My favourite instalment so far!

From part one I've always been more interested one of the male characters over the other and for that reason, A Memory in the Flame didn't disappoint.

Really intrigued about where the last part is going to take the story and how everything is going to wrap up.

Charlie Travesty, halfling vampire and apparently everyone's detective, is caught up in more drama and death as she makes a deal with the Vampire King to investigate the increased use of venom in the city.

I think my problem with this series is the length. For 86 pages, I feel like nothing really happens for about 50 pages of it. We just get a rehash of the same moping and internal monologuing from Charlie and brooding or crying from her love interests. Just as it's getting its stride and the action picks up, we're left on a cliffhanger. Three installments in and nothing as yet as been elaborated on, we have no answers and I'm starting to get frustrated.

I want some answers!

A continuation of Charlie getting dragged into more mysterious happenings while trying to fight feelings for two very different men. Like I know one of them is better suited for her, but can we just talk about how sweet the other is! *swoon*

Overall, a very enjoyable quick read.

The wait was so worth it. This has to be my favourite of so-far three serials and those who've read it know the reason why.

First of all, things are just STARTING to happen and there is only one serial left. It better be longer than five chapters because I don't see how the story can be concluded without it being rushed and trust me, we don't want that. I trust the author duo so I'm not That worried. Part four will kill me.

My prediction was not entirely wrong. I loved that scene so much. Noah was in every single chapter and never far away. I have never thirsted over a fictional character before but now? girl old me is screaming at me

Charlie is all about growth and standing for herself in this one. Love that for her

Drew and Nina kinda annoying ngl leave my kids alone tf

Pre- review
If she stays with Drew I will RIOT

First chapter prediction (hope*): Alexandar will capture Charlie and Noah will rescue her and make up some weak excuse jk

The third installment in the Charlie Travesty series was pure enjoyment people, and it literally left me with my mouth hanging open.

The drama, oh the drama... This time I feel like Charlie Travesty delivered exactly what i wanted from it. Hearts are broken, feelings are stirred, jealousy, desire, people throwing punches left and right, give me all of it. It's some good fun. It starts out good;

"Charlotte Travesty, did you drunk dial me?"

And only gets better;

"Human, stop talking before I eat you."

Charlie also grew on me this time. She's starting to grow up a little and I do like when she embrace that darker side from time to time.

When I sit back and look at the girl in the mirror again, she's different than she was at the beginning of the night.

We still don't get at ton of answers concerning the weeper mystery, but we get more clues and some more questions as well. It really feel like the authors set things up for the final part that I suspect will be a bit more action packed if the ending of this part is any indication.

All in all, it went by super fast, I'm really happy and the entertainment I got out of A Memory in the Flame deserves four stars.

I think this might be my favorite volume in the series so far🤭
•••
I have been a hoe for Noah since the first time we met him in volume 1 and boy did I have a time with this volume because he was ever present😍 ugh I love him. Volume 4 is going to be amazing and I can’t wait to see what Jessi and Kelsey have planned for us! But also no because they very well could end up breaking my heart😭😭
•••
Even though these volumes are short, there is so much packed in and that is no exception for this volume. I feel even in this small amount of time Charlie grew even more. She has become more confident, brave, strong but still holding on to her gullible, innocent, and young attributes. I only wished we had gotten to see more of her and Noah actually working together on the cases, but that’s what volume 4 is for! I cannot wait to see what happens next and I highly recommend this series to you all!
•••
REMINDER: this is the THIRD volumes of FOUR. They all go together to make ONE BOOK. The book is being serialized(released in parts) to try something new so each volume is only about 100-115 pages long. The FINAL volume of the FIRST BOOK comes out in two weeks on June 9!

Wow.

So many thoughts and feelings about this one! Definitely my favourite volume so far.

I’m team Noah now. Does that make me fickle? Oh well, I’m okay with that!

This volume felt like ALL action and has left me so excited to see how this is all going to wrap up in volume 4. Do I really have to wait two more weeks?!

Every installment of this story completely blows me away. Kelsey and Jessi can do no wrong, as far as I'm concerned. The tension in this volume is AMAZING! Like.. from the emotional conflicts to the sexual tension to the out-of-their-control events that impact the characters.. I just.. It was a whirlwind. I am so very, very invested in this story. My only complaint is knowing that eventually, this wild ride will end.

"She is not anyone's pawn. She is not a victim. And she's not afraid of waking up anymore."

