OK what the fuck just happened?
Like seriously?
There's a limit to how much you can stretch and drag a story before it starts to grate on your nerves and I think Amelia Hutchins found a way to expand that limit.
The author started out so good with strong and sassy characters but it slowly just morphed into a bunch of C-grade drama with no purpose.
description
Like what exactly was the point of the story?
All the pain Synthia was put through was not properly justified and moreover, everyone who put her through pain was not properly punished. (*cough* Ryder *cough*).
And the whole Danu was always an evil, selfish bitch?
description
Where is that coming from all of a sudden? The author showed us two sides to Danu throughout the series, saying that she is neither good nor bad, but that she is trying and yet now all of a sudden, she's the Wicked Witch of the West? Just because the author need to find a way to end the story?
This honestly reminds me a lot of the show 'Lost'.
description
The writers started so well, but it was obvious they had no ending planned and then they dropped the ball. I mean, this is the last book of a seven book series and we still don't get a satisfying conclusion? Nooooooo instead the book ends in cliffhanger with the perfect backdrop for Kahleena's story next which I don't particularly care about right now.
After a certain point, Synthia doesn't seem like a strong woman anymore, she seems like a doormat.
description
Did she let everyone hurt her so that she could become stronger or because she didn't have the balls to take revenge? If Aelin Galathynius' husband ever did something like that to her she'd roast him alive over a fire burning with all his prized possessions. Just saying.

For everyone that powered through this clusterfuck of a series, I commend you!
I started out intrigued and eager in book 1 (not always on board with some stuff, but Syn was badass soI was like, sign me up) then book 2 and 3 were decent and had a storyline, I was also on board with nr 4, but 5-7? WTF?!

"About the hero: blah blah blah... but I promise you will love him by the end of this series" - ok, it's the end of the series and I'm still waiting. I don't love Ryder, I don't even like him. Maybe I don't loathe and despise him so much anymore but that's all.

I am disappointed with Synthia. Why she didn't punish Ryder for everything what he did to her? Because she loved him? She loved someone who didn't exist. He was lying to her from the start, pretending he was someone else. She was made to be a badass but a real badasses don't let anyone treat them like trash. I don't think that Mia Corvere or Kate Daniels or Aelin Galathynius let themselves be pushed around like Synthia did, even by their spouse. They would chew them up and spit out their bones.

This series was too long and unnecessarily stretched but you know, it's all about $$$

I’m TIRED.

Really, this is how she decides to end the series? With another cliffhanger that leads to an introduction of Kahleena’s book, I’m sure.

It sucks because this author used to be my ultimate favorite— literally the QUEEN of Faery books but I just don’t know what to feel anymore because this series just keeps dragging and I JUST NEED RYDER AND SYN TO HAVE A HAPPILY EVER FUCKING AFTER.

It’s just so frustrating because I expected more out of her. I respected the hell out of this author and this series has been GOLD, but let’s be honest. This series could have ended a book and a half ago. Like why not just end Ryder and Syn’s story peacefully (especially after all they’ve been through) and then start a separate series for the little beasties (I WOULD HAVE LOVED AND HAPPILY PAID $$$ FOR THAT, TOO).

Like give us time to decompress after undergoing through all that shit. I’m just— I’m tired and done with this author milking this without coming up with a proper resolution. LIKE GIVE US A BREAK. All I wanted was Ryder and Syn (literally my two favorite characters) to get their happily ever after and I won’t be getting that in this book. So disappointing.

Crowning Destiny is the final book in The Fae Chronicles. Synthia and Ryder have finally reached their happily ever after. Or have they? In this last book, they face complete rejection and loss as they struggle through the consequences of the choices they have made. The love they share for each other is nothing short of chaos! They have both been through hell (literally), and now that they are at the final battle, they will have to find a way through the darkness together.

Told in dual POV, Crowning Destiny certainly brought on the feels as both main characters make some questionable choices throughout this final instalment. I felt passionate about them finding their way through and yet felt very disappointed in some of the twists and bumps along their journey. No matter how the story unfolded, I could not help but be in awe of how this world has continuously grown and morphed into a magical place that offered me an escape like no other!

Overall, Crowning Destiny will appeal to fans of The Fae Chronicles. For those naysayers, I say keep scrolling. Amelia Hutchins is a truly gifted author and an absolute go-to for me. No matter what she is writing or how long it takes to make a release, I am truly in awe of her work. I look forward to more Synthia and Ryder, and even though many of her works intertwine (and cause a bit of whiplash), I would not want it any other way. #Ryder4Eva!

I tried. Honestly, I did try.

Even though book 5 was a let down for me, I had to finish this series because I absolutely loved the first three books. Unfortunately it didn't get better. It got worse.

I'm sorry but what happened to them? Their story was completely ruined.

What they did to each other? And themselves?

Then the plot?

Let's not forget how they talked and acted in front of their children. Their children. And that ending.

What happened? Seriously. I want to know how this series can go from awesome to crash and burn. This was so disappointing. I stand by my original assessment from book 5, in that I should've quit with book 4. This was so depressing.

I think after having read the last three books in this series, I will not be reading anymore of her books. I am sorry for this harsh review, I just can't trust her as an author now.

