Thunderstruck

Rate this book
Evangeline Webber was intoxicated the first time she saw the Ghost Horse at Silver Spear Ranch. But the sight of the magnificent animal shimmering in the moonlight sobered her up quick. Now, it haunts her dreams, luring her towards aloof cowboy, Maverick Cambios-Plata. Maverick is known for his calming presence around the abused horses at his rescue. The effect he has on Evangeline is far different. Her body aches to be near him, to learn all the secrets she can sense he’s keeping hidden.

Maverick avoids ranch guests, preferring the companionship of the horses. Yet when Evangeline arrives, he finds himself drawn to her. She invades his every thought, a lasso of attraction pulling him to her. But it’s his responsibility to preserve a legacy only a select few know of, and he can’t risk the distraction.

With both Evangeline and Maverick harboring secrets, will revealing the truth offer them a chance at a beautiful future or destroy any chance the two may have had?

For 25 years, I've worked as a sports writer. I decided now was the time to pursue romance fiction as an author. I found a great group of RWA author friends who have helped me tremendously.
I get great support from my husband, and although they don't know it, my three parrots and dog give me a huge boost everyday.

Having never read a horse shifter book before, I wasn't sure what to expect from Thunderstruck, but I was intrigued. And what fun it was! This is a short book with steamy scenes and seems to set up a series. It's definitely got that delicious fated-mates vibe I love in a paranormal. I also liked that the heroine is a little older than the typical romance heroine and has enough life experience to make her wary of hooking up with a shifter. An enjoyable read, and I hope there are more in the series.

This was a different type of romance for me as I don’t normally read paranormal romance. It was intriguing and different and engendered a desire in me to read others in the series. My heart was breaking for Evangeline and for Maverick for different reasons, but eventually they discovered love. I would have liked to know a little bit earlier in the story why Evangeline was grieving and blaming herself and almost gave in to thumbing through to find the reason, but I held off. There is one scene described in the book between Evangeline and her father that had me ugly crying. It was so beautifully, emotionally written. Based on the descriptions in the book, my desire to visit South Dakota has intensified. I wish Silver Spear Ranch was real.
I won this book in a giveaway. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Repost of my original review at Amazon.com.

I received this book for free from the author for an honest review.

Paranormal is my jam so when I saw Anna was starting a new series, I jumped at reading it. I was like Horse shifters? Huh? Cowboys too? HRMM My interest was piqued.

When I opened the book and read where the concept came from, I was like OHHHH This was be a story with great imagery. I was not let down by the image that Anna paints for us of the cabins, lodging, family style vacation Lily is having.

When the story starts, we know Lily is sad and hiding from life. She slowly opens and we find out her story of loss and guilt over the loss of her husband. We see Lily enjoying life at the ranch and embracing the lifestyle while also wondering If she will every return the city life.

Maverick/Mav/Rick is the grumpy but hot alpha cowboy on the ranch. He slowly starts to spend time with Lily which the family is super excited about because Mav does not do people. LOL Remember he is a broody male.

We see Lily and Rick spending time together and forming deep connections. We see Lily struggle to open to him and we see him fear for his secret. He is falling in hard and deep for this feisty woman but he fears rejection at what he is.

When the story unfolds and everything is laid out on the table, Lily finds out a lot about herself and Rick. She must make some decisions and face her past.

I so loved the story. The family and their resolve to make sure everyone is taken care of. The way the family opens to Lily and is hopeful for the relationship they can all see developing. I am so excited for more in the series. I think watching Keller fall might be the best since he was giving Rick so much of a hard time over Lily.

Fun, easy read.
That being said - do NOT read it if you are looking for hot smut. Most of time, the smut is either rushed or skipped altogether, which is unusual for the shifter-genre.
The sex is described by the FMC as being amazing, but we never really experience that on the pages.
This is definitely a book for readers who prefer a nice love story with only a tiny tiny helping of spice. (I'm obviously not one of those)

I quite enjoyed this book though. The characters are endearing - and MATURE which I appreciated a lot - and if the author continues this series, I'll definitely read the next one.
The reasons I'm only giving it 3 stars are because the two main characters weren't described very well physically, which made it hard to imagine them. Also, the supernatural aspects needed more fleshing out/more details, in my opinion. The story ended too quickly for my liking and there were a few editing mistakes (missing words in sentences, that sort of thing), which took me out of the story a bit.
All in all, if you don't mind lack of spice, adores horses and the supernatural and are okay with the story being cut off when they finally commit to each other, I am 100% sure you will enjoy it.

Evangeline has found the perfect place to hide from her past. The only trouble is, other people have found it too but she makes the best with what she has. Maverick is one of the family who owns the ranch and he comes chock-full of secrets.

The story is set up nicely and the descriptions of the characters, places, and horses are wonderful. For me, the thing that brought down the rating was the actual relationship between Evangeline and Maverick itself. Yes, they had heat but I didn’t really feel anything else. Evangeline changed her mind so many times about Maverick and his secret, I had whiplash! Yes, I know it’s a tough secret to get your head around but there was just too much to-ing and fro-ing for me.

All in all, this was a nice easy read with a HEA for our main couple.

This is the first time I’ve read this author but it won’t be the last. I love the mystery surrounding the ranch, and I have never read a horse shifter story before. Maverick co-owns the ranch with his “family”. He is a grumpy recluse but a godsend when it comes to working with the horses. Evangeline is on a sabbatical from well, life. He normally doesn’t mingle with the guests but there is just something different about Evangeline plus she has been there for a couple of months. They start spending time together and it is harder and harder to keep their respective secrets. They both eventually come clean but will she stick around once she knows what Maverick has been hiding?

I love starting a new series and throw in it being a Paranormal Romance and horse shifters , heck yeah!!
Maverick is so broody and he is so much a hermit almost on the ranch but then he sees Lily and these two start spending time together , she is there because of the loss of her husband and these two are pulled together , his family sees this happening and want it for them both so badly.
I need the next one asap because I need the rest of them to find what these two did

Beautifully written

Although I normally don’t read shifter books I must say I really enjoyed this story. It was a beautifully written story about finding happiness, peace and love in a wonderful place and in an unexpected way. The author did a wonderful job of giving this story depth and emotions I wasn’t expecting.
