Despite unimaginable odds, Marine Lieutenant Gant Maker has once again done the impossible, defeating the alien Vacra’s invasion force and nullifying their unstoppable doomsday device.
With their armada destroyed and their fleet crippled, the Vacra resort to the inconceivable: they sue for peace via an unexpected envoy. Fresh off his highly improbable victory, Maker now finds himself faced with the unenviable and undesirable task of escorting the Vacra representative home.
On a voyage fraught with peril, Maker and his contingent of misfit Marines must travel far beyond the bounds of known space, to a region where human beings are at best an unknown lifeform (and at worst, viewed as less than animals). Contending with alien slavers, space pirates, and warships, Maker is determined to accomplish his assigned task. However, he soon learns that the stakes are far higher than he ever imagined, as his mission exposes him to a new danger – a menace that threatens to destroy the entire human race if Maker can’t find a way to stop it.
Once again Maker and his team face an almost impossible task. Faced with escorting his arch-enemy home, he must try to put aside his own feelings while still keeping himself and his team safe. On the journey, he discovers that even the Vacra might be more than they seem. The book dives straight into a discussion including all the characters which helped remind me of the previous books. I enjoyed reading more about Maker and the other characters. I felt some of it was a bit implausible, why would no one ever listen to Maker's warnings! Lots of interesting new worlds and strange alien characters.
Just loved this book. I always look forward to a new book by this author and I wasn't disappointed by this instalment. You can alway guarantee that it is going to be full of adventure, fights and twists, as well as great characters. Just when you think you know what is going to happen there is a twist and the adventure goes off in a different direction. This is book three in the series and although it isn't necessary to have listened to the previous books it does continue from where book two left off, I highly recommend that you start with book one and work your way through. The hours spent in space (or should I say listening to this book) just flew by......which is good because it means you are enjoying it but bad because you have to wait for the next book. With the destruction of the Vacra space ship, Lt Maker and his team are enjoying some down time. That is until he gets summoned to a meeting. Skull cap, Makers deadliest foe, is the only Vacra left a live and as a diplomat he his demanding that Maker and his misfit of soldiers escort him to his home planet, in exchange for the classified technology they stole from them. Maker wants to kill him on sight and now he has to deny his instincts and do the unthinkable. Can the Vacra be trusted to keep up there end of the bargain? Maker doesn't think so, no he just has to make sure he and his team stay one step ahead of a deadly foe that has already proved himself to be a grand master. Mikael Naramore is one of my favourite narrators and combine his smooth voice with an excellent book and you will find yourself in outer space on a wild adventure.
this last one book in the series was absolutely fun and action packed, seeing how Maker comes and goes with all these missions is incredible enjoyable and I look forward to them really.
When said mission it's taking your worst enemy home, you know you're in for a treat or a threat or both, and the menagerie of characters in this series is absolutely delightful, I loved how the interactions are so complex and yet so wholesome in different levels.
Definitely a must if you like action and sci fi and want to have lots of fun with very sticky situations in alien planets.
After having read the entire trilogy I had to review it. If you want a rip roaring good story, with plenty of actions, more plot twists and turns than Erlan’s hind leg the you need to read this series. By the way you to read the series to find out what or who Erlan is. Enjoy
Loved It! Absolutely wonderful continuation of Arrogant Maker’s ‘special’ relationship with the Vacra with twists and turns from the beginning till the very end. I think it is the best one yet! Hope we get to see more of Erlen, Maker and his crew.
... I still don’t like Dr Chan. But otherwise it’s great, definitely fun to read. A little slower than the first two. I hope there are more Maker adventures to come.
As always Hardman has created a wonderful, exciting universe for the reader to escape into. I truly hope that he decides to keep Gant Maker and his crew up front and in our faces with more adventures. Excellent, exciting, and full of fun!
A great trilogy that will keep you turning pages till the end. Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action. I look forward to the next one 😀
Loved this series and I’m deeply disappointed there are only three books. Great characters, great storyline, great ending AND not a single grammatical or spelling mistake anywhere !
I really enjoyed this story and wish there were more in the series. Well developed relatable characters. Great series. This series was the first I've read by this author but I will definitely be looking for more by him.
When Marine Lieutenant Gant Maker and his team are assigned the task of taking a Vacra home and that it is Skullcap, he is not happy. As the journey continues, perceptions change and all is not as it seems. Good book that brings the trilogy to a good ending.
After reading do far in the series without stopping, a review was in order. It made my mind tingle, read faster than I have in a long time. Learned a few new words, expanded my mind and really entertain. I can't wait to read the next one. Excellent
Another great space opera by Kevin Hardman. Great world-building, all sorts of aliens and a captain and crew it's hard not to like. A great story, well read and very entertaining.
Marine Lieutenant Maker is on another mission that will test him and his crew if they want to come back home. He must take his sworn enemy a Vacra into deep space back toward his home. What they find and fight together with the Vacra is way more than anyone ever expected and could spell the end of humanity if they can not defeat it.
This is a very exciting book, brimming with action and suspense it will take you on a roller coaster ride through space. LT Maker is a very colorful guy and I love his leadership style, he is a great Marine. I will be honest I can in on this book and it is book 3 of the series so I was a bit behind and I am not sure of the whole story but the author gives you a very condensed version so it really isn't a big deal. Narrator Mikael Naramore is awesome with all the characters and you will feel as if you are right there on the ship and part of the crew with them. I really like this book and I hope you all will too.