Sigh. How to approach this. No matter what I do, I'm going to be condemned for it, so I might as well jump in.
Good news first! There are only 27 proofreading/editing errors, so yay! So much improvement! The word flesh is only used 39 times. Such restraint is shown that it didn't bug me in the least. I barely noticed it. So excellent work! Pretty fares a little worse at 47 times, but it's still not bad. There are worse words to have repeated. The editing is better overall, although I did find a few instances where the editor should have caught something ("It's our happily ever after fucked up after"). Things like that shouldn't make it through to publication.
When you set up a word to be capitalized, like the Horde, it should remain capitalized throughout the book, unless you're talking about a horde of a different sort, like a horde of bees. So that was a problem, because it was capped in all the books thus far, and not capped in this one except for a couple of instances.
Those quibbles aside, the mechanics of editing and proofreading have improved drastically.

Now let's get to content. Because, hoo. There are a lot of characters in the series. A LOT. And they all showed up here. Unfortunately, not to great advantage. Hutchins would have done better to weed some of them out entirely and perhaps use them in future books, since she basically cliffhangered this mother. Which in a finale book, is all kinds of messed up. If it's the finale, let it be an ending. Then bring in the new characters in a later book. But no, we get a cliffhanger.

I think a lot of the trouble with indie authors is that they've been given a rich mythology provided by authors such as Laurell Hamilton, Ilona Andrews, Karen Marie Moning, J.R. Ward, et al, from which they draw new tropes. Basically, it's thinly disguised fan fiction. I'm not talking about plagiarism, which NO ONE has committed here, but maybe a bit of laziness. Hamilton first dreamed up the fairies with the tri-colored eyes, and AH uses that. Ward had, maybe not the first gang of studly, virile men as a cohesive group, but certainly most famously. And we find that here. Moning thought of the brands representing various castes of faerie, although she calls it something different. I don't think the new indie authors are trying to copy anything, but maybe if they dug a little deeper they could come up with something more original. But then, a lot of people like that those stories are taken to a different place by a new author, so maybe it's not so bad.
When I was a kid I was fascinated by fairy tales. Today's kids are fascinated by Star Wars. The stories are still being told, they're just another layer away from the original. There is nothing new under the sun, after all.
Beyond that, Hutchins seems to forget who her characters were in the beginning. We see a glimpse of Syn as a 17-year-old, which is huge fun, and brings a breath of freshness to the story. Then she's gone, and we're left with the stale trope she's become. And all the talk. All the declarations of undying love. Oy. Enough already. We get it. You love each other. At this point, these long declarations don't need to go on and on for two pages. Neither does how kick ass Syn is. We know she's a goddess. We know Ryder is a god. They've got power. Why aren't they using it better?
And speaking of Ryder as a god, this is what you call deus ex machina. We go along for how many books now? And suddenly he's a god? Really? Well, he's a lousy one, because he could have stopped all the badness before it ever got anywhere a long time ago.
And Malachai? Don't get me started. After all these books, you're going to pull another god out of the machine? However, some of the best moments were between Malachai and Syn, so maybe I shouldn't complain. Theirs was the most real emotional connection, and they'd had it less than 4 days.
One gets the distinct impression that Hutchins was trying desperately to find a way to make everything fit, so she made up stuff to try to relate to the old stuff, and it ended up just gumming up the works. Basically, there was no plan in place for the books. They've grown organically, without a plan in place as to how to end them. The story doesn't arc so much as it just faceplants against all the new material we're expected to buy. That's a problem.
It's damned hard to write a finale that everyone will like. Half the people don't want it to end, half are ready for it to end but on their terms, and another half (yes I know) are just utterly confused by the whole mess. I've read all the books. I have. I suffered through the Elite Guards books. I read all the Monsters and others. This is the simple fact- Hutchins tried to do too much with too many characters, didn't stay true to who some of those characters were (Syn and Ryder), and with herculean effort attempted to tie up all the threads.
Well you can't. Monsters isn't finished yet. You can't complete that series with this. I don't think that was the intention, but why bother with those characters here? Ryder and Syn should have been enough to hold their own story. They had plenty of firepower between them, there was no need to muddy the waters with all these other characters. They would have been fun as drop-ins, but not as part of the denouement.

There was less sex in this book, and it was surprisingly nice. No rape-y BDSM shit. However, it was all in the beginning of the book, so that part dragged waiting for folks to have sex. But we get it, they couldn't keep their hands off each other. Yay.

Continuity errors: Ryder's wings have been described thus far in the series as Leathery, Feathery, Massive, Sharp-edged, and then, inexplicably, GOSSAMER. I don't think gossamer means what you think it does. And what do Syn's wings look like? We get Shimmering, transparent about halfway through the book. That's not a terribly good description. But at least hers could be described as GOSSAMER.

There's a lot of wrongness that's been fixed in CD. But there's still a lot that needs to be done. A few good writing classes could go a long way toward helping Hutchins become the best-selling mainstream author she deserves to be. But she needs more writing experience.

That light? The end of the freaking tunnel of this Fae Universe of Assholes.

Yes. Free at last. Free at last. I don't have to read another book of this universe anymore. If there's another book coming out - please keep it to yourself. There's is no need to mention it to me because it will gladly go in one ear and out the other. I have zero desire to read another book. Zero.

That being said, Crowning Destiny was painful. At least for me. Did I like getting vibes of the old Syn? Yes, of course - I'm not a complete monster. Yet, Ryder had to be an idiot over and over again.. and I just lost interest overall. Well, I'm pretty sure I lost interest after book 4 but I'm an idiot and tortured myself with this entire thing. So I can only blame myself... for now.

