It is about two people who find themselves in Vegas for very different reasons, and embroil themselves in the lights, the life, the ‘reels and wheels’, and each other. Las Vegas is not just a backdrop, it is a living breathing character with its own story. This story may be fictional but the world that Vig and Gina inhabit is very real; it is the world of fixed fights, poker cheats, bad markers, thrown ballgames, counterfeit money, nazi memorabilia, and an exploding hotel. And that's just the stuff thats true...
A story that's really about vintage Las Vegas rather than any of the characters within it
It has some solid ideas in it - but it just doesn't gel.
The whole book feels like it really needed an editor or publisher to keep pushing the author to keep re-writing and polishing until the story was as good as it could be.
I appreciate the idea of the book - but it was ultimately a disappointment
In this novel the author mixes real elements with fiction to show how the city of Las Vegas was in the 60's, 70's and 80's. In the plot there are poker games and fixed boxing fights, mobsters, sports betting and scams, among other topics. A little more than 200 pages that fly by. I would like to read more of David in the future.
