Love doesn’t always start with the heart. Sometimes, it starts with a child.
Struggling with the loss of his pack and his wolf, Dominic leaves the safety of Eden to help rescue others like him. With no family left, it feels like there’s no place for him in the world. Until he finds Adriel, a young man with whom Dominic shares a deep and shocking connection.
Wings alone aren’t enough for him to soar.
Adriel has known walls and chains for so long, they almost seem like home to him. But then the most precious things in his life are taken—his baby boys. He has no hope of ever finding them again, until Dominic.
“They took them. They took our babies.”
Scrambling to get his head around the fact that he’s somehow a father, Dominic sets off to rescue his and Adriel’s cubs. Along the way, he tries to show Adriel that there is more to life than the loneliness he’s known. Falling in love was never the plan, but when danger pushes them closer, he knows what they have is something worth fighting for.
Soaring is the second book of the Wolf Born trilogy. It’s a somewhat slow burn m/m shifter romance, featuring babies (past mpreg), car chases, and a happy ending. Soaring has some difficult themes and isn’t suitable for readers under the age of eighteen.
Claire Cullen is an author and aspiring baker. Since she was a toddler, she has loved making up stories. Getting them down on paper proved a challenge in the early years when her preferred medium was finger puppets. She moved on to pen and paper, and later to keyboards, and hasn't looked back since, except for occasional bouts of nostalgia.
Wow! There is a much greater range of emotion in this book than any of her others; there's cruelty, tenderness and as always, love. And then there are the babies! Loved this book and can't wait for the next one.
Rating: 4 stars I am really enjoying this series. I like the idea of these misfit “wolves” banding together to make a new pack. I loved both Adriel and Dominic as the MCs. If I had one complaint it would be that the book was a bit predictable. I saw the big twist coming a mile away. Other than that it was really good and I’m looking forward to the next one in the series.
Following fairly immediately after the first book Dominic is out on the hunt for the scientists who took his wolf in a bid for revenge. Instead he finds another new wolf, Adriel, and learns that they have children together who have been recently stolen. Dominic and Adriel find themselves on a hunt for their children as they learn unexpected things about each other.
Dominic struggles in this book as having lost his wolf he feels that he is only half of what he used to be. Though he helps Adriel and wants to retrieve their children, there is always this background idea he has that he isn't worthy of it all. That without his wolf he cannot be with this new family. It is a struggle and one that takes him time to come to terms with.
Adriel has his own struggles and fears. We quickly learn that he is something very different as a new wolf and has dealt with the White Coats for longer than most any other person. His life has been shaped by labs, tests, and constant degradation. Adriel is aware that he should be allowed safety and peace, but years of being told he is a freak and that he is wrong have made him question if he should be around others for both is safety and theirs. Learning to allow love is a struggle for him as well.
This book does a great job diving a bit more into the past. There is a connection here to the start of the new wolves and everything going on, as well as all that the white coats have been doing. There is also a good pitch towards the future as it becomes clear what needs to be done to safeguard it. This promises more from the series and it will be great to see what these new plans bring in the next book!
Welcome back to the world of Eden. My old friends pulled me back into their lives from the first pages. An old enemy returns. Yes, there is violence. But there is also courage, discovery, sexy scenes, joy, family, a miracle and adorable twins. What's not to love! Adriel has been chained by the white coats since he was a child. He can't believe his rescuer was also captive, and father of his twin babies. Babies that were taken from him. They have wings, just like Adriel. Dominic isn't looking for a mate. Returning to the facility where his wolf was eradicated was supposed to be a simple job. He doesn't expect Adriel, or the fact he's a father. But they are pack and his, so he has to act. Come. Follow the two of them as they seek & rescue their sons, and make their way to Eden. Along the way they will meet an unlikely ally & loyal friends. They will learn the true meaning of pack & family. Dominic & Adriel will get HEA. But the ending will have you gasping as the plot twists and miracles occur. You will love this book! This book is part of a series. I recommend reading the first book. Not only will it give you vital background, but it's a great read. I can't wait to read the next book. This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
This, the second in the Wolf Born series, follows Dominic, a wolf who was genetically altered so he is unable to shift. After finding safety in Eden, he returns to the lab where he was transformed, planning to kill whoever he finds or learn what he can to destroy the people who hurt him. He discovers the dead body of a worker in the parking lot and inside he finds their the white coats latest victim, Adriel a young man with angel wings. It isn’t as easy as walking out with Adriel. While looking for information he encounters two bassinets. Bassinets that smell like pack—and Adriel. The people who imprisoned Dominic used his genetic material to inseminate Adriel, who is an omega. Their babies are missing and they will need help, determination and faith in themselves and each other to bring them safely back to Eden. I read a lot of Mpreg and ABO, so I can tell you there aren’t many writers as good as Claire Cullen in this category. She deftly weaves in the paranormal hook without forgetting her characters’ emotional journey. There is plenty of action and tension, but even more heart. Each of her books is well-paced, edited, and satisfying, and this one is no exception.
