Ensnared by the Laird is not a bad story. Its just boring and this plot has been done many times by many authors. With a better storyline and characters.

Domnall Mac Ayre has just escaped the hangman noose when his 4 friend rescue him. They were all set to hang. They had been betrayed by Andrew Murray. The four friend escape brake apart and swear to seek vengeance on Murray and all who betrayed them.

Domnall finds Murray's home and decides to kill him in his bed. But instead of Murray being there its Lady Ailsa Murray. He decides to kidnap her and use her for bate to lure her brother to him.

She tries to escape only to almost get raped. Its just a boring story with them trying to find Murray. Ailsa does come to know what a horrible person her brother is. But she still tries to stop Domnall from killing him. She almost gets both of them killed instead.

There is one sexual scene but other then that there is no romance, not much action until the end. Just Blah Blah Blah!!

Emma Prince once again has written a book that you cannot put down and will stay up late at night to finish reading it!! I absolutely loved Domnall and Ailsa's story, it's so full of adventure, action, heartbreak, danger and passion, everything I love in a historical romance:)

Domnall, one of the Four Horsemen of the Highlands, has agreed to help usurp the Pretender King and he also has a personal vengeance against a traitor in their army, one who helped kill most of their men and who also killed his beloved horse. Tracking the traitor, the last thing he expects to find is the traitor's sister, Ailsa! He decides to take her captive to oust her brother but she certainly does not make it easy for him!!!

Ailsa is a sheltered lady but she has spirit and puts up a good fight! Eventually, she learns what her brother is really like and with her heart getting involved with Domnall, she tries to make him understand that if he pursues his vengeance, he will lose his soul. Vengeance vs love is a big part of this story and your heart will beat that much faster as you keep reading.

As a side note, I must say I loved Fern! lol I also love it when an author takes true historical facts and adds her own imagination to it!!

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Ensnared by the Laird
Four Horseman of the Highlands #1
Emma Prince
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Laird Domnall MacAyre is definitely out for blood and who can blame him. He carries a personal vendetta against the traitor who helped the Pretender ascend the throne he usurped. But after weeks of tracking the traitor he finds out where he is on a remote island keep. And when he sneaks in he's shocked to find the man's sister instead almosting murdering her by accident. Now this lass makes Domnalls retribution all that much sweeter - in kidnapping her, he can now twist the knife even deeper into his enemy's heart. Yet as time goes on he starts to feel things for this beautiful woman, and it is Domnall's heart that is in danger now.

Lady Ailsa Murray barely knows her brother, yet he is her only family left, and bonds of blood are not as easily broken as one may think. So when she is taken by a Highlander who's dead set on revenge, she makes a silent pledge to do anything it takes to thwart him however she can. But when it comes to her captor, there is a fine line between love and hate. Will she have the courage to stand against Domnall, or will her heart succumb before she can do anything to help them both?

Emma Prince writes a fantastic enimies to lovers tale that will have you reading long into the night. Self isolation has never been so sweet with a book like this at your fingertips. I think my favorite troupe is enimies to lovers and this book did not disappoint. Domnall is a brave Highlander who has escaped death more then a few times and Ailsa is a sweet sheltered beauty who will prove over and over that she does have a backbone of steel. I was blown away by this story and can't wait to read the next book in this series by Ms. Prince

When love collides with vengeance, only the strong will survive...

WOW doesn’t even begin to cover this 10 star worthy story by the fabulous Emma Prince! Our hero is bent on exacting revenge on the traitor to the rightful King of Scotland when he happens upon the perfect foil in the form of the traitor’s sister. But things aren’t what they seem and what ensues is a delightful journey to what could be a happily ever after.

I adore our hero and heroine and LOVE the quiet, unassuming way one weasels into the other’s heart. You’ll have to read the book to figure out who conquers who. 😊 Now, Ms. Prince, when can we get book 2?

The Four Horsemen of the Highlands. Domnall, Gregor, Tavish and Artair. Formed by survival and the bonds of a unified cause. Return Scotland's throne to the rightful King and vengeance on those who stole it and killed their people!
Yowza!! Think of those lines in a booming Scottish voice, because from the beginning I was carried away as these four warriors made a heart pounding escape from hanging and could truly see it in my mind!! They had to split up and this is about Laid Domnall MacAyre, oh aye, a braw warrior indeed!
His focus was on Murray, a traitor and he finally ran him down at the man's keep. But when he is ready to slit his throat, he finds instead the man's sister, Lady Alisa. Oh yes she would do perfectly well so he took he in order to make Murray meet him.
Then the real adventure begins! "She was far too bonny. Dangerously bonny. Bloody hell. Aye, she was dangerous- a dangerous distraction from what needed doing. Still she was his greatest weapon against Murray." She would draw him to Domnall.
Emma Prince is at her best with her phenomenal pen that weaves historical fact with remarkable fiction to bring the start to this new series. Am I excited? Aye pure barry lassies!

