The impact of the sucker punch sent Louvette to the ground hard. Pain flared across her cheek as it split. The effects of her adrenaline paused as her mother’s words of warning replayed in her mind: Make this school last until graduation. She knew this would break her mother’s heart.
A shout that did not come from her mother took her back to present reality. She hadn’t started this fight, but she knew she wasn’t going to let her butt get stomped, either.
She jumped up. Her fist balled as a blonde pixie of a girl came at her. Louvette dodged her this time and swung her fist straight into the girl’s nose. A solid crunch sounded as her attack landed. Her momentary satisfaction was thrown off along with her balance as the girls fell to the ground.
A large arm separated them apart as the coach finally arrived to do his job. They continued to kick at each other, looking like barrel monkeys hanging off a barrel.
“Break it up! Lynskey and Mallory, report to the principal’s office immediately,” snapped Coach No Clue. No clue what his name was because she hadn’t been in his class or let alone the whole school of Farwell long enough to learn it.
She was more dragged down the hallway toward the principal’s office than reported to it.
The Queen B, otherwise known as Tiffany Mallory, began to beg immediately, spawning an eye roll from Louvette. She was a whiny beggar. Just one of many B words that could describe her to a T, but it was the nicest one that Louvette could think of.
Her pleading stopped as they arrived at the door of the principal’s office. They locked eyes for a second, hatred flaring toward each other.
“I’m first. I’m on my third offense and I’m not waiting all day for you to get a slap on the wrist,” Louvette said to Tiffany as she darted past her into the office. The only thing that stopped her from slamming the door in the B’s face was the creature on the other side of the door.
I'm going to be completely honest and say I didn't have very high expectations for this book. However, I am so glad Grimes proved me wrong! While there were a few downsides to WINTER'S WOLF, I can confidently say that there is an incredible amount of potential in this book, and with a bit more polishing, it could be sitting center-shelf in Barnes and Noble.
-Characters-
Sassy. The biggest word I would use to describe Louvette's character. I really enjoyed reading this novel from her perspective, learning about Whitefish through her eyes. The relationship she and her mother have is a deep friendship, almost, because of the pain their little family had been put through. She was a bit unpredictable in the beginning, with starting fistfights and judging Cara, only to be a bit more girly in the next sentence. I would have liked a bit more development with both her and Cara's relationship: Louvette could have been more walled-off to Cara who would then break down those walls with her unconditional friendship.
-Plot/Magic System-
By far my most favorite aspect of this novel would be the magic system. While it revolves solely around Lupine's and other animal species as well as witches (that I hope to see in book two), there is so much keen description of how they came to be, and the promise of future magical creatures that I can't help but sit on the edge of my seat for book two! The plot was definitely interesting, but I would have liked more consistency with the antagonist. He only really revealed himself as said role at the very end, which isn't a problem, but there weren't enough mentions of his character that I would have felt anything at the revelation. Sure, he was creepy, but if Louvette had had more interactions, that would have solidified him in my mind as someone with an actual role in the story.
-Romance-
I love Arsen. Usually, in indie books the vulnerability between two characters in a relationship is missed. But when Louvette felt overly stressed with her new identity, I like how she knew there was always someone to run to that would have her back. Typically, I enjoy more of a slow-burn in relationships. While that was absent here, I did enjoy reading their moments. What would have been better, in my opinion, for building up the momentum between them would be to have Louvette distrust him completely at first. In the beginning, she had struck me as the walled-off character, but that wasn't very consistent with her more girlish personality later on.
-Writing-
This is what mainly lowered my review to 3.5 instead of 5 stars, and what needed the most polishing. The pacing felt too choppy, though it developed as Grimes wrote (one of my favorite things to see in books is the development of an author's writing). There was description that I really really thought was well done, only it was put in a way that made it choppy, or it just didn't seem to lead well with the pacing. While WINTER'S WOLF could use some more line edits, I didn't feel the sentences took away from the book too much until the climax, when the pacing should be different to invoke the suspense.
