Tsutomu Nihei (弐瓶 勉 Nihei Tsutomu, born 1971) is a Japanese manga artist. His cyberpunk-influenced artwork has gained a strong cult following. He has a relatively large community of fans in Germany where his manga Blame!, NOiSE and Biomega were published by Ehapa. Blame! was also published in France and Spain by Glénat, in the US by Tokyopop and in Italy by Panini Comics.

At first he studied architecture and later it is shown up in his manga works with drawing huge structures. This became one of his general theme that makes his manga unique. His works are usually in black and white. He is also an avid fan of the video game series Halo, as he mentions in his commentary section in the Halo Graphic Novel.

Aw, such pretty drawings! Crap story, though. Again with the regular people nobody cares about. I'm not reading this thing to learn about the struggle of regular folk to survive in a harsh environment. I want spectacular battles, superhuman abilities, death and destruction. The heroes of the story are wasting time too. Planning has its place, but this is outright slacking. They started the volume heading for the emperor and ended it no closer to their goal.

God, I feel like this series cannot make up its mind about plot points. It has something large happen, only for the end before the chapter is even over. Also, what is with the mini side stories with the random villages? Some of them are interesting concepts, but they fly past so quickly, they seem pointless. Also, I don't like Wasabu. He's clearly supposed to be comic relief but the whole way he's written is just irritating, not funny. Ajate, the giant clone is another character that I dislike. She's literally the "Born Sexy Yesterday" trope, with her constantly showing up naked. WHY is she constantly naked? What the hell is the point of her constantly ending up naked?