I found this book to be a little shorter than I wanted it and the feelings of love to be quick. I wasn’t disappointed. Just would love more story! :) Does he take Aisla back to his lands as his lady? How did his clan fare in his absence? I have so many questions and can only hope that there will be a 5th book to tie up all the questions, if the others don’t address them. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this story and Ailsa’s character. She is strong and all that is good I’m the world. I am convinced. She doesn’t know her brother, but tries to protect him, until the truth is revealed. Then, she is concerned about Domnall’s soul.
Trigger warning: the book has an attempting hanging, but I promise it isn’t too bad. I cannot wait for the other books and to learn more about the other 3 men we met at the beginning of this story. I really enjoyed Fern. He was a source of humor and I loved seeing how he changed towards our hero. Anyway, this story was well done. Highly recommend.

Scone, Scotland, 1332

Scotland was in turmoil after the Bruce’s death as his son David II was only 4 was not his majority. So this fake King, Edward Balliol steals the Scottish throne! During the second war of independence, this pretend monarch wants to make an example to any who does not support him. So he slaughters Scottish warriors in their sleep and a big traitor, Andrew Murray is the reason why and how! A man who betrays his own countrymen for coin!

After the devestating Battle of Dupplin in Pershire, Balliol crowns himself King of Scotland. The four Highland leaders were taken as prisoners to make an example of. They were Laird MacAyre, MacLeod, MacKinnon and MacNeal, who were all taken to a cold dark cell with very little substance to survive on. They were all sentenced to hang-except during their hanging, a miracle from God happened to save them. Domnall MacAyre was the first and his hanging had already begun, but the other three Highlander’s saved him. On this day they became brothers even though not by blood. The also made oaths of revenge and vengeance for all who were traitors to them and their country.

One was Andrew Muarray, who betrayed his own countrymen for coin to pay off his gambling debts. He secretly opened the camp fori Balliol’s men while everyone was sleeping to be slaughtered. He even tortured Bhaltair, Domnall MacAyre’s loyal warhorse. His horse would of alarmed the camp, but Andrew stabbed the beloved horse in the neck giving this beloved animal a slow death. Domnall was heartbroken but finished the job to put his horse out of his misery. Now he possessed Andrew’s knife which Domnall planned to kill him with!

By the time he reached one of Murray’s residents, he cat08ches what he thought was Andrew Murray asleep. Except he soon realizes he is pressing his knife to a beautiful lassies throat! As it was the beautiful face and exquisite form of Ailsa Murray. The sister of his enemy! Now he had to revise his plan and take Ailsa as a hostage. The problem is Ailsa is the exact opposite of her brother. She had been in prison herself forced by her brother, a sibling she barely knew after her parents death. Shortly , after their death he arranges a marriage to an unkind man three times her age. Ailsa’s parents had been kind but kept her sheltered from the ugliness of the world but she knew her duty. Yet she knew her father would have picked a kind, honorable man, in her age bracket that she could one day learn to love. Her brother only cared to pay off his gambling debts, selling her off like a farm animal. Yet she also still did not want her only family left to die.

At first she tries to escape but after spraining her ankle and he gently cares for it, seeing Domnall help a homeless urchin, and protecting her from ruthless characters again and again. As she starts picking the chinks from Domnall’s armor and see’s the truth in both her brutal abusive brother and this honorable Laird, her abductor. She doesn’t want Domnall to mark his soul and regret something he won’t be able to live with or take back. Plus soon feelings of the heart start pumping through both their veins that they both try to deny and hide from. Yet you can’t dismiss or hide from love. What road will Domnall take? He has so much guilt the more he feels for Ailsa. He knows by murdering and killing her only family member might destroy any future of happiness for them! Yet can he betray his highland brothers from the prison oath they all made to get revenge and vengeance to all the traitors that caused so much death and carnage to their people and Scotland. What road will he follow the one of vengeance and revenge or the one of honor and love?

A beautifully written novel from cover to cover. Plus it takes the reader from what is right and what is wrong. From darkness to light. Should she choose an evil brother just because they have the same parents? Plus can an angelic naive sister open her eyes to her brothers dark misdeeds and evil treachery that caused the deaths of so many? Can she trust a stranger that she sees as a truly good soul who is only trying to do what he feels is right? Yet she knows this honorable Laird will damage himself in the long run, that will eventually break his spirit and darken his soul and change his light forever.