-Conclusion-
Worth the read! I haven't read the Twilight series, but the magic system (minus vampires) is very similar, and I think fans of that series will enjoy the nice escape offered by WINTER'S WOLF.
I was not expecting how much I loved this story! It brought back all my feelings and love for the paranormal world. It gives me some "Linger" vibes (Maggie Stiefvater) however it has much more action and the characters are super easy to connect with. Louvette's relationship with her mother and her best-friend (Cara) is so well portrayed, I found myself giggling with them at their playful jokes and fun times, Cara was definitely my favorite character, I was eager to read more about her. Also could this book make me anymore hungry? I found myself salivating at how well the author described the delicious meals that Louvette and her mother shared (as a wolf shifter she requires a lot of energy). I loved the romance in this story, it was fluid and easy to fall in love alongside the characters. However at times the turn of events and the culprits seems a bit predictable, the shape-shifter story could have been introduced to Louvette in a more suspenseful way (her seeing a wolf outside her house watching her etc) instead of a question & answer session. I was AMAZED at how well the author described the moments when she is her wolf, I could vividly imagine her mind as a wolf, blurry in the background and focused on instincts. I absolutely loved when she was wolf.
Some Spoilers below! ****
I am very excited to read book 2, I hope it will give more of a background story to Emily Bonesteel as well to Hollows and his motives which I'm super curious about. I am also excited to read more about the pack life, how they behave, will they accept Louvette into their pack? I also hope to find out more about other packs and why they would want to steal her? For marriage? for a more pure blood line? All these questions make me super interested and eager for book 2!
This is the story of Louvette who's been very troublesome and as a result she's getting kicked out of several schools. One day a lawyer shows up and tells them that she's in the will of her absent grandfather who left them his house and everything else, so they move out and go to this small town. A small town where she can have a new start, a chance to change her life, but what happens when secrets come to the surface and some extraordinary things start to occur?
My thoughts about this book are very mixed. On one hand, I really enjoyed the plot. I thought that it was unique and refreshing and I loved all the new information and how it went against the normal werewolf things we know and added some new elements. I really liked the world building that this author created. It reminded me of Teen Wolf, but with a heroine instead and with more unique powers. These were my favorite parts of the story.
What I didn't enjoy as much was the writing, because it seemed 'immature' to me. The dialogues were all over the place and sometimes things were passed so fast and like nothing big happened, when it was a crucial moment for our heroine. Maybe if I had read this book when I was younger I would have enjoyed it much more, but at the time being I could tell that this was a debut and that the author didn't have much experience. But that's totally normal and we grow and I'm sure that the next books will be much better and I can't wait to read the next books in the Cursed series.
Thank you to the author and MMB tours for the copy and the chance to read and review this one.
. This ends on a soft cliffhanger. So I am about to start the sequel, as I quite enjoyed the first book. Unfortunately the romance was uninspiring. But there was lots of other things I liked about the story.
Louvette is a 17 year old girl, raised by her single mother, Sarah. They have spent the last 17 years moving from town to town across the southern US, until Louvette learns that she is the heir to a grandfather she never knew... and he was murdered. So they travel to a small town in Montana where her grandfather was a town founder along with a 3 other families. Once there, Louvette discovers that she isn't as human as she thought...
Louvette's a bit of a special snowflake, but she's also practical and level headed. I loved her relationship with her mother. Her relationship with the boy and her girlfriend didn't ring as true. I liked the world building, which was a little different from other shifter stories. The story is full of mysteries like who murdered her grandfather and what happened to her father. There's also a suggestion of political maneuvering to come. And plenty of shady characters.
To be honest, it's pretty obvious what happened to her father about halfway in, but the author intended that and it will be interesting how it plays out in the next book.
