If someone asks me what kind of BDSM I enjoy reading, I can easily answer that question now. This! Thank you, Meg.
I always tread with caution while reading stories with such elements because the range is vast while my preferences are more limited.
Jenson’s story was exactly what I’m looking for in this type of relationship.
To be honest, this surprised me at first. Why? Well, I gravitate towards couples that exchange such power plays during sex and don’t live their lives constantly in their dynamic roles. I can easily succumb to the allure of such intimacy in the bedroom. But…24/7? That’s a different ballgame. And not one I’m sure I want to buy a ticket for. However, Jenson and Mitchell allowed me to see a new angle and this different view was fascinating.

I do believe ‘tags’ can be considerate and even essential at times.
So, it should be noted that Michell is a survivor of domestic abuse.
He escaped.
Sadly, this newfound freedom doesn’t grant him the relief he deserves. Finding himself on rock bottom, he’s determined to reclaim the life he once knew. Not an easy feat considering he’s recovering from not only physical wounds but deep mental trauma as well. I loved Mitchell. Right from the start, I was cheering and hoping for his success. He may not recognize it, but he’s a fighter and I admired his strength.
Then we have Jenson.
Mmmm, I can’t wait for you to meet Jenson.
He’s a wealthy, kinky silver fox that quickly took my breath away.
He’s an acclaimed actor, but to him, it’s just a job.
He’s filthy rich, but to him, it’s just money.
What he wants, he doesn’t have and can’t find.
A partner. And not just for a hot weekend, but a permanent partner.
A boy of his very own.
He’s ready to settle down and give his heart away. If only he can find the right boy.

The storyline proceeds as you would imagine but I didn’t mind. The secondary cast is bright and bubbly and I look forward to seeing them again. There was one scene that left me slightly bewildered but I easily shook off my disbelief and moved on.
What I truly loved most was how Jenson loved Mitchell and in return, how Mitchell fell for Jenson. Tentative trust burns into absolute devotion. The demanding dom reminds Mitch he’s worthy and there’s great power in valuing oneself.
Toss in a few dramatic scenes, some sassy loving and wicked HEA…and there you have it.
Jenson’s story may not be ‘classic’ BDSM but it certainly hit all my buttons.

Beware of: Domestic abuse…although the attacks are in the past the residual terror is very much present. A bit of ménage but only with open relationships. And a seasoned dom guides a novice sub and suddenly finds himself at the mercy of his lover.

This book is for: If you’re in the mood for a silver fox tending to a bruised brave young man while unintentionally surrendering his heart, this may be just what you need.

Here’s how it went between me and this book (take this as your warning about spoilers because I won’t use spoiler tags).

2%: Mitchell is talking out loud to the roaches in his shower.
Me: Okay, maybe it’s a one-time thing, let’s not hold it against the book.

6%: Jenson is a super-rich actor, a Dom and he has threesomes with other Dom/sub couples.
Me: Fine, I think that was mentioned in the blurb and I can deal with it happening on page, since he hasn’t even met the other MC yet. It’s all good…wait, did the sub of the other couple just call his Dom “daddy?” Okay, I might’ve made an error in judgment picking this book up.

17%: Mitchell crashes his car into Jenson’s parked car to avoid a dog. Jenson and his friends help him out of the car and bring him inside Jenson's friends' house to make sure he’s okay, since he doesn’t want to go to the hospital. Jenson is super understanding and kind and Mitchell starts crying and almost has a breakdown because of it, because he’s running from an abusive relationship, he’s broke and stressed, on top of having just had a car accident (Jenson and his friends only know about the car accident). Jenson and his friends decide Mitchell’s a sub.
Here’s how it goes:
“We can’t actually be guaranteed he’s a submissive.”
Ben raised an eyebrow. “I’ll chop my right arm off if he’s not. You showed him just the tiniest bit of kindness and the cork came rocketing out of his bottle. Boom. Emotions everywhere. Full on meltdown. That’s a seriously neglected bottom.”
Not one of the 3 Doms (I use that term loosely) present objects to this.
Me: If I were a Dom, I’d feel slightly insulted at being portrayed this way, but hey, maybe it won’t be my new favorite BDSM book, it doesn’t mean it’s all bad, right? Let’s keep going.