This is the first book in the Four Horsemen of the Highlands series by Emma Price. It is a book readers don’t want to miss. It is an action packed, fast-paced, page-turning, romantic adventure that historical romance readers love. Yet it is weaved with true history and a fictional dramatic heart-pulling story and passionate romance. The setting is breathtakingly, filled with multi dimensional characters, captivating dialogue, with clever plotting, that absolutely blew me away! It was totally brilliant, as I was gasping for air never knowing what would happen next!

I highly recommend Ensnared by the Laird by Emma Prince.

I enjoy Tim Campbell's narration, and he always gives the heroes a deep, sexy voice.

A lot of the time, my "reviews" are less of a review per se and more a collection of notes that I write for myself so that I can remember what happens in each story, along with what I liked, disliked, had questions about, favorite parts, etc. I have a TBI and otherwise my memory will not serve me. Others may not find them helpful, just as a disclaimer.

Let me just start with the fact that I LOVE the theme of horses through this story. All of them. Every horse had a purpose to drive the story and I love it.

Aw, poor Vultar (Domnal's horse). And poor Domnal, having to end his suffering, especially since it was a gift from his Dad, who had passed, and a well learned lesson. He couldn't run hot headed into battle until Vultar was a well trained and brilliant war horse- which took 4 years of maturity for both Vultar and Domnal.

Ugh, Aisla should've listened to the horse when he didn't want to approach the cottage in the clearing. Speaking of that horse, I love him SO MUCH. I love that he had lived through so many battles. I love that he was snaggle-toothed and was missing half of an ear, and I love that he didn't like war driven men. He didn't start liking Domnal until he showed a softer side, whereas he was a perfect gentleman for the Inn Keeper and Aisla, because they weren't warriors. I think that warriors had trained him, taken him into battle where more warriors were responsible for his injuries. I love that Domnal called him "Infernal Hell Beast" and that Aisla shortened it to "Fern". And I love that Fern charged right onto the ice to save Aisla. There's something to be said of the love between a loyal horse and his girl.

I also loved the character of the Inn Keeper. I love that he enjoyed his job, and his place of business. I love that he cared for Aisla, because sometimes, particularly when times were tough as they were during the wars of independence in Scotland, business owners became hardened to the plight of others in favor of trying to get more coin for themselves. This is also evidenced in the boy outside of the first tavern Aisla and Domnal stopped into together- Domnal paid him handsomely to watch his horse, even though no one could've stolen Fern, even if they weren't afraid of hanging for the crime- but I feel like if he were at the tavern where the caring Inn Keeper was, the boy wouldn't be standing outside to freeze. I think he would've taken him in, fed him, "hired him" as a stable lad. I like that they repaid his kindness for offering to let Aisla ride his sweet bay mare by giving him a much more valuable chestnut stallion. Good people should get rewarded.

Usually, I'm not a fan of simpering women, but I really liked Aisla's character development. I like that she grew a spine, though through my modern mindset, it was hard for me to imagine Domnal killing Andrew Murray as a mark against his soul... people killed often back then, and didn't give it much thought, especially if it was for the good of Scotland.

I loved this book, and I can't wait to see how the other 4 horsemen fair- I imagine Gregor McLeod's obstacle was a woman of some sort, and I wonder why Tavis McNeil hasn't checked in.

I love that Emma Prince includes an Author's Note with her research! I've learned so much through her.

This rendition of the Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse is quite interesting. It's not so much about the Apocalypse as it is a Scottish battle where a usurper has crowned himself as king. Those loyal to the true king don't intend to sit back and let him get away with it.

Bomman is sentenced to death by hanging. He befriends three other Highlanders whilst Imprisoned and they make a pact. On the day when the sentence is being carried out, fate intervenes and they manage to escape. Bomman sets out to get his revenge on the traitor. They agree to lay low as they are now wanted men.

Bomman sets out to find the traitor and takes him weeks to find his whereabouts. Once he thinks that he has his traitor pinned, he sets out to get his revenge, but when he gets there, he gets a surprise. Instead of finding Murray who has betrayed them and their country , he finds Alisa his sister. He comes up with the plan of using her as bait. Will Murray take the bait? Will Alysa betray her brother?

In his search for Murray, he discovers a trail of debts left by Murray. Alysa becomes important to him even though his priority is on revenge. Feelings get involved and soon Bomman finds himself choosing between revenge and love. It's a love story where enemies become lovers and they have their happy ending. It's an easy read with a historical touch.

I've read these out of order, and I liked the detail (I missed in the other stories), how they formed a bond and almost died together. The opening was very unique. The other 3 stories were 4.5-5 stars from me, so more action and romance.

I did like both characters, but romance isn't on the forefront, but vengeance is. You will understand why the H has more than one reason for his vengeance. The h is really naive, and I felt sorry for her when she realized what her brother really was.

