Special Agent Alex Penance was the hot shot recruit out of Quantico, picked for early promotion before an evening of celebration turned to an unwitting slip of morality with a high-ranking senator's girlfriend.
Abruptly stripped of his promotion and banished to the sleepy southern town of Sawyer, Mississippi, a disgruntled and embittered Agent Penance wallows in his sudden fall. Wanting nothing more than to find an exit to the town he wants to despise, he finds the people of Sawyer frustratingly charming, none more so than the attractive Assistant District Attorney, Annie Hunt.
Together, Penance and Annie unravel a case of missing girls that leads them to the hands of a brutal drug cartel lieutenant that is boldly captured by Agent Penance. Swearing revenge, the weight of the entire cartel descends on tiny Sawyer, its residents having no choice but to take up arms with Penance in the lead as the town erupts into a full-fledged war.
A New England native, Seth had a storybook childhood growing up in Connecticut. He graduated college at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1993 and transplanted himself in the Pacific Northwest soon after.
Immediately falling in love with northwest topography, Seth made the most of it becoming an experienced hiker, whitewater rafting guide, mountain climber (alright, his friends dragged him up a couple of NW peaks) and skier/snowboarder. Seth now resides on Florida's Gulf coast, trying not to be distracted by dolphins and manatees swimming by.
A serial entrepreneur, Seth has created and partnered with several cutting edge healthcare companies and helped launch two magazines.
Seth supports Hire Heroes USA, Christmas is Not Cancelled and the Mel Green Institute to Combat Human Trafficking with his books.
Reminded me a little of a James Patterson type of read (which I really like) A really great storyline that kept me reading till the last page. Agent Penance is a funny, sarcastic, intelligent, in-depth person, who does not hesitate to engage the bad guys.
The interweave of interesting characters makes this book an exciting story. It is a hard book to put down. The story is centered around an agent who's fallen from grace and is bottoming out in a sleepy, hick town. What he finds there is not what he expected. The hero, Agent Penance, is a funny, sarcastic, intelligent, in-depth character. This book is highly recommended.
I really like the setup of this book - with a federal agent who's fallen from grace and bottoming out in a rural, hick town. And what he finds there is everything he's not expecting. Great read!