Soaring is the second book in the Wolf Born series, which explores the genetics and mechanics of humanity: what makes a person? What makes a monster? It can be read as a standalone but definitely makes more sense if you read book 1 first. Both Dominic and Adriel have seen the monstrous side of humanity and lived to fight another day, despite the best efforts of their captors to hobble them. Dominic has lost his family and his wolf; Adriel lost his family and his freedom. When they find each other and begin to fall in love, they help each other to heal and grow; along the way lots of secrets are uncovered that will affect the rest of the series Soaring is well written as always; the characters are well drawn and Claire Cullen continues to develop her ability to show past and depth without resorting to hundreds of flashbacks. Cullen also has an ability to easily convince the reader of the plausibility of her world and the relationships within it. I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave a voluntary review.
This is book 2 in the series. While technically it might stand alone, in practice an awful lot of world building was done in book one, and some of the secondary characters who are nonetheless really important in this book were introduced there.
This is an mpreg world, but not alpha/beta/omega (there are alpha wolves, but this is not an ABO universe), and all of the babies thus far are petri dish babies--albeit ones reunited with their unwilling sperm donors to be willing fathers/pack. Eden is a haven for shifters saved from a group of evil genetic mad scientist, and I assume that by the end of the series, we'll have somehow brought that organization down.
As with Book 1, the story involves bad guys dying, drones, car chases, a LOT of sneaking, and a romantic couple involving one wolf and one something else. In book 1, it was a merman. In book 2, well, Adriel is his own creature, but if you wanted to categorize him, you'd call him an angel.
So, Adriel was a very interesting character. He was so vulnerable yet strong. He was also the coolest shifter ever. He could actually fly and he’s thought his singing. Super cool. But the fact that he has been caged up for 10 years is just sickening.
His boys Bo and Joss were super precious and I’m happy that he and Dominic got them back. And that the professor and his son got to reunite. It was very sad to know that they both thought the other were dead so they hadn’t looked for each other.
Dominic got his wolf back which was a pleasant surprise which didn’t just happen out of nowhere. I really appreciate that it was a slow reveal and that it wouldn’t be possible without Adriel.
Although it’s really disturbing how many kids are being brought into being without their parent’s knowledge and/or consent. But I wouldn’t expect any less from the white coats.
Also, I’m happy that Adriel was able to slowly grow into his own through the love and support of his mate. Dominic was a rock and I loved how he helped Adriel get used the outside world.

This is an excellent addition to the Wolf Born series and I loved it. Soaring is well written, sweet, compelling, gritty, heartbreakingly sad, full of hope, has cute babies, the characters are amazing and there are several surprising twists. I love the world the author has created and all of the interesting and intriguing people in it. Adriel has been imprisoned and abused for so many years that freedom is almost more difficult for him than when he was caged. He struggles with everything around him but with the steadying and loving influence of Dominic he is able to conquer many of his fears. Dominic is wonderful and with Adriel by his side they have a chance to make a beautiful family. They will have to fight for what they want and luckily they have help from the residents on Eden. The secondary characters are great, I love the ending and I can't wait to read the next book in this exciting series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
When you want to write about health stuff, please, Google something about it.
Ok, so I generally don't write reviews, but this time I can't really help myself.
I like this author and I don't even mind the stereotypical gender roles (well, not much). The book wasn't bad and overall I enjoyed it, BUT! I can deal with the result of a genetic exam in the form of a "twisted ribbon ladder" (in the end, it's a fantasy, right?) but talking about taking bone marrow sample as "keeping the invasiveness to a minimum"? What would be not keeping it to a minimum? I get that the author heard something fancy and wants to use it, but maybe she could Google something about it before using it. (I'm not an expert in this field but it still hurt to read.)
Other than that, the book was pretty nice (not amazing, but I finished it, enjoyed it and I'll probably read the next in the series).
I loved this book. This series is exactly what I was looking for in a M/M romance! The drama with the mysterious “white coats” who are modifying humans and shifters is intriguing, and in this book you get a couple answers to some questions regarding Eden and the Professor in charge of it.
I liked both of the main characters, Dominic (the wounded wolf) and Adriel (a man with wings). They were both sweet and fit together well. Their physical relationship was slow to develop but I didn’t mind in the least.
