A growing rebellion. A friendship destroyed by tragedy. A twisted betrayal.
Charlie Travesty has barely had a moment to catch her breath. From the moment she left the mansion, she’s been wrapped up in danger and drama. She has learned about herself and grown in ways she never could have expected. She’s fallen for the right guy and the wrong one.
Teaming up with Noah Forrest is her only option to get the insight she needs to uncover the vampire venom dealing within the royal family. The more they work together, though, the harder it is for Charlie to keep her thoughts from wandering back to the kiss they shared moments before the world imploded.
But after a deadly weeper attack, Charlie is left shredded with loss and forced to swallow the bitter taste of betrayal when her world is again flipped upside down.

I'm still undecided as to how I feel about this series. It's fast paced and entertaining, however I find that too much of the action is glossed over in favour of endless paragraphs centering on Charlie and her love triangle, and a pointless (but also very steamy and well written) sex scene. I enjoyed the mystery elements, but they are wrapped up far too quickly without any real payoff and the various twists just left me cold rather than invoking any kind of emotional response. Everyone just feels very one note and bland. I need more of a build up, more of a connection to this world and these people, and I just don't think that can ever be achieved in a 100 page story.
I will read on, if only for the quick pace and the fact that it would only take me an hour or two to complete, but this series really needs to start giving me some pay off for my time.
I can safely safe that I am a sucker for the dystopian world that Jessi and Kelsey have created. Charlie's character development was such an absolute joy to read about. While I am usually not a huge fan of love triangles, I was INVESTED in this one. I need more.
This was a good close until we get #5 in the series, in my opinion. I think the dream at the beginning was cheesy, weird, kinda a waste of time, awkward, but... That's just me. Other than that, the reveal at the end was awesome. I enjoyed my short time reading these!
!!!!! That's pretty much all my brain can do right now. The last volume was all action and this one is all feeling. I'm torn apart, friends. So many emotions and not enough space for them. I can't even begin to imagine how to survive until summer 2021 when the next volume will be released.
My heart hurts. RTC when I'm not mad at Jessi and Kelsey anymore. 😭😂
Also, for future purposes, it's Noah FORREST, not Foster. 😌🥂
*Oprah shows up* You get a Travesty. And you get a Travesty. AND you get a Travesty.
There was too much going on in this volume. I told yall serials were basically tv shows in word form.
Seriously, thank you so much to both Kelsey Sutton and Jessi Elliott for allowing me to read arcs of Charlie Travesty and for letting me help promote it. Though, I'm not sure how much I actually helped with all my sjskaksksing. 😅💖
I got an arc. You heard it! Thanks to Miss Jessi Elliott.
S- summer 2021? That's... so far away. And that cliffhanger. (Are we surprised? No.) I had a grin slapped on my face because I was RIGHT. But that ending was glorious. There is so much potential. This could easily become a strong ass series. This is only the beginning.
The investigations were solved way too quickly and too conveniently. I would have liked some more turmoil and questioning. Too straight- forward. Way too straight-forward. *cough*Noah*cough*
I want to talk more but it would spoil everything so hmu if you wanna discuss
Pre-review: If we don't get Noarlie endgame or a Noarlie scene, keep it. period.
mmmYasssssss this was amazing from start to end. It was all i wanted from Noah and Charlie.... The Vampires are portrayed so great, the whole " weeper" aka zombie is very interesting and we get full insight who is causing trouble. The Romance and steam was on point, and lets just say a certain chapter will have you " dreaming" and wanting more. I loved the approach of writing style the authors took here, it held your attention and captivated you. cant wait to see where the Charlie Travesty takes us next! i recommend this book .
Seconds tick by, marked only by every anticipatory inhale and conflicted exhale.
That's not only a quote from the book but a description of me reading it as well. Holy hell. I gonna be perfectly honest, this gets four stars for the sheer tension. That scene in the car? And then... that other one? And then ending just like that? Together Jessi and Kelsey create a steaminess level that is off the charts.