Thank you for trying to be original and setting yourself up to be different from the rest of the wolf shifter books out in the world. The pieces I noticed that were unique were the following: the main character, Louvette, was the only girl who could shift into a Lupine (wolf) ever; the wolves had unique powers (Fire, water, future-telling, illusions, etc.); I also really liked how they delved into the history of shifting (blood magic) and the other animals that could be shifted into as well; and finally I noticed that the shifters, when in wolf form, were carnivorous (poor deer!) - that was a new and exciting element to me when it comes to shifter books! So good for you!!
Now the critical stuff.
The beginning started off REALLY strong. I was intrigued. Lou got kicked out of school—she had so much aggression built up, there was a death (the whodunnit mystery really interested me), and then we got to meet the bad boy wolf boy, Arsen (who was the book’s saving grace, in my opinion).
But what happened to you? Your writing got lazy, your story got repetitive, and nothing ever got resolved in the end. Yes, we found out who the killer of the rogue grandfather was but: 1. We still don’t know if Declan (Lou’s father) is dead or not 2. There was no justice served for the killer (the reveal was lackluster and Lou was like, “oh? You’re the killer? That sucks). 3. WHY IS SHE STILL LETTING THE KILLER COME NEAR HER MOM AND NOT TELLING HER MOM ABOUT IT!? (That part really disturbs me.)
I think I just wanted so much more out of this book because I really wanted a wolf shifter book to pull me out of my PNR rut since The Awakened Series by Amanda Carol. I was rooting for this book, but in the end, it just didn’t do it for me.
Thank you to the publisher, the author, and MMTB Book Tour for inviting me on this reading journey in exchange for an honest review.
Sincerely, Brad
P.S. Final rating for me is a 2.5, but I rounded it up to a 3 ⭐️ because I was curious as to how the series is going to end.
Moving from one school to other wasn't something new for Louvette Lynske all thanks to her high temper. Her mother Sarah Lynske is seriously disappointed knowing her daughter records that she'll face hard time to get up into any school. Being a single mother with no other support feels like failing to her.
Louvette never got any chance to have a glimpse of her father or other family members ever in her life until one a family lawyer & introducing himself as close friend to her father announces that her grandfather was murdered few weeks ago & had left a good amount of inheritance for her as few days prior her birth her father went missing & was never found.
Reaching to her real hometown had been a completely different experience as this town was kind of small and snow fall happens to be here for real, which she loves. Her family house was so big that her own room was bigger than the flats she'd lived in which all the facilities for a relaxed life.
One day while hanging out with her mother she crosses her path with a boy, Arsen whose eyes changes colours & something inside her just shakes very hard as if sth inside her is being challenged. Soon she's admitted into a private school where she again gets eye contact with the same boy & same thing happens again.
She gets dragged by the boy to just to find out she isn't a normal girl, she is also a Lupine(kind of werewolf) & she must keep it a secret. Although she is irritated with the guy's behaviour & too much of secrets, she needs to find out about her father & grandfather & also it's hard to main distance fro the guy as he's really charming.
The book overall was really a good read. Just that I expected it to be a high fantasy but it was more of a light read fantasy with teenager romance. Also I loved some new concepts introduced with creatures unlike just copy pasting the theories from old books.
Winter’s Wolf is the first book in The Cursed series and debut novel for Lou Grimes. This story sets the series off to a great start- and is definitely a series I will be following closely. The book is so much more than just a paranormal young adult werewolf story- there is a bit of drama, murder, mystery, suspense, action, adventure, the paranormal, shifters/werewolves, self-discovery, family, friendship, romance, and more. The world building is richly detailed, and Lou Grimes has a very descriptive and dynamic style to her writing. If this book is anything to go by, the rest of the series is set to be great. And did I mention….. WEREWOLVES!!! #winning #youhadmeatwerewolf Can’t wait to see what happens from here.
