Wow!
I loved all the characters in this book, REALLY loved them. I wanted to be friends with all of them (well except one), I wanted to be their neighbour and join them for lunch at a nearby cafe. Just an absolute feel good group of characters.
Liane approached the very complicated world of IVF compassionately and knowledgeably. Leaving me with a few big questions at the end of this book!
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an exciting domestic thriller. Especially if you're interested in DNA and Ancestry websites. You may be left asking yourself a few "What ifs?"
I am looking forward to Book 2 in this series!

Wow! This was an amazing read! Typically when I read suspense/thriller books, I am able to guess what the ending will be like, but that was not the case with this one. I was shocked with how this story ended!!! It was so interesting! I would try to summarize the book in my review, but I feel as if this is almost more fun to read if you go into it not knowing what to expect. Just know that this book is full of twists and turns and you will be blown away by the ending.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough! I will have a more in depth review coming out on my blog soon, so if you are interested, keep a look out for that review!

Becky and her husband are going through IVF when she has a car accident and starts feeling as if she is losing her mind, possibly due to the car accident? While her best friend Jules is trying to find her birth mother through DNA. The synopsis made this sound like a good thriller but I had a really hard time getting into the story and even though it wraps up with some excitement, it never made me feel like I was reading a thriller, more like a family drama.

4.5. What a good, fast paced story! This is my first book by this author but will not be my last! It hooked me right from the beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book! The storyline encompassed so many topics, including IVF and adoption, of which I knew very little; and also dementia/Alzheimers, of which (sadly) I have a lot more knowledge of.

Wow. Wow. Wow!!!! This book was absolutely AMAZING!!! I literally could not put it down and totally binge read the entire book in one sitting. The mysteriousness kept me glued to the pages. My thoughts as I read the entire book were literally, "Why is this happening? Was someone in their house or is she paranoid? Jules, who is your birth mother? I have to know! Oh my gosh, did that just happen? What?! No way!" *turns to my husband sitting next to me* "Honey, this book is amazing!" The characters were just awesome and so realistic. Becky, our protagonist, is real and so very down to earth. Jules is the best friend we all want and I just adored her. Bryan was such a kind, considerate husband.
Then, there are the educational, very real life topics of IVF, adoption, and Alzheimer's that really gives the reader a personal and up close realization of how each of these can impact a family and what people go through. I learned so much about the difficult process of IVF that I never knew before, got a glimpse of how someone might feel about their birth family when they are adopted, and the chapters written from the point of view of Becky's mother showed me what people with Alzheimer's deal with. The author obviously either did some very incredible research and/or has personal experiences with these topics.
All throughout, this book made me laugh out loud, cry, and feel so many emotions. I could certainly see this develop into an addicting book series and it would make a fantastic movie or television series. It has all the right suspense and cliffhangers to leave me wanting more and more and more.
Liane Carmen is an excellent, truly professional writer, and I can't wait to see what her future books bring! You can be certain I will be first in line to buy the next one! May God bless this author and all of her writing endeavors!

I read it in 3 days which is fast for me. I absolutely loved it and couldn’t put it down. It was fast paced and heart racing. So many twists and turns, you didn’t know who to trust. I highly recommend it. Synopsis: Becky had fertility problems and was going through IVF. Her hormones were making her forgetful and acting strange or were they?? Her best friend was trying to find the family who gave her up through DNA testing. What they both discovered would change their lives forever.

This book was a pretty fast read. It gave me a lot of knowledge about IVF that I didn't know prior to reading this. It was interesting and had a twist or two!

Becky Morgan is going through IVF treatments so that she and her husband, Bryan, can start a family. During the rounds of treatments, Becky is in a car accident and suffers a concussion. Shortly after the accident, Becky begins to experience mysterious and inexplicable events in her life that impact both she and Bryan in adverse ways. Concurrent with Becky’s ordeals, her best friend, Jules, is searching for her birth parents through DNA testing. She is undergoing a gamut of emotions while trying to find her biological family. Will the IVF treatments lead to a viable pregnancy for Becky? How does Jules’ search affect her adoptive parents, and will she be successful in finding blood relatives? Becky, Bryan, and Jules are not the only ones going through challenges that are affecting their lives. Becky’s mother has dementia and has periods of both lucidity and lack of clarity.

