Black Summer meets the hood version of The Walking Dead
When a mysterious STD starts making its rounds, spreading at lightning speed from city to city, the government turns a blind eye to what appears to be a hoax. Negligence leads to a pandemic as the situation spirals out of control, and the infected citizens begin to turn into crazed, flesh-eating zombies that run amok, attacking everyone they encounter.
In the heart of the zombie-infested Chicago, a ragtag group of survivors are trying to make it through alive; exotic dancers Brittoni and her younger sister Kennedi, a dope boy named Dekari, Lex - a scammer, Tahara and Ariah - a hairstylist and nail tech duo, and a rapper known as Grimez. As life as they know it starts to crumble and fall around them, they are determined to survive until a vaccine is developed – and hope that things don’t go awry.
Jade Jones discovered her passion for creative writing in elementary school. Born in 1989, she began writing short stories and poetry as an outlet. Later on, as a teen, she led a troubled life which later resulted in her becoming a ward of the court. Jade fell in love with the art and used storytelling as a means of venting during her tumultuous times.
Aging out of the system two years later, she was thrust into the dismal world of homelessness. Desperate, and with limited income, Jade began dancing full time at the tender age of eighteen. It wasn't until Fall of 2008 when she finally caught her break after being accepted into Cleveland State University. There, Jade lived on campus and majored in Film and Television. Now, six years later, she flourishes from her childhood dream of becoming a bestselling author. Since then she has written the best-selling "Cameron" series.
Quite suitably, she uses her life's experiences to create captivating characters and story lines. Jade currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia. With no children, she spends her leisure shopping and traveling. She says that seeing new faces, meeting new people, and experiencing diverse cultures fuels her creativity. The stories are generated in her heart, the craft is practiced in her mind, and she expresses her passion through ink.
This book reminds me of the walking dead and other shows or movies like it. And although it has a familiar feel, it still kept me intrigued on what was happening. I started to piece together the trail of how the STD was spread starting with King and his extramarital dealings. Ariah has a really nasty attitude and as bad as it sounds I wish her ass would have gotten bit. Kennedii has a bad attitude as well and she is the weakest link but I was not expecting her story to end the way it did. One of the twist came at the end of the book when someone I thought was dead popped back up. Now the crew has landed them self in a bit of a situation and I can’t wait for book 2 to determine if they made the right choice or not!

"Chi-Raq: A State of Ruin" by Jade Jones
My Speculations:
Was this the end of the world in this 'Zombie Apocalypse' for Kehlia, Kennedi, Brittoni, Grimez, Lex, Gabriella, and Ariah. Dekari, Milley, Haze, Jamie, and Tahara? Will this hybrid STD end it all for those who have been bitten? Maybe there will be a cure through Gabby? I am not much of a reader of horror, but I will say this one kept my attention turning the pages to see what was coming next.
The reader will have to wait to see what's next in part 2 as the leading group has been faced with joining a much larger group. Will this be the right way to go for them? I guess we will have to wait and see.
A goverment experiment gone wrong is turning everyday citizens into vampire zombies. It's a hybrid STD with no cure. People in the Chi have to support each other to somehow survive this current epidemic. A different take from this author who is known for ✍ hot urban novels.
It's an interesting story. I plan to read the next book in this two-part series.
This was a refreshing read in the sense that I wish there were more zombie books with people of color as the protagonists. I'm hoping Jade Jones writes more. The cast of characters aren't fleshed out and are thrown together rather suddenly. The action starts at the beginning. There are a few tropes I could have done without typically found in Urban fiction. But, it's an engaging read that I finished in one sitting. So, they obviously didn't bother me that badly. I didn't get Ariah's character. People help you AFTER YOU CALL FOR HELP and you are nasty and rude to them afterwards including a child? Blaming them for "killing" your undead husband and stepson? In real life the comments she made to the child would have gotten her put out of the car. Be prepared to suspend belief. Apocalypse or not, someone like that is untrustworthy. Now I'm on to part 2.
This book was so good. The ending had me wanting more, like I never expected that to happen. I wonder is his daughter the key to everything and where did it original come from. Ari is mean ass hell and I hate what happened to Lex. This book was fast paced and got right to the action. I was finished in an hour.
I was very surprise and I didn’t think that I would enjoy this but I can say it was good page turner mad at the fact the gabby gotten bitten but Dan a hybrid STD wow it’s very surprising how life can be good one min and bad in the blink of an eye I hope it’s better ending
From the first sentence in this book. I didn't want to stop reading. I have never read a book quite like this but it's very interesting and good. Very good book. And I'm a fan of ZOMBIES. Great work!!!
The end took me for a loop. Why hasn’t Gabby changed ? Whew I’m sick of Ariah ! I won’t lie at first the book took me forever to get into but once I kept reading it started getting good
Oh my... well they should have left those people were they were cause now they in some mess they don't know if they can get out of lets see what happens in part 2
This book was krazy!!!! I don't usually read the paranormal type books but this one had me hooked from beginning to end. The storyline keeps you wondering what if this really happens to us, what would we do to survive (aka covid-19😉)