Winter’s Wolf is a YA paranormal and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I was pulled in from the beginning and was quickly turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next. I really liked the main character, Louvette, my only issue is that she is too quick to be “okay” with everything that is happening. I don’t know about you but if a person I didn’t know dug their claws into my arm, giving me cuts so deep that I should have had stitches, I would not be OK! It’s been awhile since I’ve read a werewolf book and overall it was good, full of action, suspense, mystery and young love. I’m really looking forward to book 2!
What an awesome book. I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend. Louvette is this teenage girl who continually gets kicked out of schools for getting into fights which causes her and her mother to live around a lot. The 2 ladies are just about to pack up and leave town when a man named Thomas Hollows shows up to tell her that her grandfather recently was murdered and has left everything to her. Her and her mom move up to Montana where she now has a new name, and finally a place to call home. She soon meets up with this boy named Arsen and he explains to her that she is a Lupine (werewolf) and is the only female of her kind. From then on it’s trying to find her way and to make sure she stays safe since she is the only one left of her family.
Winter’s Wolf is the first book in The Cursed series.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I got this book, but it turned out to be pretty good. The story concept is interesting and I enjoyed the characters. The author does a good job of building suspense so it keeps you reading. There are a few places where the story breaks down a bit, but I think this series has promise.
One of the things that caught me in this book are the names of the characters. I don’t know why it stood out, but the names really fit this book well.
This book is about people who can change into wolf form but its much more then that. It talks of teen romance and strong friendships and family bonds. I do not usually read this genre often. However, I was not disappointed with this book at all. It was great!!! This is a new author and I have to say her first book turned out fantastic. I loved the fact that it had a little bit of different genres in it. There was a little thriller, action, a lot of paranormal and romance. This is a Young Adult book but it is great for adults as well. I felt that the romance was perfect for the age of the girl. I also enjoyed the fact that Louvette played a strong female lead. This book will be part of a series and I look forward to reading the next book. I highly recommend this book!!!!
I’ve been reading a lot of paranormal books lately and it’s made me realize that I’m not really sure why I stopped reading them for so long. There’s just something about a great paranormal book, especially if there are werewolves involved. I particularly loved how Winter’s Wolf had a lot of romance but still managed to also fit in a bunch of action and even a hint of some thriller thrown in.
I think the thing I liked best about this book was that it reminded me a lot of old ya. And while I love all of the recent new ya releases, sometimes I miss that easy reading feel that I always felt from ya books years back. I mean, there was still all of the drama and angst as anything revolving around teenagers entails but the stories were just that, stories. And Winter’s Wolf took me back to that and I was able to just sit down and enjoy the story. And honestly, given everything going on in the world right now, that’s kind of what I want in my books. A great story that I can fall into and want to binge because it takes my mind off of everything.
I really enjoyed the characters and the romance. It was very typical of what you expect from ya books and I love that! One thing I didn’t expect from this story, given that it is a paranormal book, was the world building. And I’m definitely not complaining, I mean it’s my favorite thing in books honestly. And it’s also something that I’ve found seriously lacking in the past few books I’ve read. So it was such a nice surprise to find it done so well in this book!
You can view my full review on my blog! I also post about a lot of different types of books!
What I Loved: I loved the paranormal aspects of this story! The shape-shifting was fun, and I liked that we get to learn about the world with the Louvette because it’s all new to her as well!
How I Felt: This is a debut story for author Lou Grimes, and I think it is going to be one that people easily fall in love with! And don’t worry, it’s a series, so you can expect more greatness to come!
The plot was so intriguing! Louvette and her mother inherit land in Montana and move from their old home into this new place, grateful for the opportunity to escape their old lives. Louvette meets Arsen who tells her that she is a Lupine, which is a werewolf, and happens to be the only female left!
The characters were so wonderful! Louvette is the main character in the story, and she was easy to connect with. Her experiences as she learns more and more about who she is were described so well, I felt like I was right there with her! I really liked Cara as well. She had this great playful and funny attitude that made me just want to be friends with her!
