Rommel has landed at Newcastle on the north coast of England. Russia and Germany have signed a cease fire. All of the Luftwaffe is free to support Rommel. The British forces are focused on the south coast of England. Can America supply the men and materials needed in time to defend England.? Can the British forces hold? Can Britain stand?
With Rommel's tank divisions is a SS unit with one mission. Destroy Alconbury and Task Force Yankee.
Commodore Samantha Hunt's Task Force Yankee has three operational F-14 Tomcats. But, she has a secret weapon. The tank killing A-10 Warthog is in theater.
It’s a fun series, but it doesn’t appear anybody proofread prior to publication. For example, it is Thach Weave, not “thatch” as repeatedly used. Further, annoying inability to correctly use their/there/they’re, or you/your/you’re.
Apart from such examples, the stories are fun and fanciful.
Once again the plot was reasonably sound but was let down time and time again by it’s sometimes bizarre use of film script prose and abysmal English and incorrect rank designations.
I have purchased and read all four books in this series due to my interest in the characters and the interactions between the people from the future and the 'downtimers' . The problem I had was really glaring in this latest book. Either there was no real editing or an incompetent editor. I can deal with the occasional wrong character name in the wrong place , even a time or technical error . Apparently twenty years in the Navy caused brain damage because the Navy does not have and has never had Dress Greens as a uniform . Not in 1942 nor since . I hate getting thrown out of my reading zone by screaming inconsistencies. It's like having a phonograph record 'skip' and screech. I don't know how you read but I don't see words on a page I see what is being described better than a movie. Getting ejected at least once per chapter ( some more than once ) is NOT GOOD ! Get some beta readers and a proofreader at least.
I've enjoyed the series so far , and then ...we reach The UK. The Home Guard sends 15 year old kids to die on the landing beaches .Unprofessional British soldiers argue with heroic American jet pilots about possible blue on blue bombing runs .Heroic American Pilot wins argument ...British Oick doffs cap and now thoroughly in his place ...says sorry .German Aces , who in real life listed kills in the hundreds ...fall from the sky every few seconds .Anyway , I know it's a what if book so enjoy the first 3 , hopefully enjoy this one , drop me a line with what happens in the end .At the moment I've a fiver on the UK becoming a state of America where we spend our days chatting in a slightly bizarre Bart Simpson British accent "penny for ya gum , yank "....etc etc .
I feel like I should be reciting beginning of MASH. Join the Air wing Yankee, fight over Englad, outsmart the Germans, Great series, moves very fast. I've fallen for the characters follow each one.
A view of what a World War might be like with modern technology.
This war is fought in 1942, but is very different from WWII actual. It held my attention as few stories do. And there are still more stories of this war to read.
Great read. Love the series. The horror of war and the hearts of the people in the military are characterized as i hope they really are. Being old enough to remember the history taught in school makes facts and fiction come to life.
Really starting to get into this series the fighting tomcats, I can’t recommend it highly enough, I don’t want to give any plot details away but think the final countdown movie plus top gun pus a good old fashioned WWII movie, super stuff,
England is invaded and the Germans move swiftly and brutally to conquer the whole country. The planes of the US Navy are the last-ditch defense against the Nazi invasion led by Erwin Rommel. The technology and equipment race is carefully orchestrated to be logical, creative, and paramount to maintaining this fascinating alternate history story.