Carmen skillfully ratchets up the tension while the story races to an exciting climax. A wonderful start to a new series, and I look forward to the next installment. My expectations were high for Where The Truth Hides by Liane Carmen. I was excited about the subjects of IVF pregnancies and DNA birth family searches as they are both very present in my life. I was lucky enough to have a successful IVF with a donor egg experience myself and have a 17 year old son to prove it. Plus, through a DNA matching site, my mother and I have recently found a niece/cousin who was given up for adoption 65 years ago. We submitted my mom’s DNA with the sole purpose of finding my cousin. It has been a success, and she’s a welcome addition to our family. Then in the book there was a side subject of a parent with dementia which we are dealing with in our home as my 86-year-old mother-in-law who has dementia is living with us. So this book had the setup to hit three resonant chords for me. It was successful in that regard. I could relate to the characters and their challenges.
When the confusions and odd things started to happen, I could see where the storyline was taking us, however, not how we were going to get there. I found the novel compelling in that regard. I, also, had seen a part of a twist ahead of time, but then disregarded it due to subsequent actions in the storyline. I did NOT see the full twist and was pleased to have been surprised. I am frustrated that a big plot point was dangled at the end of the book but not answered. I realize there is a sequel to this book coming, but I don’t believe that’s an excuse to leave your readers hanging.
All in all, this is an enjoyable read. 3 stars from me.

3.5 stars. This is Liane Carmen’s debut novel, and it didn’t miss a beat. “Where the Truth Hides” is a thriller revolving around psychological games and manipulation. Ms. Carmen addresses the stressful and emotional journey for those who are embarking on IVF treatments, finding relatives through the DNA process, adoption, and the heartbreak of Alzheimer’s. The characters are well developed and the plot satisfying with many twists and turns.
Although suspenseful, in the beginning I struggled getting into the novel. The pacing was slow, repetitive, and the suspense didn’t capture me enough to hold me onto the edge of my seat, so I found myself speed reading through some pages. It wasn’t until I was about 60% into the book that the pace quickened and the storyline deepened. All things tied together in the end, but still left some unanswered questions. I understand this is a series, so hopefully the second novel addresses Becky's ongoing relationship with her mother and her past.
I also had trouble with the ending. My brother-in-law and nephew are police officers and there is no way they would allow two citizens to follow them into a potential crime scene that would put them in harm's way. Especially those with emotional ties to the victim because they usually think and act irrationally putting all in danger.
Ninety percent into the book, there was no profanity, and then a considerable amount was used. It seemed incongruent and unnecessary.
Content: (S) None. (V) Threats of violence, stalking behavior, and hitting. (L) Mild with one use of the F-bomb.

WOW! I couldn't put this book down. Parts of it actually hit home with me since my mom has progressive dementia and I am her caregiver. I felt for Becky having to deal with her mother having periods of lucidity and then forgetting things just after they happened. Becky, Bryan and her best friend since childhood, Jules are all going through events that have a profound impact on their lives creating a thrilling ride. Just when you think you figured things out - Your led in a different direction. Was Becky going through memory lapses because she is going through IVF treatments? Could her car accident have caused the change in her personality? She did have a concussion. At the same time, Jules wanted desperately to find her birth parents and took a DNA test. Is Jules problem due to trust issues because she was adopted? Each character goes through some pretty stressful events. This book made me laugh, cry and kept me turning pages to see what could possibly happen next! The author so deftly pulls many threads but then just as deftly ties up the loose ends that threw me for a loop! This first book is very promising and I would like to see where the author will take us next, there are so many possibilities! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Becky and Jules have been friends since they were children. When Jules decides to do a DNA test to see if she can find out about her birth parents, she has Becky take one with her. But as Becky is going through IVF trying to get pregnant, she changes her mind about the test. Then she’s in a car accident, and starts experiencing strange that happening to her. She thinks she’s losing her mind. As she struggles with the IVF, and what is happening to her, she try’s not to lose it.
I think this was an interesting book. It definitely kept me guessing and I didn’t know what was going on. There were times when I found I couldn’t keep interest, and then I would be sucked in. It was well written with amazing characters who jumped off the page. I recommend this book if you enjoy a good story with a mystery.

I did not want to put this book down. Or even finish it. It was that good. The author has created a tightly woven suspense that leaves the reader paranoid about what is going to happen next. And who is doing it? And why?
Is it Becky herself? Her husband? Or one of her friends - one who is not really a friend?
I usually manage to figure out what is going on before I get to the end of a mystery novel but Where The Truth Lies had me stumped. And the ending was just brilliant. Completely plausible and it ties in so well with the story.
I cannot wait to read more from this author.

This is my first book by this author and I loved it from beginning to end. It is a well written story that has characters that bring the story to life. I had no problems connecting with the characters and they made the story easy for me to read. The twists and turns left me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. This is a fast paced story that I had a hard time putting down. I highly recommend this book.

After the accident, she becomes more forgetful, short-tempered, and distant from her friends and family. Is this related to IVF or something else? Suspicious events begin occurring to Becky, calling her integrity into question and leaving her feeling helpless. Will she discover the truth in time to save herself, her marriage and her unborn child?
Jules, Becky’s best friend, is on a mission of her own. Adopted at birth, she is desperate to discover information about her birth family.

The character development is fabulous....it is kind of disappointing when you realize these friends are not in your phone contacts!! Wonderful twist and turns! Cant wait for the next book (no pressure Liane) to see where these friends go!!!!