In the end, I'm done. Completely done. I'd like to thank all the wine that was purchased in order to get me through this universe book by book. You are the real MVP in this. Truly. Also Advil was a team player with getting rid of my "migraine" in the morning (from all the drinking).

Before I get into this, I have to say something.

After I posted this review, I scrolled down to see what others thought, and came across something that made me very upset.

Reviewers "ShelliP" and "PinkReads" gave this this book one star. That isn't the problem. It was their written reviews. Word for word the same. They were not very short reviews either. They were "copy and paste" the exact same review. ShelliP's review is hidden under spoilers so you don't see them both at the same time. However, they are no doubt either fake or rehearsed reviews and put there by reasons other than honesty. I checked out ShelliP's shelves and she only has a few books shelved, and they only have the exclusive shelves. I could see them having the same glowing review, thereby making it seem that someone paid to have a good review, but one-star reviews? How does this happen? Who benefits from giving an author bad review?

Now back to the review:
I admit that I was a bit worried about this book before starting it. I had become increasingly disappointed in the series, and the last book was (IMHO) not quite up to par for the series.

So, when I started this book at about 10:00 pm last night, I was very surprised and happy to see that my complaints from the previous books seemed to be “fixed” in this one. Not that I expect Amelia to have read my review and revised the book, but the problems I had been facing didn’t plague this one (with the exception of the spacing between paragraphs).

I am not going to get into details as much as the previous review, however I am going to touch on the main points. Minor spoilers ahead.

The book opens up with Cynthia believing she is seventeen and still a guild enforcer, a witch, in a coven with Adam, Lorissa, and Adrien, and she is confused as hell as to why she is in Fairy. Her last memory was being in the Guild catacombs losing her virginity to her boyfriend, Adrien., and she is at the height of her intolerance towards the fae and other creatures (vampires), she was a “good little guild hunter”.

While Adam does his best to try and convince her of the realities of their life, she is convinced he had been messed with by those evil fae standing in the corner of the room watching their exchange. Those evil fae being her husband and his brothers. Ryder finds the whole exchange amusing, and is reminded of how she was when they first met and has fun goading her about it.

The amnesia plot point wasn’t dragged out, and didn’t have any of those feelings we get when our heroes and heroine are needlessly dragged though conflicts that only serve to piss us off.

What it did do was bring back the banter between Cyn and Ryder for a couple of chapters, and add some much-needed comic relief to the book. Remember how she was at the opening of the series, all those creative curses and insults towards Ryder, well they were in abundance here.

The sex, wasn’t primary in this book. It was there, and some of it was pretty long, but it wasn’t pages and pages of sex with a bit of plot thrown in. Ryder was still a bit OTT with the dirty-talk, but it wasn’t so much that I got pissed off. However, he did wax poetic a bit much, it seemed that much of his dirty-talk had turned into love talk. It got a bit tedious, but I can’t complain about it too much because the readers needed to be sure that Ryder loved Cyn and was behind her totally. The tedious plot points of conflict between Ryder and Cyn were gone (we had new conflicts, but they were much easier to deal with).

I wasn’t lost on the plot, characters or inside jokes. If you understood what was going on in the previous book, nothing new was added, and some of the lesser characters you needed to know were missing.

What Cyn went through in the pit from the last book was a big part of this book. What she went through, and how it affected her in the present, and how she dealt with it was a major plot point. We see her POV from memories and dreams. How she and Ryder dealt with it and each other was a main focus for this book.

Of course, we have the “great war” and although it was a major part of the last book, it wasn’t such an immediate and overwhelming part of this one. This book was more about what Cyn went through in the pit, how she and Ryder dealt with it, and dealing with the preparations of going to that final battle. The actual battle scenes take place in the last 80% of the book.

Cyn and Ryder are able to get the whole picture of the sequence of events that lead them to this point, where truths were told and lies were uncovered, and the truths of their existence and purpose in life were finally revealed.

We get to see Cyn and Ryder’s kids as they grow since they show up twice. The first time they are just about to be teenagers, and at the end of the book they are in their early twenties. So, this was a nice way to grow them up for the following books, which I have no doubt will be their books.

All in all, this was a great book. I felt much better about it than the previous books, and am actually interested in re-reading it. It was as if the previous book was showing how far Cyn and Ryder had fallen as characters in general, and this book brought them back to where they should be
So, don’t stress out about reading it if you are worried about being disappointed. Also, it was definitely not the end of the series in that no further books will be written about these characters, but it buttoned up their main arc, and cleared the board for the future. In fact, the final epilogue sets up the next possible book nicely.

Note:
There are scenes of "rape and torture" but they aren't the trigger inducing kind. We relive the horrors Cyn goes through while in that pit, and there are no humans or realistic events that could possibly be equated to what someone would go through in real life. Although, Cyn's feelings on the matter are very relatable.

An epic finale but there is so much more to come.

The foundation of Amelia’s world has come to an end and it was everything. After reading book 1 I wanted Ryder to suffer and he did. I enjoyed every second of it. We find out who all the players are in this finale and, if there was ever any doubt, we now know the Gods are scheming buttheads. I have so many foul words for certain Gods but I have to keep it PG.

Ryder and Syn ended on a very rough note in book 1. Throughout book 2 we see them work on themselves to create the ultimate power couple ( for now as I’m pretty sure Lucian and Lena will be stealing that title). We see Faery break and heal mirroring Syn and Ryders journey while enjoying the steam between the sheets we’ve become addicted to as readers. AND most of all we get some serious hints as to who Lucian is and get to see both him and Spyder make some Gods tremble in fear (squeal).

