Thomas never thought he would live this long; he expected the usual lifespan of 60 to 70 years. But one terrifying night in 1946 San Francisco has changed all that; he has now been alive 86 years and still looks 20. He and his associates, Jonathan and Kathryn, have been granted Immortality by a group of sylphs belonging to the Zie Council – lead by their queen, Malina – who possess an elixir called Enchantment. But what they and the rest of the Immortals have to do in order to keep receiving this elixir involves protecting sylphs and humans from the faeworlders – vampires and shapeshifters – who want nothing more than to eat, violate, and kill them. For Jonathan, Thomas, and Kathryn, policing the fae is a dirty job, but somebody has to do it. And the payment is eternally priceless.

I loved this book. What a great read. The story the author spins had me captivated from the first page. There is an enchanting style to this book which draws you in. It might just be me but I felt a touch of C.S Lewis in the sense that the writing style and prose took me someplace else where I could fully believe in the words that the author had written on the page. The characters (my favourite being Thomas) are all well drawn and have a real depth. The dialogue is smoothly written and engaging. The world building is fantastic and I got a sense that all of this could truly be going on without anyone of us knowing. A great first novel from an author who I will continue to follow. Please bring out the sequel ASAP. Loved it!

Ah what an amazing book this way. I decided to random the books on my kindle and it decided on this one and I’m super happy it did.

This story was interesting although I was confused at times with so many different point of views, I got lost on who was who and what part of the story it was on but I quickly caught on and I very much enjoyed this story.

I must admit in the past I haven’t really fancied reading anything supernatural but lately I’ve been loving the especially this one. This has been the first book with immortals in and they’re so intriguing. This storyline was fascinating and I just couldn’t seem to put the book down.

This author is a new author for me, this is the first book I’ve read and I’ll make sure to read more in the future.

Thomas O’Malley was just a regular young man of 20 when his entire world changed. After an attack in an alleyway on his way home from work he is almost killed. He is given a new life as an Immortal whose job it is to protect the sylph and humans from supernatural creatures.

The story jumps back and forth from present day to when Thomas was attacked in 1946. We see the struggle he had in the beginning of his new life with new friends, other Immortals, and the pain his father goes through not knowing what happened to his son.

In order to remain Immortal they need doses of ‘Enchantment’ by the sylph every 5 years. Vampires believe that by drinking ‘Enchantment’ themselves they will be able to walk in the daylight, but getting their hands on it isn’t as easy as they would like it to be. Will it do what they hope it will do or will there be devastating results?

This is a great story, of love, friendship, and danger. I found myself drawn into the adventure like I was I was living the journey myself. I was sad to see it end, but thrilled to know it’s only the first in a series. I look forward to reading more about the wonderful (and not so wonderful) band of characters in future books.

'Enchanted Immortals' is C.J. Pinard's debut novel. This is a great book that put me in the mind-set of authors like J.R. Ward and Laurell K. Hamilton. As well as being a fantasy/paranormal it is also a good cop thriller. The novel is full of action, adventure, emotion, great characters and great storyline.

There are many characters and different groups of people. Each of them adding their own layer to the story. There are the Immortals, the sylphs, humans, vampires and shapeshifters. For a debut novel this is a splendid introduction to many of the characters, enabling the reader to connect instantly and thus, making it easier to follow them should there be more books in the series.

The main focus of the story is on Thomas O'Malley. Thomas O'Malley endured a life-changing ordeal and ultimately became an Immortal. It is an Immortal's job to protect the sylph and humans from vampires and shapeshifters. To remain an Immortal they need doses of 'Enchantment' provided by the sylph. The vampires want to steal the 'Enchantment in the hope that it will allow them to daywalk. But will they succeed in obtaining it? If they do, will it work? Thomas works with Jonathan and Kathryn and at times they find themselves in some predicaments with the vampires and shapeshifters.

