Such a pretty cover for such a mediocre book. I really wanted to like this ughh. The main couple just didn't have enough chemistry for me, and for some reason the entire book and its dialogue felt extremely formal? This wasn't a terrible book/story by any means, but just kind of overall disappointing. I liked the mystery aspect a lot, and loved Rae's friend group, but I probably won't ever reach for this book again.

I have to admit this book I had been in two minds about as I did leave it till the last minute to read but the politics angle and the word "conspiracy" is what grabbed me. Unfortunately for me, this wasn't a favorite read and I struggled to finish as it was quite a slow burn and lots of back and forth from the main characters. I liked the idea of a second chance romance which this had but seriously, I know you were burned but why not just jump back in when there are feelings and then you can go from there. I did enjoy the various group texts and then the mysterious messages as I love seeing modern uses of technology e.g texting, emails, etc in novels. I did like Flint as a male lead but have to admit Rae frustrated me and I felt I couldn't fully connect with her, but at the same time I loved how she had a group of tight-knit girlfriends - that was awesome and that we got to see their names, etc quite a bit throughout the novel. Of course like most romances, we have our sad moment as just when things start to look up for the couple and we are like YAY - a second chance , the mystery aspect happens and their past comes back to haunt them. Who doesn't want this beautiful couple together ? Will Rae's heart be able to handle another lost round with Flint ?
I would classify Conspiracy in the Capitol as a cozy mystery with second chance slow-burn romance. If you love your romance with a sprinkle of suspense then check out B. Ivy Woods - Conspiracy in the Capitol - a diversity BWWM read.

Conspiracy In The Capitol (In The Capitol #1) by B. Ivy Woods

Conspiracy In The Capitol by B. Ivy WoodsMy rating: 4 of 5 starsAngstful, emotional, unforgettable. Woods writes romance with edge. Conspiracy in the Capitol is at it's best when it shows you it's worst. Romance may be on the horizon, but danger haunts the shadows. From love lost to second chance found. Can Rae and Flint survive the aftermath of giving themselves over to love?

Rae got her heart broken by a man who she thought she would spend her life with, and since that moment in time, she's not been lucky in love whatsoever. Of course, it could be she never got the closure she needed to move on, and/or she's never gotten over him. Anyway, these days she's got a great job, and a great group of friends (who are HILARIOUS) to make her life happy, until the day that man came back into her life. Flint ghosted her years ago, and Rae isn't sure that she wants to ever talk to him, yet, he's determined to win her back which puts her life right back in danger. Flint knows that he let the one slip away, and he's never gotten over her, so when he moves to her neck of the woods, he's determined to at least talk to her. They still have their chemistry, and even feelings left, so they reconnect. However, those messages that stopped years ago, seemed to find her again right after Flint & she started talking. Will they be able to have that second chance at happily ever after?! Or will this danger stalking her impose their will on them again?! You'll have to hit those one click buttons to find out! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I found myself quickly swept up in and emotionally invested in this book. This second chance romance is well paired with keep you guessing suspense. Rae and Flint were amazing characters that stole my heart and had my fingers crossed that this time they'd get their much deserved HEA. A well crafted combination of emotion, drama, mystery and stunning twists that flows across every page will have you desperately needing to read just one more chapter. An excellent book that left me eager for book two! This is my volitional, candid review.

After reading Love in the Capital, I was on the edge of my seat waiting for Conspiracy in the Capital-and it definitely lived up to my expectations. I just had to know, who is behind these mysterious text, and why?! This book is full of twist and turns, ones I certainly didn’t see coming and of course will Rae and Flint take a second chance at their love?! So good! I love B Ivy Woods’ attention to detail. I’ve only been to the DC area once, but the way she uses descriptive details makes me feel like I’m right there watching all this play out.

Thanks B Ivy Woods for allowing me to read this early and leave an honest review.

Dnf.

"He was wearing a black suit that fit him like a glove, a white button down shirt, and a blue tie. Rae could see hints of the man she knew when they dated several years ago, but the differences surprised her. Gone were the Air Force uniform and in its place was a beautifully tailored suit that fit him like a glove."

Am I missing something or did the suit fit him like a glove ?

Poor editing.