The mixture of genres that this story goes through is amazing! It’s obviously paranormal with the werewolves, but there are a lot of other things happening. There’s a lovely romance that felt just right. There’s also some murder/mystery stuff that happens that gives you a great sense of suspense and some awesome action moments!
Overall, I was really impressed with this story, and absolutely loved it!
To Read or Not To Read: I would recommend Winter’s Wolf to readers that enjoy stories with a strong mix of fantasy beings and romance!
I was provided a gifted copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.
Louvette has been kicked out of many schools for fighting. She doesn't start the fights, but she isn't going to be anyone's punching bag. After getting kicked out of the most recent school, an attorney arrives saying that she is the beneficiary of her grandfather's estate since her father is presumed dead. Louvette has never met or even known the name of her father or grandfather, as her mother does not talk about them at all. Once they move into the Blackwood mansion (which is now her new last name thanks to stipulations of the will), Louvette's life changes in ways she never thought of. She has vivid dreams that she can't seem to shake. She caught the attention of Arsen on her first day in town, and he is determined to guide her through all these changes. As she learns more about her past, Louvette must decide who she can trust and who she can't. The story ends on a bit of a cliffhanger...as there are many questions that have no answers yet.
I found myself drawn into the story and want to read the next book when it comes out to get more of the story. I enjoyed watching Louvette learn about her past and who she really is. Her friendship with Cara is great to read and her relationship with Arsen is full of potential. Like I said, I enjoyed the story and am looking forward to the next book.
I really enjoyed this story. Its full of secrets and adventure.
Louvette has always been seen as a trouble maker. She has been kicked out of more schools that you can think of and she thinks everything is lost.
Until Thomas Hallows arrives and explains to Louvette and her mum Sarah that her grandfather has passed and it has left Louvette the soul heir to the Blackwood fortune.
After her father abandoned them Sarah wanted nothing more to do with the family however this new start is just what they needed so they head there.
When they get there Louvette discovers that her dad's side of the family holds a lot of secrets. The main on being her being a Lupin. With the help of her boyfriend Arsen who is also a wolf shifter she learns how to control her wolf and to shift.
Things start to look up for her until people start trying to hunt her down. Can she escape the people trying to find her? Can she solve the mystery of her dad's disappearance and her grandfathers murder? And is everyone who seems out to help really who they seem to be or is there someone who shouldn't be trusted.
I enjoyed this Young Adult (YA) paranormal story by Lou Grimes. Louvette Blackwood and her Mum have moved around a lot and Louvette is seen as a bit of a trouble maker and has been thrown out of many schools. She never knew her father or even his name, until a lawyer turns up to execute her grandfather's will. Louvette discovers that her grandfather was murdered whilst searching for her father, and Louvette is the sole heir to the Blackwood estate and fortune. Having signed the will Louvette and her mother head to Montana for a fresh start. This decision starts an eventful year for Louvette with a new place to explore, new friends, a possible romance, and new enemies. She is also determined to find out the truth about her father, and then there’s the wolf’s! No spoilers, I recommend this YA book as it is fast paced with an exciting storyline and has some great characters, all of which kept me turning the pages well into the night. I look forward to future books in this ‘The Cursed’ series.
This book would have definitely been liked by baby Tati. Objectively, it’s a fine book with a decent plot line and I can really see the appeal it has for teens. 26 year old Tati did not love it.
The main character is named Louvette and she is definitely rough around the edges. She had been kicked out of so many schools due to her anger issues. When her grandfather mysteriously dies, Louvette and her mother have a final chance of normalcy.
That doesn’t last long due to the fact that she meets a boy named Arson and realized both he and herself are not fully human. Louvette soon enters the realm of supernatural and finds out she is the only girl wolf, though no one knows why yet.
Arson is the love interest and the author understands teenagers. They fall in love quickly, as would normal teens, and most of her thoughts are soon occupied with him and being a wolf.