One of my favourite elements of the story are the flashbacks throughout the separate era's. The reader is taken on a journey through Thomas' past and how his disappearance affected his parents. Joseph O'Malley, Thomas' dad, is one of my favourite characters. His story is heartbreaking, sorrowful but completely full of unconditional love. He works as a cop for the San Francisco Police Department and tries to do everything within his power to try and find out what happened to Thomas. As Thomas is an Immortal he is not supposed to be known to man, and therefore Thomas must not contact his father in any way. This is beautifully written and I was very touched by these characters and this particular storyline.

The magic element of 'Enchanted Immortals' along with the 'Enchantment' and the fae people holds a similar imagery in my mind as that in the 'Meredith Gentry' novels by Laurell K. Hamilton. However, this novel has more realism, with the San Francisco Police Department, the Bureau of Supernatural Investigations (BSI) and Thomas' parents and past. The combination of the two, fantasy and realism, remind me of J.R. Ward's 'Fallen Angel' series.

In 'Enchanted Immortals' the government have set up a new body, the Bureau of Supernatural Investigations (BSI), to investigate the strange happenings of missing people, mutilated bodies, anything that seems to have no explanation. This set up brought back memories of watching 'The X-Files', although instead of 'Dana Scully' and 'Fox Mulder', C.J. Pinard has Agent Adam Swift and Agent Anthony Bianchi. These are another pair of my favourite characters. I love the thriller side of this novel, the investigations, the mysteries that these agents need to try and unfold.

There is also some romance in parts but I am sure this will become more intense during the follow-up novels. I was excited to hear that there would be a follow-up as the reader is left needing to know so much more even though this book is wrapped up beautifully. Thank you C.J. Pinard!

Enchanted Immortals is a fun read that I would strongly encourage you to check out.

The story starts out quite slow – a word of warning. It looks like an attempt to do some world-building, but it’s quite a bit of lag. If you can get past the first few chapters, however, the story gets a lot better. You just have to make it through those first bits.

Thomas O’Malley is our protagonist and he’s been tasked with guarding the Sylphs and happens to be immortal as well. This creates a set of circumstances that can make it hard for Thomas and his immediate family – there is a strict ‘no contact’ policy in play that makes things tough for Thomas’ father as well as Thomas himself. Of all of the characters, Thomas is given the most development and there is an excellent story just in Thomas and his interactions with the world. That his father and several other characters happen to share the world, and the page, with him is gravy.

The book is a little tricky to follow – it uses a series of time jumps to follow the story through several time periods. Thomas’ immortality plays a part of this, but it does get confusing occasionally to track the different viewpoints and what is going on in each ‘era.’ Reading it on my Kindle made this even more difficult, as the file liked to jump around when I was trying to navigate – the most recent update to it appears to have fixed the problem, but that was after I had read it.
But, back to the characters. As I said, Thomas is the most developed and he is a believable main character. He is interesting – as an immortal, his interactions with the Fae world and the real world are sometimes in conflict. He tries to handle those conflicts as best he can, but he is still ‘human’ which means that he makes mistakes in resolving those conflicts. It makes for a good, authentic read.

The plot is a bit slow – even after the introduction. It’s also a bit predictable – you can see several of the conflicts coming. This is especially true of the conflicts that are coming from the new division of the United States government that has been tasked with investigating and monitoring the Fae. How the author handles those conflicts, however, is what sells the story. CJ Pinard does an excellent job of making the conflicts seem unique and special even when they play to the common tropes. Just because I saw the conflict coming did not mean that I did not want to see how she would write it . Pinard’s sense of conflict is excellent and well developed, making even the common conflicts interesting and suspenseful.

This is clearly a first book – there are a number of conflicts that are too large to settle in one story. A quick check of Amazon reveals a series of sequels and a novella about the new government agency that has formed in response to the Fae. That’s not unsurprising – it’s clear the Pinard wants to build on the conflicts established here at the outset by about half-way through the book.
All in all, Enchanted Immortals is a good start to a series with an excellent protagonist. The pacing may need a little work, but it shouldn’t be enough to keep you from checking out the book.

