Who doesn't want to reverse aging and be healthier but in reading this book I found some suggestions kind of far out. It has a lot of good information but some things it suggests doesn't seem like anything I would do. It was alright but other than saying coffee is good for you I didn't find much to jump on board with him.

This book is all about how to help with aging, depression and wellness it says. Fasting, getting good sleep and eating right is a main theme. It has many suggestions on fasting and that's what the title is saying you should skip breakfast and drink coffee. It is a fast from not eating after dinner till lunch the next day and he says it is beneficial. I found the book informative but wouldn't try any of these suggestions without talking to your doctor first. He did include some ideas about Covid 19 like eating garlic.

All in all this book is interesting and is worth looking at.

This book was clearly meticulously well researched yet it reads quite easily. The facts and figures are there, but it’s not at all dry. I really enjoyed reading it and was surprised to find there were quite a few things that I could be doing more of to improve my health. I’m fairly knowledge about the recent health data, but this book definitely has new information for me. What I also liked is that the author is not just promoting the latest dietary fad, but rather takes a combined holistic and scientific approach to supporting better health and the fight against aging. It’s also reassuring to know that these recommendations come from an author who is a real practicing physician.

"Why Doctor's Skip Breakfast" was a very interesting book. I especially enjoyed his summary recommendations which are applicable to everyone. The suggestions for reducing the risk for COVID-19 make the book relevant for today. The writer, as a physician, is extremely knowledgeable about achieving good health, living a meaningful life, and feeling young. I did struggle at times following the medical explanations, since I do not have a background in that field.

Gregory Charlop, MD, starts off with the reasoning behind the writing of Why Doctors Skip Breakfast: Wellness Tips to Reverse Aging, Treat Depression, and Get a Good Night’s Sleep. It is a fascinating book with well-researched and evidence-based courses of action for how people can help themselves enjoy physical and emotional well-being during their lifetime. Dr. Charlop advocates that a combination of a healthy diet, optimal sleep, dietary supplements, and appropriate medication is not only beneficial in helping people be more successful in preventing diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and stroke but also is key to improving mental health.

Terminology relevant to the topic of aging is explained in a clear natural language style that helps keep readers interested in what Dr. Charlop has to share. Black and white drawings, tables, and graphs are integrated seamlessly into the text and wonderfully complement all of the material that Dr. Charlop presents with thorough explanations. I found the book useful in providing practical suggestions for how to combat and reduce the effects of aging along with how to boost the immune system to help the body fight off respiratory illness, like the coronavirus.

Dr. Charlop is knowledgeable and highly qualified to write this thought-provoking book, which presents anti-aging techniques that can be incorporated into people’s lives and help prevent and/or reverse aging and boost health. There are recommended resources in some of the chapters for those wanting more in-depth knowledge of a particular subject. Comprehensive references in relation to scientific research data that include books, websites, scientific papers, and sources related to the topics addressed by Dr. Charlop in relation to the aging process are listed at the end of the book. As inroads are made in anti-aging research, readers can go to Dr. Charlop’s website for the latest information.

Why Doctor’s Skip Breakfast is a health and wellness book that promises to give you all the answers you need to prevent aging, cure depression and live a long, healthy life, however, the book, in my opinion, under delivers on its promise. I found the information to be basic information most people already know ( eat well, exercise, get a good night sleep). With a couple of small exceptions, there’s no new information here. I was hoping for something more.
In the books defense, I read a lot of health and wellness books such as this one,
someone who hasn’t may find it helpful.

Thank you CMRC for an advanced copy of this book which I voluntarily reviewed.

"Why Doctors Skip Breakfast" is a well-researched book full of interesting information. The author is obviously very familiar with his subject matter, and highly qualified to discuss it.

The book is written in easy-to-read, everyday language. The necessary medical terms are defined in a special section for quick reference. I found the verbiage very straightforward and was able to understand everything without having any sort of medical background.

The anti-aging information offered by this book all makes sense, and I think it would work for anyone who was able to follow a good percentage of the tips. The big issue is that, due to the cost of many of the supplements, treatments, and ideas, doing all of these things will likely be out of the price range of many people. While I enjoyed learning about what causes aging, and what can limit the effects of it, I was disappointed to find relatively few tips that were both practical and affordable.

That being said, I did find a few take-away suggestions that I am implementing. Hopefully they'll have some benefit even if I'm not able to do everything in the book.

Although I have quite a few criticisms about this book, I will start by saying that it did ultimately reach its goal (I think) as I will be committing more seriously to intermittent fasting in the future as not only a weight management strategy but also an all-around health tool. So that’s a win!

But to start off, this book begins with some VERY lofty promises (“this book will undoubtedly change your life!” type promises) and a long preamble before actually getting to the meat of the book - something that’s always been a pet peeve of mine with nonfiction books.

I also wonder how relevant this book will be in only a few years, as the author is constantly saying that this is recent research, things in the field are continuously changing, and reminding the reader to check his website for updates. This is a big reason I usually prefer blog posts/internet searches for this type of information and find it hard to recommend a book that I’m certain will be out of date not too far into the future.

While I’m sure that all of this author’s suggestions are valid, I can’t help but point out that if the reader did EVERYTHING he lists in this book, they would be spending thousands and thousands of dollars on therapies and technologies and supplements and services. Not only is it not helpful when you’re getting advice you literally don’t have the means to take, but it’s also disheartening to realize that while aging can be slowed, it’s really only an option for the most wealthy.

And to get really nit-picky:

After every single section or big idea (fasting, for example) we were usually reminded that we should also be doing the following:
Exercising regularly
Eating raw/real foods
Getting enough sleep
Meditating
Reflecting on things we are grateful for
Exposing yourself to green spaces and fresh air
Surrounding yourself with friends and family

I know that these are all great things, but you know we have heard these ALL before. I did not think these were value-adding tips.

I do have a few more things I did enjoy about the book to round out this review:

There was a small section where the author pointed out the issues with schools starting so early in the morning and how that negatively affects adolescents because of the way their bodies are programmed for sleep. This was new information to me and I enjoyed reading it.

I also appreciated the part near the end where he cautions not to put off all of your dreams until retirement because that time is never guaranteed. I think it was very self-aware to acknowledge that you can do all you can do to prolong your life, but you still need to live it while you have it because we are human.

Thank you to the author and the Review Crew Facebook group for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Only a small section about skipping breakfast (fasting by various methods) the rest was about other things to stay healthy including getting enough sleep, eating properly.

But what turned me off what his chart about life spans over centuries. According to him, our life spans have lengthened with time with the average life span being 30 years in medieval times. This is really disingenuous. Many, many people lived much longer than that. If you could live to adulthood, youprobly lived to a ripe old age. There were so many deaths of infants, children, women in child bearing that it brought the "average" down.