I can’t wait for the next Monsters, Kahleena’s book, and more for Ristan. Syn and Ryders storyline might have hit its peak but I have no doubt we will see them in future books. I already need more. When is the next release Amelia?

I am so mad. Like pissed. I should've never picked up the sixth book. It was well written but honestly it just felt like the author was beating a dead horse. At the very least, it would've been nice to only have the six instead of seven, but it is what it is.

Mild Spoilers contained in this review. Ugh, it's so difficult to write this review. I love Syn and Ryder and this is one of my favorite series. But around book 5 the story just got too big, too complicated, just too much. You've got Celtic Fae Gods, Goddesses and Druids, you've got Heaven and Hell with Angels, Demons and Lucifer, and you've even got some Greek pantheon thrown in for good measure (I'm looking at you Thanatos). It's just a lot thrown in a series that coincides with 3 other series (Elite Guards, Monsters, and Wicked Knights). But it all started with Syn and Ryder and they are what made me fall in love with Amelia's stories. In preparation for the final 2 books of the series I did a re-read of the series including the books that are based in the same story arc (Monsters series, Elite Guard, etc.). At first I was reminded why I fell in love with Amelia, her books and her characters. But around book 5 (Unraveling Destiny) I was reminded why i stopped reading until the series was to be finished. So after catching up on the series and most of the related stories (I did not read the Wicked Knights books) I was ready to dive into Embracing Destiny (#6) and Crowning Destiny (#7).

When you have these very long complicated stories it is sometimes hard to keep continuity across the books. So I rarely pick out issues in continuity as a big detractor in a book. But here, with this one, I had a very large issue (this is where the spoiler comes in). SPOILER: In Book 6 Cailean is one of the characters that dies during the mage attacks on the different courts. It didn't make sense how that happened and in book 6 it even says "Cailean smiled sadly, shaking his head before he too vanished without an explanation of how he'd been elsewhere." But in Book 7 Cailean is alive and battling with them. I went back over both books trying to figure out if I missed anything but I couldn't find any explanation for this inconsistency. This bothered me a lot and was difficult to get past. It's not like this happened several books ago and they were released years apart. The books were released a couple of months apart and Cailean was a somewhat central side character - He was supposed to marrying Icelyn in Winters Court. So this was bothersome to me and definitely affected my rating. But to be completely honest I'm not even sure when Cailean was really noted as a brother of Ryder - which never stood out to me until I did this reread all at once. Cailean role seems to vary between the books. For example in Taunting Destiny #2 he seems to be a member of the elite guard and then in Seducing Destiny #3 He's almost killed as he was protecting Syn from Faolan when she was birthing the babies. In Seducing Destiny she asks the Blood King why he was still protecting her and it is answered that he was part of Faolan's guard but he hadn't been reassigned. Syn asks for him to be a guardian for her children and the Blood King grants Cailean to her and the Horde Kingdom. But then in Winter's Court he's one of Ryder's brothers that has been betrothed to a lesser kingdom. All of this to say, at least when it comes to Cailean there does not appear to be any consistency across the books. But the biggest issue in consistency was the difference between book 6 and 7.

We start this book with Syn who has lost her memories and has reverted back to her 17 year old self. That was a bit entertaining and probably one of my favorite parts. But after a while she gets her memory back and it's hard for me to understand how the Syn we know and love would end up forgiving Ryder so easily - yes, it was only 3 days for him, but for her it's been 20 years. Yes she eventually learns that what she thought happened did not. But it's was a difficult idea to swallow that she would forgive and move on so quickly. The whole concept of what happened and the rationale behind it was very difficult for me but that's for the Book 6 review.

This book wraps up the mage war story arch. But there's still so much left unanswered which will come in other books - Like what is the deal with Lucian (Monster series still has at least 1 book), what is Ristan's destiny, and why oh why did it end the way it did with a lead off into another spin off for Syn and Ryder's daughter? Couldn't it just end with Syn and Ryder having at least one day to relax and celebrate? That really is just a personal preference, but I am finding that as a reader I have had a change in preference for series. I used to love really long series but now I find that the longer the series the more likely i am to become disappointed in the series with later books ruining the whole series for me. I fear that may happen if we can't get some resolution and closure with all of these characters.

Ultimately the book was okay. I don't think it was the great ending that these characters deserved but the book wasn't horrible either. It was just okay. Which is what I often find myself saying about Amelia's books lately. The first 4 books were amazing and now they've just become okay. If you are a fan of the series you should still go ahead and read it but I don't know if I would recommend the series to a friend now.

I am begging you... GET A BETTER EDITOR! The amount of times I skimmed through Syn and Rider’s long paragraphs declaring their love for each other... god. Not to mention their flirting/ dirty talk where literally everyone can hear them. This book should’ve been more plot, less mushiness imo until the end.

This book reminded me of how I felt once Rhys and Feyre finally got together and became a boring couple in book three. Syns badassness at some point went from something I could stan to something I just found cringeworthy. The levels she has been elevated to in order to retain a Celaena like status is just ridiculous. The girl Power scene with her and the other girls literally made me die of embarrassment, but hey, somewhere, someone is sitting in bed with their husband, patting themselves on the back for ~badass female characters!!!11~

Badass female characters are more badass when they don’t claim to be so almost every other line, with awful dialogue. I honestly think that Hutchins is deluded by her love for Ryder and Syn- which, sadly, comes at the expense of good prose, world building and a status worthy of the first four books.