Between 17% and 30%: Jenson offers Mitchell a job as his personal assistant, so he can keep an eye on and help the poor, neglected sub (who doesn’t know he’s a sub, has never said he’s a sub, probably doesn’t even know exactly what a sub is, but Doms have magic superpowers and they can spot subs in disguise just by looking intently into their eyes, offering them a hug and seeing how quickly it takes them to fall apart). Obviously, he doesn’t tell Mitchell about any of this, he just offers a job to the guy who crashed his car, with a barely-there excuse about putting aside part of Mitchell’s paycheck to pay for the car repairs (this only because Mitchell insisted he would find a way to repay him, Jenson has made it clear he doesn’t want Mitchell’s money, because he’s an awesomely rich super-Dom/actor and just all-around fabulous).
Me: If I were a sub, I’d feel slightly insulted at being portrayed this way, but what do I know? I’m pretty sure I’ve read worse, let’s see how it goes.

30%: Mitchell snoops into Jenson’s bedroom when Jenson’s out and finds its walls covered in pictures of naked subs, whips and other BDSM implements. Not surprisingly, he freaks out a bit. But just when he’s about to flee and never come back, Ben (the sub from the day Mitchell crashed into Jenson’s car) arrives. In Jenson’s home. Without ringing the bell. Does he have a key? And if so, why? But I digress.
Ben realizes something's wrong and here’s the exchange he has with Mitchell:
Mitchell shook his head, and his brain to mouth filter left him. “I saw it.”
Ben’s brows furrowed. “You saw what?”
“The room. His room.” Mitchell shook. He balled his hands into fists, fingernails digging into his palms. “The cage and the… the whips. Things to hurt people with.” His eyes flooded with tears despite trying to hold them back. “Good people don’t hurt others.”
“Oh, Mitch.” Ben sounded heartbroken. He scooted forward, wrapping Mitchell in his arms and hugging him tight. He pulled Mitchell’s face to rest against the join of his neck and shoulder, and he soothingly ran his hand through Mitchell’s hair. “It’s not at all what it looks like. Those aren’t meant to hurt. They’re meant to heal.”
Me: Uh…I’m pretty sure that’s not what they’re meant to do, but let’s go with that. For now.

34%: Jenson is taking Mitchell somewhere in Chicago to show him the city.
My brain: You don’t care about any of these characters, they haven’t even started doing anything BDSM-related and you already have problems with that aspect. It’s been heavily implied that, when Jenson is done “healing” him, Mitchell is going to be the bratty kind of sub you can barely stand to read about, even without the concrete possibility that he’ll end up calling Jenson “daddy.” Why are we still reading this?
Me: That’s an excellent question…

I can't do this anymore. I had such high hopes, but I just don't feel it.

I did almost quit at 18% when I read this:

"We can’t actually be guaranteed he’s a submissive." Ben raised an eyebrow. "I’ll chop my right arm off if he’s not. You showed him just the tiniest bit of kindness and the cork came rocketing out of his bottle. Boom. Emotions everywhere. Full on meltdown. That’s a seriously neglected bottom."

So... if you've had a hard life and you start crying when someone is kind to you (you've also just been in a car accident, but that can't have anything to do with it?), you're apparently immediately labled as submissive? And if you're submissive then you're automatically a bottom??

Sex is sex, who tops or who bottoms doesn't have anything to do with being more dominant or submissive.

I was hoping it would pick up after this, but no such luck.

This book and I will now part ways.

I had really high hopes reading the first two chapters, but when Mitchell & Jenson meet for the first time, it quickly went downhill for me. Is it really possible to recognize a true submissive, based on how the person acts in the aftermath of an motor vehicle accident? Because he had an panic attack, and he listened to and calmed down with help from a “Dom”? Then all the friends of that Dom, that witnessed the “sub”, whose still in shock Of causing an accident, were all sure as hell that he was a submissive without even knowing it himself. But all I could see was a traumatized victim of domestic abuse, not a submissive or a brat in the making. This whole thing made me feel really iffy, and after reading the conversation between the friend-group (while Mitchell the “sub” is passed out on the couch), I didn’t felt the need to continue anymore.

Enjoyed This

I liked the dynamic between Jenson and Mitchell. I wish it would have blossomed earlier in the book though. Although Jenson identifies that Mitchell is submissive from the beginning, it takes a while before the dynamic shows up and is acknowledged in their relationship. And because I read these stories for the power dynamic, I naturally would have preferred it starting earlier so I could get more of it. But otherwise, I enjoyed all Jenson's friends and the other subs. I can't wait for all their stories. I hope we'll eventually get Ben's so I can learn how he got to his happy marriage.

A good start to this series

Jenson is the first book I've read by Meg Harding and I liked it a lot. I found the story to be interesting and it really held my attention all the way through. Mitchell, 24, was abused by his boyfriend so he ran away. Jenson, nearly 40, thought he would never find the right boy for him and then he meets Mitchell.