Conspiracy In The Capital (In The Capital Book One) is a second chance romance with a spool of mystery sprinkled throughout. I found the beginning engaging as it began similar to the prequel, however years later. I felt the title fit the narrative well. Solving the mystery behind the text messages kept me puzzled till near the end. I couldn't put it down till I solved the conspiracy. I appreciated the authors attention to descriptive details. The suspense and unexpected twists was my favourite part. I liked the close knit friendships of the girls. For me personally I didn't feel the chemistry between Rae and Flint. Their actions didn't reflect their magnetism. The other thing that I didn't sit well with me was the time between the break up and the meeting up again was several years later and the timing of the text's returning. The texts stop and return suddenly. Why so many years? And the reasoning behind the texts returning. I was happy to get a epilogue.

I was asked to read this and I was not sure what to expect as this is the first book I've read by this author. I can say that I was not disappointed. This is a second chance romance with a great combination of drama, heartache, mystery, suspense, and heart. I couldn't put it down.

Good book! Great characters!

First book for my by this author.

I thought the book was very well done. It was romantic suspense and it kept me guessing.

Rae and Flint were so in love and things happened that prevented them from continuing together.

Fate intervened and they were given a second chance.

I won’t say more as that could ruin the book.

I would read more in this series.

The writing was too dry because every mundane action was explained. And the heroine had no personality at all.

Continuing on from the novella, we're now several years down the line and Rae and Flint have reconnected, finding their relationship just as steamy as it was before, however, the texts keep coming, warning Rae off Flint. With his political aspirations factored in, can their relationship withstand the potential sabotage at play?

I truly enjoyed the first book in the In the Capitol series. Rae's misgivings about Flint were believable and her relationships with her friends were just as humorous as the first time around. If I would change one thing, I think it would be to have more suspense surrounding the texts Rae keeps getting, and perhaps more of a build-up to the ending and revelations. However, I will continue on reading the series and look forward to the next book :-)

I was really excited to read this series filled with romance and mystery. The novella prequel, Love in the Capital, was good and left me wanting more. However, I couldn’t get in to this book and didn’t think there was much romance or suspense in it. I didn’t get any sense of chemistry between the two characters, even though they had an apparent hot and heavy past. For the first half of the book, Rae is unsure about getting back with her ex, Flint, but then all of the sudden she tells him she’ll get back together with him. It didn’t feel real.

For me, I wasn’t invested in either of the characters, their relationship or the apparent conspiracy and I don’t think I’ll be continuing in with the series.

I loved Rae and Flint's characters from the beginning of the first book. I was really invested to see how their relationship would develop in this second book. I was not disappointed!! I really do love how the author weaves in suspense within a romantic book. I normally go to smut and trash - but this book really had me biting my nails and turning more pages until I found out what happened! I love the way she paints Rae's entire character - with her relationship AND with her friendships. B. Ivy Woods is truly a fresh talent and I'm invigorated by the books she has been releasing! Can't wait for the release of the third!!!

This is a lovely second chance romance. Rae and Flint’s previous relationship came to an abrupt halt and Rae has never gotten over it. Unexpectedly Flint is back in town and the two start running into each other. After many conversations Flint confessed to why he left their relationship so abruptly. Trust is a major issue Ali f with meddling parents and friends. There is a bit of suspense to the story and the outcome will surprise you a bit. Looking forward to additional books in this series.

This seems to be the first book from the author and I’d say she’s off to a good start. Don’t let the political aspect scare you away. It takes a backseat to the relationship between Flint and Rae. In short, two exes find themselves back in each other’s lives several years after a bad breakup. Now each is flourishing in their careers. The book follows them as they attempt to get back together while trying to figure out who’s taken an extreme interest in keeping them apart.

Romance with a side of suspense

Aww! Second chance romance. Ope! Suspense!

From page one to the last, Woods had me hooked. Past lovers navigating a rekindling of their relationship, a quirky circle of amazing friends that I legit want to hang out with, conspiracy, and anonymous texts - it had it all. I had a hard time putting it down.

Will definitely be reading more by Woods!

Ohh The Lies!

This book has more reveling of lies and treachery, then a TV whodonit show.
I am definitely looking forward to seeing Revenge: Book 3 in this series.

Oh the lies we tell not just to others, but to ourselves.

Conspiracy in the Capitol was my first read from author B. Ivey Woods. I really enjoyed the storyline for this book. I never predicted the “conspiracy” as it was coming. I just found this book a little difficult to read, while I liked the plot, the characters and the story progression fell s little flat for me.

A mix of suspense and rekindled romance. The events in this book occurs after Love in the Capitol. Rae and Flint haven't been together in a while but he wants back in her life. She's understandably hesitant, especially since the mysterious messages have returned. It's a good read for romantic suspense lovers like me.
