Nowhere to Hide: Trapped, abused and sold for sex

Rate this book
A shocking true story that reveals how one woman was tormented to the very depths of despair by her husband through coercive control and continual physical and sexual abuse. When Hannah Morgan first met Matt, she was completely swept off her feet. He offered her the love and security she’d always craved, but once they’d married, Matt’s behaviour suddenly changed. His aggression escalated and before long Hannah was living under his complete control. Cut off from her friends and family, she was subjected to a torrent of mental, physical and sexual abuse from which there was no escape. When Hannah was forced to sell her body, she clung to the final fragment of strength she had left until a chance of escape presented itself… but was it worth the risk? Nowhere to Hide is the shocking true story of how one woman lost everything but defied the odds to survive.

Absolutely heartbreaking true story. I couldn't put it down. I was so sad and angry for Hannah.

Everytime you think it couldn't possibly get any worse, it does. What a brave young woman Hannah is and I hope that this book helps others seeking refuge. Feels so sad that people never reported anything, like the lodger, the next door neighbours, the mother in law if only someone stepped up and spoke out. Love the chapter at the end all about how to get help if you are ever in that situation. Such a shame Hannah didn't know about Refuge etc sooner.

Well written, heart-breaking account of a young woman's life of mental, physical and psychological abuse at the hands of her disgusting excuse for a husband. Her strength and courage is commendable and inspiring.

Best book I have had the pleasure of reading. What this poor woman went through is just absolutely unbelievable and knowing how far she's come out the other side is just such an incredible achievement. When I was reading the part about her children it broke my heart and when I went to bed that night I scooped my 7 week old baby out of her crib and put her in bed with me. So much respect for the Author well done 'Hannah' you should be so proud of yourself.

Knowing Hannah (her pseudonym) this is a painful read, but a truth that needs to be told, and needs to be heard. Because let’s not forget, this is no story, this was her life, and it’s a truth I hope we can learn from

Must Read - Powerful, Inspiring, Heartbreaking

You must read this book! Reading Hannah’s story is painful and heartbreaking yet so, so important. What a strong, brave and inspiring person she is. Things are not always as they seem, and it is important people are aware of this. Look out for each other, help each and spread the message that there is help out there. Nobody is alone. Nobody should have to live in fear.
This book has left me in floods of tears and I am beyond relieved that Hannah had the outcome she did. I will be recommending this book to all of my family and friends - this needs to be read far and wide. Well done Hannah, a true fighter

Wow what an emotional compelling read!
Hannah had I have known you I would have saved you, Poppie and Katie. The sacrifice you gave your girls made me cry so much as a parent. As someone who works in a school and knows the myconcern system it was emotional to see that it can make a difference good or bad but in terms of the child’s safety always a great system.
Thank you for making me grateful that I haven’t had to experience anything like you, yet I feel I have having read this amazing memoir. I hope you find a happy ever after with Poppie and Katie one day soon.

One of the most heartbreaking accounts of abuse I have ever read, by no means a wholly happy ending but Hannah's courage is incredible - a total inspiration.

After reading this book from front to back and now reading it a second time. It is clear why the author chose to change her name and use a pseudonym and to change people's identities. The level of abuse that occurred was some of the worst I have ever read about so it is no wonder that she wishes to keep her and her children's identities a secret.
The amount of honesty and detail that was put into this in the aim to help others understand domestic abuse is amazing and my hat comes of to the author for having such strength to speak up and try make changes for others.this book truly is amazing and the young women who went through all of this is a very amazing strong women . I wish her all the happiness in life . She has been through so much and deserves an award for bravery. This is by far the best book I have ever read . Iam filled with gratitude and inspiration . A true survivor and advocate for all women who may have suffered or who still suffer.
I have recommended this book to many and will continue to do so.

Knowing Hannah personally and being a survivor of domestic abuse it was a very hard and emotional read but wow what an inspiration this woman is!!! The awareness this brings to the nitty gritty and the unseen of domestic abuse that most people wouldn’t know about is amazing. To be able to use such a horrific experience to bring awareness and help others with such incredible selfless strength, me and my partner read Parts of the book together and it’s really did open his eyes to the manipulative and controlling side of abusers. You should be so proud of yourself my super strong survivor sister. I rate this book with the highest rating possible an amazing read and very well done with the way it opens the eyes to the patterns of abuse and highlights the struggles so many people go through every day in silence. I hope this book goes on to help many of its opening the eyes of ignorance or healing the hearts of the hurt knowing they are not alone

This book was very interesting but I found Hannah quite annoying and actually got angry quite a bit throughout the book that she allowed this man to treat her so badly resulting in her losing her children. Then also stating she did not know about womens refuges and that she could not seek help and continued supporting his vile behaviour. BUT until you have walked in her shoes do you really know what your reaction would be!!!

Listened on Audible.
A very emotional true story of what this woman endured throughout many years of her life at the hands of her husband. At times it was quite difficult to listen to, especially with the descriptions of physical and sexual abuse. It's explained in a lot of detail, including beatings, burns and even stabbings. Though her story absolutely deserves to be told, to educate and raise awareness of what can go on behind closed doors.

Everything was taken away from her, financial stability, losing her two daughers, contact with friends and family. She was even starved and forced to take diet pills to please her husband. I couldn't believe what I was listening to and I did sit there with my jaw on the floor in shock at times. Not to mention the prostitution "business" that she was also forced to be the center of which was ran from an office building. Just awful.

Couldn't stop listening, it's a very compelling story.

Utterly gut wrenching, had me in tears several times. But what a strong, strong woman she is, to achieve all that she has after what she has gone through. I think most people would give up, but she never lost hope.

SPOILER

Loosing her beautiful girls was absolutely devastating, and the system is fucked up for that. She 100% deserved to get them back, and I truly hope that she will be reunited with them in the future.

So glad that he got the maximum sentence, after everything he put her through. Absolute scumbag, horrible, nasty man!

At times, this is a very difficult book to read. But Hannah really experienced this and she lived it and was strong enough to write it - so she deserves huge respect and congratulations. Hannah and thousands of survivors like her are a million times braver than the weak, pathetic abusers they had the misfortune to have in their lives. Brilliant, important book. Strongly recommend that every adult reads this.

Amazing, shocking and emotional read.

This is one of those books that is so hard to put down. I read it in almost one sitting.

It is a really shocking read... Hannah tells in detail the utterly shocking and evil way Matt abused her.

It made me cry, horrified me and cheer on Hannah as she fought to get free of her abuser.

Definitely will be a hard read for anyone else who has been/is a victim of domestic violence but worth it! There were definitely moments it got my heart racing and my nerves shot and I had to set it down and take a break but every time I was still itching to pick it back up and keep reading. The resources and tips added to the end was a beautiful touch. Heartbreaking and triumphant.

This book is devastating. I spent most of the time wanting to scream, and then when she finally starts to take charge of her life I feel like she was just victim blamed and victimized by the system. Truly it pissed me off. I felt she deserved so much better than what she got, but it is an eye opening piece on how people can manipulate and fake advantage of you.

Heartbreaking what Hannah went through and also how long she went through it. I hope she gets the help to get over what happened to her. She was in an absolute living nightmare and will take a lot of courage to undo the damage.