Lovemaking, outside of marriage, heat level 4 out of 5. Lord's name used in vain several times.

No cheating, no cliffhanger for our couple, HEA, little on romance and spice. I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you extra tidbits, to decide whether to purchase. I do recommend this series. Story ends at the 91% mark on my e-reader. Rest teaser for the next story. (ljb)

Vengeance.

Laird Domnall MacAyre and 3 other lairds are set to hang for their role against the Pretender king. When they escape, they agree to work separately to overthrow the pretender and seek vengeance on the traitor responsible for the deaths of thousands of their soldiers. Domnall sets out to find the traitor and finds and kidnaps his sister Ailsa instead to use as bait. However, all does not go as planned. Ailsa barely knows her brother and has no strong affection for him since he tried to marry her off to a man 3 times her age. She also has no idea what a bad man he is. As Domnall and Ailsa spend time together tracking her brother, their attraction grows and they start to question what is important and what is just.

Laird Domnall MacAyre is a wanted man with one thing on his mind,  revenge.  The traitor who cost many lives must pay with his.

Lady Ailsa Murray gets a rude awakening to who her brother really is.  Can she stop the man who only has vengeance on his mind from killing him.

This is an action packed story that has a lightning fast start and keeps going that way. There is a lot of adventure along the way. The characters are great. I especially loved the incredible horse.  He is as much the hero as the Laird.

This is the first in the series although each book can be read on it's own I will definitely be reading all of them.

I loved every page.

Highland adventure, revenge and love!

Escaping the hangman's noose by the crack of lightening on the horse from hell, Laird Domnall MacAyre is consumed with exacting revenge on the traitor, Andrew Murray, and will stop at nothing, not even using Murray's innocent sister Aylsa as bait to achieve his goal! This story will have you on the verge of not knowing who to cheer for. Domnall's deserved revenge or Aylsa's version of justice. Emma Prince writes enthralling tales that toss you about and have you grasping for more! I couldn't put it down and cannot wait for the next three of the four horsemen of the highlands tales!

Great book!

As always, Emma Prince has again captured my attention with this new series! In this book, Domnall’s focused desire for revenge can only be conquered by his unconscious growing love for Ailsa. Constantly torn between the two, keeps the reader going page after page on a hunt for discovery of how love will be able to overcome commitment. As with every book, the author provides the reader with the interesting research and its relationship to the story, providing real locations and people that make the reader feel present in the story. I highly recommend this romantic love story with its historical details to all lovers of the Scottish Highlands.

Emma prince is a wonderful storyteller and never fails to entertain. This is a well written and well executed tale in the series “Four Horsemen of the Highlands”. The four horsemen, Domnall, Gregor, Tavish and Artair band together to restore Scotland's throne to the rightful King and lay vengeance on those who stole it and killed their people! This is the story of Domnall and Lady Ailsa.

I was captivated from beginning to end by Emma’s attention to research and details and the way she beautifully weaves a wonderful romance within the story. This action packed, fast-paced romance is guaranteed to entertain!

Great read

I was a bit disappointed at first it took me a couple of chapters to get into the story. I nearly gave up but something in my head said read a bit more ,which I did. As I carried on reading I got engrossed as to what was unfolding and I just wish I could have just Sat reading all day but I just couldn't .
When the relationship between the two main characters were getting more caring I couldn't wait to see what the outcome would be.
I would recommend this book I'm glad I didn't give in and cast the book aside.

So excited that this book kicks off a new series from Emma Prince! I loved this one--lots of tension, enemies to lovers, actions and adventure, and some good sizzle. The horse was such a good size character, too! I loved getting to watch both the hero and the heroine change and grow over the course of the story, realizing their mistakes through the process of falling for each other. It was a satisfying ending, though I wanted it to never end--can't wait for the next one!

The perfect start of a series!

Prepare to be captivated with this beauty of the Highlands and swept away with the steamy passion of Domnall and Ailsa.
Ms. Prince magically grabs you from the first moments of the book and keeps you spellbound the entire way through.
The fight for the crown along with betrayal, pain, horror and vengeance is all consuming until the love of a lass can break down those walls and melt hatred away.
Well done Ms. Prince!

Revenge

Almost being hanged would make anyone want revenge. Kidnapping and dragging an innocent lady around Scotland to make her brother, a traitor, into the open so he could kill him isn't right or honorable. She makes him understand it is not something he would be doing.
Good and original story

good read

The story is good and it’s there but the pace isn’t there for me. It was a bit slow without the attention grabbing umph I look for in my highlander books. While I’ll likely pick up the other books at some point it won’t be an immediate continuation for me. Overall I enjoyed the story.