I realize this doesn't really help a potential reader very much so I gonna try and get it together. The fourth installment of Charlie Travesty is the last one for right now and there's quite a lot going on. Charlie is feeling torn between her desire for vampire bounty hunter Noah and her lingering feelings for the human Drew. Around her the city is in turmoil as rebels make it clear that they are not happy with the Vampire King Alexander Travesty. Together with Noah Charlie is getting closer to figuring out who's behind it all.
I'm gonna be clear, the romance is were this series shine but the gritty dystopian setting provides an interesting and fun backdrop that adds to the general dark atmosphere. I pretty much thought I knew how this story was going to go, but I was surprised quite a few times in A Sacrifice in the Smoke and I'm really glad it didn't turn out to be as predictable as I thought. The political/mystery plot isn't that developed and you know, I wouldn't really stay around for that, but if you go into this looking for a romantic plot and an overall cool atmosphere I don't think you will be disappointed. I find myself pleasantly surprised by Charlie's journey. I kind of enjoy that she isn't necessary a hero but someone just trying to survive. I also appreciate that the characters in general stay true to character, for example even if Noah may show some softer sides he's still gonna do it in his Noah way.
The ending is the kind that leaves you wanting more (quite literally, my kindle showed I was 80% in but the rest was sneak peaks, acknowledgements and the like) and it seems like we'll get it! I want to end this review by saying that Jessi and Kelsey make really good writing partners. By now I have read two books from them each but I think Charlie Travesty is my favorite, it feels like I can see a bit of both of them in this and they complement each other really well.
And thanks for providing me with and ARC to review!
YALL HOLD UP FOR A MINUTE. IF YOU HAVENT BEEN READING THIS SERIES I REALLY ReAlLy DONT KNOW WHAT YOUVE BEEN DOING. VAMPIRES, ROYALS, ROMANCE, MYSTERY, SUSPENSE, BETRAYAL, AND OH HOT VAMPIRE MEN THAT TAKE THE WIN. Actually not just hot vampire men also women bc damn Sylvia😳😍😍 and of course our smol boi Noah👏🏻👏🏻😍 ••• Kelsey and Jessi are telling me I have to wait almost a year for the next fricking volume?? I literally do not have the patience for that right now. I will sell my souls to beta read for you again and make this the beat fricking book release of summer 2021. No joke. I’m serious. Kelsey you know how serious I am. About this for Charlie Travesty and Deadly Dreams. Just saying. ••• This was a whirlwind and I feel cheated bc it ends at 75% and the rest is excerpts for their books😭😭 I was prepared to have another 20ish minutes of Noah Forrest and Charlie😭😭 you know I still love you two but HOW COULD YOU. Also just putting this out there A FRICKING FAMILY TREE WOULD BE EXTREMELY HELPFUL RIGHT NOW. I MIGHT GO CRAZY AND END UP REREADING ALL FOUR VOLUMES AND ATTEMPT TO PIECE TOGETHER A FAMILY TREE MYSELF.
Again with the cliff hangers. I can’t believe I have to wait a whole year before we get the next installment.
Kelsey and Jessi did a good job keeping the tension high with this episode and really hitting you in the feels. Can’t wait to cry again next year when we get to continue reading.
This volume of the Charlie Travesty serial was everything I wanted + SO much more!
I cannot tell you enough how much I love Charlie Travesty and her story. I’m sad to say goodbye to the story for a whole year because it’s been such a light in the dark for me. I will never stop shouting from the rooftops how much this is like no other vampire story I’ve ever read. And I doubt it’s like any you’ve ever read either. When you think Charlie Travesty, it is synonymous with sexy, dark, baby vampire (if you’ve read it, you’ll get that reference).
After reading all four serials, I can’t decide whether I’m more in love with the characters or the world. They’re both so amazing. If you’re looking for a dark urban fantasy, this is the story you need to be reading. The world unfolds with each new volume and its intricacies keep you both intrigued and curious all at the same time. Each new sector draws you in and gives you a different taste of the world.