First of all, this review will probably not be very professional, because, I mean, I loved this book, so what's there to say? I was PERFECTION. The growth that Charlie goes through in this book makes me root for her even harder. She has gained awareness, and that makes her much more powerful. Drew is... Well, he's still Drew. BUT NOAH! Noah is everything I need in a vampire: strong, dangerous, dark, hot, and, on unique situations, caring. Listen, I get why Charlie likes Drew. He's kind, gentle, and all that human stuff. But, if she chooses him over Noah, the girl's going to lose all my respect. Now that my fangirling is under control (kind of), I'll tell you why you should read this book.
The story just keeps getting more intricate. We have all these political plots going on, and most probably a revolution on the rising, and I'm here for it. I have so many questions and theories. It is a story that will, most definitely, keep you thinking about it for days. I know I definitely will, until I can get my hands on the last part (which I hope is long and rollercoaster emotional).
I'm also scared because A Memory in Flame wasn't as angsty as the previous ones, and that's definitely, NOT going to last. I fear all those feelings are getting saved up for the finale.
Anyway, read Charlie Travesty. You're welcome.

This is getting better and better! I’m liking Charlie more and more, and the romance is getting so good! Plot wise, there’s a lot going on and it seems like they’re individual plots. I hope they all come together in the end.

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
THERE'S NOT ENOUGH NOAH FOSTER IN THE WORLD AND THAT'S THE REAL TRAVESTY. And that's all I'm gonna say about that.
My hand reaches for the mascara wand again. I unscrew the cap, lean forward, and reapply the dark ink. When I sit back and look at the girl in the mirror again, she’s different than she was at the beginning of the night. Her eyeliner swoops outward like a raven’s wings, flying strong and certain through the sky. She is not anyone’s pawn. She is not a victim. And she’s not afraid of waking up anymore.
I feel like Charlie is really coming into to her own. She's growing as a character. I love that she and Noah grow closer in this volume. I love that we get to see a different side of Noah. We didn't get any new answers to anything, though, and I still have so many questions. I don't know how everything will be wrapped up in A Sacrifice in the Smoke.

PS: Why did that ending give me QAF season 5 vibes? 😭💔

If book 2 left me wanting a little as far as character arcs and development goes, book 3 of what is steadily becoming my favorite series gave me everything and then some that I wanted as far as characters.

There's something about Charlie not entirely separating herself from Charlotte; and being entirely honest with herself that she is still very much enshadowed by the princess she used to be, that is so endearing.

Books always seem to think a female lead either has to be this aloof, independent creature who relies on nobody or she has to be a damsel in distress who can't hold her own. Thankfully, like most real women, Charlie is protrayed as both. She is brave, and terrified, and opinionated. She drinks her problems away and gets jealous.

The plot advances much more in this book as well as the characters, which was exciting. Terrorists and secrets, bombings and Weepers. It keeps the pages turning let me just say.

The biggest surprise for me was Noah, I didn't expect to like him and yet: he is definitely my new favorite character. Sassy, slutty and open about both he is a delight to read.

As is apparently the new thing, this book ended with a cliff hanger shortly after breaking my heart. I was realing from the emotions and then BAM, end of book 3.

I imagine the authors having a great laugh over the fact that readers set the books down and SCREAM for 20 minutes about it and then anxiously await the next installment. I wonder how they plan to wrap up so much in just one more book, I'm excited to see it.

First of all, Drew who?

I am getting too invested in this series. I can’t believe we are 3/4 in, how will it end?

I am not prepared. But I will gladly take more Noah, please.

I received a copy of A Memory in the Flame by K.J. Sutton and Jessi Elliott in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis:

An offer too good to refuse. A love doomed from the start. An uprising in the making.

Charlie Travesty has been banished. Again.

While still working in the sewer and tracking down clues linked to the weeper attacks, Charlie struggles to keep her wits about her. Especially when her relationship with Drew keeps complicating everything.

Amidst so much turmoil and unanswered questions, only one thing is certain... Charlie Travesty’s Awakening was just the beginning.

‘We throw our hands up and sing at the top of our lungs, dancing as if our mother isn’t dead and we don’t have monsters living inside of us.’

A lot has happened in this book. It had more jaw dropping moments than the first two books combined!

“There is no sanity in the dark. There is only chaos,” the weeper whispers. The blackness where her eyes used to be is fixed on something over my shoulder.’

“It gets better,” Noah says abruptly, interrupting my downward spiral.
I refocus on him and frown. “What gets better?”
“That hopelessness you’re feeling. Everything might seem like shit right now, but it will change. Eventually.”

I was a little iffy about Noah when we first met him in the previous books, but he has slowly started to grow on me. There’s something else behind the asshole we all know as Noah Forrest. There’s something that we have yet to discover and to be honest, the very last little bit of this volume, I felt for him. I felt for him when Charlie acted one way around him and then a split second later after seeing Drew again, she turned. I don’t think Noah is a bad guy and he does deserve a chance at happiness.