I also hate amnesia plot lines, and really didn’t appreciate this factoring into it. It felt odd to have this literally in the middle of a war, and it was fairly obvious that this was a poor way of accounting for a progression in Syn’s development into the goddess of all goddesses. Not to mention all of that other shit with Ryders character, that I don’t even want to got into.

Finally, I strongly disagree with the decision to make her kids grow up to adult size in such a short time span, and then immediately finish this book with the start of Kahleena’s. I feel like they were robbed of their childhoods with their parents. It didn’t feel like a real happily ever after that we deserved after sticking with this series (and the million other side stories). They barely even had any scenes together, instead we got (surprise surprise!)... more sex scenes. Just great.

This series should have ended in the last book. It has evolved so much, but not in a way that I really enjoyed. A lot of the female friendships in this felt forced (aside from her and darynda as there was an actual precedent for that).

I still stand by Lucian’s series being one of Amelia’s better ones, and - as she seems to be less invested in that storyline - I’m hoping she ends it soon before I get sick of it (or she ruins it)

Definitely disappointed in how this series has concluded, and though I obviously will read whatever she puts out, as I’m trash for some of her content, I do think Hutchins needs to evaluate quality > quantity, and stop rushing out so many books/novellas that quite frankly, were never needed.

What is this cheap, poorly written wannabe A Court of Mist and Fury?
This is just insulting to ACOMAF.

I can handle the poor writing when the story and plot is somewhat decent like in the first 3 books, But what the hell happened?

This is just an introduction to even more books... but I’m done.

I don't want to be harsh, I loved the first 3 or 4 books of this series. I really did. No lie. This author was one of my favorite writers, but I am really pissed. The story seemed so good in the beginning in books 1-3. It seems that along the way, the plot got lost and I had a hard time understanding what is the whole point of this series. First Synthia starts out as a witch/enforcer, then turned into a blood fae princess, then turned into the Queen of the Horde, then turned into the Goddess of the Land, then turned into the High Goddess of Faery. Its too much! What was the whole point of this 7 book series? I am so confused. The series is called "The Fae Chronicles" so why is there Gods and Goddesses and Angels popping out of nowhere in this whole series? There comes a point when you add too much drama and too much elements into a book that causes you to get lost and confused. If the author had kept it with fairies and the book was more concise and focused, I would have loved it more and given it a much higher rating.

Also, the love between Ryder and Synthia was so cute and adorable in the first few books in the series, but then it quickly turned into nauseating and annoying. They keep professing their love for each other every chance they get. I feel like I'm reading the same thing over and over again. I get it, you both love each other! Move on with the plot! And the whole amnesia bit with Synthia losing her memory at the end of book 6 and then recovering them in book 7 just to learn that none of it really did happen was so extra. So unnecessary. Also, the Synthia that I loved in books 1-3 would not be so quick to forgive Ryder for leaving her in the Seelie prison for 20 years?! Like WTF? She didn't feel like a strong character in books 6-7 for me.

Not to mention, the ending was unsatisfactory. I've waited so many years and read 7 books in this series just so that the final book ends in a cliffhanger? How is that fair? Ryder and Synthia could have just had their separate ending and Kahleena could have had her own series. It was so upsetting and I felt so angry when I read that ending. I waited 7 books just so the finale ends in a cliffhanger?! Seriously? Wow.

This series had soooo much potential and I loved the world the author created but somewhere along the way, the plot got lost and Ryder&Synthia stopped being cute and started getting annoying to me. I don't know if it is because the book got stretched too much or way too many unnecessary dramas happened or characters were added to it, but it started to lose its appeal to me.

If you love this author's books then keep reading. I'm sure Kahleena's story will come out soon. This is just how I felt about books 6-7 and the whole series, to be honest.

Holy freaking heck!!!
What happens when Gods/Goddess’s are spurned by love? And are selfish, idealistic, pompous butt holes?
An epic story of betrayal, loss, love and sacrifice that’s what.. and so Crowning Destiny delivers
Can Faery be saved? Can a goddess be convinced to take back her memories? Can the Horde King triumph over the evil befalling his land? Find out in this long awaited finale of the Fae Chronicles but be warned... this is no run of the mill fairy tale, this one wets your panties, upends your emotions and leaves you wanting so much more

Worth every moment of torture, tears and laughter. Thank you Amelia Hutchins for creating a stunningly surreal adventure and for letting us enjoy the ride ❤️
even though, that ending? Woman you are killing me over here!!!

Wow.

It's been one neck of a journey, following Syn and Ryder through their story and my heart is overflowing with their ending. As usual Amelia kept us on our toes and took us on a wild ride and into war.

Amelia did exactly what she said, she broke us apart in Embracing Destiny and put us back together in Crowning Destiny. Everything she did, she did he is and I adore her style all the more for the rollercoaster she took us on emotion wise.

I can't wait to jump back into Faery with the characters she's created, whilst Syn and Ryder have had their journey concluded, really it's just the beginning of Faery and all that is yet to come.

I have been a fan since Amelia first came out and have loved all her books. I was excited and sad for this to be the last book, I will say I was disappointed with the first few chapters as it felt to me like it was repeating a lot of words over and over again but once I got past this area WOW the book took me for an amazing ride so sad to see syn and Ryder story end here it’s been an amazing ride from the much talented Amelia hutchins

Such a disappointment.