I am very interested in this world and hope to see more from this series!
It just missed the mark for being as good as the first book because, for me, there was an issue. whilst I could see instinctive closeness and bonding between adriel and Dominic I though the physical attraction part was way too soon and so the romance floundered a little for me. Anyone who has been traumatised and isolated for that long would be too vulnerable in the first couple of weeks of freedom to start a physical relationship, they wouldn't know enough to give consent. But I skipped the sex scenes out and, apart from a little squirming, didn't lose any of the value of the rest of the story which was fabulous.
WOW!! What a FANTASTIC story!!! This is the journey of Dominic. His brother and sister in law gone. Trying to find his purpose moving forward. When he learns of a facility he has to check it out. Inside he finds Adriel, a shifter like no other. The problem is they took Adriel's newborn twins. This is their journey to rescue them. This is fast paced and has lots of surprises. I loved this. We have all dreamed of meeting someone like Adriel. Thank you CLAIRE CULLEN for sharing him with us. This is a GREAT book. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS INCREDIBLE SERIES!!!!!!
Great story with danger, babynapping and love found. Love it when new books in series are better & better! Dominic isn't ready for Eden because he feels he has a purpose helping outside. The white coats deleted his wolf, so he is trying to find who he is without his wolf. He finds Adriel and frees him from his chains. This action starts off a sequence of events he never expected was possible. He gets a rollercoaster ride on the adventure of his life and gets to make new friends, confront old enemies and find what was lost. Series keeps gatting better and better. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The plot is too much like the first book and the MCs have the typical uber alpha-omega personas that end up being treated as a personality trait; Adrien(?) has been hurt before and finds himself inexplicably drawn to and trusting of the wolf, and the wolf is a jaded guy who's drawn to the Adrien's(?) fragility and wants to protect him. A dominant plot point is looking for "the scientists", which is all well and good, except nothing of consequence happens for such large chunks of time, I just lost interest
2nd instalment of the series and even better than the first. Adriel is a winged man who has been imprisoned since he was a child. He's rescued by Dominic, a wolf tortured by the same people. Together they go on the run looking for their children. There were a couple of story twists I saw coming but I love this series of good triumphing over evil and characters who are finally free to live their best lives.
This is a welcome addition to the series, with a well crafted storyline, good character development and sufficient history to fill in necessary background. Adriel and the twins are a welcome addition and Dominic’s completed story provides much satisfaction. This ends positive, promising a potential HEA for our new family.
Soaring is the second book in the Wolf Born series by Claire Cullen. This paranormal m/m romance is set in a fascinating world of shifters. There is suspense, drama, adventure and action.... there is sweetness, pack and bonding.... this book tells a wonderful and entertaining story while introducing us to wonderful characters. Dominic and Adriel are wonderful. Loved this!
Shifter romances set amid a tale of dreadful scientific exploitation. Scientists are breeding “special” children to manufacture miracle cures for (presumably very rich) humans from the children’s blood and other body parts. They are also attempting to create supersoldiers from wolf shifters modified to remove the pesky wolf itself while retaining the enhanced speed, senses, strength, etc.
Ooh many halfway through this book it was so tense I was ready to speed read through. I loved Dominic and Adriel’s story. I love the twins. There’s just something about people with wings that draws me in. The world building is good and introduces new people who will likely be in the next book. I look forward to seeing more of Jace.
This book has it all. Love, Faith, Hope, Sadness, Joy. The finding of family and the miracles of love. Claire Cullen is one of the best authors around and her books always hold you entrants until the very end, which leaves you sad because it’s the end.
Dominic and Adriel’s story caught my eye while looking for a book to relieve the stress of my reality. I loved Dominic’s patient empathy for Adriel and how brave Adriel was fighting to overcome all the fears he had. Lovely story!
Just as brilliant as the first one but with a completely different character this time an Angel . It’s a brilliant series and each has had a HEA ending so far . I need more from this series highly recommended
Soaring is just as amazing as Surfacing! I love the world that Claire Cullen has created, it's scary but also full of hope. Dominic and Adriel are great characters, the plot is fascinating and altogether, it pulls you in. I'm really looking forward to the next book!!
Claire Cullen has created a world that has me completely entranced! Her characters are always well thought out and completely unique and the storyline is amazing. I had a real hard time putting this book down to sleep!! Highly recommended
Thoroughly enjoyed this book in this new series. I haven’t read book one yet book do intend to. I’m looking forward to future books within this new world.
This book was no flight of fancy it was a well thought out work of art . Reading this book will bring a smile to your face and make you want to soar too.