The cover caught my attention but the story line hooked me from page one.

Thomas’s life changed one night in 1946 when he was attacked by vampires and werewolves. Now he has been granted with Immortality by Sylphs and along with his two associates, Jonathan, and Kathryn they protect the humans and Sylphs from vampires and werewolves. But the vampires want the very same elixir that gives immortality called Enchantment so they have the ability to day walk. So they come up with a plan to kidnap the queen Sylph to make them the elixir but things don’t go as planned. Thomas and his associates must fight dirty to get back the queen before they can get the elixir.

I really loved enjoyed this book. I think one of my favorite parts was how it would go from the present to Thomas’s past. This way we got to see how he became the man he is today and how he struggled accepting his new destiny. I also loved Thomas’s dad Joseph his story line broke my heart the most. He always knew Thomas wasn’t killed and he spent his entire life trying to figure out what happened to him that night in the alley even going has far as working with a special task force on the FBI who knows about the vampires and werewolves. I don’t want to say much but Thomas does show himself to his dad towards the end and it’s a heart breaking and loving moment between father and son. I loved all the characters they all add to the story line and it’s never a dull moment with any of them.

Enchanted Immortals is a great first book with a heart breaking, action packed, and adventure, with a little romance hinted at that I am hoping is followed up in book two that I am impatiently waiting on. 5/5 Bloody Fangs

Ms. Carolyn Johnson Pinard has proved a great writing style as far as I've read. She has created original characters and give them such full personalities that I've been able to give them a face and a life in my
mind. I'm still discovering the geography of the world and times in this book... but I believe it will be a treat after the tragedies of the last book I read. I'm already trapped in the webs of letters and
print in this book. Each of the characters I've met till now have perfectly well defined personalities and I feel like I've known them for a while. I love the way I can understand their feelings just by their attitudes and actions. The author has a wonderful narration expressing emotions and connecting them to the reader. And when I finally got to the end of it, it's not really the end, I now have... must read Enchanted Immortals 2: The vortex. As I said before, I love these characters and I need to know more about them... plus... who knows where their relationships will take us.

“It was an initiation ceremony. Upon reaching eighteen, the Zie threw a ceremony for each sylph. Drinks flowed freely and all the new female sylphs stood around, dressed in bright colors, holding girlie drinks, and talking with each other.”

“The year was 1940, and they were so ahead of their time.”

Or as someone else once said, “You had me at hello.”

Enchanted Immortals has fun. It has fun with its readers, it has fun with its characters, and it has fun with its story.

Don’t expect anything deadly serious. C. J. Pinard has whipped up a frothy Cosmo of a novel that wouldn’t be out of place in an episode of Sex and the City. Not enough of those. It will demand a bit of effort from the reader at times, with its unique narrative style of jumping into the heads of various characters during the same scene, but fortune favors those who push the envelope.

There is already a second novel in the series, and a third on the way, so keep that in mind when you reach its end.

I’ve always been a fan of imaginary worlds, and when I read the description of Enchanted Immortals, I could not resist. I enjoyed this novel from cover to cover! Jonathan, a twenty year old, is almost killed one night on his way home in 1946, but instead dying, the Zie Council offers him the opportunity to become immortal. For that, he has to protect the sylphs from vampires and shape shifters. This novel is packed with action, romance and adventure! Ms. Pinard, interestingly, moves the story back and forth in time, but makes it flow perfectly. My favorite feature of the novel is that part of it is set in San Francisco in the 40’s. If you are up for a fantasy novel full of action and a plot that will keep you at the edge of your seat, Enchanted Immortals is perfect for you.

Wow! All I can say is wow! This first book was sure an attention grabber from the beginning. If you like Fairies, Vamps, and Immortals with powers, then this is the book for you.

I love it when an author plainly tells you the past from the present, and C.J. Pinard does this. She doesn't leave you guessing, it is clearly outlined. I love it also that the author didn't get to "wordy" in her descriptions, as I do tend to get bored when they do that.