Series started out well with strong characters but went downhill in the last few books. Like seriously what the hell happened.

I liked Ryder when the series started. Sure he was a controlling prick but I also got that he was the head and was managing many pieces and was playing the long game. The fate of a world rested on him so it kind of made sense. Up until triple's birth and even their wedding made sense. But then you go back and assassinate his character - so he has been lying the whole time never trusting Syn with his plans. (then what the hell is the point of their relationship?) He tries to change her personality, forces her into it and causes a bigger catastrophe and is never punished for it. He gets a free pass what the hell? That's pretty much applauding abusive and manipulative behavior.

And then Synthia. She started out as a strong character then lost all the purpose. She easily forgives her conniving husband. She says he needs to earn her trust back but does he? Not that I could think of. She is suffering due to a trauma and all that she is worried about was cheating on her husband. Like what's wrong with you? That is plain out victim blaming. And after all that trauma the whole episode is swept under the rug as an illusion. Then what was the point of it?

The mail leads character arcs have gone down the drain. The antagonists both Dhanu and Bile have no purpose. Some of the longer exiting supporting characters like Adam, Adrian or even the demon have no development in their story arcs at all. Overall it has been a real disappointment. For a series that started out well it ended pretty badly.

I can't anymore. This book, part two was only slightly more palatable than part one. These two parts were awful. I have found I really enjoy the beginning books in all of her different series but wind up with a game of thrones level let down as they near the end. Sensational content for shock value alone with no real purpose. The beautiful characters, world, and plots she weaves to begin with just sizzle out in the end. The giant epic final battles are like a blink and you missed it cut to commercial. Every book is just another way to start companion series that you have to also read in order to have major plot points to continue with the main story. I adored the new realms book but I'm just not willing to go down The KMM rabbit hole again she seems to be following. To those who enjoyed it I'm happy for you but I just don't see it.

Fairy lives on

I never wanted to see Sylvia and Rider's story end. But does anything truly end. I'm sure we will hear of them again it just won't revolve around them anymore.

There are still characters I want to hear more from. The children, Adam, Ristan, Erie, and others.

Can't wait to see what is next.

🎉I MADE IT 🎉to the end of this 16-book journey.

You can’t fight destiny or taunt it. You can try to escape it, or seduce it, but it will unravel you eventually. It won’t let you go until you finally decide to embrace it, and then it will crown you, and you’ll know true happiness.

Crowning Destiny is the second part of the Fae Chronicles series Finale… sort of… Embracing Destiny had a lot of filler, but also packed in some major revelations in the last half. Here’s a quick recap….

Sex- secrets- arguing - babies- fake cheating- the Fae Chronicles version of The Red Wedding (minus the wedding) …. Syn OBSESSED that her kickass husband couldn’t protect himself. Ryder OBSESSED that Syn needed to shut off her humanity (tell me you didn’t keep picturing Vampire Diaries) to be badass. Syn sneaking Ryder a spiked Danu-juice drink to make him a God. A multi-chapter sexathon where Ryder dropped some facts including… he’s been a God for 600+ years, the Horde can lie, he let himself get kidnapped, and that Bilé is the Tree of Life and reason Faery is dying. He left her in a prison pit. Syn emerged 3 days later (20 in pit yrs) and went all Lena from Becoming His Monster crazy. Lucian got her soul back and it ended with her thinking she was 17. So…it a nutshell, we left off practically where we started with Syn thinking she’s a witch that hates the Fae.

I have A LOT of notes to organize so I want to make this part quick. This followed the same outline as the last book. The first ½ was filler with 25% of amnesia Syn and almost the next 25% is spent focusing on a problem that disappears because it never happened… much like Ryder’s fake cheating. The rest was a hodgepodge of sex, because I said so plot twists/facts, talking about sex, with about 25% regarding the actual end of the war… we’ve been working towards for 16 books.
My biggest grumps were the tone and the pacing. I was really looking forward to closure, so I was bummed that so little page time went towards the resolution.

I also found the tone lighter, cheesier/sillier than I had expected. This was the epic conclusion, and everyone was having sex or waltzing around with no sense of urgency joking with sexual innuendos.

Something crashed again the tower… Syn smirks at Ryder
They have possible enemy soldiers approaching…. They’re joking about chaining each other to the bed.
They’re being attacked by mages… They’re joking about ass play.
They’re riding to their last stand… They’re talking about shooting watermelon seeds into her vagina. Wooing and getting molested by plants.

Bottom Line- The two finals had so much filler, yet they left numerous loose ends. We’ve been working towards this war for a LONG time, and it takes 70% until anything war related happens and almost 80% to get to the actual battle. Then we’re rushed through all the answers’ part so we can set up the next book… that's already talking about the next war. 😩 I’m so bummed because after investing all these hours I felt like more effort was placed into making more books then actually putting this series to its long overdue rest. I don’t think I’ve ever read a series finale that ends in a cliffy before. Looks like Kahleena is up next.

