Leigh Myer is a trauma nurse practitioner who is not happy going through the motions of her daily life. When a friend offers up her mountain cabin for a relaxing vacation, Leigh packs her bags. She’s never been to the mountains and certainly never in heavy snow. A chance meeting with a fish and wildlife officer turns her idea of a quiet, relaxing vacation…upside down.
Camden Gorely loves her job and loves the mountain she works and lives on even more. She’s tired of having flings with vacationers who visit for days or weeks at a time, until she meets the elusive nurse from the city.
Can Leigh stop running from her past and allow real love into her heart?
3.3 stars This was a nice read. I had some trouble getting into the story, the beginning of the book dragged a bit for me. Then the pace of the story picked up and I quite enjoyed reading it. I think that the problems in the past of both mains were resolved a little too easily and fast. And the ending could have been a little less rushed, but these things didn’t bother me much. Both mc’s and the supporting characters in this novel were likeable people and I found it very interesting to read a little about the work of a wildlife officer. Graysen’s description of the landscape and the animals that formed the setting of the story was attractive.
A general run of the mill lesfic, set in a winter wonderland of a hallmark-esque snow town in Vermont. You've got the stereotypical ladies who have been hurt before, shying away from the connection they share, as they adventure in this idyllic town - until they can't deny the attraction anymore. There's a black moment mid-way, which I preferred IF there has to be one - and at least the rest of the novel is them finding their way back to each other and disclosing hurts and secrets.
Nothing bad, but nothing unique here. Just a generally good read with the classic formula.
There is something naive about Greysen's writing & I'm not sure if it's sweet or annoying. The story is simple & I read to the end - even if she "lied down" - for somehow the promise of a good story eased out of the book.
Real Love is a beautiful story about two women with a lot of baggage. One is a city girl and the other lives in a small town. A cabin getaway to get her life in order turns out to be the beginning of healing your heart. This story embodied all that I love in a romance; strong characters with heart and depth, friends you can rely on, gorgeous setting, family, chemistry and of course a HEA. Real Love is written very descriptively so I could easily visualized the mountains, the wildlife and the natural beauty of the state. For me it was a perfect romance and I totally recommend Real Love.
I took this one as a recommendation and I could not get onboard. I found the story telling choppy and had some challenges with the story itself and the characters. I really wasn’t a fan of the dialogue. It felt like a telenovela being translated. There were also several grammar issues and typos. I’m the furthest from a grammar cop so for me to catch them says something.
Two emotionally damaged women find each other on a Vermont mountain. This is a gorgeous slow burn love story between a beautiful nurse practitioner and a "handsome" wildlife officer. I really enjoyed reading about the rescues. This is a riveting book! 5 stars!
I’m sorry to say this is not Morgen’s best work. It’s kind of choppy and is not well edited. Has a number of glaring grammatical errors (it’s PUS not PUSS). That kind of stuff drives me crazy. I don’t remember her other books being like this. Pretty disappointing.
I think this is the best book Graysen Morgen has ever written. At least it’s for me. Both MC‘s are lovable and how they both dealt with their difficult past and didn’t rush into things was very believable. I couldn’t put it down and totally recommend this book.
This was a well written story by Morgen. Camden the Fish and Wildlife officer and Leigh the trauma Nurse Practitioner from the city were vert well developed main characters. Leigh being a city girl gets rescued by Camden several times which in turn starts the development of their love relationship.
The supporting cast Uncle Pa, Aunt Ma, Heather, Baker, and the miríad of adorably cute baby animals that get rescued by Camden just takes it to the top. Very good story!
Morgen did a fantastic job at keeping my interest and not wanting to put the book down. Each protagonist had different jobs but with one goal; keeping people safe and alive. Either the author has experience being a wildlife officer and or a nurse, or they did one hell of a research for these job titles for the characters, because the details were amazing. Each page was riveting and not once lulled me into a bored stupor. I liked how the two main characters started off as friends and turned to lovers. It wasn't a slow burn, but it was enough to create tension with a sexy build-up. That first kiss was just as unexpected for me as it was for the protagonist. I squealed like a girl, then I went back and re-read it, squealing all over again. The sex was sweet and not too explicit. Both protagonists had suffered a lot from their pasts and it took a good portion of the book to finally learn why they were the way they were. I was blindsided at the mention of abuse toward one of the characters. Honestly, I didn't see any signs or hints along the way until it was casually brought up as a private thought through the other protagonist. It shocked me and as I reflected back on the previous part of the story, I still couldn't see any signs that she had been abused. So, I'm not sure the author wanted it to be a surprise or they simply failed at showing us, the reader, the aftermath of trauma a person burdens once they've been abused.
4.5 for the lack of story toward the abuse in the beginning.
This is lovely book to pick up for a quick light read. It touches on some heavy topics, but it never feels heavy. It keeps its focus on the romance first and foremost. Most importantly, it has everything you want in a lesbian romance: love, acceptance, angst, drama, and---sexy leading ladies!
I enjoyed both of the main characters. They were interesting and believable. Leigh Myer is painted as a smart, All-American beauty with blond hair and blue eyes. She's seen some tough times, but she's a real survivor. She comes to a small picturesque town in the mountains of Vermont for some rest and relaxation, but what she really finds is love.
Camden Gorely is everything you'd dream of in a partner. She turns heads wherever she goes. The problem, however, is she is more interested in her job than finding someone to settled down with and share a life. All that changes on a icy mountain road in the middle of a Vermont winter. While conducting a routine traffic stop, warning Leigh to slow down, Cam realizes she might want something more out of life than one night stands with vacationers and snow bunnies.
I enjoyed this book. Real Love is a solid romance, start to finish. It's a splendid book to cuddle up with and lose yourself in for a few hours. If you like digging into good, old-fashioned romances, then this is the perfect book for you.
I never read any books by this author and I bought going by the good reviews. The book has a tender story, it takes place in the mountains of Vermont and it is very descriptive of the woods, the wildlife and the scenery. A nurse, who in a previous relationship, was abused, seeks peace and a new environment in a cabin in the woods. Camden, the wildlife officer is a lonely woman who has short affairs with tourists. The book held my interest mostly, but to me it was drawn out. It was still a short book, so on and on it went with injured animals, I was kind of bored and I love animals. The book is an OK read, a three star for me.
Small pet-peeve, the author picked a real town, Chester, VT. But then mashes up Okemo Mountain in neighboring Ludlow (I'm guessing) with a fictional "Chester Mountain". Chester's historic feature are the granite-stone houses in Chester Depot. And Fish & Game officers usually have a wider range than just 1 town of 3,000 people.
Enjoyable vacation/change-of-scenery romance. The main characters are mature, a bit tattered around the edges, women who find each other and happiness. There is a good cast of secondary characters to help flesh out their respective personalities and bring the story to life. Very nice read.
Such a great book, loved the relationship between the two leads! Very glad that I stumbled across the author! Will definitely be reading more of her work!