The ending was a quick read with lots of action, leading up to an obvious next book. Overall, it’s a fun supernatural love/action story for teens. Very YA.
Winter's Wolf is the first in the series The Cursed by Lou Grimes. It follows the story of Louvette, a girl who has trouble not getting into fights at school. Forced to move continuously because of being kicked out of school, Louvette tries to do the right thing but it always seems to end up bad. When Louvette gets a letter from a lawyer saying she has inherited her grandfather's estate, a grandfather she didn't know about, her world is about to be changed. She begins to learn about her family roots and why her temper may be out of control. It wasn't what she expected. She is now Louvette Blackwood and owns the right to the name.
I'm excited for this series. This book is a good beginning and I will definitely be reading the others to follow along and see what happens to Louvette and her friends.
Winter’s Wolf (The Cursed Series Book 1) by Lou Grimes 4 Stars
Louvette has lived almost all over the southern US states. It seems her and her mother were always running. It didn’t help that she was always kicked out of school for fighting. After her recent expulsion, her mother was at her wits end. A knock on their door would change the course of her life. Louvette had never met her father yet she inherited everything when her grandfather passed away. Her mother wasn’t happy but without any other options, signed the papers. Louvette thought of it as a new opportunity to start somewhere new. The little town in Montana was quaint but had its secrets. Louvette quickly realized that she was different and that danger lurked around every corner.
This was an amazing debut novel and a great start to what I believe will be a fantastic series. Between these pages you will find action, danger and romance. The story will keep you glued from beginning to end. The characters are likeable and relatable. I can’t wait to read part two.
I had no idea what to expect when I picked up Winter’s Wolf, the first of The Cursed Series from Lou Grimes. This is Lou’s debut novel so was not only new to me but this was a new everything experience. Normally I am not drawn to shapeshifter or werewolf novels easily but this one just grabbed my attention with the teasers and blurb mixed with that gorgeous cover, that I had to know what happened in this book asap!
This book was a quick and fast paced read that never left me on a boring note and had me reading faster and faster to see how the book would culminate. I was so happy that this book included so many genres really that it was not completely consumed by the fact that it was a werewolf story. The characters are strong and fierce and Lou writes them with a conviction that makes them come to life and feel very real. I loved how this ended and look forward to seeing what the next few novels will bring about!
Winter’s Wolf: The Cursed book 1 by Lou Grimes is a 5 star read. Louvette Lynskey has been expelled from another school for fighting, so as her and her mother are planning on moving to another town they are approached by a lawyer for the grandfather Louvette never knew existed, he tell them that her grandfather Wilder has passed away and left everything to her. They decide to move to Wilder’s home and start fresh, attending another new school Louvette meets Arsen, who knows more about Louvette’s family than she does, but there are other secrets that are revealed to her but she’s left not knowing who she can trust. This is the debut novel by this author and it was amazing, the storyline was well thought out and the characters really were easy to connect with, I can’t wait for book 2.
This story grabbed me from the beginning and kept me intrigued throughout the entire read. This book is full of action, suspense, mystery and more. Given the circumstances Louvette handled the information well when she found out she was a lupine and had no idea until now. She has more questions than answers about her father and grandfather. There are other wonderful characters in this book that make this story that much better. I found myself turning pages while on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen next. I absolutely enjoyed reading this well written story and can't wait to read what's next. I highly recommend this book!!
5 Star Winter's Wolf (The Cursed Series Book 1) by Lou Grimes is a Paranormal story that pulled me in from the beginning and I couldn’t stop reading till the end. There’s a bit of everything from suspense to mystery, drama and even action. This is my first read by this Author and definitely will not be my last. I normally don’t go for the shape shifter but the more I read the more I find myself drawn to them. Louvette and her mom are constantly moving because she can’t seem to stay out of trouble. Just as they are fixing to move again a lawyer shows up on their doorstep with an opportunity they can’t pass up or can they? Find out what happens next in this must read. I look forward to reading more from this Author.