MAJOR SPOILERS Jac’s Notes from C.D.-
Random things that confuse or distress me- and won’t fit in the notes

🤯 Ch. 13 Syn states while discussing the “hidden-secret” realm (another world Ryder created) that Ristan doesn’t know about, (and Ryder seems pissed that she brought this up) but it’s been brought up before…because it confused me… and Asrian knew about it in his book and I think they talked about it in Sinjinn’s book.
🤯 God stuff is blowing my mind… Syn just called herself the Goddess of the People and Ryder the God of the Land. Danu called Syn the Goddess of the Land way back in S.D. (when she was reborn a goddess and Danu was still alive/goddess of the Fae), but she’s been the Goddess of the Fae for books. Ryder called himself the God of Fairy in Em. D.
🤯 Is there a God hierarchy? Like is there one way to kill them all, or do they each require different things? Ryder said she almost killed Bilé and ended the war by ripping his heart out, (when she emerged from the pit- Ryder stopped her before she yanked it out cuz she was simultaneously trying to have sex), but she ripped her own heart out and didn’t die. Later while gripping Ryder’s heart, he said she couldn’t kill him. He also said in Em.D. that he learned (by listening to the witches) how to kill a god… like there’s a special way to kill a God. But also in Em. D…. he told her that had she accepted her power (stopped holding onto her humanity) she could’ve been more powerful and killed him/ Bilé before he murdered Dristan and company.
🤯 Why are they going to sleep if gods aren’t supposed to sleep? In Em. D. it was a deal that she needed to sleep, now she’s ascended and still is going to sleep.
🤯 When did Zahruk go to the Court of Nightmares to get hexed? What’s going on with Sinjinn having blood oath to marry one? It’s not even brought up.
🤯 How does making a mass of people come in their pants equate to claiming the unofficial High King and Queen roles??
🤯 When they say stuff like Eliran and Dristan will be reborn. Do they mean like babies or like how Syn and Lena were reborn as adults?
🤯 Why did Thanatos say in Em.D. that there were pieces of Syn everywhere in the pit when he went to retrieve her soul if it was an illusion and Malachi never physically hurt her?
🤯 ”You made me think you needed to be fed with sex”…” What man wouldn’t want a pretty girl feeding him?” Nice save. This sort of works, but there were numerous instances in the first several books where he had to be fed. And there was the cloning 3-some, new ability scene. (??)
🤯 I thought there was a time difference when jumping back and forth from Faery to the human world. Wasn’t Syn gone for weeks when she spent all day with Alden? (Em.D.) She takes the women and children, talks to Alden, Adrian & Erie and comes back without losing time.
🤯 I’m so confused about Malachi being Oberon the first King of Faery. I thought he was always in the pit? If he had lived a normal life at some point, why didn’t he know what feelings felt like?
🤯 Cailean the blood fae protector of Syn & triplets died. ( Em. D.) She sent his soul away. He’s back alive and now an Elite guard and Ryder’s bro. And maybe an ambassador since Lachlan can take that role over. (at the end) I can’t recall discussing this role.
🤯 Syn says the stag is a demi-god when Ryder said it was the god Cernunnos last book.
🤯 How did we switch gears so fast to Danu being evil? Syn just sprouted out this whole scenario out of the blue. She was a total bitch in Ristan’s book, but Syn just did a 180. If giving Ryder Danu’s essence was supposed to turn him in a god, why would giving Kahleena her essence turn her into Danu? Ryder didn’t turn into her. And how would Bilé get his essence into one of the boys? Who would have killed the one not picked?
🤯 Did Bilé or Destiny leave the vial for Ryder? They both claimed they did. Destiny said she left it for him because Syn would need a reason to want her destiny, but how would him being a god rather than the powerful Horde King make a difference? He’s 1000 years old so I’m assuming he’s immortal either way.
🤯If Bilé is the bio dad for all Alazander’s kids, how does that work? Does he someone shoot his seed while possessing Alaz’s body? Are all the brothers demi-gods?
🤯How did Destiny send Syn to Malachi? Did she spell Ryder to chase then leave her in the pit? She said so he could make her strong enough to battle, but it wouldn’t have mattered if Malachi didn’t step up to be the tree.
🤯 So confused about the Bilé tree part. He’s a God, clearly a very strong one since they needed Syn to “ascend” to become powerful enough to kill him. I’m assuming this has to do with their new Wonder Twin power meld thing that just appeared. (but Ryder also implied he had little power left at the end) He made the world with Danu and agreed to fetch and deliver souls via the tree… then volunteered to be the tree too? Somehow, he separated from it because he was married, and wore an Alazander skin suit for thousands of years… was this why the tree was dying? How would forcing him back in keep him there? Couldn’t he just come back out again?
🤯 Why was Syn fighting hand to hand combat if she can neutralize people with snapping her fingers? Spyder heals her, could a poisoned stab wound kill her? She ripped her heart out the last book. (back to the Gods being killed) The final battle felt off, they are fighting hand to hand… when they can kick ass, but wait until a bunch of people to die until they make their move. Why? They had to have a plan to handle Bilé, it started early, but they still knew what needed to be done. Why not just go for him at the start?

Random thoughts/predictions… Kahleena and Destiny dropped several hints mid-book.

