This is atmospheric reading "Rise of the Ripper" took me by surprise: I was expecting a straightforward retelling of real crimes, but I got a quiet, intense psychological thriller with London fog and a slight hint of the paranormal. The plot jumps from the Victorian era to the present — diaries, a family tree, Larry the explorer — and you gradually see how the past penetrates your life. At first, I was confused about the time jumps and titles, and the middle seemed a little slow to me, but the prose is simple, the scenes breathe, and I kept telling myself, “just another chapter.” I liked that the author delves into “why” rather than "dried blood": shame, rejection, choice, and the old theme of "nature versus nurture" without giving lectures. Historical chapters overshadow modern ones, but in the finale, bonds are formed. There is violence, sometimes acute, but without frills. This is atmospheric reading for readers who value psychology and the legacy of evil more than procedural puzzles and rigorous documentary accuracy.
Oh this started dark. Oh so dark. Tina’s giving me palpitations. But it was so good. Once again everything I knew about the characters is thrown out the window and new events and times happen.