Winter’s Wolf was a really enjoyable paranormal story – although I have read a few stories from this genre it is not one of my go to books but I saw the cover which I loved and the blurb really intrigued me so I thought I would give it a ago and I really enjoyed it! The writing was easy to read, the story line was good and I really liked the characters. The author did a great job with world building and her creative writing style really came through. I liked that the story wasn’t quite what I was expecting either – it was a really refreshing read! Louvette was a really interesting character to read about – I really liked her. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this new series!!
I give Winter's Wolf (The Cursed Book 1) by Lou Grimes, 5 stars.
I really enjoyed this book. This is a YA supernatural book where the main character discovers who they really are. While there are many books that fall into this category, the author does a great job of making this one stand out. Louvette is such a good character and we are along for the ride as she finds out more about herself. Most teenagers feel like she does at this age and I could easily remember those times while I read. The cast of secondary characters is also really great. Her mother did the best she could, but you can see the love there. Her friends are also enjoyable and I hope to see more of them too. Then there is the story itself. It's not just a girl finding her way in this newly discovered world. There are more sinister things afoot, making the story all the more endearing.
If you are a fan of YA Paranormal books, I recommend this story to you. I cannot wait to read the next book.
I'm so sad that I finished this book it was such a great story! This was a new to me author. I'm literally feeling a book hangover. This was a young adult paranormal romance about werewolves and perhaps other things that go bump in the night. I can't figure out where to start to describe this book. It was well detailed and it wasn't over the top. It was about a young teenaged girl struggling with emotions and discovering who and what she is in the scheme of things, falling in love and learning to control the pandemonium of life's curve balls. The day I finished this book I found out this was the author's debut novel. So now I'm following the heck out of her praying for the next installment to hurry up on its heels. I didn't want this story to end! This author seriously earned all five stars! I really loved this book!
I love shifter reads and this one was unique in the fact that Louvette had no idea of her past, her father or the fact she was a wolf. She has had trouble at every school she has been in and when she lands in Montana she starts to learn of her father, her grandfather, and her past. She finally finds someone who understands her.
This read was full of secrets, lies, angst, and so much action. It will hold your attention from the first sentence to the last. The characters were great. Louvette's mom will drive you crazy at times but she is just being a mom. Louvette, her friend Cara, and her love interest Arsen are all interesting. I loved all the suspense and action in the story. Can't wait for the next book.
Grimes is a new author for me and I loved every page of this book. Although intended for a YA audience, it is so well written I believe readers of all ages (including this middle age woman) will thoroughly enjoy this paranormal adventure. Louvette is a strong and feisty character that I immediately like from the first page. She has fire and spirit and I immediately wanted to know more about her and her relationship with her mom and her background. You knew it was going to be interesting. But I never quite anticipated each turn the story took. I really enjoyed the story pace and the author’s ability to keep things fresh. Fantasy lovers - this is a must read!
Its not like I don’t already have enough series that I must keep up with, but, Winter's Wolf (The Cursed Series Book 1) by Lou Grimes has been added to the list. This is a great shifter story and if the next ones are as good as this one this will shape up to be a really good series. The characters are all interesting and well tailored. Although there are many characters the focus is on the main ones with just enough information to start your anticipation for the next book in this really excellent series. The romance between Louvette and Arsen is very palpable and so very sweet. Some good clean love without the icky factor, may be what I love about this book the most. A very enjoyable read.
Winter's Wolf by Lou Grimes is a paranormal romance. Louvette can't seem to control her temper or stay out of trouble. Her mother is constantly having to move to the next town for a fresh start and to check Louvette into a new school. That all changes when Louvette's late grandfather leaves everything to her in his will and she learns more about the side of her family she never knew about.
Grimes does a great job setting up the world and characters. I loved the relationship between Louvette and her mother. The story is action packed with a bit of mystery. I can't wait to read the next book on this series.