My heart really flutters when I think of all the amazing characters. You have Charlie herself who has been ever-changing throughout the entire serial and she’s finally evolved into the character you always hoped she would be from the very beginning. You really can’t help but be proud of her. Then there’s Drew and Noah. Normally, I’m not thrilled by love triangles. But this one keeps you guessing so much that you can’t help but find yourself loving how well-done this trope is. Plus, NOAH FREAKING FORREST! That’s just the tip of the iceberg with characters you meet in this story. There’s the vampire king, Drew’s sister Nina, and the rest of Charlie’s found family. They really make the story what it is. There’s not a single character that I didn’t enjoy seeing take up page time.
This volume held so many surprises I hadn’t expected. And the story wrapped up in a way I could never complain about. It was just so good! I truly hope if you’re looking for a new vampire read, that you pick up this serial because it is more than worth your time! You’ll adore it from beginning to end.
I wanted to take a second to tell anyone though that be warned, there is very graphic, intensive sex scenes in the books. I think they really added to the story, but if it’s not your thing, maybe steer clear of this one. Otherwise, I’m recommending it wholeheartedly and giving it every bit of the 5 stars it deserves. Thanks so much to Jessi Elliott & K.J. Sutton for providing me with free eARCs of all these books to enjoy and review. I greatly appreciate it and can’t wait to get my hands on the full bind up!
"Death is for the supporting cast, princess," he murmurs, his mouth at my ear. "You and I, we're going to live forever."
A Sacrifice in the Smoke concludes the start of what is to be an incredibly addicting Vampire series. The rebellion is growing. Secrets come to light. And I just want to read more of Charlie Travesty. But seriously, what do you mean summer 2021!? The good news is, this is only the beginning. In A Whisper in the Dark, we met Princess Charlotte Travesty, loved daughter of the Vampire King. Now, after everything she has gone through, we know Charlie, an expendable Lavender trying to survive. I liked Charlie since the first, well, probably the second chapter. And it didn't take long after that for me to love and root for her. Seriously, can her life get any worst? Poor Charlie just keeps getting involved with her annoying royal family. And with a rebellion in the rising, things can only get more dangerous for her. Thankfully she has Noah, a vampire bounty hunter, who only gets cuter and cuter. There's also Drew. He's okay, I guess, but not a great help given the situation. Charlie Travesty just brings surprise after surprise, and this installment was no exception. I was so lucky to stumble upon this series, for it has become one of my favorites.
OMG THE REVELATION OF SYLVIA!!!! OMGGGGG. I’m seriously trying to decide if Noah actually saved her or if he has ulterior motives. I’m so sad that they never got a chance to fully be together AND that I have to wait a whole year for the next book. But I am surprisingly amazed. It was my first book by these authors & I can honestly say I’m excited to read their individual works.
I really like the world, the characters and the pending romance. There was a smut scene that was EVERYTHING! So well written, I hope there will be more of that. One critic so far is that there were a few things going on with no connections (so far) and it felt very surface level, I wanted more depth to it. Overall, I really enjoyed binge reading this and I can not wait for the next book!
This was my favourite instalment of the series so far, the revelations, the consequences! I had literal goosebumps reading this and my heart dropped so many times. AND THE ENDING!!!! 2021 is too far away for the next instalment!
This was a fast paced portion of the novel but I felt as though it was too short and ended too quickly for me. I do like where this is going and I'm eager for the next installment.
I received an ARC of the book and omg! I read all the books in two days. I could not put them down. This book is amazing and I so need 2021 to come along. I need to know what happens next. If you have not read the series please do. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
I just binged all the books up to this point. Though I think the second book is my favourite for the Charlie and Drew ship, I think this one is my favourite for different reasons. It had me sexually frustrated, then crying, then giddy with relief at the last moment.
I’ve got to say, I’m just bitter about the cliffhanger and one year wait until the release of the next part of this serial. I effing hate starting an unfinished series and I purposefully check before I start to make sure a series is over. With four parts having been released in quick succession, I assumed the serial was either complete, or at the very least was being released in one month intervals. Not only is it incomplete, but we are left with a raging cliffhanger and no new release until the summer of 2021.
I get that the authors aren’t machines, and of course nobody wants a crappy continuation pushed out too quickly, but PLEASE give your readers some idea of a release timeline in your blurb instead of dropping it like a massive turd at the end of the book.