And I’m just going to put this out there as well, I’m going through a really rough patch and reading that, even from a book, gave me hope that things will be okay. So thank you Jessi and K.J.

“You were poison, but oh, you were a delicious poison,” he whispers, leaning close, his breath tickling my ear.’

I was pretty in to Drew’s character in the first books, but now I’m not so sure. I still like him as a character but I think he still needs to prove himself to Charlie some more. Usually in every book series that I’ve read this has a love triangle, I know who I’m voting for and who I want the girl to pick. But in this third books, now I’m not so sure. I guess we will see who wins both Charlie and I over.

‘She is not anyone’s pawn. She is not a victim. And she’s not afraid of waking up anymore.’

Atta girl. You fix that crown on your head darlin. You may not have the title of ‘princess’ anymore, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t one.

‘But people rarely say the words written on their hearts.’

5/5 Stars!

This is my favorite book of the series so far. My favorite side character from A Whisper in the Dark has officially been promoted to being a main character, and some things I’ve been hoping would happen finally did. The character interactions fleshed out the story around the mysteries—yep, plural—Charlie is investigating. I can’t say more without giving spoilers.

There is definitely at least 1 twist I didn’t see coming (which is rare, and always enjoyable as a reader), and I am very impatient for Charlie to get deeper into her investigations (with a certain vampire at her side).

That being said, I think for the first time ever, the cliffhanger for this book didn’t immediately launch me into the final volume (for now) of the Charlie Travesty serial: A Sacrifice in the Smoke, but I’m still very excited for it.

WHHAATTT!!!!!! This has been my favorite installment so far...Jessi and K.J. are killing it with these cliffhanger endings and they're tearing me apart, haha.

They did an excellent job keeping the story moving forward and capturing the reader with their characters. Noah...just...that is all...(*grabby hands*) I have high hopes for him for the ending but I'm a bit terrified of what the authors might do to him.

Minus a few spelling errors or misplaced words, it was a fantastically exciting and quick-paced installment. I read it in one sitting!

The most devastating part about reading this book was that it ended. Each instalment adds another mystery and layer to the world building. As much as I enjoy that, I want some of the threads to start unravelling . I wish this serial was longer, each part could be a full length novel, and I think Charlie is great, she is lost, but she tries. She isn't overly stupid, but understands that she is way over her head and that she needs to start keeping up.
There a lot more Noah in this book which I cannot complain about (y) (y)

ofc there is a cliffhanger ending, which is driving me insane, but I cannot wait to get my hands on the final instalment

this is my favourite of the five serials. the drunk hotel scene, the soap shop scene, the secret waterfall.... this is also the first time noah forrest lets her in kinda. we see his soft and caring side. noah forrest, the man you are.... yet to be outdone by another. im still in mourning we never got his story. his comments about alexander alludes to context we are missing, context we will never get. im sad

This book took what I thought I knew about Charlie Travesty and flipped it on its head! In the very best way, of course.

A Memory in the Flame is the third volume of the Charlie Travesty serial and as I said about the last one, this is my favorite one yet! There is so much tension in this volume. Tension between the humans and vampires. Tension between Charlie and Noah. Tension between Charlie and all the cases she’s investigating. If you want a story with high stakes – this is IT.

In this volume of the serial, we come to see that there is more to all of the characters than we originally thought. We see more sides to everyone and it really expounds on each of the characters. You see more of their views on the world they’re living in and the trials they’re dealing with on a daily basis.

Speaking of the world they’re living in – we also get to see a lot more of it. The longer this story goes on, the more this city seems to expand and I love getting to see all the sides of it.

Charlie’s past always plays a bigger part in this volume and I think you’ll find that as much as her past has shaped her, it’s also still changing Charlie on a daily basis. Making her more the character that she was always meant to be – the character you’ve always hoped her to be.

BE WARNED! This serial does leave you with a cliff hanger. It probably wouldn’t be near as delicious if it didn’t! You’ll be begging for the next and final volume in the Charlie Travesty serial. So, be sure to pick it up as soon as you possibly can!

Needless to say, this volume earns 5 stars from me!

Thanks again to the authors for providing me with a free eARC in exchange for this honest review!

This one was really good. I especially like how the ending played out. The reason I've been giving these four stars instead of five is that sometimes things can get cheesy, and when things get either really cheesy or cringey, I kind of get taken out of the story for a moment.

I'm loving the plot. This volume was good. I love Charlie's and Noah's chemistry. Though it's short.

Future me here: The premise of this series is promising, but due to publication issues, the series remains incomplete. Read it at your own risk.
