The first chapter of this volume follows directly from the previous one's dramatic ending--as one would expect!--and is quite intense. After that, gifts are exchanged between the two, and later Yashiro warns Ren about the stalker-like perceptions of Ren's fan clubs, who will notice in an instant any change in his behavior or accessories.

Then we're back to Kyoko's acrobatic training and costuming for her role as Momiji. Hooray! As much as I enjoyed the beginning of her and Ren's formal romance, I've been missing the parts of the story where she learns more about being an actress.

This volume had less than 150 pages of story in it, which was kind of disappointing, especially since the gaps between volumes have become so long. (Vol. 47 doesn't even have an English-language publishing date as of my writing this review.) No matter, I've been reading this for over fifteen years, and I'm not stopping just because it isn't on a regular schedule anymore.

Okay so while I loved the last volume, it was the ending that gave it such a high standing, I wanted SO MUCH from this volume. While I enjoyed it, I wanted more. Kyoko really doesn't get to say much about how she feels towards Ren in all the chaos of Ren's revelation. And his jealousy is getting worse. His emotions were all over the place! I expected a more over-the-top reaction from from their manager. Like, "FINALLY!" Lots more dialogue but not much really happens in this one. Like a sort-of declaration is made but is was a bit odd. Cute cute moments but the hype of the last one and the fact that it took SO MANY volumes to get to this point and THIS is all I get?! *SIGH*

2024-So much of this story is told through the images. Not that there isn't it's fair share of reading but the character expressions and reactions honestly say so much more in this one. This volume is a large step forward. Yet it is also a bit confusing and undefined while they both want to circle each other but focus on their careers. A bit maddening really. Loved the exchange of gifts but still seeing Kyoko's gift to him reminded me that eventually the truth must come out and it wont be pretty...

It's so nice to have Ren and Kyoko's relationship start to finally come together. And now they're even exchanging tokens of affection ;u; <33

...of course because Ren is who he is, it appears that they've decided to keep their relationship on the "down-low" for now, but I do wonder if it will stay that way for long...

Chapter notes below for personal reference: (potentially spoiler heavy)

I used to really enjoy this series but now it feels like it just keeps dragging on with lots of filler and not much action. The main leads have liked each other for so long but now even after finally confessing they're still not together! It's really disappointing. I really just want to see the main leads who I've followed and cared about for a long time have a happy ending. It's overdue!

Reread July 4th, 2025

Considering how long it took, I'm content. It's hard to believe anything worthy will happen any time soon (between them, I mean, not storywise).

•The screen doesn't do the cover of this volume justice! Ren looks at Kyoko so tenderly and it's beautiful to look at in person 😭

•Kyoko and Ren still have a ways to go before they become a couple

•My favorite part in this volume is when Ren learns that fangirls are scary and Yashiro continues to be awesome

Mi sento appagato, soprattutto ora che so cosa provi per me.

This volume was a long time coming (was it already a year ago that the last volume came out?) and arriving on the heels of such a cliffhanger in the last volume, I was excited. But once again, Nakamura has escalated the relationship and then just as quickly de-escalated it and I admit that for once I am wanting more.

Story: Ren and Kyoko are trapped in the elevator and confessions finally come out. But neither are ready to move forward in a relationship. Worse, Ren's manager warns that once the Ren fansites begin to sleuth together that Ren has found a secret girl, that person who going to get a lot of hate. Are either ready for that situation?

This volume closes the elevator scene and then pretty much goes back to business as usual as Kyoko prepares for her ninja girl role. The world still believes Ren is already dating the perfect girl in Kana and Kyoko comes away oddly happy despite the situation ending as it did.

In all, there are some beautiful scenes in there of Ren giving meaningful glances and Kyoko humorously freaking out. But admittedly, it was a strange backstep from such a momentous reveal. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

description

Kind of difficult to remember what’s going on after so long - who’s Cedric? This series could use some character bios at the start of each book, after 46 volumes. (Is Skip Beat one of the longest running current shojo series, or what? Not that I’m complaining!) It’s great to see Kyoko and Ren’s relationship inch towards changing. In any other series, 47 volumes to get to this point might be tedious, but I enjoy all the arcs about acting - and hope we get to see them in more detail! - so I’m along for the ride. Ellipses and all.

Wow, it's only taken FORTY SIX VOLUMES for them to finally admit to each other that they have feelings for one another. But don't think that this is over by any means - OH NO. Now they have to keep things a secret until Ren achieves his goal. So clearly I am stuck reading this for another 40-something volumes at least.

I was partially dreading reading this volume because I didn't know how it could stand up to the other 45 VOLUMES of this series, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the story developed in a really realistic and believable and mature way. Even though things are obviously nowhere close to being resolved, lol, the characters were so THOROUGHLY fleshed out and the foreshadowing was so carefully sprinkled in over the last few volumes that I can't wait to see the next big development that's just peeking over on the horizon.

Page! Nine! hothothothot!!!!!! Page! 40!!! Streaming!!!! Kyoko is so overstimulated, please have mercy. But what the hell was that "just kidding" to practically an emotional reversal. Whut the heeeeeeellllllll?!?!?! Honorable mention to silly Ren once he feels comfortable and more vulnerable. But again ... thats how my ship sails? Slow burn to have her cower on the floor of the elevator?

Yay! They finally confessed their feelings! But now i’m curious about what his necklace actually says and who was that man with Tina? Wonder what she’s been doing all these years after Ricks’s death. Was kinda surprised to find out his name is Eric and goes by Rick.

Finally

They have finally done it and confessed, but even that and the after conversation doesn't happen like normal people. They are definitely made for each other. Now new conflict enters and new characters. Can't wait to see what happens next.

I’m both happy and sad that Ren and Kyoko aren’t dating but at least they admitted their feelings to each other! I wonder what Moko is going to say to Ren. I hope eventually Ren and Kyoko can start dating and everyone will leave them alone.