I fell in love with Thomas and Melina! My heart broke for Thomas' dad, as the story sucked me in till the very end. A great place to end book 1, as there were no lingering questions.

I would totally recommend this book!

Excellent story. Give this story a try, you will not be disappointed. I have to say, this is a case of don't judge a book by its cover. The cover is very pretty, but did not match the storyline for me. This is a great cop story. This puts me in the mind of the old tv shows, where you watch the cops connect the dots and even better, the storyline was not obvious. Spoiler alert: I love how the end brings everything full circle, it was exactly what you end up wishing for your character. I am looking forward to reading the next installment !!!

This is for the first time I read a book of this genre. It is difficult to say whether I liked the book or not. Actually the book was going on a good pace so I was not bored. I also liked the way the writer has juggled between two different time period. However, I felt there were some missing links where C J Pinard did not do justice - for instance what heppened to Nell O'Malley, how she died, when she died. Similarly did Joseph O'Malley manage to get any clues on Immortal Cops? What was the need to build the romantic scene between Kathryn and Tony Bianchi. Where did Tony disapper after his episode with Kathryn... etc.

Deapite the flaws, I feel the book was not bad and I enjoyed the read.

Dear Lord, what a train wreck. The premise is cliche, there is an odd untimely period switch and damn does this need editing! Talking about 50s deco in a 40s time period shows how much is lacking in this novel. The execution is just bad. There are tense switches throughout individual sentences and paragraphs, which just drove me nuts. I think this is a case of an author biting off far more than they can chew.

C.J. Pinard gifted this book to me in exchange for a review. This is probably one of the hardest reviews I have ever had to write. Unfortunately, while the grammar, sentence structure and punctuation were great in this book, the story line fell short for me. I felt that the characters did not have much depth. Although the book jumped from past to present a lot, it did not provide much for character development. The book did not hold my attention well given that I had to keep re-reading parts to recall how things fit together.
I like that C.J. made drew the past and present together through Thomas and his father and that part of the story line resolved well. I did have a hard time tracking the parts of the story around Pascal, the sylphs and the wolves, I think that is also because in the beginning of a book I like to see some descriptors of what the author sees that each preternatural consists of. I did not feel that there was a good descriptor of sylphs other than that they make something that the immortals need.
I hope that the next books in this series expand on these characters so that they all tie together. I am hoping to see more back story on Jonathon, Katherine, and Tony to learn how they all became who they are (immortality).

I don't usually write reviews, but I felt that there were some egregious errors that needed mentioning. This book features different time period narratives, the first being 1947, the year the protagonist was changed into an immortal. The problem lies in that the author doesn't know how to set a scene in the 1940s. The characters use the term "genes" in an era where genetics was not a science used in the vernacular. the author paints a picture of a red leather seated diner, clearly a 50s era diner. If you are going to write a novel about something as common as vampires, werewolves, and immortal beings, at least let us believe in the world you are creating.

The story is about Thomas O’Malley who became immortal. As an immortal he had to protect the sylph and humans from the shape shifters and vampires. Every 5 years the immortals in this story need to take doses of ‘Enchantment’ to remain immortal. Vampires are after this ‘Enchantment’ as they believe it could change them to day walkers. The time jumps/flashbacks in this book are a bit too much, too fast, making it somewhat confusing...if it was not for that, I would have given this book 4 stars. It will be interesting to see how the relationships develop between the characters as the series continues with Enchanted Immortals 2: The Vortex.

I really enjoyed this twist on a paranormal story. It does jump around in time, but it was still fairly easy to follow. It was an easy read and I like how the characters work together to "police" the paranormal. They are given an immortal life since they have seen things they never should have and they have special powers that go along with their new life.

A very interesting read. I had a bit of trouble getting into it at first, but eventually it grabbed my attention and I couldn't put it down. The characters are good. There are a few emotional moments that put tears in my eyes. There's even action, adventure, and mystery. I will definitely read the next in the series and be recommending this book!