Elements of this story were what I expected – a confrontation with Mitchell's ex – but how and when it happened kept me a bit on the edge of my seat which also means I kind of didn't want to put it down. 😊

There were a lot of emotions involved in this story. Mitchell has a lot of things to overcome after the abusive treatment he got at his ex's hands. Jenson is willing to take the time needed to help Mitchell heal. He doesn't do anything to try and force a relationship on Mitchell. As BDSM stories go this one was pretty mild with just a bit of edging, daddy/boy dynamic and very light punishment.

There was an interesting cast of secondary characters introduced in this story and I would like to read more books in this series.

A copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

Mitchell was so utterly broken; physically and emotionally. The severity of his panic attacks broke my heart; poor guy was forever looking for escape routes. I admired Mitchell in so many ways; he had the courage to leave and to face the tough challenges ahead.

Jenson was a caring Dom and I respected him even more when he took the time to care and befriend Michell. He was perceptive but never pushy, sweet but firm and most importantly, had a heart of gold.

Watching Mitchell slowly blossom under Jenson’s care warmed my heart. The broken pieces inside Mitchell started healing and catching glimpses of the real Mitchell made my eyes well up.

Mitchell and Jenson were gorgeous together and complemented each other beautifully.

There were several funny moments where I was laughing out loud. My favourite was when Jenson caught Mitchell reading about some kinky things on his kindle lol. Poor Mitchell, wanted the ground to swallow him up and I was right there with him.

Fantastic book and I really enjoyed it.

Actor Jenson Delaney is almost forty and has realized that he is ready for someone of his own. Normally playing the BDSM scene as a third; just an extra stimulant for a couple with no strings, but that gets old. He didn't realize that he would meet the perfect one in such a crazy way, but once he met Mitchell, he was loath to let the little submissive go. With Mitchell's past, Jenson knows he needs to move slowly and not overwhelm him, but will Mitchell be open to all the possibilities a relationship with him will bring?

This was the perfect story for someone that just entering into the BDSM genre. This was not a jump into things, but a slow introduction that gave the character and the reader time to learn what was going on. By far one of my fav MM BDSM stories, this was not just the spicy naughty bits; it contained actually storyline that kept me interested and not just flipping through to get it read. I give this 5 stars.

It's my first time reading book by Meg Harding and I can say I'm not dissapointed at all.

This book is slow burn romance. About Mitchell the survivor of abusive relationship with his ex boyfriend. His ex done a lot of damage to him, left him with physical and emotional scars. Mitch moved to other state to start his new life and fate bring him to Jenson.

Mitch sparks the Dom in Jenson and he can sense that Mitch is a sub who need a hand to guide him, spoiled him and pampered him but it was hard to gain Mitch's trust given his past with his ex.

Jenson being responsible adult and has a great self control, patiently teach Mitch how Dom-Sub work, set the boundaries and they started their Dom-Sub relationship.

It was such a sweet vanilla Dom-Sub story with age difference and a lot of sassy banter. I can see how Mitch blossom from vulnerable, broken man to a man who knows his worth because of Jenson!

A discovery !

5 stars !
I discovered Meg Harding following a reader's rec. on Fb. Since she was a *new to me author*, I checked out her work and 🤩 I'm glad I did ! Also, I'm thankful I gave this story a chance. It was just the right amount of feelings and hurt/comfort. The MC's personas are well established, even when vulnerable. If you like a bit of D/s and age gap, try it. You will love Jenson et Mitchell journey 😍. Can't wait for # 2 !

This was okay for me, but not great. The beginning had potential, but the follow through was too smooth sailing and fluffy to be convincing. The bit of drama at the end there was predictable and glazed over very quickly. Not even sure why it was included.

Also, I seem to have a very specific type of D/s kink I actually enjoy reading about so I don’t know why I keep trying to branch out lol.

Awesome

This one took me by surprise, in a good way! I loved both main characters, all the characters for that matter, and their relationship. It was sexy and sweet, they were exactly what the other needed. I'm going to buy this book after first reading it on KU, which hardly ever happens, cuz I loved it so much.

Enjoyable kinky romance, though it follows the standard pattern of established Dom introducing a new sub to the scene. I thoroughly appreciated how Jenson is careful to let Mitchell guide developments in their relationship.

I had some minor plot hole issues with the external plot finale, but nothing that stopped me from overall enjoying the book.

I thought the book was a great read. I liked the bratty sub with soft hearted dom. I really appreciated how careful and sensitive the dom was. I enjoyed the storyline. I thought the sex scenes were great and hot too! I would read more from this author. This author is new to me.

New-to-me author, and I tried. It had a lot of elements I usually love in a story, but after weeks of trying to slog through it and getting too bored to continue, I finally DNF'd at 78% so I could free up a spot in my KU queue. 😕