This was my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more by her. This book sucked me right in immediately and was quite a page-turner, although it did have its slow or confusing spots. I just kept reading though, and lost a fair amount of sleep, finishing it quickly! I love a good thriller, and the IVF and DNA aspects of the story enhanced my interest. No spoilers, but the book was satisfying overall, although I needed to suspend reality in a few places. I recommend this book if you like thrillers in general. I received an arc of this book, but these opinions are my own.

I had just binged on my favorite series Dead to Me and needed a replacement. I found it in Where the Truth Hides, which is like a bingeworthy series you can't stop watching, only this is a book. I could see series written all over this. I read it in one sitting because I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. The characters in these books are you and your best friend, they are the people that live in your neighborhood. This book gave me a couple of new friends that I didn't even have to social distance from. They were right there in my living room. Can't wait for this author's next adventures of Becky and Jules, cuz I know there is one on its way!

This book is an incredible suspense novel written by the idea of DNA, which the author personally used. She used her experience to grab onto the idea of writting this book. At some points in this book, I thought I was going crazy myself. Thats how well she does connecting you to the characters.
I expressed to the author that the beginning of this book seemed a little slow and drug out, but once you are reaching the end you quickly understand why. Every single detail is needed for this incredible ending that wraps everything up nicely.
The book also does a wonderful job explaining how DNA can be used and showing what these brave women using IVF go through.
I will say you that you probably shouldn't try to guess the ending. If you do, good luck getting it right.

Where The Truth Hides is a suspense/thriller where IVF, DNA and adoption play major roles.
Becky and Bryan are longing to have a baby and are taking all the right steps to have their IVF venture result in success. At the same time, Becky's best friend, Jules, is using DNA searches to find her birth parents. Things start to go terribly wrong for Becky, with one mishap after another, and the reader is left to guess who the saboteur is, which I found exciting, as there are quite a number of possible minor role characters and I found myself playing detective.
However, I had trouble with the ending, as it reminded me of a Lifetime movie, where contrived things happen. For example, a police officer allows 2 citizens to follow him to the potential crime scene, to "help out". Additionally, the language of the criminal is almost hilarious ie when asked to put down the gun, her response is "yeah, I don't think I feel like doing that."

An amazing thriller that left me hanging on the edge of my seat, and left me hooked trying to figure out what would happen next.
I found that their was so many twists throughout the story that it kept me guessing the whole way and the ending left me wanting more.

I found that their was so many twists throughout the story that it kept me guessing the whole way and the ending left me wanting more.

Becky and Jules were childhood friends who reconnected after Becky’s family had moved away and came back. Jules is adopted and is intent on finding her birth mother and family through DNA. Becky and her husband are trying IVF to have a baby. Things should be going great, but all of a sudden unexplainable thing start occurring with Becky. Lapses in memory, forgotten purchases, and more! Her husband claims she is cheating on him…none of this makes any sense! Jules is getting lucky with her project…but what does it have to do with Becky? Loved this summer reading book! Suspenseful and entertaining. Great setting in Florida and references to University of Georgia. Go Dawgs! Stayed engaged as the characters were so relatable.

This book showed at up my doorstep with an amazingly sweet signed card from the author Liane Carmen. I won it in a goodreads giveaway and barely knew what to expect. I must admit I was a bit lost at first as there was so many storylines that I had no idea how these storylines were going to blend together. However it was beautifully written and kept me super intrigued. It wasn’t until the end chapters when I literally said out loud “OHHHHHH NOW THIS ALL MAKES SENSE”. I quickly sped through the last chapters and was thoroughly satisfied with how it all tied together. If you want a quick, and interesting read that covers a subject that is not frequently covered hurry to get this one!!

I will start by saying this book is an amazing suspenseful novel that really pulls you in. The characters are great you can really connect to them. I loved how fast paced this book is you just keep turning pages trying to figure it out. I personally try to guess the endings of mystery/thrillers and get them right most the time. This one though had me thinking one thing and i was so off. The ending is just not at all what you expect! I will say I found the beginning of the book to a little slow and drug out to a degree but when you get to the ending and everything comes together all those details really bring the story to a nice end wrapping up all the lose ends.
This story really brings some insight to the couple’s that go through the IVF process as well as the journey looking for and finding family using DNA. These are things you don’t read about often but the author did a magnificent job of putting these together and not only creating a suspenseful great book but also helping see things in a different light and really opening your eyes to IVF and DNA struggles. All in all this book had me at the edge of my seat turning pages faster than ever before and I was sad that it was over but happy that the at the end she announced a second book would be coming in 2021! I already can’t wait!

I am so happy I discovered this new author! This book was amazing and I did not stop until I was finished. Now to patiently wait for next one. Becky and Jules have been best friends since they met at the age of 4. Now all grown up, Jules is trying to find her birth parents as she was adopted and Becky and her husband desperately want a baby. After Becky is involved in a car accident, she feels like she is going crazy. Her business partner accuses of her stealing and her husband accuses of her cheating and she does not remember either. Lots of twists and surprises. Highly recommend.