💠Kahleena’s future mate- We know he kidnapped her. Her parents won’t approve. He’s a little broken. He’s going to do some very bad things to get her. He will be her beast. She hints that she won’t be in Faery. He has silver wings and eyes. I have 2 guesses… At first, I was thinking that he might be one of those first race beings that Zeus mentioned in U.D. Then I peeked at the last Monster book and Lucian mentioned that he thinks she’s in Hell. Could it be Lucifer? Either works because Zeus said they were bound to no world. (I’m picking up Dragon King vibes)
💠Dristan will be reborn soon. Could he be reborn as the babe Syn is preggers with?
💠Ristan’s real destiny has yet to begin. He has a mate coming. No guesses.
💠 Spyder has a mate coming. Could it be Eris, who is now mortal?
💠Zahruk has a mate coming. I have 2 guesses for this one too. Frya (Blane’s dragon weapons master) they both are into weapons and Z can shift into any shape so he could turn into a dragon with her. My second guess was Ayla from the Nightmare Court. She hexed him and he seems to hate her which would make an enemies to lovers setup. BUT, I could also see her hooking up with Asher since Cillian seems to think they should’ve been named the Heir since Arianna was their mother.

Final thoughts and Loose Ends

I liked the series quite a lot in the beginning, but then it got overwhelming. My guess is there wasn’t a plan to make this “universe” overarching from the beginning or how they were all supposed to interconnect and play out. It feels like rather than the storyline as a whole generating/rolling over into more books, they were written backward with the books needing to be filled. This resulted in an abundance of characters, subplots, details, and world-facts needed to fill pages, but when combined weren’t always consistent and often conflicted with information we were previously given… Add in that it was all built upon of foundation with little worldbuilding and rules/standards and it was a bit all over the place.

In a nutshell, we started with fae, demons, witches and vampires, and ended up in a “universe” with unseelie, seelie, demi-gods, gods, goddesses, shifters, dragons, lesser fae, Greek gods, Irish gods, furies, Heaven, Hell, angels, Lucifer, etc. … several kingdoms and courts. There was a lot going on, but if you look closely very few of those (concepts/characters) went beyond scratching the surface. So, I was left with a lot of concepts, but few connections. I’m nervous about the new stuff because it looks like the kids will now be intertwined with the O.G.’s and I’m already overloaded. The author has a great imagination and can write. It just feels like the “universe” has gotten too big and she’s been rushed. I’m just going to pretend I didn’t read that last chapter and they’ll all have HEA’s in my head. 😊

⚫ Adam still has Kendra’s body shell somewhere. I’m over Adam’s story. I like the dude, but this whole resurrecting Larissa thing has been teased for so long (16 books) that I don’t even care about her anymore… like at all. We barely met her and she died a long time ago. He’s had that empty body for books. I thought we were getting somewhere in U.D. when Hannah said Larissa was from their line and that they needed those witches to get her from the void, but nothing ever happened. I wish he would have quietly met someone in the background and we could have put his story to rest. Like that chick that stepped up, Princess Shea… and why were on that…

⚫ What happened to the Light Kingdom? Dresden and Tatiana were exiled then Syn said they would die. (Seducing D.) Then, they disappeared never to be heard of again. Were they captured and executed behind the scenes? Next, Princess Shea stepped in and we ended S.D. with her and Adam having a possible thing. The next time we hear of her she’s left her stewardship (in U.D) and Adam has taken over for her. The next time we hear of the Light Kingdom Abiageal (the daughter of the Horde nobleman that was betrothed to Ryder in Escaping Destiny) is ruling it. How did this happen?

UGH! I am so sad this is over! I mean, I understand we'll get more books in this universe. So we'll see Syn and Ryder again. But UGH! I never want to let go of my little cinnamon rolls!

I am perfectly content with how this series ended. And the fact that you are pulled into the set up for the next books in this universe is just the icing on top. However, it was kind of annoying that you got a freaking cliffhanger at the end of the final book of a series. Just because the author was setting up for more books in this universe. But whatevs.

Syn and Ryder will forever hold a piece of my heart! But I'm excited to get more books with all the side characters you meet in this series! :)

Wow... Amelia never fails me when it comes to her writing.
This finale was simply.. outstanding.
So many things revieled and came to light.
My jaw was barely off the floor whilst reading it!
A fitting end of Syn and Ryder’s story.. although there is things afoot 😏
7 years to complete this series and 7 books and its done!
Syn and Ryder’s story has been on such a ride tou didn't know what was up and what was down, but they landed on their feet in the end and it was EPIC

Note: This is the seventh book in the Fae Chronicles series and 16th overall book within the Fae Chronicles universe. This book concludes Synthia and Ryder’s story.

War came and caught them off guard despite all the planning. Now the Horde is left with gaping holes of heartache when their beloveds were slaughtered: Eliren, Dristan, Olivia, Darynda, and all of the High Fae courts, to include the Courts of Darkness, Light and Blood.

After Ryder attempted to force Synthia to let go of her last shred of humanity in order to take her full goddess power and save them all, Synthia changed. She has spent three days Faery time but 20 years her time locked in the Seelie prison being raped and destroyed daily by unthinkable monsters. She’s not who she was going in. She has the powers, but no memory of anyone other than Adam, her lifelong friend from her Guild days. In fact, she believes she is 17 and still engaged to Adrian.

What an ending to this tale! The book ends, and yet the story doesn’t. Synthia and Ryder’s story is finished, but there are so many more stories yet to come. We will eventually find out the destinies of their triplets, as well as what is in store for Ristan and Zahruk. And don’t forget Lena and Lucian; and Callaghan and Erie!

This was a tear jerker, but also really funny, especially during the time Synthia lost her memories. She came back as a 17 year old Enforcer still believing she was engaged to Adrian, and let me tell you, Adrian played that up!

Brava, Ms. Hutchins! This entire series was brilliant.
