisson du danger. Lü Bu impressionne autant qu’il intrigue : invincible, solitaire, presque détaché du monde des hommes. [Read up to Chapter 46: Accumulation]
Man, I love the plot so much but I can also see people (probably fanatics or overly religious) trying to 'cancel' this manga series. Usually, stories about Gods vs Humans can be executed terribly but in the case of this series, the execution is done flawlessly to me. The battles are unpredictable and not all Gods are portrayed as ruthless and merciless, and the same can be said about the Human characters. Each notable characters are built up beautifully and the combat styles are very symbolic. It is difficult to pick a side, but I am very intrigued to see how this ends. I would highly recommend this to fans of Neil Gaiman's Good Omens.

A spin off of record of ragnarok, focusing on the first human champion.
This was OK, I'm not sure I got into it as much as I did the main event. This was more just a retelling of Lu Bu's life before ragnarok, and therefore had no real stakes or excitement or much to do with the main series other than it being this version of Lu Bu, which I didn't know a whole lot about before reading this series.
Unsure if I'll continue with this spin off yet, or if I'll just focus on the main story for now.

FULL SERIES REVIEW/RATING
I love religion and culture, and especially good fights. This manga is such a good and fun read! it really keeps me occupied reading chapter after chapter. The characters have way different designs than one would imagine, but it works out well once you're in the story. This story isn't nessecarily historically/mythologically/theologically correct to the characters, but thats part of the fun!
You recognize the characters, but they come with curious/unsuspected personalities etc.

The premise is really good and I'm enjoying it as a fun read, even if I am not a huge fan of "combat-centred" plots.

pretty standard big-fight manga. the backstories for the various fighters are interesting, if nothing else, but Baki this isn't. The Netflix adaptation is going pretty well, though.

Un premier volume où l’on entre directement dans le vif du sujet.
Étant fan de Valkyrie Apocalypse il était évident que j’allais me jeter sur le premier tome de ce spin off centré sur le sensationnel Lü Bu. Je trouve d’ailleurs que c’est un super concept de faire ce type de spin off sur les personnages.
Le manga nous transporte dans une Chine en guerre pendant l’époque des Trois Royaumes. C’est d’ailleurs une période de l’histoire de Chine que j’aime particulièrement.
J’ai adoré les détails sur les personnages et la narration du récit. J’ai dévoré très rapidement ce tome très introductif qui nous présente les principaux protagonistes de cette histoire.
Les dessins sont juste incroyables et super détaillés : j’adore.
J’ai hâte de lire la suite !
