How this book changed my daily live (Takeaways) 1. Humans think in simple stories build with images and emotions. A simple story has a start - middle - end. 2. We rather win then to be correct. 3. Blow up assumptions with AND thinking not OR ○ Judga questions - Knowledge - Answers - Exploitation ○ Learning questions - Ignorrance - Questions - Exploration 4. Purpose replaces vision and mission
Spoiler Alerts (Highlights) 1. Our brain is a prediction-making machine, unremittingly making a series of ‘top-down’ guesses, based on past experience, which are met with ‘bottom-up’ sensory information that either confirms or counters those predictions. 2. Many of today's corporations were built on the belief that one idea could be perfected, scaled, and extended over the course of many decades, and consequently provide a predictable career for its leaders. Growth came from incremental improvements to that idea, the refinement of the underpinning business model, and finding new adjacent market opportunities. The command and control, machine-like hierarchy matched the needs of that assumption. 3. Few organisations retain the founding entrepreneurs and culture of their start-up phase. They are replaced with system builders and process managers, and the organisation progressively becomes more introverted and less sensitive to its environment, becoming engrossed in efficiency and financialisation. It then relies increasingly upon proxies for what's happening in its market rather than through direct experience with customers, new entrants, and even employees.
Very inspiring book, simply written and very effective… I’ve had the pleasure to work with Jean Gomes in my Company and I can witness that the concepts he teaches do work and will help you unleashing your hidden potential. Stefano M.
A lot of interesting thoughts packed into a relatively short read makes this fascinating at times, but rather dense, at turns. I found the first half — which addresses individual mindset and self awareness — more interesting than the back half, which applies this more broadly to business and business culture. I wish there was a little more anecdote to make this stickier and more practical.
I loved this book. Gomes included so much food for thought on strengthening and building mindsets within your professional career, but also how the applicability of mindset building is so impactful in all facets of your life. A must-read for anyone!
